Some friendly lunch menu suggestions: The "hands" (sandwiches/burgers) options are all meat, not a single option without meat. Come on guys. One non-meat sandwich option would be nice. The "forks" (entrees) section price range of $15-21 is fine, but maybe toss in a few smaller portion entrees for $12? Some diners want to go big with lunch, while others may prefer a lighter bite and conversation. Two good candidates for price adjustments might be the avocado toast ($15) and the soup ($16). Perhaps the avocado toast is generous and totally amazing, but $15 for avocado toast? Not something diners see often. My wife ordered the soup. It was delicious, but came in a half-full, normal-sized bowl with one piece of focaccia. We noticed another diner get the soup with two pieces of focaccia. Either way, $16 for soup is rather uncommon. Still, overall, you guys are doing a great job. Keep up the good work! read more

We went to Lillians for lunch. So I am reviewing their lunch options (not breakfast or brunch). I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. It feels very homey. The little market at the entrance is a great place to look around if you have to wait for a table. There are tables downstairs and upstairs, with an upstairs bar, as well as a rooftop seating area. So, overall, the place is great in terms of seating options. And the staff was very helpful. The menu however left me a bit disappointed on a couple of fronts. First, there really isn't much in terms of vegetarian options. Second, the prices are about $6-10 too much in some cases. For instance, I got the vegan butternut squash soup--it was $16 for just a cup of soup with one piece of cold focaccia. I've never paid $16 for a cup of soup. Never. Ever. For me, it should have been $8-10 based on size alone. Maybe $12 if it were a bowl...but it wasn't. It was a cup. It also tasted like vinegar. In hindsight, I should have sent it back...but I didn't want to be "one of those people". Next, their sandwiches are between $17-$21. That's just a lot for a sandwich no matter how you look at it. It just seems like there should be a couple of lunch option that are #1-Vegetarian and #2--in a lower price range. I came here for lunch with a few girlfriends and we sat outside on the roof, it was a cute little spot. Small cafe as you enter and I was brought upstairs to the roof to meet my girls - I loved the ambiance of it. Now as for the food and drink, it left much to be desired. I ordered the turkey wrap which did not have much turkey (at least in mine) and was dry. The potatoes though were delicious and nicely seasoned. I ordered a mocktail and the taste was off-putting and musty, I believe it was a Peace of Mind. I don't know what in it would taste musty but I couldn't finish it after one sip. Service was also slow but our waiter was kind. We love Lill's! Living in Hampton Park Terrace, this is my staple for all things espresso, sweet treats, HH, and just grabbing a bottle from their shop. They carry Rio Bertolos as well if you don't have time to cook or sit down for dinner. The menus change seasonally but their butter biscuits are always there (heat up if you take to go). My pup loves the dog parking! Everyone who works here is super friendly to her and one person even stayed outside to keep her company while I ordered. Fresh foods from nearby farmers and suppliers will keep you coming back and making Lillian's a regular stop. With a great team heading up Lillian's and each team member having wonderful backgrounds Lillian's is sure to succeed! Went to Lillian's for the first time last weekend for a Sunday brunch, and I was not disappointed. Everything on their menu sounds delicious, and I was torn on what to order. We came in without a reservation, and they happily sat our group of five outside on their rooftop. This building surprised me because when you first walk in, it seems like a grab-and-go shop. To my surprise, there was a full indoor area and an outdoor rooftop restaurant. Our server was terrific and attentive, even though we could see she was juggling multiple tables at once. My friend and I split the "Lil's breakfast Crunchwrap- and wow! This caught my eye with its uniqueness, and we both loved it. Others at the table ordered the Grilled Breakfast Wrap, the BEC Sandwich, and the Breakfast Plate. Along with an intriguing, Matcha based beverage, I came seeking the southern taste of grits. Beautiful new little market and coffee bar. I believe they are also a full service restaurant, but we just came for a coffee. The cortado was absolutely delicious and they even serve it in a Le Creuset saucer. The vibe in here is really nice, like a little neighborhood spot but with a high-end feel. Had dinner at Lillian's last night for the first time since they opened. Was a frequent regular at the previous establishment. I'm happy to see that they kept a lot of the same ambiance, although you could see where they made adjustments to give it a different feel. The market downstairs when you walk in has a lot of cool, local, stuff for sale. For an appetizer, we split the small plate of crispy maitake mushrooms. They came with pickled red cabbage and were resting on a bed of deviled egg puree. Very tasty on all counts, but left me wanting more. My entree was the hand cut pasta, which came mixed with oyster mushrooms and a shredded cheese in a tasty sauce. There were no leftovers. The pasta was freshly made and cooked. The mushrooms were flavorful. Oyster mushrooms are one of my favorites and they did them justice. Our server was very friendly and kept the water full and was on time with all requests. read more

Cute brunch spot located downtown Charleston. Very small but cozy. The seating is very close to other guests. Negative was the door was kept open and the flies kept circling as we ate, it was very obnoxious. The server was nice but I would not say friendly. She must have forgotten to enter our cocktails so they took forever and came out after our food. The food was just ok, nothing special. I made a reservation for this place at 10:20 PM the night before and then cancelled it at 11:30 PM (during prime reservation time, obviously). The reservation was for 9 AM the next morning and there were plenty of reservations available. I was charged $200 for my 8 person reservation for holding on to it for 1 hour and 10 mins. The RESY email states, "Any waiver of the fee is at the sole discretion of the restaurant." The restaurant proceeded to tell me they couldn't do anything. So, they blatantly lied to me. Plus, they said they don't get any of that money which is also a lie per RESY. I was told, if I cancelled my reservation 13 hours before I had even made it, the fee would have been waived. I came here not expecting it to be one of my new go to spots! The quality of the food blew my socks off. All of the servers and staff are such cool individuals with warm personalities. Besides the food, I'd say the general ambience is my favorite part of this place. So cozy inside and it feels like grandma's house. Lillian's used to be Harold's Cabin, a beloved neighborhood favorite. Lillian was "Harold"'s wife; it's cool that they are paying homage to such a treasured space! The soup and sandy is a classic; they cook their grilled cheese with a thin layer of crispy cheese on top of the bread. Gives so much flavor. The breakfast plate is my favorite thing I've tried there. Their biscuits and sausage are very clearly made homemade. Again the quality of the food is so great and fill you up. This is such a special restaurant! We visited from out of town this past weekend with our three kids. The server warmly greeted us, and we had a quiet, relaxed, delicious meal. The fresh pasta, duck, ceviche, and mahi were all absolutely delicious. They tasted honest, homemade, clean yet decadent. Though they don't advertise a kid's menu, they do have one. Our kids gobbled up the Mac and cheese, and we had to order another serving (just so parents know, it was a bit more like a large tortellini with a really yummy cheese sauce). We got to meet both the chef and owner while we were there, which was unique for all. We rarely go to restaurants where we feel like we get both relationships and great food. It felt casual yet personal. We got both here. It's one of the most special dining experiences we've ever had and can't wait to return. read more

We stopped into Lillian's for brunch with the kiddos last Sunday before hitting the museum. The whole meal from top to bottom was outstanding- I don't give out 5 stars often but this was definitely a 5 star brunch. We were sat promptly at our reservation time in the downstairs dining room- little marble tables were a bit interesting for the kids array of crap they insist on bringing to every meal, but we made it work without losing any markers pr crayons. We enjoyed the breakfast burrito and the west side burger, and the kids had the French toast and then the kids breakfast plate. We also got a bowl of cheesy grits. Everything was hot, delicious and the food, presentation and service was outstanding in quality. We snagged a pack of lemon macarons from the market as we left - so delicious.
