Lilo's is a place I imagine a fair amount of the Portland crowd bounces into once or twice a year if you are looking for Hawaiian food after a hike or on their way to Hood River and want to just consume a liquid diet in town. All meat is prepared with a smoker in the front of the store, it comes with rice and Mac salad. Everything was very average. Smoked chicken is not my jam for this style and all the sauces and spices they offer for toppings are very bland (the sauce is NOT the boss at this Lilo's) so it results in a salty/smoky smorgasbord. I thought that the pricing was high for the ingredients you are buying. I don't have a picture to validate the numbers onto this review. If you are into smoked pork, chicken, ribs, etc on rice with lousy sauce options then this place is for you. If you prefer grilled chicken teriyaki on a BBQ, keep on the search. Cheers! read more

alright let me first off by saying, i normally love lilos. i ordered lilos while pregnant with my daughter and it's always been a staple spot for us. so when i ordered my food I got my usual (big kahuna) and my boyfriend picked up a habanero barbecue steak sandwich. when my food arrived via my boyfriend (pick up order), i was so excited to open and dig in. when I opened my box, I could already tell my meal didn't look as fresh as it normally does. I decided why not to at least take a couple bites. the bites I did take I did not enjoy at all. first bite i had taken it was straight fat, the second bite was chewy.. the meat was a huge let down! the coleslaw and the mac salad both had a really funny taste in the sauce... i felt so disgusted. i was so upset i had to call, before calling my boyfriend had me take a bite out of his sandwich and it was so awful.. the cheese that was melted on there was like plastic and the meat was chewy. i don't understand how they can be a-ok with serving this.. Anyways. someone had answered and i had asked for a manager and they put a guy on the phone who was very abrupt, loud and had a bad tone and didn't seem to wanna hear me give him my complaints. phone call - me : hi, sorry to be calling about my meal but I'm really disappointed in it... typically i really love your guys food, but i'm so not happy with my food... him: slight pause - what.. uh is wrong with it? me: the meat is super chewy, i got a piece of fat my first bite and the sauce of the coleslaw and mac salad taste super sour and funny.. him: not possible! *gets loud* we make aaahh..every thing fresh!!! me: well, i'm not lying, i can send you pictures because i'm really super disappointed. him: you want your money back or ahh?!! me: yes. him: ok lemme find your meal, what all you order? me: *tells him my order* him: *cuts me off* ok, well i don't know what is a wrong with the food we make every thing fresh!!! me: and that's why i'm calling, i'm really not happy with my meal and you guys typically do a good job. him: where you order from? me: the dalles and hood river.. him: ok well it is all the same! me: okay... well i'm sorry if my comments are making you ups- him: i find your order i give back your money me: okay thank you have a- him: *hangs up on me* !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????!?!??? yeah, we won't be back here. read more

We stopped here on our way to Mount Hood because we were starving and Lilo's had decent reviews. I didn't have high hopes because it seems as if restaurants in the Mount Hood area have slightly inflated reviews due to there being limited options. It wasn't bad at all but it also wasn't good. One huge bummer to me was the lack of vegetarian friendly options. They did offer two different types of salads but only because someone doesn't eat meat does not mean they crave leaves 24/7... I do have to admit that the portions were huge for what you paid for but huge those huge portions did not equal amazing food. They did offer a bunch of sauces that everyone in my family seemed to enjoy. But the Mac salad made my entire family nauseous although it did taste good. Not sure if it wasn't fresh or what. In summary I'd say in comparison to what is available in the area they are decent but there's definitely much better Hawaiian food out there that is full of flavor and is definitely freshly made. read more

Stopped in hood river, Oregon for the night and came across this place on yelp. Ended up being only a 2 minute drive from our hotel. The gf and I went to check it out and ordered huli chicken with yakisoba noodle soup and kahlua pig with rice and macaroni salad. I'm not a picky eater but this stuff was real good. This place is amazing and the real deal. We've spent a couple months in Hawaii and this was exactly like some of our favorite meals we had while there. Excellent Hawaiian BBQ our in the Gorge. Definitely recommend their homemade bbq sauce, so good on anything and not your typical teriyaki bbq - not too sweet and a taste like I haven't found in the Portland metro area. Lilo's also bbqs right out front so you know it's fresh and free smells never hurt anybody! This place is tucked in the corner of the goodwill store. They have parking lot shared with other stores around. The place looks a bit dirty from the indoor bbq but the food is amazing. Their Huli chicken is so soft and tasty. It comes with rice and Mac salad, garnished with a slice of pineapple. You can asked different sauce to compliment your chicken, but even without the sauce the chicken is already flavorful and juicy. The portion is pretty big and it's not too expensive. The service is fast and the workers are very friendly. I will definitely comeback to try different menus. read more

Hubby had ribs (a special) which were also very good and came with FABULOUS macaroni salad. I'm reserving a star for a couple reasons - interior is pretty spartan so comes across as a sterile fast food kind of place. Also, menu is pretty limited. They should get a license to sell beer. Super surprised we lucked out finding this spot in the middle of our adventure touring the Colombia river gorge area. The food was great!! I ordered the ginger beer and my husband the Kaula pork. It came with rice, and Hawaiian pasta (very similar to pasta salad). Be sure to add the 3 sauces they have on the table.. Makes it even better!! HOLY COW. or chicken, we'll go with holy chicken for this review :) What a secret little find in Hood River! I swung by here back when it was next to Pizzacato where we ate that particular day. As we were leaving Hood River I wanted a high-protein meal before our drive back and remembered the hawaiian grill, and IT WAS OPEN! I got their chicken plate and an order of their haupia. The girl at the front was very sweet and quirky and loaded my plate up like crazy! (I'm talking I could barely finish just the chicken portion!) Food Verdict; Chicken was smoked in their smoker outside and man the flavor was awesome, mac salad on point and sticky rice was great but a tiny bit overcooked. Haupia was to die for such a yummy treat, I enjoyed the pieces of coconut inside it- that you don't find everywhere. Next time we pass through we're going to try the kalua pork and their mahi mahi. Yummy Yum Yum !! This is Hawaiian and has the Asian influence big time. I love their food. I was getting the Huli Chicken with sticky rice which is good but once I tried it with the soba noodles and broth I.CANNOT.STOP.EATING.IT !! The staff are so nice and friendly and get your meal to you in a timely manner. The place is always very clean. There is a big BBQ set up outside where he cooks the meat daily! The aroma of the meats waft clear over to Walmart HAHA Honey drop that can-o-spam we are heading to Lilos. You can eat outside at one of the tables with a little umbrella but on an especially windy day you might want to go inside. All their foods are really good and I think the portions are large. The large is 2 meals for me. They have a nice variety of meals and the haupia which is pineapple and coconut pudding stuff is super good and a nice treat after a meal or just go in for that ! You can eat it there or take it home. Just beware of carrying the hot broth. Make sure it stays upright or like me half will be on your floor. But my doggies liked that! read more

After hearing great things about this place, decided to finally stop in and give it a whirl. Wow, so glad I did! Food and service were great! I couldn't decide on the meat between the chicken, pork and beef so decided to go with the big kahuna to try all three. I'm not a big fan of rice in general so went with the yakisoba. They nailed it! Here's the play by play: The beef is bomb. It has a tangy yet smoky flavor to it. I have no idea how they get it so perfectly cooked with the sear on the outside and slightly pink on the inside. Reminds me of an oriental style barbecue beef but with a sweeter and more complex Hawaiian style. In the yakisoba sauce, it practically melts in your mouth. My favorite of the three. Pork is pulled and has a very subtle savory seasoning to it. The pork flavor balances well with the barbecue flavor. As far as Kahlua style pork is concerned they nailed it. Chicken is good for smoked chicken. Much dryer than the beef or the pork but I would still consider it 'al dente'. Definitely heavier on the smoke flavor than the rest but with a good hearty consistency and served in large chunks. Pairs great with the wide array of barbecue sauces. Wife had the Mahi Mahi and I expected the typical 'made for fish tacos' pile of fish meat. Instead, she got a generous whole filet of fish! It was skillfully cooked with an outside seer and still left on the skin. As with any Mahi Mahi, it had a slight fishy taste but was in no way overpowering for the mild teriyaki seasoning. The meat was light and flaky with enough fat to keep the mouth watering. She shared it with our 3 year old and it was plenty. As you can see, each meat had a distinct texture and flavor and cooked to perfection. The yakisoba was alright , held up to the meat favors well enough. The sauce was mild and not too salty, helped accentuate the subtle smoky flavor of the meat. Macaroni salad was great too! Usually it is over salted but here it tastes fresh and not overpoweringly sweet or salty. Overall, this place will become my 'go to' for a big plate of BBQ meat and a side of Aloha! read more

We ordered the specialty of the restaurant - in house smoked chicken, pork and beef, all entrees came with Hawaiian Jasmine rice and macaroni salad. Everything was cooked to perfection! We also had choice of sauces on our table that brought extra flavor to our dishes. And for desert each entree had a slice of pineapple, which was the perfect finish for our lunch.
