We're traveling for our own 2025 Jubilee Pilgrimage, my husband and I, and we stopped in The Dalles for lunch, on our way to SE USA, destination of our pilgrimage. We wanted something 'beef' and Lilo's popped up on YELP and it was highly rated. The menu items were explained carefully by staff, we selected what we wanted and decided to take out and had a very nice picnic in our car. We ordered the Big Kohuna: chicken, pork, beef, 2 scoops rice, two scoops of macaroni. And pineapple, guava and orange drink. Everything tasted has one would expect from a Hawaiian restaurant. I'm in The Dalles for work and I was hungry for something besides the usual. I pulled up door dash and saw Lilo's Hawaiian BBQ. When I was young, I had the opportunity to live on Oahu with my dad when he was called up for active duty at MCB Kaneohe Bay in 2002 and have had many plate lunches while I was there. I got the Big Kahuna; from the first bite I was instantly transported back in time and across the pacific to Oahu to Hawai'i. Mac Salad was amazing, proteins were perfect, and the rice is better than my own sticky rice. It was a mixed crowd of families with children and couples. There is ample seating for about 30+ guests. Parking is primarily on-street parking. There is a public parking lot about a couple of blocks away. Service: Staff member upfront was efficient and cordial. She took your order and brought it out to your table when it was ready. She also picked up empty dishes & cups and wiped the tables. Hint: when your done eating & drinking, clean-up of after your done and bring your baskets and cups to the trash bin and utility cart. My wife asked me: "Why did you order Cheeseburger and Fries, when you can get that anywhere". I was excited to try this place but was bummed with the service (grumpy guy at register for no apparent reason) and quality of the Huli Huli chicken. I guess I expected slow cooked shredded protein but got a smoked thigh that was rubbery at best. Rice was over cooked but the Mac salad was the saving grace. Felt the price was ok but it would be hard for me to come back again. Felt dark an uninviting when I walked in. Hope others have a better experience. I had the steak sandwich. I'm not a fan of whole large pieces of steak in my sandwich. I like when the meat is chopped up for easier eating. I found it a little difficult to eat this sandwich. Overall: Really flavorful, large portions and reasonable cost. Our family of 2.5 (mom, dad and toddler) ordered the Big Kahuna plate, Tofu bento (yakisoba), and a side of steamed veggies to share -- and ended up with leftovers. The meats were all top-notch, yakisoba still sizzling on arrival and as others have stated here - the Mac salad is FANTASTIC. I've never liked Mac salad so much....and I love Mac salad. The interior could use some updating. It looks like it was possibly a pizza place or Mexican restaurant prior to Lilo's moving in? They've added a couple tiki guys and other Hawaiian-y decor but that's just on top of what was there it seems. The space didn't feel super welcoming and the service was "meh." We ended up stopping in The Dalles for lunch on our way to Depoe Bay. We stopped at LILO's Hawaiian Barbecue and it's legit great food! I ordered the Huli-Huli chicken with Mac salad and yakisoba noodles and my husband got the Kalua pork with rice and Mac salad, then he ordered the mud pie and POG to drink. The chicken was juicy, tender, and flavorful. The noodles were good as was the Mac salad. My husband's pork was so tasty! I'm not sure which one I liked more! The POG was a fresh mix, not out of a can, and I could easily drink a gallon of it. Mud pie came out frozen so we could only eat a bite or two, but those bites were promising. We'll wait for it to thaw a bit before we eat it. I absolutely recommend stopping here and giving it a try! read more

Found this place on Yelp and gave it a try. It's a small piece of Hawaii in downtown The Dalles. The interior looks like an old Mexican restaurant that somebody added tiki's, surf boards and other Hawaiian trinkets. Add some Hawaiian music and it works. I went for lunch and tried the kalua pork plate. Comes with rice and macaroni salad just like on the Islands. My simple summary is that it did not taste like I remembered. Reminded me more of just bbq pork as it had a sauce on it. Still good but definitely was cooked in a put out back for hours on end (obviously). People on the Islands say to use liquid smoke and this did not seem like it was. Service was good and atmosphere was pleasant. The food was tasty but not exactly what I expected. We love Hawaiian bbq but this place was mediocre. My daughter ordered the chicken yakisoba and it was just ok. I ordered the same but in shrimp and it was the same. My husband ordered the captains platter and it was very expensive I think $22 or something close to that and he said it was ok but the portions were very small. read more

We've been to Hawaii the last four years. My wife's family is from the Big Island. I have to say I was pleasurably surprised with Lilo's Hawaiian BBQ. First of all I loved their mac salad. It was on point. I liked it better than say the mac salad at Rainbow Drive-In in Honolulu. Their kalua pork tasted good with their hot sauce. Their beef was also excellent. It was a little less enamored with their huli chicken but it wasn't bad. The rice wasn't mushy, it was perfect. To top it off the people working were super nice. LOVED seeing the outdoor smoker by the front door. Would absolutely recommend the kalua pig plate! Subbed coleslaw for the Mac salad to make gluten-free... it was the only coleslaw I've ever actually liked (not usually a fan, but will pretty much eat anything in front of me). This is the farthest from Authenticity I've ever experienced. The food wasn't horrific, but it wasn't great either! If anything, it was edible. As an Islander (and "food critic"/foodie), when it comes to this type of food.. there are great and high expectations! And LILO's in no way at all exemplified it. Those who've given this place 5 stars (let alone more than One), either have no idea what they're talking about or have no sense of palate. This is not belittling anyone there, I'm sure they're good people.. this is just an honest review. Is it good? Looks like it probably could be, but I'll likely never know. They were closed during regular hours on a regular (early) evening. Just had a sign on the door that said they were quitting early that day and the next.
