I had my first facial here and it was awesome. The women who work here are so friendly and welcoming. They let you know everything about the treatment before actually doing anything. The experience overall was very relaxing. I had heard so much about how facials hurt, but this was nothing more than a slight pinch. The women who were treating me were able to get rid of the pimples on my forehead and most of the blackheads on my nose. In between treatment, they even gave me a massage! On several occasions, I have gone here and basically sat with a mask on my face for 20 min., fell asleep and then was charged $45, for little if anything else. Now the price has gone up--so I will go elsewhere...I don't need to pay upwards of $45 to sleep with some mask on my face with a few extractions and 2-3 min. of massage. read more

I've been going to Avani for years. Annie has single handedly improved the quality of my skin, and keeps it looking healthy! Every time I come back from a facial, one of my friends invariably tells me that I glow. For $40 for a deep cleansing facial, it's the best beauty deal in town. Now, to be fair, it's not the kind of place you go to be all frou-frou pampered with creams and lotions that don't work... or to be lulled to sleep with new age music and waterfalls in the background. This is the place you go when you want an inexpensively priced facial that will actually improve your skin quality. (She's been a miracle worker with some people I know who have had horrendous complexions). It's clean and I've referred at least a dozen friends here -- all of whom have had very good experiences. What to expect: - a multi-step facial that begins with a cleanse, exfoliation, steaming and facial / upper body massage; followed by an extraction session (which can be painful, but Annie is an expert who if she was at a higher end salon would be charging at least 3-5x the price, and she never leaves scars... in part thanks to the gentle electric wand that they use at the end of the facial to prevent scarring). - it's not going to be an Avedea type experience -- the salon is no frills, and isn't necessarily the most quiet of places; but it really does the trick. - also be aware that the staff is Chinese -- Annie's English if great; but the other two staff assistants may not speak English that is as fluent. - you can also book time for other procedures (e.g., massages, microderm abrasions, but can't comment as I've never gone for these). For $40 / facial (or $35 / each if you buy a package of 6), I think it's the best beauty bargain in the city!!! (And note: when you book an appointment for a facial, ask to see Annie). read more

Best facial in NYC. I love coming here because the facials are both therapeutic and deep cleaning. Their staff is amazing and the facials include this amazing massage of your face, neck and shoulders. At the end of a long week, its the cherry on top of my weekend sundae. When it comes to facials, I'm VERY PICKY because it's my face! I love this place so much that I immediately got the package deal after my first time. I've been to other facial spots in the city both cheaper and more expensive, it just doesn't compare to the experience. I refuse to go anywhere else now. They're a local business that is very personalized and won't treat you like a number in a facial factory. Overall been twice and my friend goes regularly. It's been a great experience, not fancy at all but clean and well run. The women are sweet and there are usually several employees there at the same time. Plus you get a great shoulder massage with every facial, they spent two hours on us last time. Its true that everything needs to be cash and you save money if you buy a package but I have never had the problems the other reviewer has had. Poor V. Wish she had the experiences I have when I go to Avani. A word of advice...don't go Christmas shopping on 12/24 if you don't like crowds or multi-taking clerks. Avani is not for those who require excessive coddling or Fifth Avenue amenities. It is located in Chinatown! Prices are reasonable because overhead is low. Granted during busy times your service provider may need to stop and grab the phone but they do not short change on service because of the interruption. Go during the week or off times and you will have the place to yourself. I have only had massages and facial but they offer many other services. And the best thing...if I am short on time they will tailor the treatment and price. Likewise for a day when I can get a massage and facial Mei and Anne take their time allowing me to enjoy my extra "me time". read more

I have been going to Avani for a very long time. It is inexpensive and no frills. The facials are excellent. I, too, worry about the facialists washing their hands between customers as they run back and forth to answer the phone, etc (so I hope that this review serves as a reminder to the owner to make sure this happens). The thing about the place is that it is very loud. The owner needs to ask people to turn their cell phones OFF and to keep their voices down especially since we are all divided by curtains. I do not find the people there greedy. If they were greedy, they would spruce the place up and charge more. I have been to may places in the city and they rate at the top for sure for the quality of their facials. I can never figure out exactly what products they are using on my face though. I see Le Mer jars but know FOR SURE that they are not using that product. read more
