Very cute little bake shop. Best to take w you. Some seating outside. Very friendly & helpful staff. Beautiful display cases and cake pedestals, treats under glass. Every type of confection one dreams of: cookies, pie, cakes, muffins, cupcakes, woopie pies (it's a New England thing), scones, bars, etc. we tried the "devil dog", lemon bar, and a few types of cookies. Our favorite was the devil dog: rich creamy center in between moist ultra rich dark chocolate cake. So good! Solid variety of better teas & good coffee too. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. First, they don't deliver wedding cakes!?! Then don't make wedding cakes. That's the stupidest thing I've heard from a bakery. Second, this was a three tier cake. You literally can not see the differentiation between the base layer and the second tier. The rosettes were not uniform or cleanly arranged. This literally looks like a five year old piped frosting on this cake...it was terrible and they should be embarrassed this left their shop. Finally, the buttercream was not buttercream. It was crisco and confectioners sugar. It was terrible, as well as, you could taste and smell that this case was sitting in a cooler for some time. It had absorbed some flavors from whatever was in the cooler with it. I don't recommend this bakery....for any occasion!! Stay away!! read more

In my opinion, Lis makes a better red velvet cupcake than Sugar Bakery & Sweet Shop. Who is that you say? Sugar Bakery & Sweet Shop is a bakery in East Haven that recently won an episode of "Cupcake Wars" on the Food Network. Lis' red velvet cupcakes are more dense, heavier, and have a less sugary frosting. That's a winner to me. I'll have to try some of her other treats. read more

Stumbled across this place while on vacation in Mystic, CT in early summer 2010. The homemade devil dogs are "so good, it will make you want to slap yo' momma". The store itself is rather small, but they have all their wares displayed in glass cases for your viewing (and choosing) pleasure. I suspect it might get crowded if you are there during peak hours, but I was not. Nice little seating areas outside, by the water. Definitely stop here if you are in the area, you will not be disappointed (unless you are diabetic). A 2.5 star establishment. read more

Delicious. I had to try them after reading Joe C's review & was not disappointed. Yes, the red velvet cupcakes are phenomenal. I also like their lemon blueberry which I usually get & share with my son. The texture & flavor are just amazing. I haven't had frosting as tasty as theirs anywhere else. The shop is cozy & small. There's a patio area out front but I prefer to take my cupcakes to the park & watch the boats go by. I've only tried the cupcakes but everything they offer looks pretty decadent. That moment you post pics of your cinnamon roll from vacation and literally drool looking at it. That never happens. Tons of cinnamon goo and their bagel was good too. Two words: Devil dog. It is fan-freakin'-tastic! This is a great, little bake shop with all sorts of scrumptious-looking treats. We split the devil dog, which is a gigantic whoopie pie of dense chocolate cake sandwiching buttercream with a resounding vanilla flavor. Mmm...a classic choice that was perfectly executed. Very tiny adorable shop just off the main drag in downtown Mystic. While I have been a highly satisfied, never discriminating consumer of their cupcakes for years, I'd never been in for anything else. I had a very yummy egg sandwich on an onion bagel, fresh egg and bacon, and toasted but soft bagel. We got a selection of cupcakes for later (birthday cake, double chocolate, vanilla with chocolate and carrot cake - which is to DIE for) and a cinnamon bun (which we forgot about and ate it the next day, I would recommend asking them to warm it up if you get one in the shop. The inside of the shop is quite tiny, but they have a cute little area out side to sit eat and enjoy the boats on the river. *pro-tip: if you can't find parking on the street in front of the shop you could park on church street. Also if you're just planning on grabbing breakfast and running you could park in the engine room lot, since they aren't open in the day time. read more

This is my favorite bake shop I've ever been too (and this is coming from a born and bred New York City girl!!!) Where do I even start? I spent the summer in mystic so I got to spend a lot of time in here and try everything. In winter, the bake shop is a cozy, inviting getaway. No better spot to sip on hot coco and enjoy some warm cookies while watching the snow fall. In warmer days, the bake shop becomes a beach-vibes oasis, open, sunny, and the happiest little place in CT. The flowers outside the shop are always beautifully chosen and arranged and there's nothing like sitting at the tables outside, barefoot, over looking the wharf and enjoying a morning coffee and breakfast sandwich :) Every time you go in its like a family reunion. Lisa, the owner, is a LITERAL angel and so are all the girls who work there. They will greet you like family upon entry and it seems as if the bake shop door is always open to welcome new and old friends, and family. You won't ever get tired of stopping in and saying hi to everyone!! Now for the most important part: the dessert!!!!! I can't name one thing I don't love, and I've yet to find better dessert in the city. Love cookies? Go on in and get a cookie warmed up (my fave is salted caramel) and you will be hooked for life. Needed a little pick me up after walking around Mystic all afternoon. Tried a hazelnut latte and a flourless oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. Both were really good. I had an appointment down here today and had not eaten breakfast yet. I looked for a good bagel spot and this spot came up third, I checked out some of the reviews and photos. After reading the 5 star reviews on yelp, I made an effort of fitting it into my schedule of places to visit. Yes, it's a cute little shop with cupcakes, brownies, etc, but did it taste good? It was just okay for me. There was no wow -- this is yummy, more like I can't believe this is what other people were raving about. I had the lemon bar which sadly was not amazing. Way too sweet. It's lemon, it's supposed to be tart! It somewhat reminded me of the cheap lemon pies at the supermarket. My friend had a mint brownie or something, he thought I wanted to try it. My friend has a sweet tooth, loves chocolate and he couldn't finish it. Was too sweet for him, which has never happened before. I've made better brownies from a box for much cheaper! Just last week I went to a pastry shop near my house and bought a lemon bar just to compare. OMG, not only was it cheaper, it was slightly tart and delicious! What an adorable little place tucked away, off the main drag in Mystic. All of the treats look so yummy! We were just poking around wasting some time before meeting a friend for lunch, and we walked passed here. Couldn't resist ducking in and checking it out. Fresh, delicious coffee. Scrum-diddly-umptious cupcakes. The perfect combo for strolling alongside Mystic River. Bagels, mochas, iced drinks, biscotti... it's everything I ever crave while wandering downtown. The blueberry lemon cupcakes and the carrot cake are amaaaaazing. Seriously, five A's amaaaaazing. Lisa, the owner, is very welcoming and sweet. She often works in a little area right behind the counter. I love seeing all the ingredients and fresh baked goodies being assembled. It feels like she's baking just for you... especially since the small store can only hold a few people at a time. There are some tables and chairs where you can sit and enjoy your goodies. It's a perfect downtown Mystic pit stop. The prices are great too! A very good candidate for my future wedding cake and a definite go-to spot for other special dessert occasions. I needed a last-minute cupcake order for my sister-in-law's baby shower. After scouring the reviews on yelp, we settled on Lis for our baking needs... Wow. Not only was Lis super helpful in figuring out my order, but the cupcakes were simply outstanding. My uncle in NJ proclaimed them as "the best chocolate cupcake he's ever had". The red velvet in my opinion were the real winners, as the cupcakes' frosting to cake ratio were perfectly balanced, and the cake flavoring just right. I absolutely love, love, love the treats from this place! The vanilla vanilla cupcake is the best I've ever had- moist vanilla cake with perfect amount of frosting. I have also tried their devil dog, which is just as good- moist devils food cake with a light and fluffy vanilla filling. The flavor in the sweets is above anything I have had anywhere else. The coffee is very good as well- good selection to choose from. The patio area outside is the perfect place to enjoy your treats and the staff was pleasant and patient while I stared at the treats in the case. The icing was thick and creamy but the cake was dry and overall the entire cupcake didn't taste very much like pistachio. It was an average cupcake, nothing to write home about and especially when compared to true cupcakes like Magnolia's not even worth your time. We were making the long journey to NYC, and on my mission to find delicious croissants, I decided this would be our breakfast place. It's in the heart of downtown Mystic, which is so charming and cute. There is much more to mystic than the seaport or aquarium, and I would love to go back to explore. The cafe is right on the water, literally with docks right outside, and opens up to the beautiful harbor. There is a parking lot, and some outdoor seating. The bake shop itself is very small, and after being there, I realized it was more of a to-go/ catered food spot, than a cafe.
