It's been four years since my original review. I have taken my car to multiple shops since then and passed three emissions tests. No one else has ever told me that I needed a catalytic converter change that would cost me $1000 in order to pass emissions. 2 stars. Even. It pains me to say it. I tried calling in twice before bringing it in, to get an idea of when to drop off the truck first. We have two cars in our household between two of us who drive, so you understand why I would want to know if the truck needed to be there for a day or two. First, no one would return my messages, then when I did reach somebody live, they said just to bring it in and prepare to leave it for the day. No problem. It didn't get worked on that first day. And we didn't get contacted about it. We had to call in to see what time we needed to pick it up, which is how we found out. So we left it for another day. We went in towards closing time the 2nd day to pick it up...and it had not been worked on AGAIN. Luckily, a nice man helped me and went to the street where the truck seemed to be permanently parked at, to see what was up. He recommended that the sparkplugs get done and some other work. Cool; thanks broseph (aka dude.) He said that the shop would need it for another day, but he would make sure to talk to the right people about it. So, we left the car another day. (Dude was not working the next day.) [They] replaced the cap and rotor, but did not do the sparkplugs that our friend had recommended to them? Seems like they would have done that...I've worked in the auto industry, so I really understand how this auto service works and am an understanding person. I chalk this up to poor communication, and a lack of organization. The oh-so-helpful iPhone Yelp app directed me to Lioe's Automotive, where I can get an oil change AND tire rotation in under 45 minutes. Then there's the added convenience of Java Love Cafe next door, where you can sip and wait in the comfort of your favorite latte and plate of huevos rancheros. How awesome is that?!?!?!!! So being desperate for an oil change I found myself calling Lioe's and asking if they squeeze me in later that day. Not a problem, come on by I was told. A few hours I walk in and say I'm there for an oil change and they recognize me from calling earlier. The staff quickly took my keys and got to work on an oil change. While waiting I was told I could hang out in their office or next door at Java Love. I chose to sit in the office since I had already consumed several cups of coffee that day. After about 40 minutes, my car was done. I paid and was happily on my way. The staff was super nice and there was no sales pitch for other things to be done to my car or anything else. I love my car. Seriously, it's VERY important to me. I used to have a technician I could call on personally but since then I am doomed to go to the dealership for everything. I don't drive a Civic or Integra so it's not like I can jump under the hood so do what I need. Recently, my radiator cracked. Yea, I almost cried as I haven't had one problem with my car. I'm on a budget and just like everyone else I don't want to pay an arm, a leg and more to repair my car. My friend, Shinichi O., recommended me to go to Lioe's and I trust his opinion. (Nichi, if you're reading this than yes I said it, I trust you lol.) Other than price, my issue was finding a place other than the dealership that would have the parts in stock and get it fixed the same day. I asked Lioe's about this and they promised it wasn't an issue. Thank the heavens! Staff was friendly, not pushy and they called to notify me of the progress. I knew there were a few things that my car needed, like a new timing belt but they weren't pushy about it. My car was finished in a very reasonable manner and taken care of. Also, very patient of my situation and I appreciate that so much. So glad to find a reliable shop I can take my baby to now. Bring your car here, they will take care of you no doubt! read more

About a month ago the speedometer on my 98 Subaru stopped working. I had been taking my car to a popular Volvo/Subaru repair place in West Seattle. They estimated it would be $1200 to replace the speed sensor. For a 98 Outback, that means new car time. I heard good things about Lioe's and figured it couldn't hurt to get a second opinion. Lioe's was able to replace my speed sensor and change the oil for about $350! They did it all within 24 hour of my initial phone call. The other good thing about Lioe's is their customer service. I am the co-driver of that '94 corolla. And I have just been shocked out of my chair. When I first got the call, it was "Alice, the struts on the car are shot and everyone says it needs to be replaced soon...Oh and Lieo's says it's estimating about $900 for the whole job" ... GULP. So imagine my shock when I get the email saying "Oh car is fixed. and guess what? Only the rear struts needed to be fixed so total came to about $500!!!" WHAT?!?!? Love Lioe's. Great service, affordable prices and they can almost always work on my car within a day or two. I have no complaints! Usually, if something is wrong with my car, I call ahead and describe the issue. They usually tell me to bring it in first thing the next morning, or sometimes even that day. They take a look at the car, call with an estimate and if it is a quick fix, I have my car back at the end of the day. If they need to order a part, I may need to bring the car back in a couple days, but it is always fixed quickly and at/or below the estimate. No surprises. I have also taken my car in for repair, and the fix was so simple that it was returned to me at no charge. They have offered to order refurbished parts for a less expenisve repair as well. As a woman I appreciate that the staff describes the issues with the car in a no nonsense manner. I have been to several mechanics who will dumb down the issues when talking to a woman. As if a woman couldn't possibly know or care what is actually wrong with her car. There is none of that with Lioe's. In fact, half the time a woman is explaining the repairs to me! My brakes have skipped the squeaking stage and have gone straight to the shaking stage. Pretty uncomfortable when I'm going down the hill, but I was more scared of how much this repair may cost. Because of that, I've put off getting it fixed. I mean, it works....mostly. So I finally decided to get it fixed and called Lioe's to get an estimate. They told me that their normal brake jobs are around $200. I dropped of the car around 9 in the morning. They called around 10:30 and I was sure that they were going to tell me that my repair was going to cost $300 plus. But the voice on the line said that they took apart the brakes and it would cost around $200. 'Is that ok?' Of course that's ok, I was overjoyed that it was only around $200. They called again around 1 and told me that my repairs were done. They are fast, reliable and cheap. No one EVER told me of a $85 charge until I arrived to pay and pick-up. Never was there a mention of this prior to the moment I arrived - I was told $230-$250 for my clutch/brake problem -- I approved this. Then I arrive to a bill for $370. This was YOUR miscommunication. Your miscommunication of price, and I have to pay for it. According to YELP review "ambika s." of 9/20/2010 her repair was checked out without paying any diagnosis fee - so apparently you choose when and when not to charge - which would be fine as long as you got approval from the customer - which you didn't from me. After many recommendations and 3 practically non-working cars, I decided to give this place a shot and bring my '98 RAV4 in for an overdue oil change, squeeky breaks, and the fact that the car just dies when idle or if I don't have my AC on. Called Lioe's Saturday morning to tell them that I was dropping off my car. They close at noon on Saturdays so we just made it. Talked to Kenny and told him about my car issues. He immediately noticed a problem under the hood -- "someone's been messing under your hood". Dirty, I know, right? LOL. No really, I explained that it was my brother's car and he used to drag race the RAV .... *shaking head* he said, "I understand" .... and told me how I could fix it. (I have yet to get that stuff taken care of as I'm still looking for old parts.) Anyway, I went on with my business and left my car with Lioe's (or Kenny) for the oil change and possible brakes/rotors change (yes, I've neglected my car - but only because I use the Metro more than anything). He called me a couple hours later saying that my oil change was done, I needed all 4 brakes replaced and possibly the rotors ... but wanted to make sure I was ok with all that work. If I wanted to save $$, then he recommended that I REALLY need the front brakes replaced. I agreed with doing the 2 front brakes ... Monday morning, my car was ready! Picked up the car with no hiccups and that annoying high pitched squeeling sound when braking is no longer there. Granted, I did have to replace my rotors. Oops. So an oil change, 2 brakes, 2 rotors for a little over $300 which included parts and labor. Not bad if you ask me. After that, my friend brought in her Wrangler and Ford. Lioe's is just up the street from my house. Decided to try them out when the dealership wanted an absurd amount to replace my headlight. Lioe's got me in the same afternoon and had it done within two hours! I came to realize a few weeks later that they actually replaced the wrong light but brought the car back and they replaced the correct one for FREE in just an hour. I brought my car here for a suspension clunk diagnosis. They were busy so I left it overnight. Next day I got a call saying they "couldn't find where the noise was coming from" (not that they couldn't hear the noise) even though they "re-torqued" everything to specs. They still managed to charge me $50 and told me to bring it to the dealership. Brought it to Outback Automotive and it took them a 5 minute test drive and 1 minute on the rack to find the problem. They only charged me $20. I expected better. To Lioe's: It was a white 2011 Subaru WRX brought in on the 11/04/13. Please look up the record! This is a review from someone who knows almost nothing about cars and has heard horror stories of mechanics negotiating bad faith. I found a used '00 Honda Civic from a private party that I wanted to buy. I also wanted to have a mechanic do a buyer's inspection before I bought it, but every shop was either booked three days out or not open on Saturdays. After reading all the reviews on here, I went out on a limb and decided to give Lioe's a call Saturday morning. I spoke with Kenny and he totally accommodated me, telling me to be there anytime before noon. When I asked him how much the inspection would cost, he said he would do it for FREE. This place is fantastic. It's taken forever to find a reliable, trustworthy mechanic in Seattle. Lioe's is that place. They're reliable, they're transparent, they're fast, and they're reasonably priced. We had a recurring issue for months, so the mechanics at Lioe's took our car in for a week and didn't rest until they could fully understand the issue. Once they had a holistic grasp of the situation, they came up with a solution and continuously tested it until it stopped resurfacing. This kind of service is unheard of from the average shop. I had this faint disconnection here: I love Seattle, I own a house and a business and play in bands and have several communities of amazing friends. But I didn't have any place reliable to keep the symbol of freedom in my driveway operating with integrity. Thanks to the guys at Seattle Collision Center, I got a referral to Lioe's Automotive. And after a full tune-up and a recent engine malfunction repair, I have confidence that should I be struck with the urge to ramble, my vehicle will get me wherever I'm going. 4/25/12 Update: Just to further my dissatisfaction with Lioe's Automotive: This month (only 16 months after my timing belt and water pump were supposedly changed by Lioe's), my water pump failed. The new place I went to changed my timing belt while I was in there as well. It seems highly unlikely that the water pump would only last 16 months but I'm not a mechanic... Additionally, this second water pump, timing belt, oil change, etc cost me $200 less than Lioe's - further solidifying the fact that I had overpaid for a service that was either not done or not done well. I would certainly not recommend Lioe's unless you like taking your car back for maintenance frequently and overpaying every time you go. read more

I created a Yelp account just so I could write up a review for these folks. First off, they are open on Saturday. Second, they replaced my front and rear brakes on a '01 Jimmy for $400, cheaper than anyone else I could find in town. Third, a few weeks later when my car was making a terrible shakey noise, I took it back... a couple hours later they called to tell me that something was just stuck in hubcap, and there would be no charge. I went there to get a diagnostic of my car since I've been having some issues spring up lately before trying to sell it. Initially I was intimidated on the phone by the "$85/hr flat rate" service fee, but when I arrived for my appointment I was told it would only be $25-50 for a full body diagnostic check, which was a relief. They took my car around 2:00 PM and said they'd have it ready by 5:30 PM, so I left my keys there and went on to do other business for a few hours. Around 3 I get a call saying they're already done which was surprising. I was told my brakes were at 20%, my cv rotors were cracked, and my my oil pan was leaking. Estimated cost for repair was around $880, which I ended up declining after debating with myself for a minute. Despite this, there was no pressure to have the work done and I appreciated that. In the future I'm definitely coming back here. =) read more

First time customer based on reviews I read here, and I was not disappointed. Took my own oil in for a change and lube without an appointment. Took less than an hour from drop-off to pick-up, and they apologized about the "wait". It would have been an hour before I even got into another shop with a free lift, never mind the fact that Lioe's was already overflowing with cars being worked on when I arrived. They didn't charge me for any extraneous nonsense, and kindly pointed out that my valve cover was leaking, and that I should keep an eye on it. I've lived on Beacon Hill for 10 years. The folks at Lioe's are very nice people and it felt good to support a local auto shop until they totally misdiagnosed our car several years ago. Mistakes happen, but they didn't own up to the mistake and make it all better. There was talk of needing a whole new engine, etc. We ended up bringing our car to Andy's Auto (80th and Aurora) and he was appalled at how simple of a repair was needed. We then were comfortable using Lioe's for simple jobs like oil changes until I read a review on our local email list from a man who measured the oil in his tank AFTER an oil change at Lioe's and discovered they were short changing him. I had wondered why we always needed to add oil shortly after receiving oil changes, but I've not owned many cars and didn't know any better. This made me upset and surprised to see so many positive reviews here. I will continue to bring my car to Andy's for major repairs and hopefully find a local shop worthy of the oil changes, etc. read more

After reading the reviews on here I thought I'd give Lioe's a try. BIG mistake as I was promised services that I did not receive and still charged. Do yourself a favor and go to a more respectable shop. I went and received a written price quote for a variety of services. After debating I decided to have them perform the work. Well when I went to pick up my car, they let me know they hadn't performed all the services, but still charged me the quoted price! When I questioned the charges, they argued with me for several minutes and denied quoting me a price when I had the quote in hand. When I go to a mechanic I need one I can trust. Lioe's is a family owned garage up on Beacon Hill specializing in working on imports. A friend recommended them a few years ago, and I've had my Mistubishi pick up ('92 Mighty Max) in there twice, once after another shop (Walt's) was unable to do the work/diagnose the problem. Ken at Lioe's was very knowledgeable on the phone, and the office staff is friendly and quick. Their labor rate is on the low end of the standard for mechanics, $78/hr. I've been happy with the work they've done both times, and you can actually talk with the mechanic that worked on your car. read more

I went to Lioe's when my clutch in our WRX wagon was on its last legs. All I can say is, WOW, this place is great! Very quick turn around and everyone I met was really nice and knowledgeable. Along with getting the flywheel resurfaced and a new OEM clutch installed, they performed an oil change, turned the rear rotors/replaced rear brake pads, and found a nail in my tire and fixed that too. At the end of the day, great service, great people, and a great price!! I will definitely be recommending Lioe's to friends and family and will take my car back here. read more

We were having some serious brake trouble with our '03 Outback and got it towed to Lioe's for repairs, previously just down the street from our place. Lioe's did the repairs extremely quickly and for a very fair price. I even asked if they could fix another piece that had started to come off on the front bumper and they did it for $15 while another place quoted me $100 just for that. I brought my car into Lioe's 10/16/2014. I suspected that my brakes needed changing. I dropped my car off to be worked on and they called me to say that indeed this was the case. I agreed to this service, paid the amount asked ($369.02). I received a printed receipt from Lioe's describing: 1) Front brakes 100%, Rear brakes 60-70%. And was told my car was good to go with no further verbal or written instructions for future repair notes. It is now 11/26/2014. I've noticed a loud screeching noise again coming from what I believed to be my brakes. I take it back into Lioe's to see if they can assist with finding and/or fixing the problem. They instruct me that the screeching noise is now coming from my rear brakes and that to fix it they will have to replace my rotors, calipers, and pads, and that because I "waited so long" (its been a month) to bring the car back , that it is going to cost me $760.00. I was misled to believe, just a little over a month ago, my car was in fine and safe working condition. I find it nearly impossible to believe that my brakes could go from 60-70% one month to metal on metal grinding the next. Had I been told this initially, I would have gladly paid 10/16 for my rear brakes to fixed as well as the front. I am now being charged more to fix a problem that should have already been taken care of. I did not ask for them only fix my front brakes. I asked for them to fix and replace anything that needed to be fixed concerning the brakes- for my safety- and they did not. The reason why I bring my car to a mechanic is because I lack the knowledge needed to identify or fix this problems myself. It is their job as a automotive business to tell me, the customer, what I need for my car to be safe on the road. But this didn't happen. This was done to put me in this exact situation- where I am now paying hundreds of dollars more for a service that could have been prevented only a month ago. They were totally unwilling to give me any kind of discount for their wrong doings and my inconvenience. Despite the other reviews, this place is dishonest, unprofessional, and inexperienced in their field to say the least. Lastly, as a woman I hate when I am treated differently by men in the automotive community. This place will try (and succeed) at taking advantage of you if you bring your car here. If you want to be spoken to in a condescending manner, straight up LIED to and charged exorbitant prices for their mistakes, by all means bring your automobile to Lioe's. UPDATE 10/27: The logical reason for you to not inform your customers about issues with their car is for this exact circumstance to happen. Its obvious that you care a lot more about collecting your payment than of your customers safety. You deleted my Facebook comment after you contradicted yourself by saying there was no way to predict brakes locking up. That's funny, cause I was told by your employee yesterday that I was informed 10/16 about my rear brakes being a potential problem for me in the future and that it was noted on my receipt- that was a lie. "About 2000 miles" is less than the amount of miles between oil changes. There's "no logical reason" for it to go from 60% functionality to 0% in that amount of time. It is clear that your mechanic's did not assess my brake life correctly. Which isn't a surprise considering it took them 9 hours and installing the incorrect parts on my car to identify that my car has 5 lugs instead of 4. Bad advice and ill communication has ultimately led to costing me more than I should've had to spend. If the level of customer service would have been better at the end of sale 10/16, we could have created SOME kind of dialogue among one another to help me understand that I might need to fix or keep an eye on this problem. But instead you were quick to take my payment and show me the door. It doesn't matter to me whether you are the cheapest or most expensive shop in town- do your job. That's what I'm coming to you for. Treat your customers fairly. Communication and customer service is key and clearly you lack the ability to do either. UPDATE 10/27: DO NOT work on my car any further. I want all my old parts back and for it to be returned to the original condition to the best of your ability. Writing customer satisfaction reviews are subjective. Of course, it is because customers are different. And sometimes we are not treated rightfully according to what we expect. When I made a review of this business a couple of weeks ago, there were two listed names. One was Lioe's Automotive, one was Lioe's Auto Repair but pertains to the very same enterprise. So I did the review on both. Now I got a message that one of my reviews were scrapped because of duplicity. When I checked, one of the listing, the Lioe's Auto Repair was nowhere to be found, and my review on the other was somehow filtered. I didn't know they can be filtered and only happy reviews would appear? I guess that's when somebody does a review that is not satisfactory to the owner. C'mon, not all your customers would be happy about products and services. So now, I am re-posting my very same review and with a sense of objectivity for all people to know. I brought my car, a mini-cooper because the gear won't work. After a day, they said transmission needs to be replaced. Transmission would cost $7000 plus $1500 labor costs. I couldn't afford it. So I decided to have it repaired at another shop. I called and talk to the owner and told him that I will have it towed and asked him if that's ok. He said yes. I asked him if we are good. He said yes. I called towing company but of course they will have to verify the shop if money was owed before they could do so. Surprisingly, I was told I owe something. I called shop again and asked what's wrong. Apparently, I owe them $125 for diagnostics. I got upset because I was unaware that there would be a charge to have my car checked. And in fact just had a talk with the owner a few minutes ago and I thought all was cleared up. And now it wasn't. So I went and paid up. I got no choice anyway. When paying, I commented that I'll probably return the car to the lien holder since the repair cost is more than half the amount I bought it. "Why do you have to buy it anyway?" was the owners comment. Which is a stupid thing to say. I mean, why do people buy a car? Even if you buy a Toyota, how would you know it is not gonna have a problem? What upsets me is that in all of auto shops I went to, they will let you know first (some would put it in writing) what is to be done to your car and how much before they actually do or check something. If you'll end up paying even a meager sum, THEY WILL LET YOU KNOW. And not be surprised that you will in fact owe them. When we tow the car, the tow driver and I noticed that all four special mini-cooper tire caps were missing. The driver even asked me if I'm gonna tell the shop. I said there's no use because of course, they will deny responsibility. I still called and talked to the owner and told him about it. I said I am not complaining, I am just letting him know. As expected he denied responsibility. "We didn't even touch your tires." Was all he said. Of course. My advise, they maybe good at what they do or not, I wouldn't know. But be sure to ask them how much it is gonna cost you just to have your car looked at, you maybe surprised. And be careful too, someone might take some souvenirs off your car. Additionally, the owners might want to put up a camera as well. And hopefully, no one would take out my review simply because it is not in favor of the enterprise. read more

Ah, Lioe's, sometimes I don't know how I got so lucky...... I could detail repairs and reasonable prices, but I have been coming here for 5 years and Lioe's has gotten me through many scrapes. The nice folks here ALWAYS make time to look at my car even though they are THUMPING busy at all times. And why so busy? Because they are honest, reasonably priced, nice, prompt and bust their tails for their customers. I have an ancient Corolla. A couple of years ago she was leaking oil like crazy. I thought I was going to finally have to give her a proper burial. Toyota of Seattle told me the car was done for. Seriously, the engine was covered in oil. Lioe's advised me to get the engine steam cleaned. Once I did that, they found the part that was leaking and fixed it.
