I have been seeing Carol for seven years. Here facials are amazing. My skin glows for several weeks after the facial. I have had a facial at another spa in NYC, but I did not think it was as good as Carol's facials. Contrary to some of the reviews on here, Carol has never tried to pressure me into purchasing add-ons or products. She usually tells me about the add-on and if I say no thanks she does not mention it again. Over the course of these last few years I have become a fan of Ling's skincare regime. My favorite products are the hydrating toner, daily exfoliating cream, and moisturizer. I also have my eyebrows done at Ling. It is very pricey, but they do a great job. They actually wax both the top and bottom of the brow. Some places only wax the bottom of the brow, which results in the permanent surprised! shape. After being a victim of the surprise! eyebrow wax, I spend the extra cash to have my brows done the right way at Ling. My only complaint about Ling is the prices. I try to catch their promotions as much as possible. read more

My skin is destroyed. I get a facial monthly and my aesthetician had to cancel our January appt because of the snowstorm. I had worked privately with a Ling skincare aesthetician about 15 years ago so I figured I'd try their spa to hold my skin over until my February appointment. My aesthetician was nice but not very professional. She clearly had not read my intake form nor did she check my skin before jumping right into the facial. My main issues was with her extractions. Ling Skin Care charges and extra $115 for extractions. My aesthetician, Mary, was extremely aggressive and was pushing so hard and rough that at one point, she was crushing my eyeball against my skull. Now I'm no wimp when it comes to extraction but I'm not 23 either. My skin could not take this kind of abuse. I was cry red and blotchy when my treatment was over and I did express to the front desk my displeasure. Both the receptionist and Mary assured me that yes redness would be gone by the next day. Well, they were wrong. Mary has managed to break numerous capillaries in my cheeks and it is going to require thousands of dollars in laser treatment to repair the damage she has done. In addition, I can coins at least sixteen distinct lacerations and scans on my forehead from her overzealous use of the lancet; there are countless others along my cheeks, jawline and chin. This is not going away any time soon. She was picking at pores not ready to have extractions performed on them. It is going to take many weeks before these cuts heal and my aesthetician is going to go ballistic when I see her in two weeks. Overall, I would not recommend this salon nor shall I ever return. The lack of proper training will harm your skin more than do any good. I'm very disappointed since I had hoped to find a good place for in-between treatments. This place is NOT it. read more

SCAM! Avoid unless you want to pay $200 to have your makeup removed. Was so looking forward to a relaxing facial. My bad I booked it during spa week. After the aesthetician removed my makeup she informed me a full facial would be at least $200 in addition to what I booked for spa week. So apparently facials normally involve just cleanings with a fancy baby wipe. If you want a mask, steam, extractions or any other standard facial components you have to pay extra. I don't mind an up sell but this was just insulting. I went to front desk because I was hoping I misunderstood because of the aestheticians poor grasp of the English language but no.... now I'm wandering around the city sand makeup and no facial. Sigh. I had been dealing with the most annoying skin issue for years. I would get small bumps around my chin that NOTHING would remedy. I went to dermatologists, I was given prescriptions, I spent countless money on products, changed my diet--nothing worked. Leading up to my wedding I decided to bite the bullet and try one last expensive option--a facial. I have been going back every 6 weeks since. Ann completely changed my skin. She knew what was wrong, she gave me the right products that WORK (and I have very sensitive skin, so finding good products is always challenging.) I can't speak more highly of my experience. Do not waste your money. I would have given it no stars if this was an option. The Oxygen Plasma Lotion does not work. I repeat DOES NOT WORK. I seriously doubt the claim of "celebrity fave" product. Maybe these celebs are not in touch with reality and have so much money that they are clueless. You are better off buying SYKN Oxygen Infusion Night Creme at half the price. And that stuff WILL work. BTW I do not work for nor have any affiliation with SKYN. To add insult to injury the customer service for LING SKIN CARE is non existent. Try sending them an email- the email is returned to you via mailer daemon. This is a legitimate business? Shady. Honestly, we all work hard for our money and want to look our best, and if you are spending $85 for a face cream you want results. something. Not a miracle, but some discernible difference. Review: well overdue and well deserved I moved to New York City in 2011. A colleague at my previous place of employment strongly recommended Carol at Ling Skin Care. As an African-American woman, I had reservations given the sensitivity of skin, which is prone to scarring. However, I decided to go ahead and give Carol a try. From my first treatment, I noticed a big difference in the texture of my skin. I got the facial with extractions and microdermabrasion treatment -- I highly recommend this combination, especially if your skin is uneven and dull. After going to Carol for four straight years, I moved to the bay area last year. I searched for someone new but was unable to get the same level of service that I had become accustomed to with Carol. It was heartbreaking and exhausting not to find a place that was even close, despite how much money spent. This weekend, I was back in NYC and had the opportunity to see Carol. When booking my travel, this was the highlight of my trip. I got the usual (facial with extractions and microdermabrasion) and, as expected, my skin looked fabulous. I am beyond pleased so I wanted to write a review that is so well deserved. I wish I could fly to NYC every month just to get a facial with Carol. Not sure what I'm going to do next month. Like many other reviewers I've been here a couple of times for facials and do enjoy the facials. Michiko is great. However I am docking it 2 stars because I feel like they are constantly trying to upsell you on the facial. I booked a 60-minute herbal facial only find out I had an accelerated version of the 90-minute WOW facial and was charged the full amount for the WOW facial. My suggestion is know what you want and reconfirm before you get started. The second star is because there is a lot of downtime in the facial. After apply a mask they just walk away. They don't do any light massage like many other spas do. In general great facial but for the price the overall experience is lacking. read more

Very disappointed in the Instant Facelift procedure. The esthetician spent more time trying to sell me products instead of focusing on my face. The facial was okay at best and the Black Tourmaline face machine was interesting. Way too much application of product that left my face greasy and prone to break outs. The esthetician talked during the entire procedure and being out in the open at the front of the store was noisy enough. She kept trying to push Ling's products and sell them during the entire procedure! I never had a moment to relax because all I heard was "This is good for dry skin....you need to moisturize etc." What a disappointing experience! Would not recommend the Face Bar if you are looking for peace and quiet. The "Instant" Lift lasted all of 1 hour and was just an illusion. Save your money and go elsewhere for a "real" facial. read more

If you care what your eyebrows look like, DO NOT let Carol near them. Despite she claims she has 15 years of experience....10 days later I am still suffering. Her task was to tint and tweeze. Not sure how she managed this but my brows are reaching out in all directions.....very odd. It's likely becasue she took scissors to them!! Scary indeed. I believe she maybe tweezed a few. Well, I could have done a better job and not wasted my time and money not to mention the embarrasment. Sandy Lee at the front sang her praises loud and long. My regular esthetician, Michiko, was on holiday and I needed the treatment prior to a buisness trip. Lesson learned, Sandy Lee is most likely on commission and in no way to be trusted. Michiko is superb but this business is way too PR hungry and greedy for my taste. They are in a service business as well but Ling doesn't seem to understand that part of the business. This is a gorgeous place and you really do feel like you're stepping into an oasis. I went in with such high expectations and was greatly disappointed. My aesthetician was extremely rough with extractions - it was to the point that I was squirming under her and crying out in pain. She didn't listen and continued on. I'm ok with the deep extractions, however my skin is worse than it was going into for the treatment. I now have more breakouts in the extraction areas - which basically signifies that the aesthetician did not do a clean job performing extractions and was just too harsh. I hope I don't get scar tissue from this experience. And staying in line with other negative reviews - these guys will try to up-sell you on anything and everything. I was booked for a future appointment, convinced to get an extra treatment and was "recommended" three products. I didn't purchase the products and I have since cancelled my future appointment. Had been going to Mary for over 2 years, yes she is a good facialist but she cons you into treatments you never booked for nor wanted. This has happened not once, not twice, not three times, but multiple times with Mary - I book what I want and she goes in and does what she wants and I end up being charged $265. It got to the point that in front of the receptionist I informed both Mary and the receptionist of what service I wanted so I would not have the issue again. The last time was horrible. I went in for a basic facial that already is costly without the extractions (that I did decide to add on). I was very clear with Mary that I wanted what I booked, whether or not she thought I needed more. I wanted a light cleaning and she kept pushing for a deep cleaning. She finally finishes the facial after almost over 2.5 hours - low and behold the salon is closed and Mary has to ring me, she ended up doing what she wanted and charged me over $300 including a tip. Wait! but worst of all my face was like I have never seen before, she butchered me 3 days before an event! I was livid, I called the next day to get some answers and they ignored me. Once the manager returned my call she ended up offering me 20% off future services - what the hell would I want 20% off future services?! Honestly, I'll never step foot in there again nor will I buy products - with me goes my entire set of friends and family - so their stupid 20% off does nothing to resolve what happened. I called back a second time and nobody had the courtesy of calling me back. So there you have it - you just lost another loyal customer because of your horrendous customer service and client relations. It's a shame because I actually really liked the new receptionist. Now I will be going to either Mario Badescu - which I heard is incredible, or Bliss (Irina) or Heyday (Dina) -- both have great monthly memberships. BYE LING! HORRIBLE SERVICE! I went in the store to speak with a manager to receive a refund, and was told that I would be emailed because one was not in. It has been weeks and I have still not received an email about the status of my refund. A great facial for super-sensitive skin. Be warned: they take their extractions seriously! You will be pink for two days, but you will see results almost immediately. My skin is softer, smoother and more hydrated thanks to HJ, who recommended a papaya exfoliator before the extractions, and a peppermint calming mask after. I started using Ling's products in 2000 and fell in love. The products are gentle on my sensitive skin. After a few years of using the products, I finally went to get my first facial in 2004. When I went, I got their standard facial, the ginseng herbal facial, with a single deep pore cleansing. One part of the facial I didn't enjoy too much was the face steaming. I felt like I couldn't breathe but I guess that's what they have to do to open up my pores for extraction without having me submerge my whole face under water for minutes. Quite honestly, I don't understand other reviews who stated that they try to sell treatments and services. On my first visit, the facialist told me I had great skin and that I "didn't really need" facials. She wrote me out a pretty basic regimen, cleanse, tone, moisturize and masks every few weeks. I started going back for regular facials about 5 months ago (because now I REALLY need them) and I love it. My face does come out a bit red at times but it always goes away shortly. Also, they do touchups on extractions for free if you feel that you need them.. As far as their products, the cleanser and oxygen plasma potion are worth every penny! read more

Gina is amazing! I bought a Gilt City voucher for the ginseng herbal facial. After speaking with Gina, she recommended adding extraction and a glycolic peel, which I did. She is extremely thorough, and while she did not approve of my regimen, she did not push me to buy products. My skin has never looked better, and there is not a trace of redness from the extractions. I went to Ann for an eyebrow wax. It was my first time seeing her. She did my friend's eyebrows and I loved them. Anyway, she convinced me to tint my eyebrows as well, that it would really bring out my eyes. I figured why not, and..... OMG these are the BEST pair of eyebrows I've ever had, hands down! Several Manhattan spas and good, if costly, products.

I love Ling skin care products, I have a problem with clogged pores on my forehead, and their ultra sonic machine does wonders during exfoliation. My favorite product is the spotlight papaya, that exfolitates and brightens my complexion and the instant oxygen recovery mask, that really wakes up my skin. The facials here are the best, they really clean you face and put back the proper hydration and nutrients back into the skin, after each facial my skin is noticeably brighter and decongested. read more

I had a great facial, the place was remodeled a few years ago. She did a nice face and shower massage and v thorough extraction. I added the peel for $95 and it was so worth it. I had lots of small red spots from breakout and dry from staying in hotels and cross country travel. She brought in a device with a roller on it, helps to get the product deeper into my skin. My red spots weren't as red. Skin looked better. She said if I had problems within the next 3 days I can go back for free. Oh they pop pimples for $10 each read more

I just had my facial last week, had the diamond peel and Carol was definitely the best Extractionist in New York. No joke she can find outbreaks even before you realize it. I've had a few days to let my skin settle and now it is awesome. Don't worry about the initial post facial condition, I was too, just do it when you have 2 days to wait out the redness, some people have no problem at all. I also found out she has a strong following from the fashion industry, clientele includes designers and models as I spotted her as a guest at one of the Fall 2011 fashion week. I don't think I need to go back as often as she really cleansed it out so my usual fortnightly visit to other spa is now reduced to monthly. read more

My girlfriend convinced me to go there after I started getting a lot of whiteheads. The facial was very relaxing. I enjoyed the head massage as I felt the tension in my whole body melt away. Cherry my facialist was very knowledgeable and explained to me why I was breaking out.. mainly from the excessive sun and swimming. She took out all my whiteheads and recommended the starter kit which I've been using for 2 days. So far so good! I will go back every couple months. read more

Who are all these buzzkills writing negative reviews? Maybe they were all for Spa Week. Personally I avoid Spa week, Restaurant week... they aren't good gauges of a place and it's services when they are trying to attend to 10x as many people per day. Over time I have been to many spas whether in New York, Paris, Hong Kong... etc. have been to Ling's only twice (starting 2 months ago) and absolutely have nothing but glowing things to say. From their aestheticians to their products. They highly recommend things they believe are necessary for your skin, but never pressure you. Both times I've been there for about 2 hours. Sure... it's a little more costly than some average places in NY- but who spends TWO HOURS cleansing, extracting, and pampering your face and walking you through everything step by step? I have had HJ and Michiko and both were unbelievably great. Completely worth every penny and ask you to come back for touch ups if you need, all complimentary. And their products are unbelievable too. The Hydrator and the Oxygen Plasma serum.... unreal. read more

I have been seeing Angie at Ling Skin Care now for about 4 months now and she has completely transformed my skin. My skin was very dehydrated and kept breaking out, after about 4 facials with Angie, I notice a massive difference. I am breaking out less often every month and my skin looks radiant and glowing. It is a work in progress, but Angie takes the time to explain my skin and the regime I should be following.
