It's been a long time since my mother and I had eaten Thai food. It's located on US-6 in Bristol, but though you can see the entrance, the location is unassuming and can be very easy to drive by. That said, if you do chance upon this place, you will NOT be disappointed and rather be glad you found this restaurant. The atmosphere of the place when you walk in is very peaceful, and while the place was empty when we walked in, more customers came in not long after we did. We grabbed a spot with two comfortable chairs by the window and our waiter was with us not long after we sat down, maybe around when the second customers came in. The man who waited our table may I say was very professional and polite, an example of what a good waiter should be. My mom and I placed our orders at 4:45. I opted for pork gyozas deep-fried and Yellow Duck Curry with no tomatoes while my mom had a small Tom Kha Soup, Hot Thai Tea, and a Goong Oop Woonsen. The tea came pretty much right away, and mom couldn't get enough of that tea! She drank a whole container full and got a second helping she loved it so much! I did partake in a sip and it definitely tasted like a good tea, but I let her have at it after that. It was her tea. The next things to come came in a little less than 10 minutes after placing the order: the gyozas and the Tom Kha. My gyozas came with a dipping sauce. There wasn't much of the sauce, but there was just enough that I was able to use all of my gyozas on it. It had a nice crunch to them, and the sauce worked really good with these! These gyozas were GOOD! Meanwhile, mom was enjoying her soup. In fact, she enjoyed it so much, she told the waiter it was the best soup she'd ever had! I'm not much of a soup guy, but my mom does enjoy a good soup, so when she says something is good, she means it! The entrées came out around 5:12 PM, and the ambience was still very peaceful at that time. Mom's food came in this kind of ceramic pot that I'd thought looked like such an epic pot of food to be served on, and it really fit the theme of the restaurant. She enjoyed the Goong Oop Woonsen as well, but couldn't really eat the rice that came with it, for she was feeling full. Then for my curry. It looked really good, and you had onion, pineapple, and pepper in there to go along with the duck. The duck had a crunch to it, but tasted good as a curry. The dish came together beautifully and I couldn't be happier with it. We both ordered jasmine rice, and the rice soaked up the yellow curry sauce perfectly! Truly a filling and satisfying meal! Even the price wasn't too bad! My part of the order before taxes came to $23.90, which would have been $25.53 after the tax. The entire thing was $58.53, which was really good for what we got. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Bristol or in the mood for Thai food! read more

Walking in, this is a small cool spot with great ambiance. There was no one else inside when we got there, but within 10 minutes of being there I saw about 4 different people come in for pick up orders. That gave me the feeling this place was going to be good. They had a nice selection of beers on tap, I went with Headway by Counterweight. The salad with the peanut sauce was great. I'm normally not a fan of the Thai peanut sauce but this had s little extra sweetness to it snd I really enjoyed it. For my meal I got the duck tamarind with brown rice. I had never had duck before and was nervous but wanted to try something new. It was amazing! Even in the Thai sweet chili sauce the duck was still super crispy and cooked to perfection. We recently moved to Bristol and live about 2 minutes from Thai Avenue Kitchen, so we were really hopeful that it was a great Thai restaurant given how much we enjoy the cuisine. We've picked up food there a number of times at this point and overall have been super happy with everything we have ordered. I always use Drunken Noodles as a litmus test for Thai restaurants and I just love theirs. We have also tried curries and other noodle dishes and everything is just consistent and tasty. Overall we will continue going back and we hope they continue doing what they're doing! read more

Thai Avenue is a fantastic restaurant! It is nicely decorated, comfortable, and has excellent food and moderate prices. Combine that with friendly service and all of my criteria for dining out are met!! My husband and I enjoyed curry puffs, drunken noodles with duck, and pad Thai with duck. It was all fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. No need to add any salt, sriracha, etc. The duck was nicely crisped on the outside and tender on the inside. Thai Avenue Kitchen occupies an unassuming spot along the main road, but the interior of this little surprise is unique and homey with a perfect little bar in front. The low-lit dining areas are filled with eccentric chairs and a mix of mass produced art with more sentimental pieces inspired by the owners. The quiet atmosphere is a perfect spot to enjoy an intimate dinner, just as I was able to do with my wife on a cozy Monday night. Once you get past the great vibe, you are then able to find the true jewel of this humble spot, the food. We started with an excellent appetizer of the Bags of Gold. Think fried chicken but instead of greasy skin the crunch comes from the lightly fried wonton wrapping a delicious mix of chicken inside. I enjoyed an excellent Tom Kha soup prior to my meal. The mix of lime and lemongrass flavors made it a wonderful precursor for my meal. The menu is complete with all of your favorite Thai dishes (i.e. curries, noodles, fried rice) but have an extensive selection of house specialties. This being our first visit we went for favorite staples of fried rice and curry. I had a Massaman curry with carrots and potatoes (not spicy even though the menu warned it was). The taste of the currey was sweet and aromatic; the accompanying pork and vegetables were wonderful as well. My wife had the Crab Fried Rice. It was on-par with the best I have ever tasted. The crab was a sweet undertone to the spices and the Chinese sausage. In summary, Thai Avenue Kitchen is a great venue with lots of character but the best part of this local spot is the menu. Thai Ave. Is the newest of the few Thai restaurants in town. I have tried them once for sit down lunch, but usually get takeout. Decor is modern and clean. My go to is the Thai Ave. Sampler, I love the variety and Veggie green curry, just right on mild heat...both are delicious! I have tried Pad Thai to go, and drunken noodles and both were a sticky mess of clumped up noodles upon arriving... won't do that again! For sit down, they are fine. Oh my god. The food is so good. The parking is horrible however the food more than makes up for it. We had trouble getting here since they opened but finally could and I'm so mad we waited to come here so long. Being vegetarian it's hard to find good food that isn't boring. Problem forever solved here. Husband and I both got the vegetable Pad See Ew. It's amazing. I couldn't stop eating it and pretty much inhaled the food it's that good. The portions are generous and even with as much as I ate I slowed down and had to bring some home. As for the restaurant itself, at the time we went it's very sensory friendly for autistic people like me. The music is nice and muted. The colors are dark and comfortable. The chairs are comfy. The lighting it dim and warm. No real sounds from the kitchen. Of course we went and were the only people there because we eat early, but it was perfect for me and for us in general. The portion size is great (definitely enough for two servings) and the pad Thai itself is super flavorful and filling!! The inside of the restaurant is also super cute, I'd love to enjoy a meal here at some point in the future! I ordered my meal on a Friday night- it took 15 minutes until being ready which was super convenient. I'd love to try either their calamari or pork gyoza for an appetizer next time!! Good Thai food, huge portions, super reasonable prices (below average for this state), and a cute atmosphere. I got the pad thai with pork, while my husband got the drunken noodles with beef. We enjoyed both very much, and seriously, it was enough food for us to have an entire second meal the next day. Our waitress was very nice and hospitable, despite us coming an hour before closing time and them having to deal with another customer's health crisis at the same time. There was a little trouble getting the bill printed, which resulted in us waiting for quite a bit of time at the end of our meal, but we weren't in a hurry and didn't much mind. Parking and Exterior: Parking is extremely tight in the front. I did not take a trip around the back of the building, but I would assume there is parking. The front only allows for about 5- 7 cars at max to park and is right off of the main street where cars whip by. The exterior is delphic; I've grown up close to this area and have always saw this building with its linen curtains and black and white vertical sign and always wondered what it would be like on the inside. Interior and Atmosphere: First thoughts walking in and looking around was this would be a perfect place for a date. It's average sized, but the decor is lively and the inside tranquil. I did notice they have random signs scattered about the restaurant that read things like "Family" and "Happiness is Homemade, and a few others that fall under the "Basic category", but they made up for it with their sleek white and blue booths and dark wood tables. To the right when you first walk in there are large chairs only for pairs, that are large and look very comforting. Food and Experience: I did not eat inside, but was greeted immediately. The waitress was attentive and nice. She walked me over to the bar to place my order. I ordered the "Oceans 11" which was an assortment of various seafood cooked in a chili with a side of rice and salad to go (zuppa di pesce is my favorite at any Italian place, old habits die hard). When I opened up my meal it had only about 10 minutes, a relatively low time when getting take out so with the food still be held to in-house standards, it was delicious; Just the right amount of heat and the spices mingled well with the aroma of the meal. The portions are not the largest, but I don't like over eating, this isn't a problem for me. The salad was fresh and had a typical carrot ginger dressing on top, but was not running or overwhelming like many chain-like restaurants (ex. Fuji). The Low Down ( for the short attention span): I've grown near the Bristol area and never went into this place until recently. Parking is tough, but you can make it work. Absolutely without a doubt the best Thai food I've ever had! Their beef pad thai is always perfect! Those bags of gold are just ridiculously tasty and always consistent perfectly golden fried!!! My husband gets something different each time, this past eve the dish dujour was the red curry chicken and I tried and loved it!! Great taste and a little heat!!! This time I tried the asian flank steak, the steak was good but a little to pink so I cooked it a lil longer but did not need a knife, the steak was like butter and the veggies were steamed but crisp my personal fave! I am VERY excited that this restaurant is only minutes from my house! My meal was delicious, filling, and reasonably priced. The menu here is extensive (and that is an understatement) so there seems to be an option for everyone. This is probably my utmost favorite Thai place around Bristol, CT; we went there because of a Groupon and stayed every since. We tried the Thai Avenue sampler which came with chicken satay, spring rolls, bag of gold, and shumai. The food came out hot, fresh, and as quick as possible. For entrées, we had the Peanut Lover (chicken with pineapple, water chestnuts, broccoli topped with peanut sauce) and the Tom yum noodle soup alongside Thai iced teas. The iced teas were phenomenal and you could smell the fragrance of the tea before drinking it. For the peanut lover, we liked how there was a lot of sauce. The sauce went well with all the food and whatever was left was poured into the rice making a yummy goodness of a meal. For the Tom yum, I could tell that the food was authentic and fresh, like how my mum would have made it, thus why my reason for coming back again and again. The only con would be the wait time and staff. There are only 1 or 2 people waiting so you do have to be patient and the location is on a super busy part of route 6 so getting in and out is a challenge, but other than that, definitely a place to check out! read more

Delicious! I had take-out from here previously, and most recently enjoyed a sit-down dinner here in person. We were seated immediately, and the decor and ambiance is very nice in here. It has an elegant feel to it and the chairs are very comfortable. It's very trendy and I was impressed by how nice it is! The service was friendly and attentive. The calamari appetizer was great, and my Pad Thai was among my favorite ever! I will be going back again and again for their Pad Thai. My husband enjoyed his curry very much too. The Thai sampler is also bangin, and it allows you to try a little bit of different apps. I also have to get the Tom Yum, because it's my fav soup in the world, and it's so tasty and cheap. Delicious food and super cute ambiance inside. I had the kao soy which was a bit different than what I was used to (made with red curry and not many bean sprouts/cilantro). However, it was delicious. My friend had the chicken pad thai lunch special which was good. We split the curry puffs which were delicate and flakey--probably one of the best curry puffs I've had before.
