My boyfriend and I stopped by here for an early dinner before catching a movie. Ever since I met him, he has constantly raved about this spot, so I was excited to finally try it. Arriving around 4:30 PM was the perfect move, the restaurant wasn't crowded at all, and we were seated right away. Our server was incredibly nice and attentive, and in a cool twist, my boyfriend realized it was the exact same server he remembered from his high school days coming here after soccer practice. The Warm-Up: We kicked things off with some classic chips and salsa. The chips were serving perfection, soooo warm and seasoned with just the right amount of salt to keep you reaching for more. The Main Event: For my entree, I ordered the shrimp enchiladas, which came paired with traditional rice and beans. My boyfriend stuck to his classic and ordered the chicken burrito he has been getting for years. The Flavor Profile: My enchiladas were incredible; the green sauce was creamy, heavenly, and tied the whole plate together. The meal definitely hit the spot. As for the boyfriend's burrito? He confirmed it was exactly how he remembered it. Needless to say, we absolutely smashed the food. The Verdict: This place completely lived up to the years of hype. Lino's in Bakersfield is right down the street from a large market, so you can't miss it. it is so pretty and very comfortable. The place is older and so well main maintained. It is like a bit of old Mexico and we love it. Parking is super easy and the prices are very fair. Now, it can get crowded and I think they take reservations, but call them to make sure. We had about a 15 minute wait without reservations so it was not bad. We have been twice. The last time we came we got take out to go back to our hotel. We love the service. Everyone is so nice and they are fast. You will get help with the menu if you need it. We love all their food. Their rice and beans are exceptional. And they have a Happy Hour shrimp with fries that is great. I am not sure of the times. We have not done that in a while. Try their pork belly tacos. I had an overall good experience. There was a parking lot so it was easy to park. We went at a time that wasn't busy but it was during happy hour so I got two glasses of wine. I had enchiladas , the pork belly taco and they gave us a sample of the chile releno. All of it was great. My husband is a vegetarian so they deep fried the corn tostadas in its own oil rather than use the oil that had fried the beef. So considerate. The salsa was homemade and extraordinary. Pork Chile Verde Chilaquiles!!! My first trip here was just a few weeks ago and I've thought about my meal for all that time. I live 50ish miles away, one way, and I'm happily back again, today. Sorry, but there is no "before" shot. I was so eagerly anticipating the arrival of my dream dish, that I was half way through before I even remembered to document my delightful meal. As we were leaving Bakersfield to head home I wanted Mexican food and found this place right off the freeway. It was only 10 something in the morning but it was open. I think the owner was also our server and she was amazing as was the food. She brought us chips and salsa of course but had us try her chile verde with big chunks of pork in it with the chips. The shrimp fra Diavolo appetizer was spicy and delicious. The seafood enchiladas had Alfredo sauce which I never would have thought of really but they were also very tasty. My husband' enjoyed his chorizo and eggs with beans and papas. The portions were generous and the prices fair. Our server refilled our tea three times and offered more to go for our ride back home. I've gone a couple times in the last several months and when I did, there wasn't flavor in the rice, beans, or chile verde. It seemed like it needed more salt because everything just tasted bland and not good. I know you guys make good food, but please season it better. I paid $70 and it wasn't good. I've learned not to fully rely on Yelp Bakersfield for reviews. Been let down one too many times. In this instance, that was not the case. Chili Verde at this spot is lean and delicious. My son had the burrito and I had the taco. The sauce had just the right amount of spice, and the meat was cooked perfectly. The taco was a bit sloppy so I am glad they gave me extra tortillas. Chili Relleno plate was very good. I like the fact that they do not use too much batter. The cheese was smokey and nice and melty. It's topped with a light red sauce that isn't too rich. The rice and beans tasted freshly made, also good. Pork belly tacos were great. Nice and crispy on the outside side, tender and juicy on the inside. I really enjoyed the salsa on top. Shrimp ceviche was fresh and tasty albeit slightly over salted. The portion was pretty small but I didn't mind because we ordered a little of everything. The shrimp taco was more "fixings" than shrimp but also tasty. I liked the spicy mayo-type sauce they topped it with. I do wish they would have crisped the tortilla a bit more, it pretty much disintegrated after the first bite and the taco fell apart. The guacamole and the salsa were very good. I like that they give you flour and corn tortilla chips...nice twist. Lastly, the flan. I really can't review it this time around. We also had the house margarita. 4. Food This place reminds me of homemade cooking. Quality,Quality,Quality. We had a pork belly taco rice and beans and Chile verde burrito. The rice and beans had great flavor (just like home). The Chile verde is amazing. . So much flavor! The best it town. We also had house margarita (Simple syrup Lemon juice Tequila and Tajín on the rim). Soooooo good! 4.Service Lino's treated us like family. Every single staff member we ran into from the bus boy to the waitress had a smile on their face (happy to be there). Everyone was so nice to us. While driving down Taft Hwy. you see little town on the outskirts of town called Pumpkin Center. I grew up in the area, and while taking my hubby to his office decided we would stop and have lunch. I have learned in the past don't let the outside of the building fool you. We walked in and were seated quickly, it smelled so good in there. Chips I believe were made fresh and the salsa was really good,I liked that it was more of a saucy pico. My husband and I both chose a Lino Bowl, mine Asada and his Chili Verde. Food came out hot and fast, the portions are huge, and defiantly pretty tasty. Glad to say I live within a few miles of Lino's, so I think we will definitely be back for future visits. All 3 were decent, but the pork belly was my favorite with the chicken taco my least favorite. Lino's is not only a great spot to sit down and get some delicious Mexican food, but they're one of the few places whose food truly holds up if delivered through a meal service! At our last visit, between the 3 of us, we had the shrimp, fish, pastor, chicken, and ground beef. They are small tacos, but they are filled with so much meat! Still looking for my go-to Mexican restaurant. My dad told me to try Lino's. Coming back into town, my friend and I decided to get off 99 and onto Taft highway to try Lino's. It's a little precarious to park, but we did that safely. We were seated immediately. Got menus and out drink orders taken. Chips and salsa didn't arrive right away. I was getting ready to ask, but then they were served, chips were fresh and hot! I liked the salsa. It was chunky and juicy. My friend ordered her standard, the cheese enchilada, taco combo. I ordered a shrimp ceviche tostada and the Chile relleno lunch special. Ceviche was served on a freshly fried corn tortilla with an avocado slice on top and lime on the side. First bite was a little shocking because of the artificial lemon taste. I got used to it after a few bites, but it was hard to get past that taste. Our lunches arrived and a couple bites in, our server told my friend they had given her a chicken enchilada instead of cheese. They took the plate back and fixed the order. The taco threw her off a bit. It had pico and avocado, which she wasn't expecting and she scraped off. I enjoyed the Chile relleno. It had a nice sauce. The refried beans had a really nice flavor, but the rice was basic. Service was pretty good. Took a bit to get refills and more chips,but overall a decent experience. I went here last night with my wife for my birthday dinner on the recommendation of a co-worker and I'm honestly disappointed with the experience. On a positive note I found the chips and salsa delicious, clearly made in house and very good. The rice and beans were also very good I enjoyed them a lot. Our server was great, he was very friendly and very attentive to us stopping by the table several times and making sure our drinks were never empty. Great service Now what bothers me is the entrees. Anytime I go to a new Mexican restaurant the benchmark dish for me is Chile Colorado, it's my favorite and my go-to. The Chile Colorado here really disappointed mainly because the sauce was watery and had absolutely no flavor. I felt like I was eating meat in red water. Chile Colorado is all about the flavor, the heat, the spices. This had none of the above, I ate a spoonful of the sauce alone just to try to get the flavor from it and nothing, I don't know what happened with the sauce but it was absolutely tasteless and way to thin/watery. My wife had cheese enchiladas and experienced a similar issue, while the sauce was thicker on her enchiladas than on my dish it still lacked any real flavor and the enchiladas themselves were soggy like they had been sitting in the sauce for a long time. Overall pretty disappointed, I think we can cross this one off the list and move on. read more
