One of these days, I need to write a book about fate. Sometimes things just line up and happen. Today, I happened to find my mechanic. I've been a bad car owner. I knew I had to get new brakes for the old 4Runner, but since I almost never go anywhere and I work at home, I felt I could put off the expense for a while. Considering the first estimate came back at me for a ton of money, I wasn't eager to get the car into the shop. I eked it out as long as I could. Then last night my wife tells me she wants to drive it up to Port Townsend on Sunday so her dad can take a look at it and decide if he wants to buy it from us. It's one thing when it's just me in the truck with squeeling brakes, but when it comes to me, my wife and dogs, I had to come up with a plan PDQ. I searched Yelp and found Lioe's Automotive. Everyone raved about them, so I called and hoped they could squeeze me in today. Thankfully, they were able to! I was ecstatic! I could not believe my luck that A) I found a mechanic wiling to take me in last minute, and B) they were so close to my house. So I scooted over and my jaw hit the ground when I found out how reasonable new front rotors and brakes were, plus an oil change. Out the door, I was $100 less than the other estimate I had received. No lie. I will show you the paper trail. They're the friendliest mechanics who specialize in Toyota, but will work on anything. We've been taking our cars here for probably 15 years. Last week we took our MR2 to the emissions place and it failed so we brought it to Lioe's and they checked and it was fine. Took it back and was told it was untestable so we went to a different emissions place and was told there was a hole in the muffler. Went back to Lioe's and he checked and said the muffler was fine and hooked it up to his testing equipment and it came out very low and perfect. Decided to try one more time at the original emissions place and it passed no problem. Called Lioe's and told them and they said of course nothing was wrong with the car. Looks like the emissions places are rip offs trying to make you spend a lot of money for nothing. Lioe's didn't charge me and I got my tabs. How could I go wrong with a five-star rated Yelp place? Well, I can tell you how... Lioe's Automotive. After seeing so many positive reviews online for this place, I wanted to give Lioe's a try, HORRIBLE choice.... I took a much needed staycation after a couple super long couple months at work. I had a huge list of to-dos, on the top of my list was to get an emission test to renew my tabs. Unfortunately, my car did not pass, so I was told I would need to get it fixed. The print out from the Emissons Testing Center said that my oxygen sensors were malfunctioning, so they needed to be looked at. Agreed, the fact the oil was leaking afterward, I cannot prove it to be a result of the work. But to anyone, you could see how having your car leak after getting it repaired would be perturbing to a customer. My issue about driving 30-50 miles was the explanation, not that I had to do it. I appreciated you taking the time to try to explain the process. When I asked the mechanic (presumably, Mr. Lioe), I felt that he took offense to me asking. Since I've just paid a significant amount of money for work, I want to clearly understand the issues - that means asking a lot of questions. When I called other mechanics about the O2 sensor issue, they had told me that they would have to investigate the issue first then say they can say it's an O2 sensor. Maybe I was skewed by the other mechanics' feedback, but having the explanation that the paper from the Emission Center said it had to be, so it is, was not satisfactory. Again, this may be a communication issue. The above items, we can agree to disagree, but things that can't be disputed are: 1) After getting my car repaired the first time, my maintenance light came back on and I had to bring the car back to be looked at. 2) The maintenance light coming back on was due to an issue that was stated on the emission sheet when I first brought in the car and was not addressed or explained. 3) I was told I needed to fix my solenoid when it was not needed to pass emissions. 4) I was told my oil leak would cost at least $700 in parts and with additional tax and labor on top of that. (Yes, at this point, I didn't opt for your service. I understand I have that option) 5) I got my oil leak fixed for $650 with parts, labor, and taxes included elsewhere. To make one concession, my dad was able to get me a discount on Labor when I got the oil leak fixed, but the pure parts costs was $442 as they offered me an option for a re-manufactured part, significantly less than the $700 quoted at Lioe's. You have enough five-star reviews to counter my one-star review, but I stand by the accounts of my trip(s) to your shop. read more

I read so many things about this place being affordable. While they did a lot of necessary work on my car, I found the cost of the radiator replacement to be pretty average. They get the job done in a timely fashion, and I trust in the reliability of their work. But, I wouldn't say they've won me over for the rest of my life if I encounter another auto repair. read more

I'm so glad I chose Lioe's! I needed to have a few odd parts installed on my Jeep and Lioe's installed the parts I had already purchased the same day I dropped it off! They are so friendly, with great prices - and since it's just a short walk from the Beacon Hill Light Rail Station and they close at 6 (so much better than the places that close at 5), I'll always get my car repair work and oil changes done here from now on. (For the record, I got an estimate from another place in SoDo which was going to charge me more. I left Lioe's super happy, with an oil change, for the amount that I was quoted at the other place.) I have been taking my Subaru to these guys for 3 years now and I love them because they are honest, fast AND reasonable. How many times have you been told that your car will be done that day only to be told at 5 that it will be another day or two?! This NEVER happens at Lioe's. When I go in for oil changes, I go next door for coffee and barely get in an Americano before it's done. Ken always warns me of stuff that needs tuning up or replacement and I never feel like he's talking over me. I also love that the whole family is involved in the business - even the daughter Theresa is a gearhead! Friendly but maybe a little overpriced. I had them fix my air conditioning before a road trip to Cali and I think they could have just replaced the compressor and then purged and filled the system but they felt it was necessary to purge and fill it first which bumped up my cost by a significant amount. They are local though and I think open on Saturdays, which is nice. read more

This place is a sketchy, dirty place not keeping up with reputation it has. They put the wrong fluid in my brakes, causing the entire brake system to fail! The owner claims to have NEVER made a mistake on a car in his life and did not take responsibility for his error. BEWARE DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR Repair at Lioes at Beacon Hill (SCAM) for consumers with car problems. They never fixed the real problem. I spent 700 plus dollars and they never fixed the problem it was a totally different problem. I took it to another shop which fixed it at $186 !!! Do not take your car here. They also over priced the charges for uneeded maintainance and claim it as a "fix." NEVER again on this shop ... better to go to a dealer. Research prices before they trap you. I would not be surprised that some people that post here are promoting their own shop to market their shody work and con people to believe that they are 5 stars. Dont take your car here. read more

Yes it was told to my boyfriend, but he told the mechanic to check with me because he had no idea what was going on. He was just dropping the car. Maybe a phone call to confirm before hand would've been more clear. And yes $99/hour for labor, but it only took me and my boyfriend 15 mins to change a wireset.. So why charge a whole hour? Bad estimates and continued bad service, they never seem to be wrong! read more

I'm giving this review two stars (instead of one) because I did not actually take my car to Lioe's. I can't speak for the quality of the business's work or prices/estimates. I called Lioe's with the intention of explaining my car problem and making an appointment to drop my car off for inspection/estimate for repairs. But the conversation went horribly wrong. The person I spoke with was rude and wouldn't let me complete my sentences or explain what my last auto shop (before I moved to WA) did to fix the problem. (And no, I wasn't long-winded or blabbing for minutes.) I don't speak "car," and I'm well aware that I know nothing about fixing them. I certainly wasn't asking for a diagnosis or explanation over the phone. Nonetheless, I was stunned by their customer service. I called another auto shop afterward, and was relieved to find them both friendly and kind. Again, I did not receive an estimate or car repairs from Lioe's. They may in fact be the best repair shop in town. But trust, sincerity, and customer service are also important characteristics of a great business, and I didn't feel like I could find those at Lioe's. Maybe the guy I spoke with was having a super bad day...so I would recommend other customers to give them a call, see how they feel, and follow their instincts. read more

it was really a breath of fresh air to realize that all auto mechanics are not trying to gouge you. mr. lioe informed me that the work on my car was probably covered by 2 seperate recalls i didnt know about, and an extended warranty i didnt know about. the bill, he informed me, would be over 1K if he did the work himself. i took the car to the dealership and everything was fixed for free. mr. lioe didn't even charge me for the diagnosis of these issues. i also learned that a previous mechanic had fixed something, charged me 1400$ for it, without warning me the part may be under warranty. mr. lioe easily could have done the same. these guys are super honest. i will be back. read more

I use them mostly for oil changes, but have had other work done here too. I love that I get a phone call on service and cost before I pick up the car, including options for potential followup services if warranted (like the time they called to let me know my washer fluid had a crack), and a rundown of services received when I pick it up. Staff is nice, they can usually fit me in short notice, and I can just drop off the car before I take the bus in to work - so convenient. Unlike my dealership, they don't offer deals on oil changes etc, but the prices are fair and the convenience can't be beat, so I'll keep coming back! read more

Recommended to this mechanic by King's Transmission - now my whole family goes here (as opposed to dealerships) and we LOVE LIOE'S! They are super speedy - I can usually get an oil change down on the same day I call & it will be ready within a hour usually. They are helpful & I always trust what they recommend. The topper? We got a used 4Runner and had some engine lights come on intermittently. They suggested perhaps I needed a new gas cap. So they gave me one (free of charge) to see if that would fix the problem, and would bill me later if that was the solution. Well it was, and then I called to pay about a week or two later. NEVER GET YOUR CAR REPAIRED AT LIOE'S AUTOMOTIVE ( I HAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, REFUND AND REPAIR ISSUES!) I got my boyfriends Mazda 626 towed to Lioe's early Monday morning to be repaired. They where supposed to do a diagnostics test on the car and call me with the results later that afternoon. They then later let me know that it needed a timing belt and a alternator belt ( the parts where only $74 all together.) They quoted me a price over the telephone of $426. Being knowledgeable of the cheap pricing on the automobile parts, I explained to them that i didn't have that much money and I didn't feel like that was a fair price . He dropped the price and said he could do it for $390 all together. My boyfriend and I went to the shop the next morning at 9:00am because I thought it was ready, but I talked to one of the mechanics and he said they hadn't started on the car yet, they just got the parts in and it should be done by 1pm. I received a call back 2 hours later on my home phone at about 11am but couldn't return the call until 12noon. When I called back the shop they then informed me that my vehicle was ready. When I got to there to pay for the car he told me that it was $424 and tried to convince me that he did a bunch of extra stuff that he wasn't charging me for. I told him that I didn't have that much and we agreed to $390. On the invoice he charged me for four hours of labor ( when its clear they didn't work on it for more than two hours.) He basically just brushed me off, rushed me out of his office and told me that he wasn't gonna guarantee his work after I refused to pay more than what i was previously quoted. My boyfriend and I drove the car to his house 5 minutes away from the automotive shop and as soon as we got to his driveway the car shut off. It was doing the same thing it was doing before we had it towed to Lioe's the day before. My boyfriends father drove us back to the shop to try and see if we could compromise but he was obviously not trying to cooperate with us at all. We look at the policy signs in the office of the shop which says " Lioe's guarantees their workmanship for 90 days or 3000 miles whichever occurs first." I keep trying to reason with him about the vehicle but he is completely cutting me of in the middle of my sentences, saying "No you didn't pay for full price after taxes so you get what you paid for, theres nothing I can do for you! please take your business else where." Again my boyfriends father tried to come to an understanding with him but his ability to fail to see that he was the wrong one, he just kept trying to convince us that he didn't only provide us with horrible services but that we got what we paid for and wasn't going to refund any of our money. When I ask Mr. Frank Lioe to please inform me what came up on the diagnostic test so i could get it fixed elsewhere, he refused to get me the full results that i already paid for. We eventually gave up and came to the conclusion that we are victims of this horrible little scam and decided to report it to The Better Business Bureau. I feel like he stole my money and didn't honor the services promised under the terms of their warranties. Lioe's totally misrepresented all of his promised services and I would highly recommend staying AWAY from this hole in the wall auto shop, it's definitely not worth it in the end. read more

Mr. Lioe bailed me out this summer when another garage had led me around by my nose for 2 months repeatedly screwing up and lying about a clutch rebuild. He was able to repair the car in days! As it turned out years ago he was the original mechanic who worked on my Subaru at the Subaru dealer in downtown Seattle ( no longer there). I was overjoyed to have found someone as talented and honest. This weekend I went back to him because I had a slightly different problem. It seemed like the gearshift was loose and I don't have a clue about anything mechanical. I left the car with him and took the bus home. About an hour later he called and said the car was fixed and there was no charge! Something called bushings. I love this place! read more

I just got my 60,000 mile service done there -- plus front brake pads with oil change -- and it was waaaaay less than the estimate I was given at the chain garage (namely, Firestone). So, yeah... Ok, so this is my first review ever and it goes to Lioe's! I think I found my shop. These guys are amazing, and here's my story: I was in the market for a used Toyota Yaris under Hertz' Rent to Own program. I found one that I liked, but wanted to have a mechanic take a look at the car before I bought it. Well, I called these guys up based on the stellar Yelp reviews and spoke to Danny or Davie. They quoted me $50-75 which was quite reasonable, I brought the Yaris in to the shop and waited at a mexican cafe nearby. Well, 30 minutes later, Danny or Davie finds me at the cafe and gives me the rundown on the car. After he was done explaining in detail the issues with the car, he told me I owe him nothing! I offered again to pay, but he said there is no need. So ... I don't know what impressed me more ... the fact that he found me in the cafe or that he didn't charge me! These guys know exactly what customer service means and now I know exactly where to go! read more

It's a mom-and-pop type place. They're always super busy because they're awesome so be prepared to work within their timeframe. This doesn't mean leaving it for several days for basic repairs; it just means that you can't take it in on a saturday without notice and get it back an hour later. If that's what you want, go to jiffy lube and suffer the consequences! If you want to support a local business who take pride in their work and do it right for a reasonable price, this is the place. Every time I've been in they have taken care of my car within a reasonable time frame (I always call ahead to see when I should take it in). They offer honest pricing and they take care of business despite how busy they always seem. Five stars. EDIT: Other commenters have taken cars in for oil changes and got them back in an hour, so I shouldn't make it seem like they can't take care of jobs quickly. I probably just had a harder job and they probably have seasonal rushes that make them especially busy. Doesn't matter; these guys rock! read more
