Note: Rating is for the price compared to quality and portion size. If their prices were closer to some other Korean spots, I'd dock a star. This is a simple, no-frills Korean spot that I went to a good while back on the way home from work. The servers were friendly, and in general, the prices are very reasonable for Midtown. The inside was a bit sparse, and there wasn't anyone else eating there, outside of a Korean father and his kids, along with a couple of people who came in after I ordered. To drink, they gave me some barley tea/boricha/보리차. The banchan on the table consists of a standard kimchi, pickled onions, and my preference, pickled daikon, which had a nice crunch and a bit of spice. I would prefer more banchan, but hey, it's Manhattan. My appetizer of choice was the Pork and Vegetable Fried Dumplings/Mandu/만두 for $6.95, with five pieces and a simple soy dipping sauce. The dumplings were warm, full of meat, and slightly oily. While I prefer boiled Korean dumplings, this was still decent, especially for the price. My main dish was the $14.95 Jja Jang Myeon/Jajangmyeon/자장면, a Korean Chinese classic consisting of noodles with a black bean sauce. The sauce had a mild sweetness, but not too much, and the noodles had a wonderful chew. The portion was very plentiful, and there were a lot more onions in there compared to other places I've been to. I think I remember there being a bit of meat inside, but I'm not positive. Overall, while I slightly preferred the more complex version from Hyo Dong Gak, in terms of Manhattan, these were good and just like the appetizer, well worth the price. This is perfectly decent Korean food at a very reasonable price point. It's not a place I would go out of my way to go to, but the flavors were good, and it would definitely satisfy if I was in the mood again and in the neighborhood. Hidden gem. Cheap prices! Excellent Korean cuisine tucked away in a hidden basement. Its a clean restaurant. Not much decor. Great fried rice and fried chicken. Loved the pancake as well. We came for lunch on Sunday and the place was fairly empty. The restaurant itself is fairly casual with a handful of tables. We got the pork belly with stir fried kimchi, bulgogi bibimbap and jajang myeon. They started us off with some banchan- pickled radish, kimchi and pickled onions. Pork belly with kimchi- 1/5. The picture on the menu showed slices of thick cut pork belly. We received thin sliced pork belly that was so dry and bland it was almost inedible. The stir fried kimchi was good. Bulgogi bibimbap 5/5: my favorite dish of the three. Vegetables were well seasoned with a large variety and the bulgogi had great flavor. Jajang Myeon 4/5: tasted fairly authentic with a nice serving of sauce and noodles. Other than the pork belly, we enjoyed the meal. I had lunch on a Friday. We were the only table (we were a group of 7) at 12pm but by the time we left at around 1:30pm there were quite a number of tables filled. I had the pork cutlet. Though the portion was quite sizable, I found it quite salty especially with the small amount of rice included. I would recommend just serving the normal portion of rice that comes with all the other meals. My colleagues all enjoyed their meals and a few had enought leftover to take home as well (they had ordered the hot bowls of soup). The prices are very reasonable for the area. 10/10 neighborhood spot! We went to Lim's Kitchen for a lowkey dinner to end the weekend and had a great experience! The restaurant was spacious and clean-- there were lots of tables available. The food was great too. We had the Army Stew and Korean Fried Chicken and both were delicious. The Army Stew was flavorful, the ramen was nice and chewy, and they are generous with the sausage and spam chunks in the soup. We opted for the Soy Garlic flavor for the wings, and those were wonderful too! Super crunchy, and the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Service was super friendly at Lim's Kitchen too. I will say, they seem understaffed, especially in the front. There was one employee who was acting as the host, bussing tables, taking orders, handling the delivery orders, answering the phone, literally everything. I'm surprised on how not many people know about this hidden gem around the area. I would get lunch from here since it is close to wear I work and all of the times I've been here, their customer service is always nice & friendly. I personally like their squid kimbap the most. They don't skimp on the squid and it's very well seasoned. For the kimbap- they give miso soup on the side which makes it even more filling for lunch. Seating wise- there's ample amount of tables so dont worry. You'll be able to snag one even during lunch time. Would definitely come back again to try their other items on the menu. I came across Lim's Kitchen when browsing the same tired options for food delivery from my workplace in Midtown - while I can only comment about the delivery experience, I'll definitely be ordering again! I got the rice cake and sausage skewer and the zza jang rice. I was pleasantly glad to find the black bean sauce over rice - I love it over noodles, but rice is a lot easier to eat at work so bonus points for that uniqueness! The skewer was delicious too, with great flavour from the generous dose of sauce on top. Again, while I can't comment on the dine in service experience or ambiance, they were kind enough to send in a drink with my order as well. I must've come on a really off day because my experience was mediocre at best, and the way that some of the banchan looked, it did not feel authentic at all. Personally, I feel like there's much better Korean food in the city (though I liked that this place is closer to me than ktown). Our kimchi fried rice also came with absolutely no spam (lol), but the server was pretty nice about it and switched it out. My biggest ick was that it smelled strongly of some weird chemicals inside the restaurant, and the smell clung onto my clothing even hours after coming home (my friends all agreed). My friends and I came by for lunch on a Saturday as the restaurant just opened for the day so we were seated right away. We ordered a few different dishes to share: a pancake, fried chicken and jajangmyun. The fried chicken was very good, but I think the jajangmyun had a lot of onions on top. Walked past Lim's many times since its recent opening. Today we got to try it for lunch midweek. There was one table of 8 when we arrived so ordering was easy and fast. By the time we left there were 6 other tables taken. The decor is stark but very clean. The host greeted us warmly. We tried the pork and vegetable fried dumplings and avocado kimbap. Then we had the japchae and the udon. All the food was very good. The broth in the udon was very rich in depth and very flavorful. Slightly off the beaten path but i think that's what makes the location perfect. Relatively spacious and a bit empty when we went so we got seated easily. Got to try the army stew and yukgaejang and both were quite good. The army stew in particular has all the noodles on top (pictured), which i thoroughly enjoyed since it prevented the noodles from getting overcooked AND you could see how abundant it was. There was no (discernable) cheese so that was a bit disappointing. Since it's more of a bunshik vibe than a regular restaurant, don't expect the traditional number / array of side dishes! read more
