I have come here for brunch a couple of times and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is a mix of upscale cozy and casual public house. The decor harkens back to the late 19th/early 20th century, but they also have multiple TVs for whatever floats your boat. I recommend the breakfast burrito. It is very good and the portion is just right. I also like that the avocado is on top instead of inside the burrito. I have no problem with avocado inside a burrito or sandwich, but I love avocado on its own. On all my visits I sat at the bar and had terrific service. They get an extra kudos from me because even though the menu says that brunch comes with a bloody mary or mimosa, they give me the same deal for a screwdriver, which is my preferred brunch beverage. I ordered the avocado toast which was decent, very mediocre. I was but disappointed at the taste. I like the one at By Chloe more! It wasn't as crunchy or rich because it was on a English muffin, I was expecting it to on a square toast. There wasn't enough spices on the Avo/guac filling. The poach egg was good on it, the yolk didn't pour out the way I like it. I think the southwest meal was more worth it had Avo, eggs, toast etc. and was 12$ ill get that next time if I do go back. We went Sunday after church around 12:30pm and there was space for 2 groups of 6 which was good. If you have 6 people or more need 20% tip. They have pineapple juice which was delicious! This is another tough review... To get this out of the way Food was great. Service was average. My friends and I had ordered some appetizers to share, namely the bacon mac n cheese, the roasted brussel sprouts with pancetta, the disco waffle fries, and the dry rubbed wings. Bacon mac n cheese - they used mall elbow macaroni and a mixture of several cheeses. Didn't get much in terms of bacon but the flavour was present in everybite. Truly good comfort food and one of the best bacon mac n cheese dishes I've had so far. Roasted brussel sprouts with pancetta - The sprouts were a bit under roasted and the pancetta was a little too roasted, however it was a good combination as the crunch from the undercooked sprouts and the tough chewiness of the pancetta offset the textures. Disco waffe fries - truly felt this was the most interesting dish of our order. Waffle fries to increase surface area for maximum flavour in the oil as well as cheese adherence. A lot of thought was placed into the creation of this dish and the quality shows. Dry rubbed chicken wings - well this one was nothing to write home about. Yes there was a little heat from the rub, and yes the wings did have a crispy texture. However this dish was average to me as some of rhe wings I've had were a bit on the drier side. Would recommend not getting high hopes if you order this dish. And as far as service goes... well there could be many reasons but the attentativeness could use some imrpovement. That being said it is a great place to bring a date or hold a small conference meeting seeing as how the staff doesn't come by as often as other establishments. This place was PERFECT. Penny Farthing is right next door and seemed very spacious, but we definitely won with Linen Hall's menu. The service was upbeat, friendly and attentive. We arrived around 5:30 and the crowd hadn't usurped the space yet, so we got a table near the window for prime people-watching. Food was spectacular. I got the herb-roasted half chicken with mashed potatoes and spinach in sherry sauce, also known as the Free Bird Roaster. The chicken and the sauce it was smothered in was succulent, buttery, savory and made you forget your limits instantly. I'll go as far as to say it's one of the best chicken dishes I've had so far! Prices are decent and drinks are cheap during happy hour. Be sure to pay a visit and try their food! The crowd gets much bigger around 6ish, so grab a table before then if you can. I love it so much, I throw one of my own private party there for my own project. We had only about 10-15 folks so it look a bit empty but we were able talk and hang for a few hours on a Friday night. It's basically an extension of Penny Farthing - they share the same kitchen and menu. The brunch menu is very extensive, I had so much trouble deciding what to get! I've eaten at Linen Hall twice in the past month. The first time, my friends and I went in because our stomachs couldn't handle a 45 minute wait at the Penny Farthing, and the second time we went in on purpose. Both times, I've had sliders, so I can't personally comment on the other food (a friend had the mac and cheese and she said it was delicious). The first go-round we had two plates of each variety of slider - shrimp po'boy, cheesesteak and fried chicken. DIED AND WENT TO HEAVEN. Last night, I had a plate of cheesesteak sliders and my friend had po'boy sliders and a side of mashed potatoes. DIED AGAIN, WENT TO HEAVEN AGAIN. I've had my fair share of sliders in NYC and I have to say...these may be the best ones I've eaten. As my friend accurately stated today, "they are the benzos of sliders." Linen Hall is a cool place. 5 stars because disco fries taste as good as it looks and the chicken is something you wouldn't believe until you've tried it. Heard about brunch but came here for dinner instead. The roaster and disco fries seemed popular so we ordered just that. It was popular for good reason. To start, the disco fries were perfect. Fried for a nice crunch while maintaining a moist center, each bite of fries would make you salivate for the next bite when paired with the gravy dipping sauce and cheddar cheese melted on top. I tend to avoid eating fries because crappy fries never seems worth it. But these fries were absolutely worth it! Next came the roaster, which is a half roasted chicken with light sherry wine sauce served with garlic mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes are my all-time favorite food and sadly, this was nothing special. The chicken however was out of this world. The skin had the saltiness of fried chicken yet it tasted a lot healthier. It was crispy but not dry. Underneath, both the dark and white meat was exceptionally moist which is difficult when cooking chicken. Having eaten our fair share of rotisserie chicken, my friend and I concluded this would be considered the best of the best. The sherry wine sauce was rather scarce on my dish. Maybe that's what they mean by "light". But regardless, the chicken packed more than enough flavor for this to pass off as an exceedingly satisfying meal. I will certainly recommend others to come because I will definitely be back! Walked in on at 7pm on a Monday night and was seated immediately because it was only moderately filled. RACIST & RUDE. Staff is only friendly to those who look just like them. Waitress asked to see our IDs and not only did she scan them but she was also seen talking to the other waitresses about us and the ID we presented her with. She asked for another form of ID because BOTH of our IDs look fake Waitress kept saying "sorry but I can't serve you because of your ID" and explained that they're expecting a "visit" so she can't get in trouble. At that point we didn't care for alcohol we just wanted something to eat. We decided to leave for obvious reasons; we were embarrassed and her excuse not to serve us was complete bull. Before leaving, we asked to speak to the manager who surprisingly didn't mention the special "visit" and just said "we're cracking down" I'm assuming on the number of colored people to eat at her bar? For that neighborhood (across the street from NYU) it was not only upsetting but outrageous that they acted this way. The waitress nor the manager were apologetic and when we asked for their info they were hesitant probably because they knew they were flat our being racist in 2019. I've never been so embarrassed to leave a restaurant the way we had to. What wasn't great was that the staff had to squeeze us into a 45-minute slot before a party with a reservation came in and our food came rather late. At least everything is made fresh! The portions looked small, however were actually a great size--just enough for everyone to feel they got the full Sunday brunch, and not too much where we were bursting. A few girlfriends and I accidentally came across this place because the original restaurant that we wanted to go to was fully booked. Once we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly host and she seated us immediately. Linen Hall is a small but cozy place with a fully stocked bar (for all of you alcoholics! haha). Though their space is small, their menu had a large variety of different foods. After reviewing the menu, there were a few items that we HAD to get! We ended up ordering: Waffle Fries with Cheese & Gravy - TO DIE FOR!!! This was my favorite out of all the things that we ordered. Crispy waffle fries topped with melted cheese. WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR? The gravy was good but it was a bit too salty for me. Grilled Steak Salad - Grilled steak on top of arugula. This dish was just alright for me. The steak was overcooked and the arugula salad was flavorless. This was the only thing that we did not finish. Chicken Wings with Rubbed Spices - The chicken wings were so delicious! They were flavorful and best of all, they were baked! It also came with the usual ranch dipping sauce but they gave us a side of barbecue sauce as well. Mmm. Bacon Mac & Cheese - BACON? MAC & CHEESE? YES, you read it correctly! This dish was so darn good! They definitely did not cheap out on the bacon because there was an equivalent amount of bacon and mac. We were so full but kept going back for seconds and thirds. Definitely have to order this!! Fried Pickles - I'm a hugeeee fan of pickles and this was a must for me. I've been at Linen Hall two times and each time was better than the last. The food is delicious and the ambiance is great. I'm not sure how it is on the weekend, I went both times on a Wed's night after work and did not have to wait for table. They have a great selection of beers and wines that go perfectly with their menu. I have had the Po-boy Shrimp Sliders, which I still think about and want to go back for more. If you like Tuna, you must try their Tuna Tacos, they are divine. If are into French Fries like me, you would love their waffle fries, nice and crispy. Came here last night with a friend for a few glasses of wine and some food. Got here about 6 and it wasn't that crowded we were able to get a spot at the bar. The bartender was friendly and attentive and kept refilling our waters. We ordered the patty melt and the beet salad to split. The patty melt was very good, cooked medium rare which I think is perfect for a burger, it came with waffle fries which were also very good. The beet salad also was flavored nice, and not overpowered by dressing. The owner was very nice, and even bought us a round which I think is a good gesture for a newly opened place. Happy hour specials made the wine very reasonable too! By the time we left (8:30), it started to get crowded. Will definitely come back when in the area. I went to Linen Hall with a few friends on a Saturday morning, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and drink specials. It was a hot day, and it wasn't crowded at all, so we were seated immediately outside. For any brunch item, you get a free drink, and the outside area is great for people-watching. I ordered the croissant BLT, which comes with scrambled eggs on top and a side salad. The bacon was perfectly done, and the croissant was HUGE, so it was exactly what I wanted. My friend ordered a fruit bowl, and I feel inclined to comment on it because it actually looked really good and included fresh berries and not your run-of-the-mill melon medley situation. I really wanted to like the food at this place, because my fiance loves it. He's been multiple times and said it was one of the best burgers he's had in Manhattan (and we are burger aficionados). So when we went last night, I was pretty excited to try the great Hallsy Burger. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. While on paper, the burger sounded great (beef, avocado, bacon, jalapeño aioli), in practice, it was not fantastic. First, the meat needed SOMETHING. Salt, pepper, garlic salt, hell, even Lawry's. Second, the bun was terrible. It tasted like dry wall. When one has a good burger, a good bun on which to place the burger is a requirement. My fiance agreed with my culinary critique, so I know I wasn't being overly sensitive about my burger quality. To add insult to injury, I asked the waitress if I could please swap the fries for the brussel sprouts. She told me it was no problem but it would be a few dollars more. I okayed this. Then when my meal came out, I had only steamed brussel sprouts, not the sautéed brussel sprouts with pancetta and Parmesan cheese I had ordered and was expecting. When I mentioned this to her, she said gave me a doe-in-the-headlights look and said, "Oh, okay, well, I could exchange them, but it would take an extra 10 minutes and I'd need to charge you for them." Clearly, I was having a memory lapse, as I thought I had already explained this was fine. I told her to forget it and I ate my bland boring brussel sprouts and my bland burger. On the bright side, when I told her I wasn't paying extra for the brussel sprouts, she didn't put it on our bill. While I was not overly impressed with either the main course or the service, the pre-dinner bar nuts I ordered were tasty. Also, the ambiance and decor is nice, and they have a fairly decent wine and beer selection, and this explains the three stars. Went to Linen Hall last night with a group of 9 to get drinks and some bar snacks. Luckily there were some empty bar stools were we could hang out. The music selection was kind of annoying....too much pop music which doesn't quite fit in with the vibe of the place. We ordered cheese fries, chicken sliders and some kind of wings. The fries and sliders were good, but the wings were kind of dry and bland. Two of the guys I was with were joking around - one guy grabbed the other's knee to get a reaction. The guy manning the door told them to knock it off and that "Crate and Barrel is around the corner", which is quite offensive. Came here for a glass of wine on a quiet Sunday night to catch up with my cousin. We weren't even going to order food until I started seeing some of the yummy concoctions coming out of the kitchen. The aromas were phenomonal - did I smell truffles?
