my friends and I stopped by for sandwiches at limoncello after seeing all the rave about it online. there were so many options and we were also excited to see the deli was actually part of a larger italian grocery store and grabbed some italian sodas too! we were a bit disappointed by the sandwiches themselves- for $18, we felt that the proportions were a bit off. it still tasted great and ingredients were high quality, but there was a monstrous amount of meat and lettuce so it was hard to get any of the other flavors. the portions were huge though, which is a plus. overall, the store was very cute, clean, and seemed like it stocked authentic italian ingredients. the service was pretty quick since we just ordered at the counter, and they are all very friendly.
The sandwich filling was tasty. Was a good blend of salty and spicy. I was given a choice and chose the Dutch bread but it was very stale. Other than that, it was a decent sandwich. The service was fast, considering there were about 6 people ahead of us. They had three people working efficiently.
3.5 stars Ah. The satisfaction of a great sandwich. Your choice of protein, mixed greens, a slather of mustard, hint of vinegar. Some crunchy banana peppers. Tomatoes. My grilled chicken breast hinted of a lemon peels and garlic. In a Dutch crunch was pretty good. I finish my sandwich because I was very hungry. I still can't believe the $18 price tag... My friend and I called for to go order. Their porchetta sandwich is also good! I do love what this little deli is trying to offer when its specialty items some of it are hard to find. I've spied my fave gourmet Potato chip brand here (hello Torres!) and I like that. For the hefty price tag, I was expecting a more stuffed Sammy.
Was exploring Union Square area when I found this cute, not-so-little Italian Deli-Mart I had 2 hours to kill before my dinner so dived in for a quick bite here. The menu had good selection of s'wiches, Pastas (pre-made) and some Salad. I went for their no.17 (Grilled Chicken sandwich). Came out fairly quick and was good though I wish it had a bit more flavor to it. It's a nice establishment of Italian food products - perfect if you're craving Italian & want to grab a quick meal.
My boyfriend and I had been craving a good sandwich and this definitely hit the spot! He ordered a meatball sub and I ordered The Speciale. First, these sandwiches are pretty big, so definitely come hungry. The bread was thick and soft, and I really liked my particular combination of meat, fresh mozzarella and briny olive / pepperoncini combination; the toppings felt proportional and the sandwich held together well (things weren't falling out and the bread didn't get soggy). I thought the prices were reasonable for what we got. Lastly, we really enjoyed sitting outside on the sidewalk. However, I'd definitely come back again to grab sandwiches to-go before heading to a nearby park or something!
I saw that people claimed that Limoncello were serving up the best sandwiches in SF. I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, so I had to give it a try while I was up in the area. The shop is pretty cute. Has a nice Italian deli vibe to it. Cured meats and stuff hanging and all that good stuff. I have to admit, the menu was a bit overwhelming, and some of the sandwiches seemed very similar in description. So, it was a bit of a challenge narrowing down what I wanted. That said, the sandwiches I tried ended up being quite good. The best I've ever eaten? Probably not, but the best I've had in SF? Quite possibly, yes. One downside was that they don't have sourdough bread as a sandwich roll option. Kind of a disappointment for a sandwich shop in the bay. Still, I'd definitely go out of my way to have it again. Highly recommend.
Came here to grab a quick lunch to go and ended up really liking this spot. The space has small grocery section and a deli counter. Definitely the kind of place locals stop by regularly rather than a one time visit. I got the caprese sandwich but made it spicy. The bread was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. All the ingredients tasted fresh, and the spice added a ton without overwhelming the classic caprese flavors. Because it's part grocery store, the drink selection is way better than your typical place. The staff was also super friendly, they even gave my dog some meat! There's minimaI seating here, but I can easily see myself coming back here often for a quick to go meal.
food - ordered the milanese without cheese and balsamic vinegar. paid at the counter and sandwich was made fairly quickly! it felt like less than 5 minutes. sandwich came with LOTS of meat, they are not stingy! I don't think my bread was toasted but I wish it was by default (or maybe my fault for not mentioning it). Overall quality of meats were really good and flavorful. I think the ratio was a bit off for me because it had too much meat. sandwich is HUGE though it's definitely two meals for me Service - super quick and easy. paid at counter and it was so quick. ambiance - cute grocery shop with deli.
Somewhat disappointed with the food here given the expectations/reviews. We got the Veneziano on Dutch crunch. I can tell the ingredients were fresh, but it wasn't anything special. I'm not sure what the hype is/was. If I wasn't in the area, I definitely wouldn't make a special trip to try it. Service was ok. It was kind of slow. It's located in an upscale deli/liquor/grocery store.
There are two doors to this shop: the door on the hill leads to the deli where you can order meats, sandwiches, and premade food. The bottom door leads to their dry goods area with olive oils, pastas, sauces, beverages, etc. I came in for a sandwich since I heard great things about it. I got the Milanese Sandwich. The pastrami was good and the havarti cheese was good. I wish it had more pesto spread. I ate it at one of the bar like seating in the shop. There are also chairs and tables outside.
Everything was perfect! Service was fast and friendly, the store is clean, and my sandwich was filled with vibrant fresh veggies. It is the only place I have found a sandwich with eggplant, artichoke, and mushroom. The one change I would make, is to add cheese. It was delicious and I cant wait for another! Update: I went back for another and while it was still amazing, they left off the artichoke and I didn't realize until it was too late. . Hopefully it was a fluke.
I'm a sucker for sandwiches, but Limoncello is more of a 3.5-star spot for me now. I used to love it, but lately it just hasn't been hitting the same. I'm not sure if it's the flavor or what, but it's no longer my go-to sandwich shop. I ordered my usual Cuban, and the balsamic vinegar and mustard were a bit overpowering. The portions are definitely generous (as they should be for a ~$20 sandwich), but it's disappointing that it doesn't come toasted.
Two thumbs! Companion has been wanting to take me out for a deli sandwich for quite some time. He has his list of spots in the city, Limoncello being one of them. We were able to finally go and I was quite content! What's fun about Limoncello is that it operates as an Italian market and a deli. The shop is on the corner and decently sized, with narrower walkways for the market and open space for the deli. Highly recommend perusing around the store since there's a lot of cool Italian goods! We came for the food and walked up the steps to the deli. You can see all of their meat displayed along with a menu on the wall boasting their sandwiches, salads, and other dishes. For those who get food, they have counter seating plus a few tables outdoors. Service by the staff was friendly and efficient. They're also dog-friendly inside, and the pup had fun sniffing around! I honestly don't eat deli meat often or crave an Italian sandwich, so this was a treat! I got the Siciliano Sandwich, Dutch Crunch, No Cheese and Pepperoncini. Companion had the Goodfella, Dutch Crunch, No Pepperoncini. They mixed up our sandwiches and didn't label them correctly so it took us a while to figure it out. Once we did we dug in and it was so good! The quality and freshness of the meat and veggies were superb! My companion commented that they loaded the greens up compared to other times he'd been there. The sandwiches themselves are massive and I only ate half of mine, so it's great to save for later! Limoncello has a few locations in the city, the Sutter Street one being their original. Highly recommend coming here to try their sandwiches or just walking around the shop. Parking around here is limited to street parking only.

Ambiance... beautiful store. Great for grabbing lunch salads, sandwiches , wine etc. Service... well run multi staff business. I placed order online and still had a wait, but they were very busy. Food.. what I ordered was just ok, but the sandwich did have high end quality items added. This is great store for high end Italian Deli. read more
had a great experience at limoncello! the owners really care about their customers and the service was fast as well! this place is pretty popular but the lines keeps moving! we also had some mini cannolis as well and the cream was a great consistency along with the chocolate chips in it. definitely will come back and try more of their sandwiches! read more
Large and cute deli filled with tons of Italian foods. We came for sandwiches. My hubs and I actually just got one and shared because the sandwiches are huge. We got the Mafioso which has prosciutto, turkey and mortadella. It's $19 but worth it for the size. A 10 for the sandwich, it was fresh and very tasty, the bread (which imo is the most important part was perfect) we also go the feta cheese and beet salad on a bed of arugula. It was fresh , the dressing was perfect. It was a bit short on the beets and cheese but a very good salad all the same. We also looked at the pastry counter and decided on a piece of tiramisu and a cannoli. I'm a bit of a tiramisu and cannoli snob. Both were pretty average. The tiramisu was lacking flavor. I couldn't taste any rum which is an important part of tiramisu and I'd say it was a 4 out of 10. The cannoli which they make in house, was a bit better but still lacking flavor. As far as service, the person making the sandwich wasn't very friendly and the younger guy at the counter was a bit surly like he didn't want to be there. Not very friendly to us but before us, he was talking and laughing with an older couple in another language , I think they were friends of the owner. All in all, I would definitely come back here for the fantastic sandwiches and salad. read more

I'll always be a little bias for limoncello because I met the owner once who was incredibly hospitable and had memorable recommendations, but even that aside, I love how it doubles as a place for substantial meals (fast casual) and a grocery store with high quality Italian goodies. I looove limoncello with a passion and the people are always sooo friendly and warm! read more

Stopped into this spot for a last minute lunch need, I've heard great things about the sandwiches here so I figured why not! I got the Porchetta, based off the recommendation of the worker, and it was pretty good. I do wish the bread was toasted, and the price tag was pretty hefty (20 bucks with a tip) but given the fact it had fresh mozzarella in it, I can understand. It wasn't the best sandwich I've ever had, but it got the job done and I could tell all the ingredients were fresh. read more
It's like a staycation for lunch, the decor is reminiscent of a corner deli/market in Italy... Order 1 of many signature samiches and the maestros get right to work on creating your bundle of joy, a delectable cornucopia of ingredients layered in an artful presentation of colors and flabors... a delicious Sammy indeed! I am already contemplating the next signature sammmy to sample. They have plenty of Italian pantry goods and assorted beers (Pliny), wine and even Top shelf Liquor for sale and LavAzza coffee bar too! The location is easy to get to and the store itself is very homey. Think of your local neighborhood bodega but make it SF... You can order online or in person. The wait depends on whether there is a lunch/dinner rush so expect a small wait if you come during these times. I can only speak on the sandwiches which there are many combinations to choose some. My favorite is the Mafioso because I love prosciutto and turkey. The bacon is a nice crispy touch! Got the porchetta sandwich on dutch crunch bread for around $20 post tax -- quite pricey but it's a huge sandwich. Unfortunately I wasn't a huge fan of the balance of fillings or the bread. I expected the dutch crunch to be a bit more flavorful, but it didn't add much except texture. There was a bit too much arugula which overpowered the meat. I liked the sundried tomatoes and the olive spread, but overall I think I've had better sandwiches in SF. It was sufficiently filling but I'd order a different sandwich next time. read more
SIMPLY JUST THE PERFECT LITTLE DELI in sf. Was immediately welcomed by the most energetic and friendly workers the second we stepped in. Really fun layout with the grocery store on the bottom and deli in the back. We got The Mafioso Sandwich on a Ciabatta Roll and added pesto and mozzarella and let me tell you--it was the most beautiful and perfectly toasted sandwich with the freshest ingredients. We got our sandwich to go and ate it at Dolores Park not too far away which made it the most ideal picnic meal. Even though the sandwich was a little expensive for a deli (about $24 after tax n tip), was absolutely worth it. I can't WAIT to go back soon!! read more
This is an Italian deli that also sells a variety of stuff, but most known for their sandwiches. 3 locations in SF. I got the Cuban sandwich for $17. I thought the sandwich was good, but not extraordinary. High quality and fresh ingredients, large size, reasonably priced. I'm guessing the sandwiches are all made the same way since I wasn't asked about the type of bread, cheese, etc. Order was ready in about 5 mins. There was about 4 beers on tap. There's a bit of counter seating on the upper level and standing counter areas on the lower level. There's also some 2 top tables outside as well. It's an order and seat yourself type of place. Street parking was plentiful and the shop was pretty empty on a Sunday night. Good, but didn't blow my mind read more
Limoncello is a very cute store/cafe/restaurant situated in a quiet corner of the city. There are two doors - the corner side leads you to the cafe portion of the restaurant where you can order special drinks. There are so many unique Italian sodas, wines and beers you can purchase here. Also, they have plenty of pastas and pastries to choose from. Just a callout that if you choose to pay by card, there is a $7 minimum. The other door will lead you to the deli counter which invites you in with delicious smells of meats, cheese, and more. There are many different options to choose from! The sandwiches come out within a few minutes of placing your order so you are not waiting long at all. I decided to try the Alpino sandwich and I was not disappointed. For the price, the sandwich itself is a big size and hugged by fresh and fluffy bread slices that still hold up instead of becoming soggy. The turkey meat is expertly sliced thinly and is paired nicely with the greens and acidity altogether. It was delicious and you definitely cannot go wrong with any sandwich or other option on their menu. read more

Still one of my favorite sandwiches in the city! Solid selection, service and quality. This last time I ordered ahead since I was on a time crunch but needed to pick up a package nearby. The online ordering was great and the sandwich was ready way before the time I was given, so I appreciated that greatly. Cute sandwich shop that has an Italian deli and lots of other Italian foods and snacks. I was in the neighborhood so I ordered a sandwich online to pickup in the store. There were a few people waiting in the store so I'm happy I ordered ahead. It took about 15-20m for my order to be ready, I timed it perfectly so it was ready when I got there. I ordered the Veneziano Sandwich which has a different description on the online menu than the menu in the store. I think there was a mix up on the online menu. The Veneziano comes with prosciutto cotto which is an Italian cooked ham, provolone, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions and mustard. And although it wasn't the sandwich I expected, it was really good! You can tell they use good ingredients. It had a good amount of ham and everything in the sandwich complimented each other. Definitely will be coming back to try more of their sandwiches. read more
GO HERE. I found this place on a whim during a very short 24 hours in San Fran. Let me tell you, this place is incredible! I placed my order online and it was ready in less than the quoted 30 minutes. Staff was friendly and attentive. It's located in a little market and is super easy to navigate -- definitely had an old school Italian market vibe. Now onto the sandwich. I got the Mafioso sandwich on ciabatta and panini pressed with the dressing on the side. When I tell you this was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had -- I'm not exaggerating. It was packed with turkey, bacon and prosciutto. The mixed greens and juicy tomato added an amazing freshness to it. And the dressing was the perfect cherry on top. Everything we got here was stellar Tuna salad sandwich. Vegetarian ravioli. Eggplant parmigiana sandwich. Pecan Pie. Tiramisu. Here's the problem: they execute badly and incorrectly. We ordered a caesar salad without chicken, paid for it, got home--opened the bag, no caesar salad. We don't live in the city and couldn't trek back to get another salad or ... we also ordered the eggplant sandwich on dutch crunch. Opened the wrapper--it was on a soft roll (which I hate). The customer strive and ordering process is sort of a phoning it in process--and it has nothing to do with a telephone. I mean the guy behind the counter operates by rote, and has a bit of a surly tude. I can happily deal with attitude--but I need the goods to back it up.The people behind the scenes, making the sandwiches, filling the orders, completing the process from front end to back end ... all of it gets lost in translation, and in this case, we didn't get what we paid for. It's a phenomenal market with all things Italian, super authentic and an exciting deli, the ravioli was complete bomb, moist and so so yummy, but the service needs to level up. They need to up their game because it's inefficient. I bemoan the paid or and never gotten caesar salad, which I was super excited to try. Assuming they get the order right, the prices are fair. Parking (free street) is difficult, though there are garages nearby. read more

I keep coming back to this place not only they have great Italian subs but the tiramisu and their salads and lasagna are sooooo tasty. That you well definitely keep coming back for more. They have variety of options for Italian sandwiches. If you're a meat lover or if you're a vegetarian and also the type of bread, I like the ciabatta and of course, Dutch crunch it baby!!! :) read more
Not sure how this place has 4.8 stars. I tried it for the first time and ordered the Speciale and Ravioli pasta. The sandwhich was over $18????? And was extremely mid. There was barely any meat too. The ravioli tasted like something I could make. read more

I've been wanting to try Limoncello sandwiches for so long and I'm so glad I finally got one! The Speciale was honestly so good. Perfect amount of veggies, meat and cheese. I also added on their spicy sauce which was the perfect amount of heat and tasted flavorful. The bread was fresh and I can't wait to go back and try more on the menu! read more
What a 1st impression. What do you get from a place famous for their sandwiches? Pasta. Pause. My friend was ordering food through Neon and, with my fridge getting bare, I looked at their menu. Yes, the sandwiches were tempting but I figured that I wouldn't eat their food for another day or two. I found this solid but I'd get the spaghetti again over this. The store is designed with a modern feel. To order sandwiches and menu items, walk upstairs and place your order at the counter to the right when you reach the top of the stairs. The sandwich makers will put your order together behind the deli counter and they'll call your name or bring your food to the counter when ready. I brought the prepacked salad containers upstairs and paid for them at the same counter. I will return and likely try another sandwich option from their menu but you know that spaghetti and meatballs will be in my bag to take home. read more

This establishment refused to honor my printed AARP coupon. And even when I showed them the coupon on the actual website they called it a scam. I had probably $100 worth of Italian groceries I was going to purchase as I only go in there when I visit my doctor's office nearby. I called AARP and confirmed the coupon is legitimate. read more

Ohhemmmgeeee I love this place and will be back way too much. It's a great grab and go store with a deli and the it's absolutely delicious. Everything I have tried from here as been so absolutely wonderful and it's at a great price point. All the workers are extremely friendly and the owners are passionate about having great food and giving great service. There's tables to sit on outside which are nice if you can grab one! The sandwich we tried was "The Speciale" with spice but we asked to switch the fresh tomatoes to roasted tomatoes! I didn't get a picture of the salad before fixing in but super fresh and delicious! Visiting from out of town and I give this place 10/10. The pizza was so delicious and made to perfection. The Milanese Sandwich was so fresh and stacked with flavor. I will definitely be returning to try more of the foods read more

Solid sandwich for a pretty good price! The focus is definitely on the deli meats here, so don't look for any special sauces or unique flavor combos. The bread they use is just ok, it's really just a vehicle for the meat. I just think it was missing a little something special to amp up the flavor, but otherwise it's a good value choice. read more

Parking on the street was fast and easy, maybe we got lucky? Service was friendly and fine. There's a lot of stuff in this small shop that seems artisan and good quality. Got the Veggie sandwich since it was one of the cheaper sandwich options and wasn't in the mood to spend $$. Sandwich was huge! After finishing the sandwich I decided to look at the reviews here and wow people rave about The Veggie... but I honestly didn't care for it at all. The veggies and quality of the ingredients/bread did taste fresh and nicely made with good portions of each thing but I really didn't care for the taste. Every few bites I felt I was getting bored of it and the pickled/vinegar taste was just getting... annoying. Overall I would come back if it's along my way somewhere and try another sandwich as portion and freshness were good or to shop their other snacks but I just really wasn't a fan of the veggie sandwich. read more
The 5 star rating isn't enough for this spot! They deserve an extra . My friend accidentally ordered her takeout to the other location and one of the deli guys called over there to get her order and make it at their location. Can you believe that? What a sweet guy! Exceptional service! Now food.. I ordered the Mafioso Sandwich which has: Prosciutto, Turkey, Mortadella, Bacon with Organic Mixed Greens, Tomato, Pepperoncini, Mayonnaise, Black Pepper and I added jalapeños! The sandwich was a gooood size so saved the other half for dinner but it was so good we both ate in silence and "mmmm mmhmm mmmm" our way through lunch. Haha one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The ambience inside is very casual. There's a market on one end that sells Italian specialities (snacks, candies, pasta, Italian liqueur, espresso, etc) and the other side is the deli area that was bustling with customers. There are high top tables to dine in and few outside tables as well if you want to sit down and eat! Will be returning soon! read more
I came here to get a cannoli, but I saw their sandwich menu and had to try one of them. I'm so glad I did! I ordered their veggie sandwich and it was one of the best veggie sandwiches I've ever had. The dutch crunch bread was really fresh and the sandwich was loaded with yummy veggies. I really liked the pesto that was on the sandwich. Their cannolis are also very good. Super fresh and crunchy! The workers here are very nice. It is a small Italian grocery store, so most of the seating is all outside. I definitely recommend going here for some Italian desserts and sandwiches! read more

Parking can be tough at their Sutter & Franklin corner location. But it's been a Long time wait to get across town for their famous porchetta sandwich! Or famous for me. I see porchetta sandwiches I order it. You enter the bright, goody-filled deli and peruse the menus but go to the cashier to order sandwiches, salads and get a number for pick-up. You can shop the Italian goodies that are stocked which are eye popping! See their awesome limoncello offerings. Great place for quick lunch, easy dinner, GGP picnic of sandwiches, salads, hot dishes like spaghetti or lasagne and even pizzas. There are some side bar seatings and a table or two outside to eat there. Ordered: * Porchetta sandwich. This was a very well balanced fresh roasted porchetta sandwich w/the peppery arugula, tangy sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil & balsamic, more tang with the olive spread but not overwhelming and the lovely fresh mozzarella! * Caprese salad w/side of olive oil & balsamic. The cashier let me know that I'd need to season the salad w/salt & pepper on my own which is great. I prefer it that way. Usually decline dressing but this is olive oil & balsamic from an ITALIAN deli -- heck yea! Very sweet sugar plum tomatoes (my fav) w/fresh ciliegne (small) mozzarella balls, shredded basil added with the dressing - perfection! * Potato salad - loved surprisingly lightly dressed potato salad of mayo, vinegar and herbs. * Amaretti cookies (boxed) - any time I can find amaretti cookies, fresh baked or boxed, I'm getting it. Thought it funny that anyone I saw with a box of amaretti cookies in the store had them clutched in their arms! I understand. To try later at home: * Veggie lasagne - looked good but will heat it up for dinner later. Looked like lasagna bolognese is popular but who can say bolognese anything is bad. Hence the veggie choice to try it out. * Pasta Bros. Vodka Cream sauce (frozen) - had to try this since I freeze extras of my own marinara or pasta sauces to enjoy later. I barely scratched the surface of what Limoncello Delicatessen offers. It's a wonderland of Italian sandwiches, salads, pizzas, and offerings of Italian fresh cheeses, deli meat, pasta, pantry and baked goods. And European tinned fishes, great for appetizers or happy hour. They've also opened another delicatessen in Noe Valley. Will be back when in the neighborhood especially for the Napolitano (Mortadella!) or combo Siciliano sandwiches , Italian sodas and desserts! read more
