There is a truth to be found in doing yoga, and that truth is what you can do that day. Taking a good look at your body and it's function and making that a priority for 90 minutes. I want to gain flexibility, I want to strengthen what's weak, I want to improve my balance, I want to thank my body for working so well, I want to sweat out all the beer I drank that week. Selfish? Perhaps. But who can be blamed for taking care of yourself. I'm finding my 90 minutes of hot yoga represent an atonement for me. To atone is to be " at one" and I feel that the class offers a chance to connect the you that decides with the your that acts. In the reconciliation of the mental and physical body, there is a reward that draws individuals to classes like this. The nature of Bikrim is to find the edge of what you can do and then explore that over time. I won't bore the reader by repeating what's been said in prior reviews but I've learned I don't do this yoga because I'm good at it, I do it because it's challenging. At first I found the way the class is taught a bit arrogant. Ultimately that translated into something more like an "Our Father" at church. It's done in unison as a group with each person participating. I see the same routine as predictable and reliable now. I can reference where my body is because I'm familiar with the process. I've had a free thinking mind my whole life, and unexpectedly found a freedom in the Bikrim routine.

The kids classes were great, my young one is athletic but a bit shy and he instantly felt welcomed and had a blast. There were a good number of kids and the class was great. I didn't catch my older son's class since the adult beginner class was at the same time, but there were lots of kids and my son said he enjoyed it and when we come visit he'd like to come back. He said he's going to bring back a couple games to our gym back at home. Beginner adult class was good. Coach was very welcoming, did a great job of giving context to a few different sweeps and movements. They did a good job of partnering low experience and higher experience folks together which was nice, nice people all the way around. The class after jumped right into rolling, so wish I had planned to stay for that. The facilities were really nice from what we saw/used. The gym was huge compared to others I've visited so plenty of space to stretch out and roll. I really appreciate all the folks I met and engaged with. From my first email asking if we could drop in, to the kids who were really nice to my kids and the coaches who were very welcoming; we would be joining up if we lived in upstate ny. Only bummer was they were out of kids size t-shirts to buy (because they're in high demand), but picked up some nice Secor bjj shorts for a memory and takehome for the kiddos (if that's the biggest negative, that says something).
