The food is always good here. The only reason I gave 4 starts instead of 5 was that I specifically asked the waitress if their sausage gravy was from scratch or a mix or canned. She said it was from scratch. It clearly was not. It was canned or a dry mix, just from the texture and slightly sweet taste. Homemade sausage gravy is a must when its the star of the show. I had fried chicken and biscuits, which was covered in the gravy. The biscuits are great, those are from scratch. The fried chicken was tasty and crispy. Overall we will definitely be back. But not for anything covered in the sausage gravy. read more

My wife and I sat at a table for more than 20 min with no menu wondering why we were being ignored. The waitress sat another couple who arrived 15 min after us and took their order before finally coming over to our table. When I told her we had been waiting and commented on her service, she actually smirked at me. I told her we would take my business elsewhere and walked out. We have come here twice in as many days. In love with the food here. Being from the San Francisco area, we are used to great quality food. We were pleasantly surprised by the awesome food here in Mount Shasta. Day1- appetizers: We got the beet salad and the burrata spread. Both were nice. Entrees: the veggie paella was to die for. The veggies were exotic! We got the veggie pasta - changed the sauce to the creamy garlic sage sauce and it was awesome. Day 2- Entrees: the veggie paella again. The veggies weren't the exotic kind as yesterday, but not that it was any less good. We tried the trout this time. Wow.. What flavors! Loved it. Dessert: this time we tried the peach cobbler. Cute decor. My husband and I wanted to share a stack of pancakes. The waitress looked at us like we were crazy. The butter for the pancakes was super hard. By the time I got it to melt the pancake was cold. Hardly any flavor to them even with syrup. Then we were charged for 2 cups of coffee. I don't drink coffee! She did adjust the bill. So glad this place re-opened. We stop here a couple times a year heading to and from Oregon. Yes, prices went up some, but it has pretty much everywhere. I ordered the roasted beet salad with slivered pear and blue cheese crumbles and added chicken to it. My friends had the Ham Eggs Benedict with potatoes. The food was excellent. Stopped here just last weekend for dinner and was really impressed... not so much with the decor but still, the place has a nice quaint homey atmosphere. Our entrees were great... my salmon was so fresh and well cooked, among the best. Clearly caught nearby very recently (as they claimed). She got a burger and it was really good too. King crab legs?!!! Amazing. Roasted tomatoes with garlic, well... not the best, but pretty good. The place was really busy and some people complained but we were ok with it. It was packed and seemed only 2 servers. If you're in a rush, might not be for you on a busy night. We relaxed and took our time. Our server was clearly running around like a lunatic and occasionally forgot a few things, but was calm and happy as ever every time she approached our table (that's talent). Will come back for sure. Living in Mt. Shasta, we have eaten several times here, but our last lunch experience makes us question how many more times we will do so. The reason for two stars is that normally the food is very good, otherwise it would have been one. The service was extremely slow. We had to wait for more than 45 min. to get our food. Once it came my wife's fries were cold and my sandwich was supposed to be served on a Brioche came on regular sour dough bread. The wait was explained that they had some large party to serve. Well, that should have been mentioned before we ordered and after all the other things at least part of the meal should have been comp'd. In the down home, friendly city of Shasta, why not embrace that instead of attempting to be upscale? Lily's tries to be fancy by promoting some premium ingredients, but they are stingy with those ingredients. A couple nights before, we had eaten at a Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco. We figured nothing in Shasta would compare. Taking the safe route to avoid getting a pricey yet lackluster entrée, my girlfriend ordered fries and a sandwich for dinner. Like a diner that knows how to maximize the deep fryer, the fries were the best thing we ate, but also provided the first example of trying to be fancy. The nicely fried fries were called "triple truffle fries" because they had truffle oil, truffle salt and truffle aioli. I wouldn't expect them to use real truffles, but I couldn't smell or taste any truffle oil on the fries. The same was true with the truffle aioli. I could taste truffle in the salt, but it was pretentiously placed on the side. The Cuban sandwich had the correct components of pork, ham, pickles, mustard, and cheese along with being lightly pressed. Granted this is a nit-picky point, the menu said "authentic Cuban bread" that was really some cheap French sandwich roll - not airy Cuban bread that easily flattens. Chorizo was the fancy element and at least I could taste it even though it didn't help the sandwich because it took away from two key elements of a true Cuban - the bite of the mustard that is augmented by the bitter acid of the pickle. The side salad was barely dressed. I too tried to order conservatively with a salad and pasta. The salad featured bleu cheese from Rogue Creamery in Oregon which was the fancy ingredient. Again, there was also barely any cheese in the salad. The salad had too few walnuts and barely any dressing. I added the aioli from the fries to flavor the virtually bare romaine. "Lily's chicken pasta" wasn't fancy, but was another example of skimping on the key ingredient. With four large chunks of breast that probably weighed a total of two ounces, the pasta had too little chicken. The pasta came with snap peas that were almost gray like canned green beans, "roasted red peppers" that tasted fine but technically weren't roasted, and overcooked spinach fettuccini. I gave a local reisling from Alpen Cellars a try which didn't give me much confidence for wines made in Trinity County. A red blend from Kismet from California's North Coast was average. read more

We loved Lily's! We stopped in for breakfast not expecting much from the sleepy town. We were greeted with a warm welcome from the owner. I ordered the crepes with yogurt, fresh fruit and granola. It was wonderful!!!! On this day they had bananas, blueberries, and strawberries. My boyfriend got the pancakes which were huge! Stacked three high they were big and fluffy. Almost to pretty to eat. Went for breakfast 9/16. The place is really stark! Outside seemed nice but it was a bit chilly for us. Service was very slow, yes it could be because they are short on employees but there were only 3 tables when we got there. Im a server so i do understand how a restaurant flows etc. Food prices are high and we are use to higher priced restaurants. Charged $4 for strawberrys on my partners waffle for 1 strawberry! Waffle was ok. He also ordered a sausage patty that was ok. I had the mongolian chicken salad, flavor was good, but chicken was really fatty and not a lot of it since i ordered the large salad i expected more than a pile of cabbage w dressing and not a lot of chicken. Dear Lily's owner, My husband and I ate at your restaurant this evening. I had the salmon and he had the steak chimichurri, and both were excellent. We also had the truffle fries which were delicious. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable about gluten-free options on the menu, which was very helpful. We enjoyed our meal up until the very end, when the young man who was busing the table next to us used a spray solution with bleach in it to clean the table cloth. The bleach was very strong, and it made my eyes burn. I was also appalled at the fact that you don't change tablecloths between customers, but instead spot clean the white tablecloths with bleach. I have never been to a restaurant before where they don't change the tablecloths between customers. To be honest, it really ruined an otherwise excellent meal for us. And it makes you look cheap, which you really shouldn't be because your prices are a little high. read more

As it ended up, we were camping at Lake Siskiyou on our 19th Wedding Anniversary last month. We were able to enjoy a delicious "anniversary worthy" dinner here and got great service despite being in our dirty camping shorts and tees! We started with the grilled artichoke - great. My husband had the Ribeye w/ mushrooms and said it was pretty good. I had the skirt steak chimichurri and it was delicious. The Bananas Foster was just OK. Bananas seemed just warmed, not caramelized. The sauce was good but it was topped with peanuts, which seemed weird. Over all, an unexpectedly great place in a little town. We enjoyed it. read more

The poutine and BBQ tako are great appetizers, with the former filling your appetite while indulging your desire for a mix of French fries and gravy (decent amounts of chicken surprisingly) and the latter is where you get to try a true delicacy, even though only two tentacles are served. The way they cooked the octopus made it not rubbery or too soft. The trout was pretty good too, even though I'm not a fan of that type of fish in general. I had the organic vegetable omelette but substituted my toast for a pancake and requested it as a scramble instead. The potatoes that came with it were perfect. The omelette fresh and tasty. We live in So Cal and often drive up north to vacation in Oregon. We make Lily's a regular stop, usually for breakfast. The ambiance is shabby-chic -ish and the food is good. My only complaint about the food is that both of the mimosas I ordered came with very tired strawberries -- two years in a row. So I'm thinking they might want to rethink the garnish. But that is very minor. This year, the new chef added some Hawaiian-inspired brunch items. My husband tried one and seemed to enjoy it but later said he wouldn't order it again because it was very onion-heavy. Even still, we will definitely go back next time we are in the area.
