I had a great experience with Shiang at Lins Alterations in Canton. I came in thinking I needed alterations done on my pants, and instead of just taking the job and charging me, Shiang was completely honest and told me I could actually buy a new pair for less. That kind of integrity is rare. She easily could have made more money off me, but she chose to do what was best for me instead. I originally brought in two pairs of pants to get hemmed, and after talking it through, we only ended up hemming one. That alone saved me about $50. Most places wouldn't do that, but she genuinely looks out for her customers. On top of that, she was knowledgeable, professional, and took the time to understand exactly what I was looking for. If you want someone who truly cares and does quality work, I highly recommend Shiang. I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Warning! Do not go to Lin's for alterations!! I trusted this business with my daughter's brand new maid-of-honor dress for my other daughter's wedding. The dress was perfect and with tags when I took it in to be altered. When I picked it up, it was damaged in multiple areas. See photos! When I pointed out the damage, one of the ladies began yelling at me and attempted to yank the dress out of my hands!! Unacceptable, unprofessional, and awful... $100 paid to them for simple hemming and I received a damaged dress. read more

Dropped 4 pair of slacks to be altered. The slacks were 33" inches from mid-inseam to the cuff. I requested them cut to 32" length. I did not try them on there, simply measured them myself. Picked up the slacks in one week as promised. Took them home, measured them before trying them out and found them to be 31". I decided to try them on anyway rather than going straight back to complain. To my surprise the 31" length was perfect and what I hoped they would look like at 32" despite being at 31". Fortunately it worked out for me. My purpose for the review is, "let the shop do your measurements so you can be sure of what you expect." I found the ladies to be courteous and the finished work on my slacks looked as exactly as they did new. My rating is based on what I asked for and what was done. Also, I'm giving Lin's some "slack" as they may measure men's length from a different location than I. read more

This is long overdue! But going to Lin's alterations was the easiest thing I have done in the whole wedding process, I brought my dress in after 3 WEEKS of leaving it in the bag and he was able to get all the stains out! Also note, we got married in the middle of a hurricane, outdoor barn area, with a monsoon of rain ALL day! They are such an amazing business! They dry cleaned and preserved my dress and it wasn't nearly as much as other people. They also did my garter, husbands tie, ribbon that went around my bouquet. They did an amazing job and we will definitely be back for anything else we need dry cleaned! Also note, my dress had A LOT of beading and was extremely expensive (about $5,000) so I had to put a lot of trust in my dry cleaner and they surpassed my expectations! read more

I have used Lin's for years. They do such great work. I've had letters sewn on lettermen jackets, prom dresses altered, homecoming dresses altered and dresses reimagined and reworked with embellishments and sleeve pieces added. I've had regular clothing altered and it's been great! They've always done amazing work in a timely fashion and for a terrific and fair price. I was recommended to get my wedding dress altered here by about 1/2 the people on Facebook so I decided to go with it. We had to do 4 different alterations- not because it was done well and just didn't fit right- but because the work was so poor. My straps were altered uneven, they brought in the material around my legs but not my hips so I looked like a mushroom. After tightening the hips up, we couldn't even get the dress over my hips. Had to loosen again. Finally fit well, but they didn't cut the extra fabric so it was bunched up on the sides and you could see it thru the dress. They also stitched the top layer of lace over the bottom layer to high so there was a giant wrinkle on the side. The busses was made with a tiny hook that clearly could not support tulle, but she said it would. Surprise! The hook broke off during the reception. We decided to give up on this place as we had no more time left. One of the ladies was very sweet, but didn't do quality work. I'm not sure how the other ladies work is. Only reason I'm not giving one start is because they made the alterations in a very timely manner. So if you need a quick fix, you can try it out. Just don't recommend wedding dresses. read more

I went to 3 different places with my wedding dress and Lin's was my last stop. None of the other alteration places made me feel too great about leaving my dress with them. The lady at Lin's asked me questions and listened to what I wanted rather than just telling me what should be done and what couldn't be done. She was so nice and seemed very confident in her skills, so I chose to leave my dress with her. The price was amazing too. My dress has a lot of beading and detail so Heming it will be intricate work. The hem, strap adjustment, and boning removal is only going to be around $300! Zero stars. This is one of the rudest women I've ever encountered. All I needed was to have my measurements taken for my bust and waist for a bridesmaids dress I have to order online. I drove 7 miles to Lin's alterations dragging my three-year-old with me. She refused to take my measurements even though I was going to pay her. She would not do it because she wasn't going to be making the dress and wasn't getting real business out of it. As I was trying to ask her why she couldn't just take my measurements, she walked away to the back of the store leaving me alone at the desk. This woman was unbelievably rude. I then drove 10 miles in the other direction to another tailor, who immediately said "of course we take measurements." Stay away from Lins alterations. They do not deserve your business. read more

I gave this nice woman a hard task that she had never done before and was skeptical to do. I gave her a stuffed T-Rex and a stuffed penguin and asked her if she could cut the top of the T-Rex off and use the bottom of the penguin to make a unique stuffed animal for my step kids. She did it!!!!! Not only did I have a T-Rex with a penguin bottom, but she also put the top of the penguin on the bottom of the T-Rex to my pleasant surprise!!! I know this sounds crazy but it is my step kids dream! She is amazing and I would recommend her to anyone I encounter!!!! read more

These ladies are so quick and affordable! We had custom ordered a prom dress for my daughter online, but when it came in it still needed adjustments. They stayed late on a Wednesday to take my daughter's measurements, and had it ready to go by lunch on Friday.
