I went here yesterday for my first ever float. The place is beautifully designed and even has a lounge area where you can relax, get your bearings and drink tea after your float. The staff are extremely helpful, professional and friendly. I was greeted warmly by one of the owners , David, who totally put me at ease as I have a fear of water and am unable to swim. I opted for the pod experience, which comes with your own private suite with a shower. Everything you need is provided for you. The place is clean, modern and nicely laid out. My floatation experience was amazing. It felt like the best massage I have ever had times a 100. Relaxing beyond belief. I had the option of music and different light settings but decided to go without as I wanted the whole sensory deprivation experience. It was magical and surreal. I would highly recommend this to anyone and definitely to do it here with lift floats. Also I live in Manhattan and took the 5 train to Borough Hall and walked 10 mins to get there, took the f train back which is even closer to the Lift floats location. Very easy to find and get to . Great area to shop in and or have a bite after your float. The staff gave me a great recommendation for a local restaurant and directions. I have already booked my next float and can't wait! Absolutely amazing! Was recommended here by a friend that said it would be great for my pregnancy. I had terrible insomnia and swelling and this completely put me to sleep and the Epsom salt helped with the swelling in my body. I felt that I was able to connect more with my body and my baby. This is easily the best float experience I've had. The facilities are exceptional and the staff is very polite. I've only been to 2 other places for floatation but I think this will become my go to. I'd go again. People there were very nice and laid back. The reason I went was to be in a place with no sound for an hour so that my ears could chill out!! Too many sounds in NYC was starting to make my ears very unhappy and a case of tinnitus was the result. This was my first float and I was unable to fully relax the way I wanted to, but I got out of it what I wanted which was a no-sound environment for an hour. The facility was clean and bright and the staff were very friendly and explained everything in detail in regards to expectations. Such a wonderful and truly blissful experience!!! I was given an hour float by my Wife for my birthday and we just went together yesterday. Every part of the experience was welcoming, gentle, reassuring and professional. David - the owner, made us feel right at home. Perfect for first timers like we were who have no idea what is about to happen. From the moment we walked into Lift, to the moment we left we felt very comfortable!!! Such a nice and calming energy in the place. What can I say except turn off the lights, turn off the sound, lay back, float, let yourself go and tune into you. It is kind of like floating on your back in the ocean but without having to hold your breath to not sink and in complete darkness with no sound. Probably the quietest place in Brooklyn!!! Your body is the perfect amount above the water and submerged. Such a warm and happy and peaceful feeling!!! It is so great to basically defy gravity for an hour. It really helps with the stress on you body to be able to just let yourself go. After we were out we both felt a sense of rejuvenation like nothing else. After my previous post, the owner contacted me and I cam back for another float with suggestions. My return changed from 2 stars to 4! Tips: ear plugs are a big help. Also I appreciated a back room which was more quiet. The space/waiting room is peaceful and clean. I will return and am looking forward to trying the room instead of the pod. Very nice place, calming and the pods would be good to use. I have two problems with my experience- Water is not hot enough- it cools off during the session and that made my experience uncomfortable. While the room is dark enough it is not soundproof- someone walked by my pod and each time I felt their footfalls and it disrupted my experience. I won't come back. read more

It was my first time floating after reading all the benefits. At first, I was amazed that I could float without even trying. Then, after sometime I turned off the lights but got scared so I turned them back on. I realized that there was nothing for me to fear so I turned it all off. I was only able to hear my breath and nothing else. It was a wonderful experience towards the end because I was able to finally relax. I went yesterday and I am still feeling very relaxed. I'm not quite sure what to make of my experience. A lot of my displeasure of it wasn't the fault of the facility (my own inability to relax and shut my mind off). Some of it was the facility, though. First off, there's a distinct chlorine like smell in the float room and one day and three showers later, I can't get it out of my hair. Also when I ended my float, there was no staff around, nor was there any cold water in the lounge and I had never been so thirsty. Right before my float, a staffer was asking another customer about his experience and his ambivalence was running through my mind as I got into my tub, I kinda wish I hadn't heard someone else expressing his mixed feelings right before I had my first. The most serious problem was that the pillow provided for neck relief was totally slippery and my head kept falling off. I ended up having to hold my head to the pillow with my arms which wasn't relaxing or comfortable. So I left more sore than I had come in. read more

I don't know what I was so nervous about! I opted for the room instead of a pod since it was my first time and not sure how I'd do with the smaller space. They show a short video tutorial before the experience so you feel more confident going in. I had some difficulty with the stars/lighting - they kept dimming and then getting really bright and then went off/on completely without me touching anything. Disappointing but I just turned them off and decided it was a sign to just go all in and I'm really glad I did. When I told the staff about this later they were very apologetic and offered me a complimentary float so I could have that experience (customer service alone garners 5 stars from me). It took a while for my body to relax but eventually I felt like I was floating in space. Surreal at times. Had that "awwwww" experience when time was up so next time I'll try for a longer float. Tried the private room. Have to totally release your apprehension of laying quietly and very still on top of the water. The high concentration of salt "floats" you and also avoid in eyes or any skin cuts. Shower outside private room so easy to wash off afterwards. I did not finish my entire time session because 1) I became bored (my own personality) and 2) I started getting claustrophobic in a dark sensory deprived room. Not my cup of tea, but if mediation or inner peace is you, go for it. read more

Things are clean and new. They threw a lot of instructions at me and I worried about forgetting them, and it totally diminished the experience. 1) I accidentally splashed the float water in my face as I was trying to turn down the music and the water burned my eye and throat, so I had to get out of the tank to shower and drink water; 2) vagueness about how long you are in the pod (vs. prepping for the pod and showering afterwards) led to anxiety about overstaying my time; 3) I could be wrong, but I think they said that the music will turn on when it is time to get out, I thought I had turned off the music, but then later the music was playing so I was wondering if it was time to get out...ruining the sensory deprivation (they claimed later they also said the light would go on...not sure they really said this about the pod, they said the light would go on in the non-pod tank that doesn't have music); 4) the water in the pod got cold (or so it felt to me). This place has potential but I did not have a relaxing experience. Maybe they should post the instructions on the wall? read more

Had my first float and loved it! The staff was warm and attentive. The facilities are super clean and fresh allowing for a deeply relaxing experience. Long-time floater, first time here. Staff was great, space is comfy, open even on the holiday. The float pod room was well-appointed and comfortable - loved the open in-room shower. Floating itself was wonderful and helpful! I did note the water was just a little warm for me - it didn't "disappear", I always felt the warmth. Not sure if it was the actual temp or if it was me. Okay so the first time I came to lift floats I was with a friend who was paying for his 3 sessions. I happened to get a quick tour and was immediately interested in doing my own personal float. Today I had my first hour float in the float room. You have a choice between the float room or a pod. It was an incredible experience to say the least. Relaxing and I felt like everything else did not matter. So happy I decided to take this journey and trust myself to just be at peace , even for a little while. The employees are friendly and explain the procedure thoroughly. You definitely do not want to shave before a float being that there is Epsom salt in the water. You can even leave the lights on or off; your decision. I would recommend if you are open minded to different practices or even want to try something new you should visit lift floats read more

I've really enjoyed my sessions here. I've especially liked coming out of my tank after dark into their halo-like lighting scheme. It really prolongs your blissed out feeling. My only problem is floating can become such an addiction. Maybe not every day, but twice a week. I wish they were here for last winter. An hour in the tank would be the perfect antidote to the bone chilling cold we had. And without a flight. Don't get the salt in your eyes... and if you do, wash it out... but isn't that obvious? read more

My boyfriend and I both floated, both first timers. He did the room and I did a pod. There are upsides to both (pod has music the entire time, room doesn't). I can't wait to go back and try the room! I had a fabulous experience at Lift! I pass this place on my daily walk to work and wanted to check it out. My friend did something similar and told me to watch some meditation videos on YouTube prior to floating, which was a helpful tip. The staff and ambiance at Lift are excellent. I watched an instructional video and then an employee explained everything in detail. I chose to float in the pod, which was huge and I kept it open about 2 feet. In the room with the pod, there is also a shower - the whole room is spacious and clean. I chose spa music and blue lighting, and after about 5 minutes of trying to get comfortable, I was totally in "the zone." I went in and out of deep meditation, saw colors, etc and also was fully present the whole time and did not fall asleep (although it's fine if you do.) The water temperature was perfect the whole time. At the end of an hour, a soothing voice from the speaker brought me back to consciousness and I had plenty of time to shower and get changed. After the float, there is an awesome relaxation area where you can sit on a super comfy couch, drink tea, color mandalas, etc. It's a perfect way to unwind from floating. The Epsom salt makes your skin so super soft too, it doesn't feel like salt water at all! Since the float, I have noticed a huge decrease an anxiety, I've been able to sleep through the night and feel completely rested and serene. I loved it and can't wait to return! read more

it was my second float in life, so I can compare with the previous one...where I did get stress free experience( was a different place tho!) I wanted to do 90 min float which had to be in the morning or last appointment in the evening which was ok...I went in after yoga class( was in the zen already!)...the place looked nice and clean at first glance...didn't pay too much attention to paper flip-flops and stone cold floor, was still excited about the float..the water was clear/clean...went into the room was ready to let go but the sound of people upstairs moving furniture was interrupting...on top of that the water wasn't warm enough and the temperate of the air was cool, my body got cold( I got cold sore the next day)...plus it smelled like chlorine inside...leaving the room I noticed some mold in the tank... Complained about my experience and the manager admitted to having all the issues with cleanliness of the room, ventilation and temperate regulation! Why did I have to pay for the problems they are having with their business? Rip off!! read more

A little about me re floating: First floated in 1982 and have done it all over the country; knew Michael Hutchison (Book of Floating author); have consulted one of the east coast's top float centers. This review is about Lift--site, equipment, staff; not my personal floating experience, as each is unique to the person. DELIGHTED: --Friendly, accommodating staff. --Nice, comfortable welcome area with hot tea. --Clean and well laid out space, nice touch with colored ceiling lights. --Float pod was new, clean, well maintained, easy to open and close; water was the just-right body temperature. --Convenient, short walk to the subway (came from Manhattan). --Price was reasonable; well worth the investment. COULD BE LIFTED (no pun intended): --Provide shower slippers, or tell callers they should bring their own. Standing on public shower floor never a first choice, unless 100% sure it's been disinfected after every float. --Hot water dispenser for tea was buggy/not so easy to use; also suggest greater variety beyond 2 teas and offer honey as an optional sweetener. --Never heard any sound in my pod, e.g., the welcome message I was told I'd hear at the start. No gently increasing music to signal the end of the float, just the lights coming on--not such a big issue, I've just always heard/enjoyed music as the signal that the float time was up. --Could have used a third towel/bathmat. --Quality of liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner? Curious; let the client know. --Train staff to prep the float tank by wrapping a long washcloth in a loose knot on the inside handle of the float tank for wiping one's eyes clear of the salty water (I knew to do this prior but is often an issue with new floaters if not done). --Add a small (perhaps arrow) sign or two going up and at the top of the stairs, to confirm that this is the entrance for Lift; was unsure for a few moments that I was in the correct entrance. LASTLY, for the Lift Float lead team: There is only ONE target which best predicts growth and profitability in every successful business--no matter its size, industry or product/service, according to the architect of the greatest business success story never told... I enjoyed myself and it was my first time. I did it because the concept is cool. I'd seen it advertised is different countries and I wanted to try it. I mean it was in my backyard basically. My one MAJOR complaint is I have a very bad inner ear infection. My ear plugs kept calling out. Invest in very very very good ear plugs. It's 500 of salt water. Salt water drys everything out and I am paying for it as a result. For meditative purposes it's interesting. I do feel relatively refreshed. Very relaxed. Just caution yourself and remember the brain is powerful. I would go back with WAY better ear plugs and see what the experience really would be like. Whose fault really is that though? read more

I went to LIFT on Monday with my partner. I had read about sensory deprivation before and was pretty excited (and a little nervous) to give it a try. I will precursor by saying I think you need to be in a good mind space to do this, and should approach the space as a space-service. On that note, the facility itself is quiet, clean, and made a legit attempt at building a gentle ambiance in their lobby/lounge area. I say attempt because I think that the lounge & checkin area sharing the same open space really took away from any ambience/calming/etc. I really would have preferred if the lounge area was somehow separated (maybe even just a half wall so its out of sight) from the check-in desk, instead of it being one large room. These two spaces (check in & lounge) serve very different purposes and I found it a bit jarring to be sharing the space in my post-float mind space (it was more jarring than relaxing--I felt some weird psychological pressure to finish up/pay/leave, but by no means did the staff do or say anything to make me feel that way. Just the way the space was set up and my heightened sensitivity to input). The staff was friendly and definitely tried to respect your space! Anyways, the float facilities themselves were very nice. I used the Room and my partner used the Pod. I don't think either provide a vastly different experience, and personally would use the room again if I were to go. Definitely make sure to get all your cuts and cuticles covered with Vaseline! Each room had its own shower and was heated. I highly recommend bringing your own earplugs, as there definitely is residual sound that can be picked up (vibrating of rooms nearby cleaning, or the natural groans of a building, I have no idea), and their earplugs were not so great. Bring an open mind to the experience. You are going to become acutely aware of your body--any aches, pains, or discomforts will be amplified in your mind because there is no other input drowning those out. I definitely struggled a bit at first, distracted by a cut I missed with vaseline and the positioning of my head/spine (use the pillow, it helps!) Also, I recommend trying to go in with a goal if you've never done any sort of prolonged meditation/sensory deprivation. Either to try and keep a clear mind or to think through a certain thing/idea/problem. Having no plan for your first time might make it hard to get through the full hour. After the float, showered and had some tea with my partner in the lounge. Again, I really think that this could be the cherry on top for the experience but the lobby-mixed-cash register was just a bit stressy for me. Overall, I enjoyed myself and the kind of relaxed state of mind I was in post-float, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do this at an 90$/pop per float. I completely understand the price, I just would rather put that money towards a massage, which is my prefered "spa"-treatment of choice! My partner, on the other hand, had a fantastic experience and does plan to come back and do this on the occasion as he said it was one of the few times he really was able to clearly think through some problems for im. I've floated in a number of locations over the years, and I've found floating to be a wonderful reset for body and mind. My checklist for a float center is: clean, well maintained tanks; friendly staff; pleasant, soothing atmosphere for post-float relaxation; and high-quality amenities (shower supplies, earplugs etc). A fine first experience. The first 35-40 minutes were great, but towards the end I kept hearing doors closing, people walking by, and some machine was running next door. My hand also drifted into some hair that had collected against the wall. :/ It was really distracting, so I just got up and showered early. It would be awesome to own one of these, but visiting them in public places just can't give you the full experience. read more

I floated here a few weeks ago for the first time with a friend of mine. I was hesitant at first because I was not familiar with floating. From the moment I walked in the atmosphere was so cozy and inviting. The gentleman at the front Christopher was super helpful and explained everything in great detail. I explained my concerns and he made me feel comfortable. There was also a young lady who took me to my room who was very helpful and inviting. I was able to get some much needed relaxation in. The pod was very relaxing I am a bit claustrophobic and therefore had my concerns but per the employee at the fronts advice I left the tank open just a bit and was able to fully let go and enjoy. I turned on the music and let my mind wander it was such an amazing experience. After my float I hung out in the little lounge, had some tea and looked through the amazing collection of kaleidoscopes. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to try a new experience. Terrible! I came for an appointment and they did not have the heat on in the room, so although the water was body temp my skin above the water was cold. Not relaxing. My friend's room had heat. Very very bad experience. You don't pay 90 an hour in the winter for a cold bath. read more
