I popped in for a few treats and ended up leaving with the cutest San Antonio Spurs-themed cookies--they almost looked too good to eat. Almost. I've been going to Lily's for years and they make really good cookies (I highly recommend the Ranger, Ice Lemon and Texas Honey) and decent lemon bars (a little dry IMO) and cupcakes. That being said, the price is ridiculous for the size of the cookies and they've seemingly gotten smaller over the years. Last time I came here it was about $22 for a dozen cookies, some cupcakes and a lemon bar. Out of that cost, the cookies were $10/dozen, lemon bar $3.75/ea and cupcakes were $4/ea. Also "promotions" don't seem to be universally known. On this specific visit, they gave me a 13th cookie free (baker's dozen) but other times this is not the case. Compare that to the other bakery I venture to downtown - they don't do cookies or lemon bars but their cupcakes are $3.25/ea or $1.50/ea for day old. They're also larger in size. read more

In San Antonio, I can't think of a cookie bakery more revered and celebrated than Lily's. Having been around the last several decades, they've sustained a loyal fan following and they deserve alt the kudos for keeping the cookie game on high standards. in the morning, there is an aroma permeating the room from all the fresh cookies and pastries being baked. The smell is intoxicating (#1) and it actually makes me want to purchase more cookies as a result. There is no seating, apart from a tiny table outside. Takeout is the name of the game here. Peruse the display case for the fresh selection and pay special attention to the seasonal items as it changes often. I've seen the latter for Halloween + Fall themed cookies and they were outstanding. I haven't walked out with a cookie that didn't impress me just yet. They also serve brownies, chess squares, and even doggy treats. The oatmeal cream pies are straight up sinful with how good they are. There are also cupcakes and custom designs for special occasions. Any one of their assorted selection boxes / bags make for stellar gifts. Lastly, the service has always been kind and patience with me. The young ladies that work behind the counter are always transparent with their recommendations and are amiable. There is dedicated parking available in the lot next door. I arrived to Lily's cookies around 3:30PM on a Tuesday and was surprised to see how crowded it was - a good sign for my first time visiting! I was luckily able to secure a spot in the parking lot as there was only one left at the time. There were a few families in front of me in the line (and some behind me in the line as well), but it the women behind the counter worked quickly and it didn't take much time until I was helped! I really appreciated how friendly the staff was and how much they hustled to get everyone helped. After trying samples of Lily's cookies, I knew I'd found the perfect place for a custom order to celebrate my aunt's 65th birthday. I ordered 2 dozen, 1 dozen were margaritas with happy birthday written on them and sombreros with a 65. Cookies were a big hit at the party! Not only were the cookies beautiful to look at but also very delicious. Not overtly sweet, but definitely delicious! Very happy with how they turned out. Only caveat is that they are pricey and custom orders require a 2 dozen minimum. The front counter girl who took my order wasn't too well versed with pricing and details so she kept having to go back and forth to ask someone else my questions. I called Lilly's cookies on a Friday afternoon about an event for the following Thursday. I ordered dozens of cookies plus 2 party platters plus 4 dozen custom-made cookies with my company logo. (Picture attached). The staff I spoke with were friendly and helpful at every level. They delivered all the cookies to my office on time. Each one was perfect and delicious. I was tired of the huge, half-baked cookies other popular places make which are too big to eat a whole one. These were the perfect size and just like mom used to make, only prettier. They did make one tiny mistake in that I requested red sugar around the rim of the custom logo cookies, but they used white sugar instead. If they ran out of red sugar, I wish they had called and told me, but I would have said that's fine. They were still beautiful and no one knew the difference except me. Stopped by Lily's Cookies and sampled many different cookies and bars! I've tried the chocolate chip cookies, a raspberry crumble bar, a lavender shortbread cookie, a deliciously moist chocolate cookie, a yummy brownie with nuts, a sugar cookie with yellow sugar as well as a beautifully decorated sugar cookie in the shape of a flower. The chocolate chip cookie is to die for!! Soft but not in a bad way with so much flavor and melty chocolate chips. So good!! My favorite has been the crumble bar. It's sweet and delicious! The employees are helpful and kind. This woman-owned business was kicking butt when we stopped by! Lots of awesome women working hard to provide amazing treats for us! Great prices! This bakery shop has all the transparency it can be. Once you enter the store it will welcome you with cookie maker/designer. You can see how they do all the ones they are selling and it's pretty cool, never seen one like this. The service was really awesome and fast. The menu was there and making sure you can see everything what they offer. We had an additional order of raspberry brownie and cream pie. It was so good - cream pie used a carrot cake, it was soft, chewy and crisp, the way how they played with texture was really an added factor. (Not a baker but really trying to figure out how I can explain the goodness ). While the raspberry brownie was a nostalgia for me, I had something similar when I was in Highschool and I can't see any of it here, like a chewy oatmeal bar with caramel and chocolates the raspberry brownie was the closest and I enjoyed every bite of it. My partner and I will start to taste all the samplers. The place was really cute. The only they don't do dine ins (no chairs) so only take out. While they have spacious parking. Cute little neighborhood shop that has yummy cookies, bars, cupcakes that are both regular some that are gluten-free/vegan. The display cases show massive bars and cookies as well as regular sized cookies. The decorative cookies are festive looking and everything looks yummy! There's a refrigerated case for soft drinks, milk that I think is for the coffee bar in the next counter and there's a coffee dispenser and coffee beans for sale. There's even dog treats in a separate container. You could see the cookie decorators/bakers decorating and preparing cookies on tables behind the counter. I saw about 3 women working. It's nice, cheerful and an open space for them to work their magic! The ceiling has these white decorative doilies like decorations hanging down which I saw when I entered. There are spots for 15-minute parking for patrons in the lot. It seemed like business picked up after I picked up my batch of sample cookies/bars. One woman had 2 pink cellophane-wrapped boxes, perhaps for a party. There are a couple of metal tables & chairs if you'd like to sit outside but it's a pretty busy street. About the sample bars/cookies: I tried the Red Velvet dome-shaped dessert that tasted a little like shortbread but with some chocolate and kinda airy too? I also had a cookie that tasted like it had nuts, coconut, brown-butter. It looked like it was a pecan bar on top, so maybe it was another flavor? The other chocolate covered bar tasted like a homemade Snicker bar!! Very delicious! There is a definite homemade flavor to the desserts which is rare to find. I was part of a Yelp Elite event and went by Lily's Cookies today to try some treats. I live really close but never knew about this place till now. Cute little shop, walked in and was greeted immediately. They checked me in an got me a goody box, I saw they had Mexican Wedding cookies, which I live so I might have bought a few lol. And they had dog biscuits!! So of course I had to buy some for my baby. The girl in the shop told me what was in my goody box, but I don't remember, I'll match them up with the website. I devored my wedding cookies, no pic to show and they were delicious. I tried a couple more treats from my box, and everything is so fresh and tasty. Oh and what a generous goody box! I was fortunate enough to go to a few Yelp events and some local Yelpers mentioned a perk they had from Lily's Cookies and how good they were. Based on their word I decided to try Lily's on my way out. I pulled into the lot before they opened but they let me in a couple minutes early. They have a huge variety-different shapes, sizes and types. I took advantage of the extra time to just look around and take pictures. It felt like being in someone's home well, if someone had a bunch of cookies in their home. I went with a dozen of their homestyle cookies, they rotate flavors but the Ranger, Texas Honey, Iced Lemon and the Chocolate Mexican Wedding Cookies and Rosemary Shortbread were good enough to get repeats of. Lily's cookies by far has some of the most beautiful, and delicious cookies in the city. I've had Lily's cookies before and party's and events, but of course I didn't want to look like the greedy glutton in the room and stuff them in my purse and sit in a corner eating them all. (As tempting as it was.) But here I stand about 4 years later getting my own box of assorted cookies to binge one. Sugar Cookie: They are always so beautiful! They have a light crisp on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside, not crumbly, won't fall apart. They are not too sweet, not event the frosting, just right with an ever so slight hint of lemon flavor? I love eating mine with orange juice over milk. I can't explain it, you just have to trust me and try it. Mexican Wedding Cookie: This was the best wedding cookie I've ever had. Usually you take one bite and they explode into powder and choke you. These did not. Great texture and flavor. I would've loved to dunk it in some cafecito. Poppyseed thumbprints: I tried these in both flavors, apricot and raspberry. They meet the standard of what a thumbprint should be. I've tried these from various bakeries and as long as you follow the recipe, they will be fine. Good balance of sweetness, that's huge to me, too much sweet kills the ability to single out the other flavors. Nice and chewy. Texas Honey: Okay, this cookie was ridiculous! I brought one home for 4 people to share and that was not a good idea. The Texas Honey is flipping amazing. I'll be heading back to grab some for Thanksgiving (or not . . . That means we'd have to share. I could probably eat a dozen all by myself.) Almond Toffee Crunch: This one was okay, not bad, not great, just a good cookie. It had crunch but I didn't get enough toffee flavor, but it was good. Raspberry Bar: Now, if you care about image and esthetic, this bar won't grab your attention. But that flavor was spot on perfect! They are not stingy with the raspberry at all! This bar is hearty, earthy and sweet, again not over-the-top sweet but just right. Moist, this bar just made me happy. It was excellent. The density of it would be great to pair with black coffee, and maybe eat half now, half later. This one will definitely be a repeat for me. Special Bar: The special bar was a pumpkin cream cheese bar, and again . . . Lily's has got baking down to a science. My family and I destroyed this bar! It was so good! Things like this are dangerous, I could probably eat one a week and see nothing wrong with it. Overall service: Lily's is in a very cute corner of town. Cute little lobby with lots of energy. Great customer service from the minute you walk in, simple set up to see everything available and they are happy to answer your questions and make recommendations. You even get to see everyone decorating the cookies! Reasonably priced, I've heard people complain about their prices but in my opinion, you get what you pay for and these are worth every dime! I cannot believe I have never seen this before. I first came here with a Yelp event and had to come back! This place is so cute to go to on the way to the zoo or even on the way home!
