food - ordered the milanese without cheese and balsamic vinegar. paid at the counter and sandwich was made fairly quickly! it felt like less than 5 minutes. sandwich came with LOTS of meat, they are not stingy! I don't think my bread was toasted but I wish it was by default (or maybe my fault for not mentioning it). Overall quality of meats were really good and flavorful. I think the ratio was a bit off for me because it had too much meat. sandwich is HUGE though it's definitely two meals for me Service - super quick and easy. paid at counter and it was so quick. ambiance - cute grocery shop with deli.
My boyfriend and I had been craving a good sandwich and this definitely hit the spot! He ordered a meatball sub and I ordered The Speciale. First, these sandwiches are pretty big, so definitely come hungry. The bread was thick and soft, and I really liked my particular combination of meat, fresh mozzarella and briny olive / pepperoncini combination; the toppings felt proportional and the sandwich held together well (things weren't falling out and the bread didn't get soggy). I thought the prices were reasonable for what we got. Lastly, we really enjoyed sitting outside on the sidewalk. However, I'd definitely come back again to grab sandwiches to-go before heading to a nearby park or something!
3.5 stars Ah. The satisfaction of a great sandwich. Your choice of protein, mixed greens, a slather of mustard, hint of vinegar. Some crunchy banana peppers. Tomatoes. My grilled chicken breast hinted of a lemon peels and garlic. In a Dutch crunch was pretty good. I finish my sandwich because I was very hungry. I still can't believe the $18 price tag... My friend and I called for to go order. Their porchetta sandwich is also good! I do love what this little deli is trying to offer when its specialty items some of it are hard to find. I've spied my fave gourmet Potato chip brand here (hello Torres!) and I like that. For the hefty price tag, I was expecting a more stuffed Sammy.
Was exploring Union Square area when I found this cute, not-so-little Italian Deli-Mart I had 2 hours to kill before my dinner so dived in for a quick bite here. The menu had good selection of s'wiches, Pastas (pre-made) and some Salad. I went for their no.17 (Grilled Chicken sandwich). Came out fairly quick and was good though I wish it had a bit more flavor to it. It's a nice establishment of Italian food products - perfect if you're craving Italian & want to grab a quick meal.
I saw that people claimed that Limoncello were serving up the best sandwiches in SF. I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, so I had to give it a try while I was up in the area. The shop is pretty cute. Has a nice Italian deli vibe to it. Cured meats and stuff hanging and all that good stuff. I have to admit, the menu was a bit overwhelming, and some of the sandwiches seemed very similar in description. So, it was a bit of a challenge narrowing down what I wanted. That said, the sandwiches I tried ended up being quite good. The best I've ever eaten? Probably not, but the best I've had in SF? Quite possibly, yes. One downside was that they don't have sourdough bread as a sandwich roll option. Kind of a disappointment for a sandwich shop in the bay. Still, I'd definitely go out of my way to have it again. Highly recommend.
Came here to grab a quick lunch to go and ended up really liking this spot. The space has small grocery section and a deli counter. Definitely the kind of place locals stop by regularly rather than a one time visit. I got the caprese sandwich but made it spicy. The bread was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. All the ingredients tasted fresh, and the spice added a ton without overwhelming the classic caprese flavors. Because it's part grocery store, the drink selection is way better than your typical place. The staff was also super friendly, they even gave my dog some meat! There's minimaI seating here, but I can easily see myself coming back here often for a quick to go meal.
Somewhat disappointed with the food here given the expectations/reviews. We got the Veneziano on Dutch crunch. I can tell the ingredients were fresh, but it wasn't anything special. I'm not sure what the hype is/was. If I wasn't in the area, I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to try it. Service was ok. It was kind of slow. It's located in an upscale deli/liquor/grocery store.
I'm a sucker for sandwiches, but Limoncello is more of a 3.5-star spot for me now. I used to love it, but lately it just hasn't been hitting the same. I'm not sure if it's the flavor or what, but it's no longer my go-to sandwich shop. I ordered my usual Cuban, and the balsamic vinegar and mustard were a bit overpowering. The portions are definitely generous (as they should be for a ~$20 sandwich), but it's disappointing that it doesn't come toasted.
There are two doors to this shop: the door on the hill leads to the deli where you can order meats, sandwiches, and premade food. The bottom door leads to their dry goods area with olive oils, pastas, sauces, beverages, etc. I came in for a sandwich since I heard great things about it. I got the Milanese Sandwich. The pastrami was good and the havarti cheese was good. I wish it had more pesto spread. I ate it at one of the bar like seating in the shop. There are also chairs and tables outside.
Everything was perfect! Service was fast and friendly, the store is clean, and my sandwich was filled with vibrant fresh veggies. It is the only place I have found a sandwich with eggplant, artichoke, and mushroom. The one change I would make, is to add cheese. It was delicious and I cant wait for another! Update: I went back for another and while it was still amazing, they left off the artichoke and I didn't realize until it was too late. . Hopefully it was a fluke.
Somewhat of a hidden gem for the deli's in SF. When I searched up "best deli's in San Francisco" this place barely even came up. I had the tuna salad sandwich and it was phenomenal. The service inside was great, especially being combined with a mini grocery store. Overall would definitely recommend if you're in the mood for an authentic deli sandwich.
One of the best top (definitely top 3) vegetarian sandwiches in the Bay Area/California. My partner had the Goodfella Sandwich with Roast Beef, Prosciutto, Salami, Provolone Cheese with Organic Mixed Greens, Tomato, Basil, Pepperoncini, Black Pepper, Olive Oil& Balsamic Vinegar. I always get the Veggie on ciabatta with extra roasted bell peppers, add havarti & cheddar, no mixed greens with balsamic vinegrette on the side. The latter two modifications are because the sandwiches are HUGE and I can only eat half at a time so this helps to keep the Veggie from getting soggy. Highly recommend this store with the Sutter location being the best imo.
I've yet to come across a deli that doesn't charge $9,000 for a small side of pasta salad so this place didn't disappoint. (Its $6 but its tiny and it's literally just noodles/sauce.) I got the sicilliano sandwich and it was fucking delicious. no other notes. just a really good fucking sandwich. Ok bye read more
I came here to get a cannoli, but I saw their sandwich menu and had to try one of them. I'm so glad I did! I ordered their veggie sandwich and it was one of the best veggie sandwiches I've ever had. The dutch crunch bread was really fresh and the sandwich was loaded with yummy veggies. I really liked the pesto that was on the sandwich. Their cannolis are also very good. Super fresh and crunchy! The workers here are very nice. It is a small Italian grocery store, so most of the seating is all outside. I definitely recommend going here for some Italian desserts and sandwiches! read more

I pass by this place pretty often and decided to give it a try. Definitely glad I did! I asked the cashier what their most popular items were and he suggested I try the Mafioso. The taste of the oil and vinegar was great with the meats of the sandwich. The soft bread was also a nice contrast to the crunchiness of the bacon. My only thing to note is that adding prices in the drink section would be nice given some of them are a bit pricey. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of their other items read more
Limoncello is the real deal. The ambiance features old school decorations, such as hanging fruit and salami, but has an overall new school appearance. Dine in is available both inside and out. My wife and I ordered the Milanese and Siciliano sandwiches. I definitely preferred the Milanese over the Siciliano, mainly because it had more contents in it. This is definitely somewhere I'd come back to. read more
If you are looking to have a delicious sandwich in SF, come here. I ordered the Milanese which has pastrami, havarti cheese, pesto, lettuce, banana peppers and bell peppers in a sourdough bread. The portions are HUGE and can definitely be shared between two people. They use beef pastrami in the Milanese, I double checked since I don't eat pork. Theres a lot of space in the restaurant/convenience store to eat indoors but I took my sandwich to go near the park. This place doesn't have so many 5 star ratings for nothing, it's a must try in the city! read more
Top 5 Sandwich Shop in SF! Three screens of menu options! Super friendly staff at Limoncello. Overall, 4/5 stars for a great spot to grab a large sandwich. Personally, would have loved to have the bread warmed & crunchier. Not as much sliced meat as desired. The tiramisu they do not make onsite, they order it from a spot in East Bay. Super authentic taste but not our fav. in the city. If you're never drank a limoncello, buy a bottle, throw it in the freezer and enjoy as a digestive. A place with over 1000 reviews and 5 stars?!?! I knew I had to give this place a try. I finally found a time to make the trip all the way to SF just for this sandwich, so I had some very high expectations. I was able to order ahead online, so it was ready for pickup when I arrived. The inside is half sandwich shop half market, and they sell a lot of cool item! I got the mafioso sandwich and added the spicy spread upon reading many reviews. The sandwich was pack full of meat and veggies, all on a nice dutch crunch loaf. I will say, this was a veryyy good sandwich but there were a few things that just made it not worth 5 stars imo. The first was that the bread itself was actually a little stiff and didn't taste super fresh, so it was a little hard to chew. Additionally, the sandwich was $20 after everything which I really think is just a little ridiculous. The balance of flavors in the sandwich was wonderful, however, and I did enjoy it a lot. This is definitely worth a try, though I don't know if I can justify the price to come back. Delicious sandwich though! read more
I came here with some friends to pick up sandwiches before heading over to Dolores Park. It's a cute place inside, pretty spacious as well so you have some space to sit down. I got the Speciale Sandwich and it was sooooo tasty. It reminded me of the sandwiches in Europe that were simple but were packed with the flavor. Definitely get it spicy! The owner Jalal was so incredibly kind/hospitable and even gave us a few things to sample. He was so helpful. We got it with the natural original cola in the fridge called MoleCola which I absolutely loved as well!!! There's some kind of peppers in the case that are stuffed with cheese and prosciutto. You neeeeed to get them. They had crunch, spice, sweetness & savory. It was a perfect balance! Just order them. I wish I lived near this place because I'd go here every week. read more

Decided to stop by for their great sections for sandwiches in the bay and there's a little supermarket inside it. They serve sandwiches, pizza, coffee, pastries. We got the Milanese Sandwich with Dutch crunch bread because of the basil pesto. You could taste how fresh the ingredients were when you take a bite of the sandwich. The pesto wasn't overbearing but left a great aftertaste. They also have Italian dessert and had to get their cannoli! The cream inside was amazing and the shell wasn't too hard. They have high top seating with Tv and a view looking over the market. It's a vibe! read more

We were going to the Warriors Watch Party at Chase Center and needed a quick grab-and-go meal. Limoncello is the perfect choice if you're looking for some good food on the go. I might be in the minority for this, but I don't like huge, overstuffed sandwiches. Lots of the sandwiches these days are messy and hard to eat- I'm talking you take a bite, and everything squeezes out. Honestly, one of the highlights about a Limoncello sandwich is how easy it is to eat. The ingredients are perfectly balanced, and even when I got to the last bite, there was still a little of everything left. I feel like other sandwich shops douse their sandwiches in sauce and call it a day. Where Limoncello shines is the ingredients- everything tastes so fresh and clean! On that note though, if you're a sauce person, you might find their sandwiches a little plain (my fiance wanted more spread!). The Mafioso on dutch crunch with spicy spread was our fave! The dutch crunch was perfectly toasted and the spicy spread added an extra oomph (worth the extra $1). read more

Came back the 2nd time and with my husband and kids this time for our "picnic" lunch. Porchetta - my order for the 2nd time around; didn't disappoint! My regular order for a reason BLT - on a sourdough (hubby's) BLT - on ciabatta (14yo son) Both BLTs were great, both inhaled their sandwiches 4 cheese pizza - 6yo daughter All 4 of us enjoyed sharing the pizza with our daughter. I would order this again! We also grabbed their fresh watermelon in a container and also a few drinks. Definitely loved the Italian brand of sparkling juice (?). I had the blood orange flavor and it was a perfect drink to go with my porchetta sandwich. Place was definitely always clean and fully stocked. There were more people in line this time, but we were also there right around lunch time. Wait time wasn't bad considering the time and the number of our orders. Definitely have to be patient with parking though since it's only side street parking. read more
This small but mighty specialty market has me always finding that hard to find italian import item. I rarely come out without discovering some childhood memory. The team are fast and friendly. The take out is always great for lunch or those "Honey I'll handle dinner tonight" nights. A great adult beverage selection, cured meats, marinated delicacies and sweet treats as well as well stocked and curated italian themed staples. The cannoli's are great and on full display but they also sell the shells for those that want to stuff your own. Bright and airy the two-level space allows for easy shopping and chatting. read more

Went here for lunch today.... Very tasty sandwiches! The bread was super fresh and everything in between the bread was of high quality. They also hollow out the bread, so the ratios are very good between bread, meats, veggies, and condiments. We also tried their domadas (spelling-???) and their meatballs, also very tasty! The cannoli's are made in house, all other desserts are from an outside vendor. Even though we were stuffed, we had no problems polishing off the cannoli! In addition to the deli and dessert sections, you'll also find a mini Italian Market, we walked from our hotel, so didn't get anything, but next time we plan to try some of their olive oils and other items. **4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars** Super cute deli with a grocery store inside! It's fun to browse around and they have some pretty unique drinks, desserts, ingredients, etc. I got the Milanese Sandwich ($14.95), which had such fresh ingredients that paired well with the pesto. My sister made a fair comment that the sandwiches here are very bite-able. You never accidentally pull any large pieces of ingredients out when you take a bite since they just slice so well. I also had some of the Toscano Sandwich ($14.95), which was also delicious. These sandwiches are also HUGE, you can easily save half for another meal. I would definitely come back, but next time, I would add on their homemade Calabrian pepper spread for more spice! read more

Very fancy deli/market. They even have chandeliers on the ceiling and TVs all around. They do have lots of imported Italian goods as well as meats. The sandwich itself was just OK for me. The bread, lettuce, cured meats all tasted fresh. However, I wasn't a fan of the flavor and didn't like how it was cold. There's bar seating inside, but no tables. I've had this place bookmarked for a while now. It's not often you see a sandwich place with such good reviews as this place. For my first time I got the goodfella sandwich with spicy spread as it seems to be the most popular option here. First of all, they PACK the sandwich with meat. This thing is huge and a good price for what it is. We forgot to add the spicy spread hand asked for it when they were making it. Good thing we did because the sandwich is overall pretty dry. Having spread really helped moisten the bread. The Sandwich itself is really good with lots of flavor but I think I prefer hot sandwiches more. If you want a good cold sandwich this place is definitely one of the best with the amount of meat that is given and the flavors that are packed in. I would definitely love to come back to try their other sandwiches as well. read more

This is one of the best Italian delis in SF. Molinari might still be my favorite, but this will more than satisfy anyone looking for a tasty, filling sandwich with fresh ingredients. I had a DoorDash going out deal for a $7 sandwich here, and I called ahead to order their Milanese sandwich (pastrami) on ciabatta. I was quoted about a 10 minute wait time, and after biking there and waiting in line for a few minutes, my sandwich was already prepared for pickup. I could tell the bread was freshly made, and I also appreciate that the bread to filling ratio was on-point. The ingredients were all fresh and of high quality. I might have preferred slightly more sauce on the sandwich, but I tend to lean heavier on sauces/condiments. Most of the sandwiches were priced in the $15-$17 range, which is slightly on the pricier side but on par with other high quality sandwich places in SF. read more

I was in SF and craving a sandwich. This place was just what I needed. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but you truly get enough sandwich for two meals. The space is clean and well-organized. Service was quick! I ordered the Porchetta Sandwich and it completed in just enough time for me to make a circle in the store to see what else they have available. If you love Italian delis, this is the place. I was in need of some dinner and found this. I ordered a salad for my mom and a sandwich for myself. I also got some desserts for us to try. Everything was fresh and delicious. Portions are generous. My sandwich was so big that I ended up saving half for later. There isn't really a sit down area. By the deli there is a counter top but it seemed like most folks were taking their food and heading out. It's a quick service style place. You order at the register and then they will call out your order when it's done. The vibe is cute inside though. Packed to the brim with Italian goods. Worth it if you're in the SF area. read more
Delicious sandwiches and so many options! It is my go to place for a quick to go lunch during work. I haven't tried all the options yet but the two sandwiches I have tried have been awesome! I had gotten the speciale and the mafioso. The service is pretty quick and I love seeing all the different desserts, chips, drinks lining the walls and shelves while I wait. Aesthetic Italian store, huge sandwiches, slow service I called ahead to order my sandwich bc I had read reviews on how slow the service can be, and I still waited a while to pick up my food - they had lost the order ticket. The workers are relatively nice though The store itself is really aesthetic and cute. The price of their items does air on the more expensive side, but it seems like the quality would be worth it. The sandwiches are about $16, but definitely can count for 2 meals. They don't skimp on ingredients and everything tastes fresh. The Ruben sandwich is really tasty, filled with just the right ratio of meat, cheese, and veggies. I'll definitely be back to try other things on their menu read more

I came here with a group of friends for lunch! Food came out very quickly. I ordered the veggie sandwich and it was delicious. I wish there had a been a bit more sauce but overall quite good. My friends ordered the Cuban and also the Goodfella. They sandwiches were massive and everyone was really satisfied. I feel like it's rare to find a restaurant/deli with 5 stars but Limoncello did not disappoint! read more
