Had guests visiting and wanted to take them out for a special night. What a disappointment! And kind of scary. Most importantly, we felt that the server was not understanding a serious allergy issue. When we raised it at the front, we expected someone to come over and discuss the concerns and let us know it was handled; instead, they sent the original server to the table. She was defensive and mad that we had raised the concern. Soo, we still did not feel super comfortable. Also, there were issues with the drinks -- the server did not know what a Negroni is. We had to adjust to simpler drinks. My lobster cobb was the wrong size when it was brought out; instead of telling me this, the server took it away from me and brought it back to the kitchen. She then came back and told me the kitchen had messed up and did I want the larger size. By that time, our table was already well into their meals, and it would have taken longer. So, I declined. My son's food was mediocre. At no time did any manager or supervisor stop by our table to indicate their concern with the mistakes and the allergy issue. Wow. What a rough dinner. Amazingly bad when you consider the price. We had a party of 4. Three ordered a cocktail. Server brought them out and everyone had the wrong drink. She did not have a clue throughout the meal. Server was not friendly at all and didn't hit the basic steps of being a server. I expect much better from the White Barn. Our server at Allison's was literally 10 times better. Ordered Charcuterie as an appetizer. As you can see from the picture, it's not very impressive for $40. Server just plonks it on the table with no description of the meats. There's some pate looking substance behind the prosciutto. My wife and I can't quite make it out, so I ask the server. She says it's tomato puree. It's clearly meat, so I ask if she is sure and she says she'll check. Comes back to let me know it's meat something (we couldn't make it out). When I was done with my drink, she just came over and took the glass without asking if I'd like anything else. I stopped her and asked for another drink. She then turned to leave without asking if anyone else would like anything. All glasses were empty. This was how the whole night was. Entrees- my wife had a chicken breast that must have been about 3 ounces, I had a tiny lobster roll that was probably the worst value in town. It tasted "ok" but was small. Others had the burger- ordered medium came out well done, and steak frites- was pretty good For dessert, we tried the Going Bananas. Described as "dulce crémeux, bananas foster, banana ice cream." If you look at the picture, the banana looking thing is the dulce cremeux- this was pretty good. Then there is banana ice cream and a wafer. Nowhere is there "bananas foster" or even a banana. That wraps it up. Food and service will be better in most other Kennebunkport restaurants. Save your money and have less stress- eat elsewhere. read more

We went to the casual Little Barn for dinner and opted for the pre-fixe menu. The restaurant was comfortable inside, unfortunately, we sat next to the air vents which made it extra cold for us. The drinks were delicious, we ordered the summer moon and crimes of passion. For dinner, the appetizers were good. The main course, we ordered the Kennebunkport lobster. The flavors were tasty, but we were a bit disappointed that it was just the tail (it didn't specify on the menu, so we thought it was a bit misleading). Dessert was sweet. Let me start out by saying the service was top notch! Super friendly, attentive, and helpful server. The reason I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars is because the food was not that good. I got the salmon, and it had legitimately no seasoning on it. I wish I had taken a photo because it's just a naked piece of salmon. Had reservations for (7) people at 6:30, for pre-fireworks dinner last night and the service was terrible. We asked the waitress to split the checks before we ordered, she was totally baffled, by the request ( final checks were all wrong) . Waited 15-20 minutes for a glass of wine and drinks when we sat down. Our meals were served at different times, my husband was not served until well after we were 1/2 way into our meals. Having eaten at the Little Barn once a year or two ago and enjoyed it, I made reservations for an anniversary dinner. I'm sorry to say the food was mediocre at best, and overpriced. My salmon and vegetables had literally no flavor, I added olive oil s&p to try and salvage. So very disappointing, and way over priced. Won't be going back. Our server was nice but over attentive at the beginning of service when we wanted to enjoy our drinks and appetizer, she came back every 5 minutes for no less than 6 times. We are at their more casual Little Barn restaurant and this was easily the best meal we've eaten in Kennebunk. We got spicy mussels to start, which were really incredible, followed by lobster tagliatelle and mushroom gnocchi, both of which were excellent. Our kids also loved their chicken and cheeseburger, and the French fries with each were great. Definitely will be back next time we're in tow. read more

Considering that this is part of the White Barn we assumed the meal would be limited and not as fancy but at least it would be good. We have dined at the White Barn twice and enjoyed both visits. The Little barn Chicken was so bad we sent it back. It tasted frozen, no flavor and had some canned tasting gravy dollop on top. It was replaced with a $34 burger which was edible but not really very good. The short ribs were very dry and the vegetables sprinkled in the mashed potatoes tasted as if they were frozen. Our neighbor ordered the tagliatelle which was actually spaghetti? No sauce and sliced tomatoes on top. Really strange. I can't believe that the same chef who prepares the prefix for the White Barn would allow any of this to be served. The cocktails were good but the wine list by the glass left much to be desired. The service was just ok as we waited 15 min for water service. We left a decent tip as we know how hard service people work but the dinner was not worth the $200 bill. We won't be back. There are so many excellent restaurants in Kennebunk and Ogunquit to choose from. The Little Barn isn't it. read more

Tried the prix fixe menu at the little barn. The service was absolutely amazing, Alicja was so sweet, attentive and really made our experience enjoyable and the atmosphere of the room is great. Perfect date night spot! For starters I had the Roasted squash salad and my partner had the shrimp toast. Both of these were great. I absolutely loved my salad and my partner loved his shrimp toast. The shrimp toast was good but I preferred the salad. For mains we both got the short rib Mac and cheese. The portion size was huge which was awesome but the dish itself was very heavy and felt too greasy. The cheese they used was too overpowering. Ended up being a bit soupy. Neither of us would get this again (and we both do love Mac and cheese). For desserts I got the apple crisp and my partner had the fudge torte. The apple crisp was pretty good but nothing memorable and I don't like fudge typically so I wasn't into my partners fudge torte - it was too dense for me. Would like to go back again and try a different main. It's good value, service, and ambiance - hoping that a different entree we would like more. The wait staff were wonderful. The atmosphere was nice, relaxing and cozy. The food however was unseasoned and needed salt, but unfortunately the salt shaker didn't work. My friends and I had to come here after we went on an impromptu trip to Kennebunkport, Maine just us women and our two children (ages 7 and 13) and we decided to try all of the upscale restaurants. We had reservations at "The Little Barn" because unfortunately the "Big Barn" was completely booked but we had preferred to dine at the big barn. The little barn is much more casual then the big barn. The big barn had a man playing piano & they have that beautiful window display as well. The little barn had a cute seasonal display but it didn't compare to the giant pumpkin in the big barns display. We walked over to Big Barn restaurant just to get a look and we got a few dirty looks from diners as we tried to snap pictures- even though if you dine at little barn you still have to eat from a Prix fixed dinner menu, and it's still pricy! It was delicious! All of us agreed our meals were delicious! We were really excited about trying these fresh farm to table restaurants and this didn't disappoint. We loved all the fresh ingredients & everything was delicious! We all ate our meals and loved them. We also ordered a few alcoholic beverages which were delicious as well. The service was great and attentive. My one complain is they were out one of the Prix fixed dinners which was a little inconvenient. All in all, if you're dining around here, I definitely recommend checking this restaurant out, maybe if you have time- give the Big Barn Restaurant a chance if they aren't booked solid! The restaurant feels out of place in a town like Kennebunkport. Prices are high, portions are not. I'm always suspect of a bar that precisely measures its drinks. Our Manhattans were "by the book" but not the best. We started with the deviled eggs, 3 smallish pieces, priced high. We've had tastier and larger portions. Excellent service by our server Brittany and beautiful restaurant but very bland food. Had the tagliatelle, which technically wasn't even tagliatelle. It was more like fettuccine. Pasta was very overcooked so it was mushy and unflavorful, nothing special at all. My aunt had lobster Cobb salad. Lobster was tasty and cooked appropriately however salad greens were somewhat wilted and there was very little cheese in salad and dressing was very bland. As such ordered a salad with burratta, tomatoes and cucumbers - it was ok, but nothing special. Starter whitefish dip was pretty tasteless and seemed like way more base than fish and was served with potato chips which was plain odd even though the chips themselves were good (I expect house made). Chips broke if trying to use to scoop up the dish - how about some flatbread crisps!? What an amazing meal!!! We actually ate in what is called Little Barn, it connected to White Barn Inn and the food is all ala carte. Same top quality food and service tho. I loved it. The drinks were unique and delicious. The menu is extensive and there were additional nightly specials. I enjoyed dinner with two friends and we had a variety of food. I had flake schnitzel with potato. For appetizers we had citrus olives, deviled eggs, and cornbread. My guest had tagliatelle and lobster, and arctic chard. Update: visited Little Barn. We were in town and didn't feel like going to White Barn. Our last experience there of a prix fixe meal that maybe impresses the white shoe, lower-Maine crowd but doesn't come close to competing with what innovative places put out in that price point in a major city wasn't what we wanted. But we saw they rebranded their bistro and seemed to be giving it more attention...so why not? The food was mixed, just like it was at White Barn. Salad with avocado was well dressed. The lobster roll is comically small. Like maybe 1/8th of lb in what has to be a custom made tiny brioche hot dog roll. And served with a lot of fries. Potatoes on the chicken were various levels of cooked but the chicken itself was perfectly cooked. The sauce it was in was a level of sweet that could not have been intentional. Chocolate cake was incredibly dry, mistake level dry, even if the flavor was of deep, dark chocolate. And $17, I think. Offensive. In the end it's still super expensive (it's the salon of a spot locals consider a Michelin-equivalent spot) and the food was just not where it needs to be for the cost. That's not even mentioning the fact it absolutely feels like you're going over to the poor people side of the restaurant based on how the desk essentially hurdled the folks waiting for Little Barn to escort the White Barn diners to their tables. But I get it: my check at White Barn was $600, versus "only" $250 at Little Barn. I guess White Barn isn't for us. I'll just settle for Auberge du Soleil from this group's portfolio when we take our annual trip to Napa. read more

Little Barn is a hidden treasure. It's located in the luxurious White Barn Inn and open to those not staying at the inn. The Little Barn is the smaller and more casual of the two restaurants in the inn, and it's somewhat easy to get a reservation for or even walk in. All parking is valet, which adds to an enjoyable experience. True to its name, Little Barn is a smaller rustic dining area, and it is absolutely gorgeous and stylishly decorated. The service has always been great, and the food is delicious. They tend to have good specials, but you can't go wrong with their regular menu either. I love the cornbread and whipped butter to start. My favorite dishes are the roast chicken and the burger. I had my bachelorette luncheon here, and it was truly a the perfect spot for it. They were able to accommodate our group of 9. It felt fancy and special but not at the expense of feeling relaxed. read more

Review fir the Little Barn: If you have young children and talk at a high volume, this is the place for you. My husband and I suffered through an extremely annoying and loud dinner on Sunday night. First there was a couple with a baby and a toddler who were screaming and shouting most of their meal. Then a large party with 3 young children entered and the children and mother bellowed the entire time. It was as if they were at home and not in a public space. We ate at the little barn tonight and were sad to see it's slide. It's owned by Auberge now and they have a long history of good food, as did the white barn inn. Something has gone wrong 1) I'm not a big eater but the portions were tiny 2) the quality and taste were not up to standards and 3) It's always been expensive, but has gotten away from them. I wrote to the GM and he invited me back to experience hospitality as per White Barn standards . Went here for lunch over the weekend and it was fantastic! Everything we had was great. The focaccia bread with oil was a nice start. We got the brussels sprouts for an appetizer and they were some of the best I've ever had with a tasty Asian sauce. The lobster roll was very fresh and buttery, with fries that were okay, nothing amazing, but not bad. Another person in my party had the cobb salad and liked it. I had the halibut and it was delicious. We also got some sorbet for dessert that was delicious. The service was outstanding. This may be due to the fact that we were the only people in the restaurant. But still, our server was very attentive and fun. We were not rushed at all, in fact we were there for about two hours. We had made reservations weeks ahead at the White Barn Restaurant for their "Oktoberfest" event. They sat us in their attached Little Barn restaurant instead of the more formal White Barn Restaurant, away from the band. Though there was an open table, the host insisted there was no availability, and there was nothing he could do, and had to be seated at the more casual, attached restaurant (Little Barn). We were very disappointed, especially since we ate dinner of the Little Barn the night before. Although our waitress tried to be attentive, she knew absolutely nothing about the food on the menu, and was unable to answer the most basic questions, to the point of being embarrassing. The food was very meh, drinks just ok. Way too expensive for what we got. In the end, we didn't mind being seated away from the oompah band - never heard of an oompah band playing "Que Sera, Sera," or "Highway to Hell." Bizarre. read more
