Called on a whim, fully expecting to get booked days out, but Ling had availability that same day for both me and my partner! Total lifesaver because we were definitely in last-minute haircut panic mode. When we got there, Ling was super warm and welcoming. Her salon is lovely--clean, cozy, and has this relaxed vibe that immediately puts you at ease. If you're like me, don't be thrown off by the "barbershop" sign in-front. Definitely the worst place I've ever been to. On the phone she said she would charge 30 dollars, when I finished cutting she charged me 40 dollars. When I got home one side of my hair was different than the other side. She is not attentive, she does everything in a hurry to serve the next customer. She only reserves 15 minutes for each one. Came here for a walk in and was seated right away. The female barber, sorry I didn't catch her name was great she was a knowledgeable and welcoming. I told her what I wanted and showed her a picture and couldn't have asked for anything better. She pays attention to detail and used a razor blade to cut the sides and back of my hair. I believe there is only 2 barbers here I didn't see he other barber though. It's cash only so make sure you bring cash and I don't think there is a ATM any where close by. It's 20 dollars for a haircut and 18 for senior citizens and children which is probably the best price I've seen for the quality you get anywhere close by. I'm new to the San Diego area and I was used to paying around 45 for a haircut without tip. So this was basically a steal. I would def. come back here and recommend anyone to this place. read more

Mrs. Ling NAILED IT! I have been looking for a barber like her around San Diego. About a month ago, I went to a hipster spot in North Park and this guy completely rushed my hair and I walked out of there with the saddest face ever. Anywho, a month and some change later, I go back on Yelp to look for another one around me. I live in Point Loma, so figured I would find something around me. I run into Rey's Hair Design. Yeah, it doesn't have many reviews, and they are all positive...I read all the positive feedbacks about Ling, so I thought to myself "It's 2019, let's roll the dice and take a risk!" I went in, there were two ahead of me. Patiently waited, no worries, I have my phone to entertain me. Once it was my turn, I showed her pictures of my previous haircuts from back East. She said "Okay!" and she proceeded to cut my hair. At first, I was a bit worried, but screw it, hair grows back if she doesn't get it right, so I went for the ride. Now, I am a picky person... I don't know why, I just am. So towards the end, she asked me if everything was okay, and so I proceeded to tell her the small adjustments I needed in order for my hair to look the way I want it to. To my surprised, she completely NAILED my directions and you can tell she is a VERY skilled barber/hair stylist. I thanked her, paid and tipped her, and I immediately went home to take a shower to make my final adjustments to my sideburns (I ended up making them a little bit shorter. Now I know exactly where I want them next time). My hair is curly and can be a bit dry, so its tricky to cut. I think she did a FANTASTIC job and will definitely be going back to her in the future. I walked in to Rey's Barber Shop this morning and was greeted with big smiles and a warm welcome. The experience was very pleasant, and I'm very happy with the cut. I simply said that I wanted a high and tight hair cut and showed a couple of examples-that's all they needed. I will be back. I did not see any porn magazines (which other people actually consider to be a positive) and I really appreciated that.
