A hipster dive bar that does the vibe right. You'll have to look a little to find this place, cause it's a pretty small venue that you could walk right by if you aren't looking for it. You'll definitely want to pop in if you can though cause it's got a unique vibe that's not to be missed. We decided to hit it up after another happy hour within walking distance. The place has been bookmarked for a while, so it was on the must try out list already. We walked on down and headed in. It feels like a house that was converted to a bar. When you walk in you'll see old couches and some paintings. Around the corner to the left is the bar itself. It's a pretty tight area and there are seats there, which means you'll have to work around people to get a drink, which was the only part I didn't love. This tiny bar that only sits 4 or 6 serves a good variety of craft cocktails. The place itself is pretty big, with tables and sofas, even a small stage for bands. Outside there are seats with a view of Mills Avenue. The bar: tiny. The drinks that I have gotten here have been pretty good. Even the punch, which is served sometimes for fundraisers, is good. You can't go wrong with any of the offerings. The bar itself is a piece of art, with many offbeat decorations. This place is eye candy and funky. What makes this place 5 stars is the entertainment. The bands that come here are super cool, and I really like the Monday Night Jazz. Finally, there is no TV screen here so you need to have some type of conversation. The service was great. I believe her name was Sam! Super sweet and helpful. I ordered a glass of wine. And she made sure that glass was clean before she served me. (I've gone to a lot of places where the glass will have water stains and I don't like that! So the fact that I saw her bring the glass to light.. I loved that!!) The space is different! Lil Indies is a bar attached to Will's Pub that serves craft cocktails. Its in a great location... you can have dinner nearby and walk here for a night cap. On some nights they have music-- we saw a man setting up a sitar but were unable to stay long enough to hear him play. We always go quite early- around 8pm... I imagine it gets pretty busy and crowded as the night goes on. I like that they have a dry hard cider in the fridge. My favorite original craft cocktail they serve right now has elderflower and lavender. They change the menu seasonally. Their menu rotates pretty frequently with a variety of interesting drinks. You can also get standard drinks or beer if you don't want a fancy cocktail. The bartenders are pretty nice. It can get busy at times, but they usually have a less hectic crowd than some other places. I've found Lil Indies to still be relatively chill even on Friday and Saturday nights as opposed to some other places where you'll wait forever to even reach the counter. This unique bar is located in the Winter Park/Orlando area. This is not your typical bar. As you walk through the closed door, you think, "did I enter the right door?" You enter into a room that takes you back in time to setting similar to a 1970's american living room. You proceed to pass through another retro room, which has me less confused and more curious. Just through the rooms is the dance floor and a small bar. I was invited by a friend on a Friday night to get a drink and I fell in love with the secretiveness of this establishment. The music being played was all throwbacks with the music video being displayed on a screen. The dance floor was packed with everyone busting their best 1990's moves. They had a special cocktail menu hanging on the wall that were super fun with beers and liquors of your choice. No cover charge which is always a bonus! GREAT cocktails! I love the intimate feel of this bar. It's dimly lit and has a few booths and a few high top tables as well as a bar along the left side. I decided to go with the cocktail on tap - the Gypsy Slang with my favorite Peruvian liquor, Pisco! It also had a wonderful herb in it and I requested a cherry because I suspected (correctly) that they have FABULOUS Maraschino cherries. Hipster dive bar... not our typical scene. My boyfriend and I wandered into Lil Indies for a drink on a Saturday night after having dinner just down Mills Ave. It was a very busy night inside and the space was packed with people. When we finally made it up to the bar after about 15 min of waiting in the crowd, we decided on two specialty cocktails to make it worth our time. The two bartenders were super crafty with their drink slinging - chipping away at ice blocks, adding drops of ingredients from medicine bottles, etc. However, with such a big crowd and so many orders flying in, I didn't feel like we got the $30 bar tab experience. The bartenders were working so frantically that I didn't get to enjoy watching her make my drink. We're just not the crowd this bar caters to (you can usually find us tossing bean bags at a brewery). I loved everything about this bar from the moment we walked in. The vintage furniture and cool art all over the walls plus the live music was excellent too... already a recipe for good times. Then we got down to ordering some drinks. I had a few that night but one of them was outstanding enough I had to go back for more... When It Goes A Rye. I'm a big fan of Bulleit Rye in the first place but the combination of ingredients in this cocktail created the perfect storm for me. Some genius decided to add cold brew coffee for that fresh brewed flavor as well as ancho chili for a tiny kick of heat. then mix in a little honey to make it ever-so-slightly sweet. Next it's finished off with mole bitters which works so well with the coffee flavor. I haven't got around to it yet but I am seriously considering recreating this beverage at home. read more

I have been coming here for years and it's always a great time. This bar appears to have been an old house at one time that they converted into a bar and lounge area. You will find antique furniture and pictures throughout the venue and live music or Djs on certain nights. The bar staff is friendly and efficient and the drinks never disappoint. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is because the bathroom needs some work. There is only one bathroom for both men and women and it wasn't really that clean the last time I was there. If Burro Bar and The Volstead in Jacksonville had a baby, it would be Lil Indies. I am not kidding. Lil Indies has the vibe of Burro (RIP), but the mixologists and creativity of The Volstead. What an adorable little dive with fantastic cocktails and live music to boot. We must have shown up at the perfect time because there was just enough room for us to get our first round of drinks from the bar before the crowds really started showing up. I chose Into the Void for my cocktail, which was vodka-based with passionfruit, lemon, thyme, and a few other ingredients. It ended up being almost a lavender color at the finish. It was so delicious that I had two additional ones. The live music on this night was a gentleman and his accompanying band, who played a mix of jazz and the blues. A local friend had said it was a show that we didn't want to miss, and he was absolutely correct. The lead of the band was hysterical, and the entire set was amazing. All of us, even my friends who aren't as into jazz and the blues, were wholly transfixed. Lil Indies is a very small place, so if you're a bit claustrophobic, it may not be the bar that you'll enjoy. However, I loved how quaint and sweet it was, especially walking right into an, almost, sitting room as you entered. Lil Indies is definitely a Mandie bar, and I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up. read more

It's my favorite, what I would call, dive bar in Orlando but it has craft cocktails that you'd expect at a posh mixology bar and one if the best whisk(e)y selections I've seen in Orlando. They hand cut their ice cubes from a giant block with a chainsaw. Their quirky craft cocktails rotate frequently and include things you never knew you wanted to try like mezcal and yogurt. They also have a few taps for interesting beer and bottles and cans. They have happy hour every day with specials on beer, wine, and cocktails. They also have a package license so you can take bottles of liquor and beer to go, which includes items that may be hard to find in stores. They have live music several times a week (if Eugene Snowden and his 10 Pints of Truth are playing, you're in for a treat), host other events like trivia and discussions, and have local art on the walls for sale. The vibe is very hard to peg and the decor is eclectic. This is a very quirky spot that pretty much guarantees a good drink and a fun night. read more

4 stars for a hipster bar that actually gets it right. When it comes to unique cocktail bars aka hipster bars, many places get a little too "stuffy" with the concept. Whether it is an uncomfortable atmosphere or high-priced drinks that include ingredients just for the sake of justifying the price, many hipster bars aren't worth repeated visits. Fortunately, Lil Indies, located in the Mills District, doesn't fall into those traps. When you show up at Lil Indies, the first thing I always seem to find is a fun food stand right outside. Whether it is empanadas or hot dogs, I've generally been able to get some street food before heading inside. Once you walk inside, you immediately see what looks like a cross between a haunted and 70's style living room. While I wasn't sure where I was the first time I visited, I will tell you that having all of these comfy couches and little tables makes the late night experience much more enjoyable for us old folks. If you want a drink (since you are at a bar), the way you get one is to go over into the next room. Unlike the front room, the next room is an open (although small and dark) area with a bar. When you get up to the bar, you will see several boards with various drink options. One is a beer board (draft and bottle, another is a seasonal cocktails board with some interesting seasonal cocktails with "written out" looking text, and then a cocktails board with more cocktails in a more traditional font. Behind the bar is a wall with tons and tons of liquors for the bartenders to pull and use. I've ordered a couple of the drinks (can't quite remember the names due to the time of night, but I think the one pictured is a Snax Appeal), and the bartender has always been willing to explain what is in the drink and made me something that tasted quite delicious. Overall, the combination of a cool and comfy seating concept with good drinks makes Lil Indies one of the better cocktail bars in Orlando. If you are looking for a cocktail while in the Mills District, this is a place you should check out. read more

We went here on the Approximately 12 pubs of xmas pub crawl. This is a nice little bar, with two extra rooms that have an eclectic mix of comfy old-timey sofas in them. The best thing was they make real cocktails, as in mixing several high quality ingredients in a shaker, something many bartenders are clueless how to do. I can cite three bartenders downtown on Orange Ave that either didn't have the 3 ingredients needed to make a mind eraser, didn't know what a muddler was to make a proper mojito and didn't know what a purple hooter was. Went here for the first time on St. Patties. They were part of a pub crawl for the night. Really amazing drinks; it reminded me of marvel bar and other speakeasy spots. The vibe is awesome and laid back though. They have a lot of different rooms and outside seating depending on what you want. They even have a little coffee bar in the basement for certain days. I had a variety of gin drinks and walked around looking at all the art. It's a pretty cool spot I recommend anyone visiting Orlando stop by for a spell. read more

Also, they host the Barrel to Bottle Society (http://www.yelp.com/biz/barrel-to-bottle-society-orlando) so that just scores mega points there. Kaitlin McGavock rocks her libation love to the max here. If you have no idea what you are in the mood for, walk up to her, tell her your desires (sweet, strong, aromatic, refined, etc) she will bring you something you didn't even knew existed or your favorite new beverage of choice. Chick knows what's up! I am always delighted to see a new variety of high end cocktails on the menu when I walk in. Looks like I have to take notes of which cocktails I order next time because all I can say is everything was intoxicating. Recently, the evening I was there was 90's night. The DJ played tunes AND videos of the 90's - such a nice background to hang out with my friends, enjoy a cold beverage, and relax. Lil Indies suddenly became my other hangout (next to Imperial at Washburn). How did that happen? Probably due to the fact that local DJ BMF spins 45s on Friday nights. (So, should I be writing a review of DJ BMF instead? Eh, no matter...) I like Lil Indies for a few reasons - one personal reason is that it's so close to where I live (Mills/50 area, next to Wills). It's just a good place to chill and have one of their specialty craft cocktails, which change every so often and are always quite excellent. Be warned: these are strong cocktails (I just had one and that was enough to get a buzz from - maybe one day I'll tell you about the time I had 2). This past Friday I ordered a "Holiday in Cambodia" (cue Dead Kennedys song now). Bourbon and citrus ingredients. Bartenders are good, and they are friendly. Place is dimly lit, which works. My only complaint was the lack of seating inside, but I noticed that this has recently been rectified by the addition of a whole new backroom (right behind the DJ booth). Plenty of seating now, and as always you can sit outside where the food truck sits (although I have heard that Wills Pub will be grabbing that outside seating area soon). Lil Indies also serves up various specialty beers and they always have something interesting on tap. Like I mentioned, I usually go Friday nights, and it's weird in the sense that you never can tell if there will be a crowd or not. Sometimes, the place is packed, and sometimes it's deader than a doornail. Take this past Friday - dead, until about 1am, then all sorts of people came in and then it was a party. Overall a good, intimate bar experience that can possibly get noisy, but now you can escape that noise into the back room if you wish. If Kaitlin is working the bar, ask her to make you something. It almost looks shut down, in a way, if there is no one sitting outside. The whole place is all wood, so there is a rustic feel to it. Paintings on the wall by local artists, and a big picture of a dog on the wall that says that dogs are welcomed here. Bartender was very nice and friendly. Craft beers and wines are on the menu. Located right next to Will's Pub. We haven't been here in a year. Bar area has been remodeled and opens up the room. Sat with bartender Dan tonight. He is very knowledgeable with his craft cocktails & actually has his own concoctions on the menu. I enjoyed a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned & my fiancé requested one of Dan's specialties... the 6 shots or 5 for $10 which consisted of Old Forester Bourbon, cold brew coffee, lemon & Pineapple. Amazingly balanced and layered flavor cocktail. There's also a cute little area located out in the patio area called Dirty Laundry which is only open on the weekend. Although the place is small, they do have a fair amount sitting, they have the bar, booths, tables, and couches. The place is surrounded by painting from local artists for sale, which is really cool! The atmosphere of the place is a very relaxed one. You come in and you're immediately in a great mood and are excited for the fun night ahead of you. I did not see any food offerings, but the drinks are well prepared and timely. We went on a Sunday (Veterans Day) and there was a sort of market outside. I had the Pet Names (hot tea with bourbon, $9) and the lady had a Cosmonaut (Gin, cranberry, lime, $10). No complaints with either - very tasty. We will definitely be back. read more
