I was looking for a breakfast place and saw this place by accident. Loved that they have a parking lot in the back. It was really busy but this is a large restaurant so we were seated in a booth right away. I got the Greek omelet and my breakfast companion got the pancakes with bacon and ham. I have gone to the Lighthouse and ordered pickup for breakfast and have found it to be the typical Bayonne diner that flies all over the place with inconsistency. One time you can have the best Spanish Omelette in the Bayonne / Jersey City area and the next time the eggs are like water and the veggies are raw and flavorless. When ordering home fries you can roll the dice and hope for the best too as they are never the same as the last time, ranging from OK to flavorless, dry and horrible. My orders have been so bad that they are inedible and have been thrown in the garbage! I've experienced this multiple times too. The owner apparently does not understand that CONSISTENCY is a basic principle of a properly run restaurant and they hire incompetent morons who are not trained properly. Then again, that issue along with the highly social servers who look at the floor (eye aversion syndrome) while talking to you are recurring problems with so many places in this enigma of a town. read more

Wasn't Great! i had the Cuban Panini and it was to sweet for a Cuban! They down poured alot of Honey mustard instead of putting it on the side. Eggs Benedict was really good creamy and crunchy at the same time. French Toast is very comforting. DO NOT grab French Fries ever time i get the fries its not cooked all the way. I should have learned my lesson by the 4th time ordering -_- Waiter Service was ok i guess. She took her sweet time taking care of us. Much better than expected, to be honest. The gyros are really good, they use real lamb. It's a great spot for lunch or an early bird dinner. Don't go late, they like to close up early. The chicken kebabs are all meat, no veggies, so if you're into protein, they're great. Had a wonderful lunch there a few weeks ago with my friends and their elderly mom, and she's a hard woman to please. She loved the food. Went back last night and noticed that the place was empty post-dinner time. It's not one of those late-night diners, I guess. 3 of our party ordered reubens but they were out of sauerkraut. My daughter and I went here for the first time and thought we had a good experience until when we went to the check out counter to pay our bill, the Asian man asked us if we tip the waitress. I bought steak and eggs from here just plain no cheese and a side of pancake for pick up. When i got there it was $33.00 i was shocked but I decided "this must be the worlds most delicious steak and eggs and pancakes" excitedly i hurried home. Guys! The owner is very rude. We have been going here for 4 years but wont be frequenting this diner again. I have always gotten the special and then cake which is included. The menu says comes with a layer cake but tonight the owner insisted it's only 1 specific cake. This has never been the case in all my other visits. The only reason for two stars is decent service. This place serves some of the worst food I've ever eaten. They should cut down the menu a bit. The soup was like hot watery sodium with large bow tie pasta. Mozzarella sticks looked and tasted like they had some kind of soft spreadable cheese inside that didn't get stringy, melt very well or were just really cheap and old. The turkey club sandwich, bacon was good but barely there, too much turkey that was a weird color and texture so I just didn't eat it. Also, fries are just bland and under seasoned. Wow, this place is bad... Went with a group of 16 and got two waiters. They managed to forget 1/2 the orders. And it wasn't like one of the waiters skrewed up. They both forgot orders. They claimed it was the kitchen's fault, but who cares? It still took an hour to get my food. One person ordered a vegetarian dish and they put chicken into it. The waiter never came around and asked people for refills on their water. He only did it when asked and seemed surprised each time. Food was bad, even by diner standards. Have been going here for years , but today. I was ripped off at the register by the Hostess. Tall woman brown hair and always dressed up. I have breakfast this morning. I specifically made sure of how much money I had in my wallet before leaving my home. I did not have $1,$5 or $10.00. I put three $20.00's in my wallet. I went to the register to pay for my meal and purposely separated the check from the $20.00 and did make sure it was a $20.00 dollar bill I was using to pay the bill. I also separated the check from the money on the counter so the woman could see the money. My check was about $6 and change. I was given $3.00 and change back and told the woman I just gave you a 20 dollar bill , you own me $10.00. She tried to tell me I put it on the register and it was a $10 , but I made sure I had 3 $20's today , so I knew she was lying. I was polite and fought her. She finally gave me the $10.00 back . I was about two minutes from calling Bayonne Police so they could investigate. I am almost a Senior Citizen and need my money. I told several people and found one person who she did the same thing to years ago. So, this woman has been doing this a long time. This is not a mistake because today I made sure of how much money I had in my wallet. This woman probably won't do it to all , but to a chosen few. Be careful! I will never go back again! Excellent breakfast place. I have eaten breakfast here a few times and it has always been spot on. Breakfast special of two eggs, meat, home fries, toast, coffee and juice is $6.75. My eggs were cooked correctly, home fries were crispy as per my request, sausages were very tasty. Service was excellent (Maria was always there with coffee and checking to make sure everything was ok). Have only had breakfast there so I can't vouch for other food, but I would highly recommend. read more

The tomatoes are SOGGY and I found a HAIR in my salad, the wait time for them to deliver is completely ridiculous, I ordered ONE meal only for myself, nothing too complicated and it came TWO AND A HALF HOURS LATER. And I'm not even joking. I called and the lady on the phone had a nasty tone to her voice. Great way to lose business guys, definitely not ordering again. I have have dined at this restaurant on quite a few occasions. The service has always been okay, the food has been what you expect from a diner, and you get your regular rude patron that interrupts your server as they take your order. The experience I had today was the first one that warranted a review. The reason I am giving this place two stars is that I am averaging my overall experience from the first visit, until this one. The meal was great. They have new items in the brunch menu that my boyfriend and I tried and loved (even though I was served someone else's food at first.) The problem was the refill of the coffee. Maria came and poured us each a fresh cup, and after pouring his cream, my boyfriend noticed a fly floating in it. He fished it out and I placed confirmed it. A fly on the spoon that just came from the coffee. I asked a passing server for the manager and she took a detour to Maria to let her know that I was asking for him. Maria comes over and asks what's wrong and when I show her the fly, SHE WIPES HE SPOON WITH HER FINGERS AND SAYS "SOMETIMES THE COFFEE GROUNDS GET INTO THE POT" and poured a new cup, from the same pot, that the fly came from! Are you kidding me? I guess coffee is evolving and growing wings, because I saw them. On the spoon. From the coffee. And she wiped it with her hands, and rolled it between her fingers. Maria is bold. Don't trust her though, because if she can't tell the difference between a big ass fly and a coffee ground, she's Cuoco for coco puffs. I ran across the street for a few minutes and when I returned as I backed out of my space I felt as if I ran over something. Two days later I discovered screws in my front tires which caused slow leaks. I will never give them my patronage again. So beware of your vehicles. read more

Over 20 minutes passed, 3 other tables near us were seated, and those tables ALREADY HAD THEIR ORDERS TAKEN AND FOOD SERVED, AND STILL NOBODY TOOK OUR ORDER. I asked a waiter if anybody was going to take our order, and instead of addressing me, he started yelling at other members of the wait staff. We sat more than another 5 minutes and still nobody even addressed us, let alone came over to take our order. One table that was seated after us had gotten their check already and we were still being ignored. That was the point we got up and walked out. The Lighthouse is and has been one of Bayonne's staples for over 30 years. My family has breakfast there almost every Saturday morning! Food is excellent for a NJ diner. My wife loves their Gyros and I love the Chocolate Chip pancakes and Body Builder Protein Omelets. Service is excellent and friendly. They have a great rapport with everyone. They also offer parking in the back but there is plenty of street parking in the heart of their business district. The Lighthouse is also a gathering place for regulars. With its family atmosphere, its also a definite hit and a can't miss. Enjoy, you won't be disappointed. read more

I am just so angry with The Lighthouse right now. I am a regular customer here. I was asked by a co-worker to call in a pick-up order. As it was not my order I didn't want to make a mistake so I had yelled off to him to confirm what he said. I guess the woman thought that I had put the phone away from my ear but I did not and she says "Oh God, have your order ready before you call it in" So I politely asked, if I was bothering her and she ignored me and I asked again and she said "Oh no, I was talking to someone else." I said "No I don't think you were and that is very rude." Moral of my story- not only do they show you the pick up fee on their receipt they are extremely rude for pick up orders you just never know who is on the other end of the phone. To be honest this place was nothing special. From the minute we walked in the door the hostess seemed to hate her job, along with our waitress. The waitress took forever to greet us and wasn't even slightly friendly. The food was ok, and the dessert was a little stale (cake). I would have to say, if you just want a quick bite and dont really care, then this is your place, However if you want good food and great service, try the Broadway Diner on 53rd.
