We've never had a bad experience here before yesterday. The French fries were hard and seemed old and stale, the meat quality was bad. It was chewy and tasteless and the condiments were almost empty. My wife and I moved to Phoenix from St Louis 2 years ago. So every time we come back our first stop is Lion's Choice. I have been eating here since the mid 70's and there is nothing like it in Phoenix. Our first stop today after getting off the airplane was L.C. Since we were closest to this location, this is where we ate. I will start with the service. It was around 11:15 am so we figured it would be a good experience. The person who checked us out ( manager I think) was not very pleasant. Almost acted like it was a chore to take our order. My wife ordered a regular combo and I ordered the King. The little tray they put the food in is a good idea but the portion size is tiny. You used to get a lot more fries when they served them in the box. I'm serious, my wife had about 15 fries. I had a few more because my meal was a king but if you look at the picture that's a small fry anywhere else. The roast beef tasted old and it was very tough. So tough that when I took a bite, the bite wouldn't release and pulled the rest of the meat off the bun. There was also no flavor to the meat. I'm very disappointed as I was so looking forward to my first LC in 2 years. For how expensive it is now, they can do better. read more

Great fast food experience. I have visited this location a few times and consistently had great experiences. On my most recent visit I had a reward in the app and went in to redeem it and have a meal. Service was fast and friendly. The cashier immediately asked if I had the app/rewards and used my phone number to access my account and apply the reward. I was ordering something different than my "usual" and the employee was helpful in explaining the difference in the sized of roast beef sandwiches. I ordered the King Beef - worth it for the extra roast beef, and fries. I ended up splurging on a mini dip cone when I left. These are well worth the price and always delicious! The meals continue to get smaller and are inconsistently seasoned/sauced. The place is clean and organized and stocked when we visit which is nice but the inconsistency in the value of the food makes us avoid the location. $39 for 3 sandwiches (1 a kids meal), 2 fries, and 2 drinks and then have it be poor quality is unfortunate. read more

This was our first stop when we got into St. Louis. My husband and his family used to come here all the time so of course we had to introduce the kids to it. We opted to drive through since both kids were sleeping so I can't speak to the inside, but the outside is a nice clean white wash brick with a giant red loins choice signage. We ordered the OG roast beef sandwiches, fries, and sweet teas all around. The meat is super seasoned packed with lots of flavor. I will say when we came here almost 10 years ago. The serving sizes were much larger, but even still today. It's still a good big meal. The kids said it was the best "steak" they've ever had. Probably keep the traditional live of stopping by anytime we come through for fast food. It's pretty yummy. read more

I've never been to nor heard of Lion's Choice before. I spotted the sign across from the hotel and stopped in for a quick lunch. I ordered the king roast beef. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The meal was prepared before I could pour my diet coke at the drink machine. The first thing I noticed was that the roast beef was fresh, but very rare. I don't like my meat rare and usually request medium well, but I understand the proper preparation of roast beef. The meat tasted good and was a little too salty. The size of the sandwich was small when comparing to a large roast beef at Arby's. The fries were fries, nothing special. I liked the various self-serve dipping sauces ranging from ketchup, horseradish, to tangy BBQ. The meal was $10.25 which included a large drink. How is Lion's Choice compared to Arbys? I grew up with Lion's Choice and Rax Roast Beef. Rax is long gone, but of course now Arby's is a well known competitor as a roast beef restaurant. In my opinion, Lion's Choice is WAY better then their competition. The roast beef is made fresh daily and sliced when you order. The fries are the best around! The turkey sandwiches are good too. The sauces and au jus are nice compliments to the meat. This location was recently renovated and looks very nice. It was a much needed update. Terrible service. They forgot a sandwich in my order last week, I called immediately and they said I had to come back in person to receive the sandwich or a refund for the sandwich. It took me a week to get back there and although I received my money back and an apology I am very irritated that I even had to go back in person for this to happen. My name was on the receipt as I went inside. Additionally, how about compensation for the inconvenience of not having my sons sandwich that night or gas and time it took to go back for the refund? I few weeks ago we went to DQ and got a burger. They changed their buns, and they were like a Brioche bun with No sesame seeds. Ruined the burger. Today went to Lions Choice and got a couple of Roast Beef Sandwiches. I unwrapped my sandwich and was shocked to see a cheap looking bun with no sesame seeds. Fast food, but a little better by fresh sliced roasted meat & plenty of dipping sauces for free. The problem is it at best a dine-in experience due to getting & using dipping sauces. There is also a onion, pickle & hot pepper tray for the sandwiches. I was happy with the amount of drink selection, also (including flavored water). There is no wow factor, however. So in trying to make my world a better place I recently have been trying to eat in a more healthy way. Luckily Lions Choice has made this just a little bit easier. They use all un-treated or modified beef without Nitrates/Nitrites and don't add any dies or artificial flavors. you can get a New whole wheat bun that has a really great texture to it no butter on the bun and no salt. I prefer a little seasoning so I do add some, but I like that they actually have a good option not just the basic "this is the way we do things" mentality. I also have been getting their side Salads and they are pretty good, not the best I have had but good. I think the salad dressing is not the best ingredient-wise but heck its fast food. I realize that this is a fast food joint and that yes its not the best for a healthy meal but at least they give you options and I don't have to feel bad about read more

When one is choosing a quick stop for a fountain drink the choices are many in this area especially with QT just down the street, however I choose to stop in at Lions Choice and pay a quite a bit more for my drink just because their fountain DP is always the right mix. My low rating is due to customer service........the window attendant was pre-occupied with something other than me at the time. If you like dry, overcooked, brown meat then this is your go to place! This place went from one extreme to the other. I stopped eating here for many years because I was served extremely bloody roast beef that turned the entire bun red with blood. Then upon recent visits the meat is always overdone and brown with a nasty taste. Compare my picture from today with the picture on the website and see for yourself. If you want a proper Lion's Choice sandwich go to the O'Fallon location, the roast beef has been cooked properly at that location every time I have been. Very disappointing! read more

I would sell a sliver of my soul to have Lion's Choice in Kansas City. Usually, I make it a point to hit Lion's Choice every time I go to St. Louis. It is hands down the best fast food roast beef, and dare I say, the best roast beef sandwich you can get ANYWHERE. There, I said it. Let that sink in for a minute. The meat is real (unlike certain competitors), and is cooked medium rare (though you're welcome to order it more done if you'd like and they're happy to oblige). The seasoning and butter toasted buns are heaven. While the Au Jus and horseradish sauce are perfectly acceptable, my preference is to apply a generous amount of honey mustard (ask for at least 2x honey mustards per large sandwich). Note that bypassing the mediocre fries for the higher quality baked potato is always the right choice if you must have carbs, but it's perfectly acceptable to just get 2 large sandwiches plus a pink lemonade and call it a fine meal.
