Once upon a time I was a raw vegan. Then after two years I went to the dark side and started eating things cooked above 118 degrees. Although I've dropped the "raw," I remain a vegan who still enjoys the occasional raw vegan experience. On a short trip to Baltimore, I took the water taxi to Fells Point and walked through the cute cobbled-street town on a mission to find Liquid Earth. Entering the restaurant, I felt a familiar energy and atmosphere that most vegan restaurants have: artsy, slightly hippie, color on the walls, cool furniture, and a friendly staff. This place actually serves vegetarian, cooked vegan and raw vegan. I ordered: - Raw Vegan Pizza: flax seed crust with marinara sauce, nut cheese, stacked with zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and bell peppers. It looks small but surprisingly filling! How many veg restaurants have sandwiches, smoothies, salads and juices? Many. How many veg restaurants separate out the raw from the cooked? A few. How many separate the raw smoothies from the other smoothies? I don't know of any others except this place - cool! However, there is no marking system on the menu for what is vegan or gluten-free. Fret not! Ask your waiter, and you will find out easily. Besides, everything here can be made vegan - it's really just the cheese that makes items (sammies) non-vegan. The gluten issue can easily be resolved by.... umm... choosing salads, appetizers and beverages, as well as the raw items? When dining here, do yourself a favor and order juice first, then food, and if lucky, have room for a smoothie dessert! There are so many choices though, so be ready to dedicate some focused time to figure out what you want. Nachos? Sandwich? Raw entree? I am drooling thinking about the food here. The salads are so beautiful, smoothies so tasty... And I like that there are nachos! Staff here are on point with the menu items and ingredients. It is a cozy cafe that has all hands on deck working to make your juice and orders. So you know it's freshly prepared. The place smells like a home kitchen creating meals one dish at a time- good portions, quality ingredients and satisfying flanked. 4 * for the food, 2 * for the service. The menu has a mix of vegetarian options, from tacos, to burgers, to sandwiches. My husband went with the mushroom/bean burrito which was spicy and quite delicious. The burrito was laid on a bed of greens which I was in the middle of eating when our waitress took the plate away. I'm not sure if she thought we were done, or if she was just being rude, but it really rubbed me the wrong way. I had a portobella mushroom sandwich which was pretty good. The sandwich was filled with mushrooms, some cheese, avocados, and alfalfa. Overall the food was good, but I'm not sure I would return because of the service. Smoothies are solid but the workers are a joke. I walked in to order a smoothie for the second straight day. On this rainy day I purchased a smoothie full of veggies,leaving a tip. The employee asked me it was to go. I said, "sure." After receiving my drink I sat at a table near bye and started to enjoy it. Suddenly the worker appeared by my side pointing at my Starbucks rudely said ,"you need to take that out of here. Outside drinks are not allowed. ". I preceded to take the last few sips and then looked for a garbage. Afterwards I went back to my drink and he then said in a aggressive manner he said, " YOU ORDERED IT TO GO SO YOU NEED TO LEAVE. YOU SAID TO GO". I answered, "On a rainy day I can't drink my drink I just purchased in your store?" With not another soul in the restaurant and 5 tables open he replied, "I can't have you taking up a table top! You need to leave!" I walked out feeling attacked. I don't get it. I'd recommend going somewhere else if you feel like a vegan meal. That is if you want to be treated with any respect. I was offended and mentioned it to a neighboring restaurant and they informed me that the owners and workers are known as Nasty. They lost by business. I've been coming here for quite a few years, maybe even before being vegan was a "thing ". The Reuben Sandwich, Earth Burger and Veggie Burger are all personal favorites, with the Veggie Burger being my top pick. You can almost feel the nutrients being absorbed into your body. Not impressed with this place. You wouldn't think you can mess up a salad but of course it was boring and this was my second time here. I enjoyed the salad better at sweet green and I promice never to return to this place again. There was a terribe stench and it almost made me gag but I was told it was the tofu making needless to say they need to do this when customers are not there. read more

For our last meal in Baltimore we wanted to try out another Vegan place that was recommended to us. Liquid Earth it was! We started off with two shots, wheatgrass and ginger. Love me some ginger, juiced fresh! For lunch we decided on the Earthburger and a Sacred Salad. My mom loved the Earthburger, which was made with brown rice, textured soy, and fresh herbs and seasonings. She added vegan cheese which melted perfectly. The Sacred Salad was very good! I'm a caper lover so I loved the fact that this salad had capers and it was presented beautifully. Before leaving from the restaurant to the airport we got a vegan oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Let's say right from the door that I WILL NEVER BE BACK. EVER. So, we walk into an establishment where we are greeted by a young server who was actually very nice. However, the lady behind the counter and older gentleman looking as though he was a member of the Grateful Dead, behind the bar/prep area just stared as though my family was an inconvenience. THEY NEVER SPOKE. JUST CASUALLY STARED! This broke my heart because we had traveled from Philadephia to visit this establishment as an outing. My excitement turned into a major disappointment. I often travel to Baltimore on business or personal outings and was trying something new. The Land of Kush is usually my go-to place. I am always treated wonderfully there. The restaurant's esthetics are dark and eclectic including the wooden floors and furnishings. It boarded 'unkept' and odd in some areas. it could definitely use a clean and brightening. The sad thing is the food was is delicious and very 'clean.' I enjoyed a very fresh juice with green apples and ginger called the Ginger Zinger. I adored the way that they served it in a Pyrex container which I thought was ingenious because it actually lets you see the amount that you were paying for! In terms of serving sizes, you actually see that you are getting at least two times that amount. I had the raw taco which was two romaine leaves within two collard leaves. The leaves are filled with seasoned nut meat, sliced avocado, tomato, and white onion. There is a cashew sour cream on top...DELICIOUS! read more

They were closed from 2-3pm and I arrived at 3pm waited an extra 25 min for them to finally open without an explanation. I didn't complain because stuff happens and I wanted to try the food, plus it's hard finding good vegan spots. My food was good but sadly I found a very long hair in my drink and didn't realize it until it was almost finished, so grossed out I went to the bathroom only to find what looked like a mouse turd stuck into the side of the toilet paper roll.. even more grossed out I went outside and threw up. I was a little confused by their hours on their website but called and got lucky, they were open. Cute, inside similar to many restaurants in Fells.. lots of character and warm but small. Staff was very inviting. I ordered the portabella sandwich and miso soup and both were very good! Soup was a little low on salt, but not in a bad way and had a nice dark break for a side. The sandwich was larger than I though it was going to be and really good! The entire menu looks really good and I definitely want to come back and try more of the menu! Amazing flavorful food that is sometimes missing at some vegetarian places. Club sandwich had a lot of veggies including sprouts which I love, avocado, tomatoes all complimented by vegan mayo, and savory tofu bacon on wheat bread. Chicken cheese phake was huge! And satisfying with provolone and shaved "chicken." Also includes plenty of veggies on a yummy healthy wheat baguette. I ate half the sub and was so full and satisfied. Rueben was simple yet delectable, no veggies on the sandwich but the simplicity is better that way for this sandwich. Get your veggies on the side. There are so many other sandwiches and yummy things to try- a rice bowl, bean burrito, and burger is next on our list. Can't wait to go back. My husband loved the fresh juices/smoothies - he said his kale, beet, carrot, spinach juice was excellent quality compared to most places. He also liked his miso beef soup. Friendly client service. Had a Sunday lunch with a friend at Liquid Earth after a long bike ride. For starters, I do love Liquid Earth's interior. They somehow have managed to capture a part cabin-like, part forest-like vibe while still being very tidy and allowing for a fair amount of natural light. I ordered the Rueben, and my friend had the portobello sandwich. We shared the two and were not disappointed. I was especially impressed with the Rueben and Liquid Earth's ability to mimic meat with the thinly-sliced seitan. I would most definitely get the Rueben again! My only complaint doesn't concern the food quality or service but the menu itself: if you don't want a sandwich or salad, there aren't too many options for mains. Sure, there is a burrito and a couple other options, but these options are far from original. Although the sandwiches I had during this visit were great, I have been to Liquid Earth in the past and ordered other sandwiches (i.e., Philly cheesephake) and have felt like I was served a huge portion of unhealthy food: while the cheesephake might be made with vegan or vegetarian ingredients, it was still enormous and oily and defeated my purpose of going to a "healthy restaurant." With nearby chains like Honeygrow and Sweetgreen, I feel like Liquid Earth could expand into the market of healthy bowls and attract customers of these chains (myself included) who want something healthy but table service. Came here for lunch. Ordered a black bean burrito. Found a bug in my food after I ate half of my burrito and was putting it in a to go box. You can see wings and legs on the insect. Alerted our waiter and he said he couldn't see what it was. He took plate and came back after couple minutes. Liquid Earth is a very strange combination of things: It looks like a bar, but in place of alcohol you get your blended healthy smoothies (or coffee and chocolate if your'e me). It's could be your local coffee joint, but what coffee place has a menu that extensive? It screams out hipster, yet the family swinging in after karate class can make themselves at home for a snack. Mostly though, Liquid Earth is one of a few places to get some solidly good vegan/vegetarian food. Okay - you're not "that type". You think Tofu is "Gross" and Kale is a four letter word for hippie. However, you're also on Yelp, so you're adventurous - so I'm going to implore you to take some time to check this place out. You don't need to give up eating meat (have you seen my reviews - I'm clearly not) but for a lot of reasons, having a few vegetarian meals a week is a really good thing (both for you and the planet). To prove that vegetarian meals can be a) tasty and b) filling - this is the place to start. Tofu - let's examine that. Tofu by itself is gelatinous, flavorless (at best), and really unappealing. However, it's also an amazing blank pallet to turn into a variety of things. Case in point at Liquid Earth: The pulled tofu sandwich. A roll piled high with "pulled" tofu, and drenched in some of the best BBQ sauce you'll ever have, then topped with coleslaw - this is a real winner for first time Vegan fare. The individual, thin, slices of tofu are lightly crisped on the edges, adding some much needed texture. The seasoning, both from the tofu and the sauce, is carried over really well. Liquid earth's menu is filled with options like this. Flip the page and find some great smoothies for desert. Go healthy and adventurous, or go for a caffeine/sugar rush with a mocha smoothie. read more

The smoothie and cookie I had the other week were so good that I had to return for some of the actual food items! I called ahead and ordered take-out. Food was ready in a timely manner and the staff was again, very nice. I ordered the black bean burrito and an apple lemonade. Both were so good! The Black bean burrito is the bees knees!! It's somewhat flattened, almost similar to a super loaded quesadilla. I ate half and saved the rest for my better half! He loved it as well! So simple yet soooo tasty! And I could really taste the freshness of the accompanying salsa! Lots of color and variety. The salsa was a bit spicy, just like how the BF likes it. The burrito made for a great lunch. And I've always shied far, far away from vegetarian/vegan cuisine, mainly because I was under the (mistaken) impression that it would just taste downright awful. I remembered my positive experience at The Land of Kush, so I thought, "it can't be that bad". Little did I know how good it actually can be. I have been properly SCHOOLED, especially if all of Liquid Earth's food is as good as what I had. I chose the Sacred Submarine (half sized), along with a side of vegan Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese honestly just tasted like cold pasta salad to me - but DELICIOUS cold pasta salad. It was tart and yet creamy at the same time, with goodish chunks of peppers sprinkled about. And the Sacred, indeed, tasted sacred! I particularly loved the mushroom pieces interacting with the peppers and pickles - very vinegary and refreshing to the palate. Gah, was it good! I didn't try any drinks, but I will next time I return - and I WILL return. Prices were reasonable, considering everything is made from scratch and with fresh ingredients. I've certainly paid more money for less quality in the past, so I'm not sure where the complaints about cost are coming from. Service was good. Not hovering, but not standoffish either. The interior of Liquid Earth is both spacious and cozy, with tables lining the brick walls and a counter area with about 6 barstools facing the open kitchen. I'd walked in just as one of the employees was dropping fresh veggies on the grill, and the smell of the place was mouth watering. Overall? Liquid Earth gets an 'A' for ambiance. The menu includes a long list of creative veggie and vegan dishes, including a raw menu and a huge smoothie list. I ordered the Picnic Sandwich (thick whole grain baguette, melted brie cheese, apples, pears, red onion, and a drizzle of honey mustard) and sat at the counter to watch my food being made. This is not the place to go if you like meat/cheese. It is the place to go if you like getting goji berries sprinkled on lettuce and getting charged $15 for it. Really. $15 for vegan tacos. You can buy a cow for that much. And a grinder. You can grind your own beef for that much. The food was good, don't get me wrong. I was looking for a vegan restaurant in the Baltimore area and found this wonderful place at Fellspoint. Their ginger and lemon tea was just what I was looking for. It had the strong ginger taste that I often crave for and it was perfect! I had miso soup and their delicious raw burger. If you thought that a vegan burger wouldn't fill you up, you are wrong. Yelp Liquid Earth When I first was introduced to LE, I was big into juices, specifically ones that used good quality, fresh vegetables and fruits. I was not disappointed (in face I was delighted!) at the quality experienced on that visit from the customer service, to the food preparation, and to the recipes and overall execution! I started off with a hearty juice mixed my favorite veggies to juice: primarily beets & kale, and other assorted fruits and veggies. I did also try a LE club sandwich and that was the surprise hit! It quickly became apparent that the excellent ingredients used in the juice applied to the entire menu, from their appetizers and soups to the amazing vegetable and "hey, that tastes just like meat" vegan sandwiches! Other if my favorites include the Not Ham Sandwich (which may not be exactly ham, but just as tasty!) the vegan Reuben (and this does taste like any gooooood Reuben should) and the black bean burrito. Portions are more than satisfying (the avocados are always served fresh and a copious amount is given) , even for big appetites, so we enjoy sharing an appetizer/soup and 2-3 sandwiches and end up taking the ample left overs home to enjoy the next day.
