Lillo's new location is nice--but this cheesesteak might be even better. Lillo's Tomato Pies, Gloucester City, NJ. Lillo's has opened a 2nd location, and this time it's a bar. A very nice bar. They had a lively Sunday afternoon crowd, and Lillo seems to be doing a great job in the new space. A few years ago, Lillo's represented the NJ/DE region in the Final Four of March Cheesesteak Madness, so they already have a strong tournament history. This visit only added to that reputation. I got a cheesesteak with fried onions, and this may have been the best cheesesteak I've had from Lillo's. Without extra credit for alcohol. They're using a new roll, and I got some insider information on it--but I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, so that's all you're getting. What I can say is this: it is a very good roll. This cheesesteak had a lot of meat, a lot of cheese, and overall it was excellent. It absolutely feels like a cheesesteak that could win March Cheesesteak Madness. My only note is that I'd like to taste a little more of the meat, and I'd be happy with a little less cheese. Great visit. Congratulations, Lillo! read more

I called an placed an order at 3pm for 20 wings and a stromboli. I was told it would be ready to pick up in 30 minutes. I arrived at 3:35 and was greeted immediately. My wings were ready but the stromboli wasn't. The server went to the kitchen and after a few minutes she came back and said the stromboli would be done in a few minutes. She asked if I wanted a drink while I waited. I declined. A few minutes turned into 5, the 10 and 15. A new worker came in and asked if I was being helped. I explained my wait and she went to the back. Again she said a few minutes. This time she was correct. My stromboli was brought out to me at 4pm. They clearly forgot to make it. Now... let me tell you, the wings and stromboli were delicious. The amount of flavor they both had really made up for their error. It was my first time ordering from there but will not be my last. Don't really know how to rate Lillo's. It was oh so good and yet so bad. First, the area a little sketch. Vibe of the place is good. I can see myself drinking here for hours at the bar. Food. Roast pork. Great flavor but really dry. Needed Au Jus or at least the pork dipped. Bread the sandwiches are on is fantastic. Chicken cheesesteak with pepperoni and hot honey seems like it wouldn't work but it does. The only negative is I'd like the chicken chopped more. Cheesesteak, so meaty, so cheesy. I'd have liked more caramelized onions and I'm going to go as far as to say a little less meat. Solid though. The pizza. Where to begin. Ours was burnt. Blackened crust top and bottom. it'd give it 3 stars. Sauce was just meh to me, tasted like it came from a can, but the dough was very good. I love a bready pizza. If the pizza would have been baked properly the crust would have been soft airy. A home run but being burnt it was just a 1st base hit. Owner did bring over some fried pizza dough drizzled with hot honey. Oh my goodness. So, so good. It should be added to the menu for sure. Service. Decent. Restrooms. Clean. Well. We came about 1:30 pm on a Sunday after being at the local baseball fields for a tournament. The space is beautiful. We grabbed a table. The waitress got us started with drinks! Would have preferred a cup with a lid for my 5 year old. We ordered a pizza, fries and cheesesteak without cheese. My 10 year old wanted it and doesn't eat cheese. He devoured it, my husband ate the other half, despite no cheese, he really enjoyed it and the roll! The fries, perfection, totally crispy. The pizza, darn I wanted it to be great. It was soggy and floppy but the last 2-2.5 inches of the slice were how the pizza is likely supposed to be. We did half with sausage. Would go back for the cheesesteak. Finally tried lillo's in Gloucester city. Pictured is half the sandwich. The cheesesteak is very good. Large pieces of onions, dare I say it had too much cheese!! Every time I put the sandwich down I had to wipe my hands. Very messy. The roll was tasty but was very dense and chewy. Not exactly to my liking but not horrible. A personal pet peeve is wrapping the paper into the sandwich making you have to reassemble the sandwich to eat it. Ggggrrrr If you look on the website the menu lists the sandwich much cheaper than the actual cost. Be forewarned. Overall a very good sandwich, does it meet the hype? Ranking the cheesesteaks I've tried lately has become a serious challenge, but Lillo's might have just claimed the top spot, or at least placed near it. We ordered over DoorDash and it arrived quick, hot, and ready in very secure packaging that kept everything fresh. Lillo's was offering a BOGO deal for fries, and they didn't disappoint at all. The portions were loaded with fries that had a delicious, slightly sweet taste to them that made them stand out. These sandwiches are loaded with perfectly cooked, cheesy meat, and every bite had us making the yum face. I read that Lillo's does a garlic spread for their sandwiches, and that is the key ingredient because it absolutely shines through with every bite. I still love my Gouldsburger and Burgerr Runn (formally Smash Bros), but Lillo's might be making its way into the rotation more frequently. read more

I'm not sure why people say the steaks aren't the same as Hainsport but they are. The food here is excellent. The service here is also excellent. Overall the place is pretty clean. They have a decent beer selection but not many seats at the bar. I do not like the way the inside is laid out with the weird bar in the middle and the awkward seating by the door so sitting at a table solves that. I'm not sure if there is still seating upstairs. 20000% recommend for lunch or dinner. read more

This place is terrific!! I'm a Philly girl through and through, but their cheese steak is fantastic. The meat is so tender and melts in your mouth. They do all their sandwiches on a seeded roll with garlic butter. The tomato pie is sooooo good. This location has a bar, and the cocktails are 100!! The staff is so friendly and attentive. Great pie. Crispy chewy crust and delicious sauce. Had my secondary favorite sausage and onion. I went in w my buddy hoping for our favorite topping ....... Anchovy..... but was told "we're not allowed to put anchovies in the oven"!!! Come on!!!! Every damn good pizza spot makes anchovy pizza!!! Give me a break. I'd have given a 5 but the anchovy excuse was lame and cost it a point! Get anchovy dammit!!! Guarantee I'm not the only one this pisses off! I live by the hainesport lillos n just love that place. I tell every1 about it. So i came in town for my uncles 75 birthday and said i will get the food from this great place. Man i hyped it up. When i called at 3:30 they said 15 - 20 mins. I said i jist wanted to get the order in but need it for 4:30 as i was coming in from outta town. Well like the other store the cheesesteak was the best. Unfortanitly the pizza was the worst ever. I dont know but im guessing it was made to early and left sitting on the oven like i see other places do while waiting for the puck up. It was so hard n dry. Couldnt even get close to the crust. It was like a hockey puck. So i will say im sure the food is good, but never, ever order something in advance. The timing had to be way off. Every1 got 1 or 2 bites from the pizza and all 8 of us ate a sliver of the cheese steaks. Very disapointed read more

Grew up in Trenton, worked at DeLorenzo's Hamilton Ave/Sloan and always loved both equally as well as Papa's and Schuesters. They advertise a Trenton style tomato pie. Taste was spot on, only noticeable difference was the thickness. Trenton has a wafer thin pie where this was thicker and heartier. Cheesesteak was awesome. Prices were good. read more

So I want to give 5 stars. I really do. ......but..... 2.5. so I love LILOs in Hainesport to the point I've recommended it to all my friends and even strangers. Been here twice now. They need to get their shit together then I'll leave 5 stars. Arrived at restaurant at 8:30. We were 2 out 6 people in the place. We sat at bar. Looked at the single menu we were handed for two people. NO PRICES on it. it was like we were at an expensive country club where you are rich enough not to have to ask prices. Asked for a menu with prices and was told just ask and the her (the bartender) would let us know the prices. Ordered a pizza and a couple of drinks. ( Again we were at this point the only party eating at a pizza restaurant). We now sat and waited for at least 40 mins and were now served luke warm pizza at best. Asked for a little crispy and it was burnt on ends which I honestly didn't have a problem with. I like burnt crust. But the only pizza served in a place with tomato pies as part of their name was served cold when it should burn my mouth. Come on?? we ate only 2 pieces each and my buddy and I discussed whether we should say something. We didn't because the bartender was very nice and friendly. We each ate two slices when we Woudl have finished it any other day I bit my tongue as long as I could and then told the bartender that I brought my friend to impress him with an amazing pizza which was cold and that when we left she should at least tell the manager about my comment. she then responded that the kitchen is supposed to ring the bell when food Was ready. I Never heard a bell but then again she never checked to see if it was ready with only having 4 people at the bar. Pizza tasted good but nothing like hainesport where it's great.
