The representative repeatedly interrupted me, spoke with a dismissive tone, and answered questions I did not ask. When I asked whether Golden Empire Transit accepts student IDs for free rides, she refused to look up the information and told me to "Google it myself." She also cut me off when I asked whether routes serve shelters. I remained calm throughout the call. The representative was rude, unhelpful, and unwilling to provide basic transit information or referrals.

It is absolutely ridiculous to spend $30 for a round trip using Lyft when Bakersfield has an active transportation system. Also, it makes zero sense to make someone who has no transportation or is disabled to apply in person. We have zoom, email, internet, texting, etc but we are so behind that they are making things so difficult by requiring paper applications? Getbus, do better! Our economy cannot improve if the people living here can't improve their lives because there's no reliable, consistent, common sense transportation systems!

Westside Parkway is like a dream for those needing to quickly get to the center of Bakersfield from…read morethe West side. No more struggling with traffic on Rosedale Highway and that dreaded train that occasionally just stops on the tracks (you know what I'm talking about!). The Westside Parkway (which is one of the first Parkway's I can ever remember in Bakersfield!) has been a long time in the making and finally opened to traffic August 2, 2013. The final segment was opened to traffic on April 15, 2015. This all concrete Parkway is smooth and so easy to drive on. Just be very careful of the cops parked on the entrances (especially the one west facing on the Mohawk entrance!). The road is so smooth sometimes you'll forget how fast you're really going. I believe that eventually, the Parkway will connect with the 99. There's been quite a few homes and buildings which have, sadly, been torn down to make way for the new connection. Hopefully, though, this will continue to eleviate the traffic issues that continues to plague Bakersfield as our community grows.

The bus is comfortable and the transportation…read moreis quick and efficient with professional and friendly drivers. 1 star for the absurdity that you CAN NOT purchase a ticket from Bako to Union Station (I was told on a couple occasions it's because the bus service isn't t technically Amtrak so they can't sell tickets for only that stretch.) So even though the bus says Amtrak and I pay Amtrak...one must purchase an extended route ticket - wasco to union station. It's ridiculous.
