Needed a quick pick me on this very rainy day while my kids were getting haircuts right next door. It's a simple lil coffee bakery shop with a few bakery and drink selections. I wanted to try a bakery item but the prices were a bit on the higher end so decided to pass. I got a vanilla latte instead for $4.50. It was ok but tasted more like coffee and less like a latte, imo. Maybe I need to try something else in the menu to get a better feel. Sister bakery to sugar dough, focusing more on pastries! I was so full from sugardough so I ended up eating them almost 2 days later and they were delicious and made me wonder what I missed out on not eating it that day. I got the ube cream puff, A++++ Also got the matcha layer cake, which after 2 days was a little chewy so not sure if that is fair. I still very enjoyed it. Wasn't overly sweet. I love desserts, but not when it's too sweet! We had a Valentine's Day date and stopped by here for desserts! Just a small little shop but boy oh boy does this shop offer some amazing desserts and a large variety of lattes and mixed tea drinks! We ordered the pistachio treat and the Dubai chocolate box! One of the best places for cream puffs. This is the only business that I purchase cream puffs from. Their seasonal flavors are phenomenal. I recently tried their pandan cream puffs (they look like a little witches brew for Halloween season). My favorite seasonal flavor though has to be the carrot cake one. If they do not have either I will always choose the cheesecake one. The desserts here are great. They are decently priced and the interior designing is marvelous. I love studying here or grabbing a snack with a friend. The staff are super friendly and will explain all the dessert and have great suggestions. I have tried some drinks here but I do prefer their desserts more. They also have different themes for their macaroons every month. One thing I really like is that most of their utensils are biodegradable or wood if they have it. They try to be sustainable with their packaging and utensils except for their drinks. Light on the Sugar, Sigh! Light on the Flavor, Why? I feel like a jerk for not liking this place where everyone in Orlando seemingly goes for awesome desserts. Are they beautiful? Absolutely. Gorgeous Cream Puffs, nice decorative designs, and beautifully layered crepe cakes. But nothing wowed me with an Oooh it's so Good thought (RIP Mr. Food). Did you ever get excited about the desserts on most Chinese Buffets and see different color cakes and cookies and such, then you get one and it's just bland and flavorless? This is kind of like that but not to that extent. I can think of many other desserts I've had that I've liked way more than the ones I've eaten here. I've had 2 crepe cakes here (I think one of my pics disappeared from here). The Oreo Crepe Cake had absolutely zero Oreo flavor with the exception of the Oreo on top. The pumpkin cream puff was crispy, flakey, filled excellently, but lacked the pumpkin spice flavor I was craving. They should be more delicious than they look. Everything about them screams delicious and they were underwhelming to me. I will say that being from Orlando has its advantages. Local cuisine with diverse tastes were a lot harder to find 20 years ago. You depended on word of mouth and paper advertisement to spread the news about places like this. Then came commercials on TV (if you had the money) and then cable network food shows that would spotlight different eateries in the area. Orlando has seen great restaurants come and go, with recipes lost behind closed doors. In small cities like Orlando, eateries were also far apart from each other, rather than big cities that have food rows in one spot. However, it's nice to see businesses thriving even in these uncertain times. Such a place is Light on the Sugar. It's a little place tucked in a little plaza that you might miss. But little places can be surprisingly big on flavor. The Ube creampuff, the Ube cheesecake, and the crepe cake with a side of a Cookies and Cream Iced Latte were the menu items we were interested in trying. The crepe cake is light and sweet, not my favorite, but the taste is very good. Silky. The Ube Cheesecake with the graham cracker crust was very good indeed. I can't recall any cheesecake that's out there with Ube. I really liked it. The Ube Cheesecake Creampuff was MY dessert I like the best. This is my favorite Ube dessert by far (apart from the Ube Ice cream elsewhere; nothing beats ice cream). If I could eat this Creampuff everyday with no detrimental issues to my health, I'd do it. The cookies and cream iced latte was alright. A little thicker than what I would have liked. Maybe it would have been better as a hot beverage instead. Come by the area and try this place out. Definitely try the desserts out and see for yourself. Like I said, the Ube cream puffs are terrible. Lol Don't eat them! I really thought that the name was supposed to be ironic considering it was a dessert place. Obviously everything will be super sweet and it was just a play on words. I was wrong because this place is the perfect place for you if you LOVE desserts but hate how overly sweet everything is. We only ordered two desserts which I am very heavily regretting right now. I wish I order 5 times more. We got a coffee cream puff and a ube cheesecake cream puff. Both were so insanely good AND the best part was that they were indeed light on sugar! Light on the Sugar was founded by Qiu and his wife, Wen Pan who came to Florida from China and worked in the restaurant industry for several years before opening this, their first location in 2019 on Aloma Avenue. When designing their bakery, the couple took inspiration from their world travels. The name of the bakery is taken from the idea that in the Asian culture desserts are less sweet than their western counterparts. At Light on the Sugar they strive to create French pastries with Asian flavors like ube, matcha, taro, and black sesame. The flavor of the desserts are showcased beyond the sweetness of the sugar. The success of Light on the Sugar has allowed them to open a second larger location with patio dining in 2021 in Winter Park at 501 Orlando Ave and a sister bakery Sugardough Bakehouse also in 2021 in Audubon Park. I have wanted to visit Light on the Sugar ever since it was recommended to me by Rachel M. I finally got a chance while visiting my daughter who lives in Winter Park. The shop is small with only a few tables inside. You order your pastries, coffee, and fruit teas at the counter and they call you up when it is ready. Light on the Sugar is known for their creative flavors of cream puffs, crepe cakes, fruit tarts and macarons. They also offer seasonal selections and character macarons. Each pastry is like a miniature work of art. My daughter and I ordered the black forest Teddy Tart and the the Crème brûlée cream puff to eat in. My daughter got her lychee fruit tea right away but my coffee never came. I would have ordered the fruit tea too but they don't add boba which left me disappointed. We enjoyed both our pastries which were delicious and I also got two of the Totoro macarons to go. Despite the name light on the sugar everything was sweet enough for me. The hiccup came with the coffee, one to go and one to drink with my dessert. Instead they made both to go. Worse was when I was ready to leave and had to ask for my coffee again, they didn't believe me that I paid for two and had to hold up the line to go through the computer to see if I really paid as I said I had. It was embarrassing and I didn't like being made to feel that they thought I was trying to rip them for a free coffee. No communication between the person taking orders and the person making drinks! My order was around $35 for two desserts, two coffee, two macarons and a lychee fruit tea. For those kind of prices you expect better service. read more

Thanks to my wonderful girlfriend who planned our whole Orlando itinerary and found this place for us to try! She knows I love my morning Starbucks lattes and sweets, so this was right on the money. Honestly, if I could've eaten all the cream puffs, I would have. There were so many to choose from and they all looked absolutely delicious. We ended up *only* getting four for the both of us to share and two drinks. I got the Sakura latte, and she got a Lychee Jasmine Green Tea. The cream puffs were delicious and so was my latte. My favorite puff continues to be the ube especially because it is a flavor that you can't find everywhere. I finally got to visit Light on the Sugar after discovering them on Instagram. Their desserts are social media worthy, and they taste just as good as they look! Because of COVID, there is no indoor seating. They had a line out the door when I visited during lunchtime on the weekend. The counter where you order is quite small, so once you order, you stand to the side until your order comes out. Masks were required, the customers inside were very conscientious of each other, and all orders are to-go, so I felt comfortable visiting this business. I ordered the Tiger Sugar Latte and several pastries. The latte was on the sweeter side, but not too overpowering, and it had just enough caffeine for the rest of my day. I ordered three desserts: - Matcha creme puff: fluffy puff with matcha topping, filled with smooth matcha-flavor creme. This can be shared between two people and overflowing with creme. Would pair very well with hot coffee. - Matcha crepe cake: my favorite dessert of the bunch, the crepe cake is lightly flavored and not too heavy. With light creme between each layer, it's a refreshing dessert during a hot day. - NY style cheesecake: My husband loves a thick vanilla cheesecake. The filling is tart with a lightly baked crust. Out of this world!!! I am now in love with this little shop. I drove through the shopping plaza at the NW corner of Aloma and Howell Branch this afternoon to see what was new. I rarely eat after-dinner desert, but had the puff this evening. It was so incredibly good. Delicious and light. Can't wait to try the tiramisu cake. Tomorrow. I tend to ask a lot of questions at new places and both the cashier and the lady filling the case were so gracious and un-annoyed. LOL! The pastries are made with real ingredients, like cream and butter, and taste like it. Although lower in sugar, they are not low calorie. Since I rarely keep sweets in the house, this is a great way to get my sweet fix. I am super sensitive to "sweet" (that means, although I love sweets, artificial sweeteners either taste too sweet and/or bitter, AND most sweets taste too sweet), so the fact that their items aren't overly sweet is PERFECT for me! I can actually taste something other than sugar! And the flavors are out of this world!! Note: Today (day after purchase) I had the tiramisu.
