The gentleman who helped me was clearly a lover of instruments (you could tell by the way he handled it respectfully and lovingly) and very knowledgeable of their virtues, idiosyncrasies, and value! I will always send people here and return myself if I have any questions or need service for the family's instruments.

I personally like that they are open later than most local violin shops and have what we need. My son needed his violin to be serviced and since the other local violin shop that I initially bought it from closed early for some reason, we figured we had nothing to loose and stop by here. We were greeted by an employee and informed him that the violin needed to be restrung, and after a couple of minutes after playing on their beautiful piano, admiring the cool guitars and shaking the colorful maracas, we were informed that the violin was fixed, however it was only temporary since they were not able to provide the full service that we needed and suggested another local violin shop for that service. The best part, we were not charged! Like who does that nowadays!?? Mind you, they don't service instruments. I appreciated the associate's service very much, he did not have to be so kind and desperately help us out when my son needed his violin fixed by the next day. I have nothing but great things to say about Music and Arts, they truly have great quality employees and a wide variation of instruments and knowledgeable employees. I am happy to come here anytime for any of my music needs!v

Taking my children to Bach to Rock is nothing but a wonderful experience every single time for kids…read moreand parents alike. We found this gem amid the pandemic and my children have attended toddler classes, school age private lessons as well as many rock band camps during school vacations or the summer. At the camps, us parents get to enjoy a live show and get a recording from their band at the end of the week. My son even did his birthday party there and everyone got a professional recording of their performance too. They even help with goodie bags! They always want to come back to the "young and fun" staff (their words, not mine) and Caroline runs all the programs so well and is so kind. They even performed at a neighborhood festival for free and gave out prizes to the kids, everyone in our neighborhood loved it! I will continue to take my kids here as they get older, especially since there's so many different programs that they can try. You can even have a free initial trial so you don't need to sign up for something your kids won't want to do. Highly recommend for all parents who want to introduce music in a fun refreshing way!

They…read morewere skilled, professional, and respectful, and the programs themselves seemed well organized. My kids enjoyed their lessons and the teaching quality was solid. Unfortunately, my experience with the owner/manager within the first two weeks was disappointing. I enrolled two of my three daughters--one in guitar and one in piano. Scenario 1: On the day of our first lesson, my oldest daughter (the guitar student) had just been to the doctor and received multiple shots in her arm. She was in pain and physically unable to hold or play a guitar. I called ahead to ask about rescheduling and was reminded of their strict 24-hour cancellation policy. The only alternative offered was a Zoom lesson, which didn't address the issue since she couldn't play at all. I brought both kids in anyway and spoke directly with the owner/manager (Caroline). She reiterated that the policy exists to ensure instructors are paid for reserved time. When I asked if there were any exceptions for situations like medical issues, she said no and added that she has run the business for 20 years and that other parents are fine with the policy. I asked a hypothetical question--if we were in a car accident on the way to a lesson, would the policy still apply? She confirmed that it would and the money paid for the spot will not be refunded nor the lesson rescheduled as a make up. I used the car accident e.g. because we were involved in one about 3 months ago. Scenario 2: The following week, I brought all three of my daughters because I didn't have childcare for my 5-year-old. While I was finishing paperwork, my youngest followed her sister into the guitar lesson room. As I went to sit in on the lesson, Caroline stopped me and explained that it was against policy for an unregistered student to be in the room. I clarified that my 5-year-old would simply sit quietly on my lap and not participate. Despite this, Caroline maintained that it wasn't allowed due to "insurance reasons." She confirmed that I could sit in on the lesson--but my 5-year-old (an "unregistered student" as she referred to her) could not be in the room. That left me with the choice of either leaving my child unattended in the lobby or standing outside the room. We ended up standing in the hallway and watching through the glass. As a parent, I prefer to be present during lessons so I can better support my kids' progress at home. This situation made that difficult. Outcome: The day after scenario 2 occurred, I received a call from Caroline informing me that both of my daughters were being disenrolled because I seemed unhappy with their policies. To be clear, my concern wasn't just the policies themselves--it was the lack of situational awareness and the unwillingness to have a reasonable, human conversation - life happens. The repeated emphasis on "policy" without any attempt at understanding the circumstances made the experience frustrating. The irony of this all is that I had sorted out an arrangement for my 5yr so I don't have to take her with me to subsequent lessons per the "Almighty Policy". While the instructors were excellent, the customer service experience literally drove us out.

This review is ONLY for renting instruments and a few minor repairs. I have NOT bought an…read moreinstrument from Fishburn, therefore, I cannot comment on the process, price, or value-for-money of an instrument. MOST IMPORTANT: The employees are EXCEPTIONAL! They are knowledgeable, and if they don't know, they will find out for you. I have always had great service from them (even though I can be snippy at times). Please be patient with them if you want them to be patient with you. I have rented 3 instruments (1 violin and 2 cellos) from Fishburn. I rented a 1/8 violin from Fishburn 3+ years ago for my son. I highly recommending instruments for growing children or for adults that are just "trying" out an instrument. Fishburn has a great rent-to-own program where you pay a monthly price and this money counts towards you owning an instrument once the price of the instrument is paid out. I love this program. Here are some of my experiences with renting. Renting: Fishburn has different tiers of rental (the higher the quality of instrument, the more money you pay for rental). When I first rented the 1/8 violin, I though, "hey, my kid is just beginning, he doesn't need an expensive rental". I was wrong. All great musicians start out as a beginner, beginners matter. Rent the best that you can afford. A higher quality instrument will be easier to play, better on the ears when practicing (doesn't sound like someone is torturing a cat), and make your kid feel better about him/herself, therefore, making that kid want to practice more. I wish the people at Fishburn would have informed me about this aspect of renting, I would have rented the higher quality instrument first instead of renting el cheapo, then having to come back and trade-up. That being said, the higher priced rental instrument is worth it. I know that they probably source their instruments overseas. I just want to say, the cheap 1/8 violin is REALLY bad. We are now at the 3/4 size, higher quality instrument, and it sounds so amazing. I know Fishburn didn't make the 1/8 violin-shaped-atrocity, but maybe consider sourcing from a better place? With all this being said, yes, PLEASE consider renting from them! Their rental prices are very fair. During renting, they also will clean, repair, and replace strings, bows, etc. for you free of charge. Once we paid out the price of the violin, we own it and no longer have to pay the monthly rental charge. This was automatic and I didn't have to go in and remind them. This was very nice. When my kid out-grew his violin, I just took it in and they swapped it for a larger one, no additional cost! I'm sure if you wanted/needed a higher quality violin, you would have to pay for the difference. This is understandable. Once you own the violin though, YOU are responsible for paying for repairs and services. Repairs and services: I had to re-hair a 3/4 bow. The re-hair price is almost the cost of a new bow. I decided to re-hair instead of buying a new one because my kid will grow and what am I going to do with a 3/4 violin bow? If you have a full-sized bow, maybe having two bows would be useful. The luthier did call me and we spoke about the re-hair vs buying another one. I greatly appreciate her time and her concern. In the end, we re-haired and she did an awesome job. I have also brought my cello in to reshape the bridge, and change the strings. All repairs were done in a timely manner and they are good at keeping you abreast of timelines to manage your expectations. They are good at exceeding timelines, but things happen sometimes. We have all been there. Side note: When I first rented a 1/8 cello for my daughter, this had to be special-ordered. There was a mix-up somewhere and the cello did not come on time. Mr. Fishburn called me himself to apologize. In the end, we had a pleasant conversation. It's a 1/8 cello, there are a million other things that are more important. Final verdicts: Rent from Fishburn: Yes! Or at least, give them a chance and try it out. Repair at Fishburn: I have only done minor repairs so YES! For large repairs like big cracks in instruments, I do not have experience so I cannot comment.

Bad customer service. I have been a customer of this company's cello rental program for the past…read morethree years and had a positive experience until now, which makes this situation especially disappointing. I recently tried to rent another cello for my younger child, but due to issues with the store's process, the rental was never finalized and we were unable to receive the instrument despite waiting for quite some time. However, my card was still charged twice. It has now been about a week, and I still have not received the refund or any proactive update regarding the status. I eventually had to call the store myself twice, only to be told by the store manager that I should contact the corporate office directly. I understand that mistakes and system issues can happen, but I was disappointed with how the situation was handled afterward. Since the duplicate charges and unsuccessful rental were not caused by anything on my end, I would have expected the store to take ownership of the issue, communicate with corporate internally if necessary, and keep me updated until the refund was completed--instead of asking me to resolve it myself.
