Halibut n chips, cup o' chowder, shrimp cocktail

Our cruise ship stopped in Haines due to adverse weather conditions that didn't allow us to stop in Skagway. Although it was raining and windy we got off the cruise ship and walked about 15 minutes to this restaurant located adjacent to a small boat harbor. I was surprised more cruise ship passengers didn't stop in here to experience this adorable little slice of old west Americana. We arrived soaking wet and were thankful to have a nice quiet, toasty and warm space nearly all to ourselves. Here's a few things we loved: Views: unobstructed view with small boats, and great view of the cruise ship in port that dwarfed everything else in the area. Peace and Tranquility: after being on the endlessly noisy cruise ship it was almost jarringly quiet in here with the soft rain and gray clouds outside we enjoyed the fact we were about the only patrons in here and could have a nice conversation over a cup of coffee without yelling to hear each other and no constant clanking of dishes. Service: prompt, courteous, super nice polite waitress. All our food came out quickly, hot and exactly as ordered. Food: we ordered the halibut n chips, chowder and shrimp. The halibut was fresh, and perfectly breaded, with a light beer type batter, crispy on outside and juicy on inside. Tartar sauce was on point! Fries/chips were as expected. Chowder was rich and had good flavor also. Shrimp cocktail as expected. Of course the halibut was the star of the show as expected. Do yourself a favor, when in Alaska you must always order whatever fresh local fish they have no matter what! Beer: we had the Alaska White beers on tap and they paired quite well with the fried halibut! Overall we loved this place, primarily for the quiet ambience, and super fresh halibut. If we ever get back to Haines we want to come back to this restaraunt for sure, and would love to try the attached bar and pool table room which looks quite cozy but was closed at the time we visited. Looks very "Wild West" cozy with great Alaska beer selections as well!

Food was delicious, the lady who served us was very nice. Overall, don't judge a book by its cover, it might be a great restaurant!

Awesome lunch! Had the blackened halibut sandwiches, Lingcod fish and chips and a Lynn Canal burger- service was awesome and the restaurant has been part of the Haines community for decades! The bar is a true piece of history! If you are in Haines this is a must! Stop, grab a beer or drink and some fresh seafood or awesome burgers!

The ambiance was great, the crowd was rowdy in the best way possible. All their beers on tap were local, from Haines Brewing. Why every town in Alaska isn't like this (local beer on tap at the local restaraunts), I have no idea. This should be the norm! Instead you'll often see something like Alaskan Amber, Bud Light, and Stella Artois. The pizza took a while to come out, 30-45min, but they were SWAMPED because of beerfest. When it finally did, it was very good. This is NY-ish style pizza. The emphasis is on really thin crust. This was a pretty good take on it! My only real complaint is that this dough/crust performs very, very poorly when eaten the next day. This is definitely EAT NOW pizza, not SAVE SOME FOR LATER pizza.

I waited on an outdoor table and then ordered the pesto roll for $13 (same menu as posted on yelp here) with goat cheese (for an extra charge of $4). It took about half order for my order. The views were nice but it was a little chilly. The roll was a little bigger than I had pictured (unfortunately for me as I wasn't looking for leftovers) and came with a side of marinara. Maybe it was the combination of the mozzarella and parmesan, but the goat cheese was a bit overpowering and couldn't really taste much of the salmon. Left feeling like I made the wrong choice. Should've chosen the slice of pizza... Update: I was thinking about the roll afterwards and how satisfying it was, which is weird to not like it much while eating it and then like it afterwards. Anyways, it tasted much better warmed up the next day

We weren't there for a typical meal, we did a culinary and Alaskan gardening class. These two things happen to be my all time favorite pass times. I learned so much from nearly every staff member I came into contact with. Their pastry chef taught us so much about bread making and the science behind it and was incredibly knowledgeable. The in house gardener (yes they have one of those!) grows ingredients on site to help supplement food costs and she taught us so much about how climate impacts the plants she grows. (Their rhubarb was gigantic) everything we ate was off the charts amazing! If I had to give a negative comment it would be that the manager seemed inconvenienced by the guests and made sure to tell us that we were keeping him from his busy day, but to be fair he said he isn't usually the one who gives guest presentations so I have to give him props for doing it even when he clearly had other things to do. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE if you find yourself in Skagway, but get there early because space is limited. 11/10 Great job!!!

I thought it was mostly a food tasting tour but it was also full of history about the gold rush. We got to sample a smoked salmon spread and a baked Alaskan. Both fantastic. So much in one tour. Their crab cakes are delicious as well but these fish and chips were out of this world fresh, flavorful and the batter was perfection not too thick and just right, served with coleslaw and tarter sauce and delicious fries. We sat by the bar and Molly the bartender was very attentive and bubbly and knew her selections of beer and what to go for and all. The service is the same and quick. We came at lunch time and was a bit full so there was room at the bar and was first come first served. The ambiance here is great, you can people watch thru the window and see all the cruise ships and have a quick bite to eat and enjoy the fun music and ambiance is great. We were promptly seated. Several customers were there so place appeared busy. We were on a time crunch so ordered the crab cakes and king crab legs. Both items came out in reasonable time. The $21 crab cakes were not great and had significant breading (2/5 stars). The $119 two piece king crab served with clarified butter was excellent and tasty (5/5 stars). They give you the appropriate utensils and pickers to cut the claws open. Overall good experience but wish I could've tried more items in the menu. Would return when I'm in the area!
