When our group of 6 knew we were coming to Kennebunkport for 4 nights and 5 days we wanted to ensure our dining adventures would be "memorable gatherings". One of our attending friends (Dale) who organized this journey, outdid himself in finding this gem of a restaurant. Exquisite, magnificent, classy, with a cozy and warm/well appointed ambiance. Earth at Hidden Pond is all of these with fabulous service and meal offerings. While I personally was apprehensive about sitting outside in a shed, I am SO glad Dale did not give up the sales effort. We pulled up our cars to the valet outside the front door and were warmly greeted there and as well by the hostess stand folks. Our reservation was for the private Potter's Shed but due to a snafu we were brought to the larger Painter's Shed. Wow, impressive does not do this location justice. Check out our pictures here. Our server Kurt (5 stars) met us there and expertly walked us thru the cocktail menu, and we ordered the following: a glass of Chardonnay, Humble Old Fashioned, Hidden Smoke, Pickled Tini, Cranberry Clock and Autumn Sangria. He also brought several offerings of focaccia bread with plates of dipping oil. A very nice touch. Kurt next reviewed the menu with the group, as we were enjoying our various cocktails. We selected the 4 course prix fixe Fall menu for $115 per person. Glad we did as all of these course choices were phenomenal. First selections made: caprese salad, roasted carrots, salad, beef tartare and 2 butternut squash soaps Second: fettuccine, several cavatelli & seared foie gras orders and crab cake Main selections: several seafood stews & halibut orders, lobster thermidore, and scallops Dessert selections: 5 orders of doughnuts and one chai cake Bonus round from Kurt as he brought out samples of roasted cauliflower early & raspberry layer mousse later Bottom line this was a wonderful night with epic friends and over the top yet humble service from a Pro's Pro in Kurt. Thank you my friend, you impressed us all and represented the Earth at Hidden Pond brand in legendary fashion. Don't miss this opportunity to dine like Kings & Queens in a very warm environment with magnificent food and service. Kudos to all. Cheers to the Kirby's and the Pizzi's

Wow wow wow! This place is magical. I went in the wintertime and it was so cozy with the lights and amazing ambiance. You have to pick either three course or four. I did four and they were all amazing. I like that the menu changes slightly everytime so you can get something new. The halibut was fantastic and the donuts might have been the best desert I have had in a long time. The service was fantastic. Overall I can't say enough about this place. I want to come back in the summer as well

Great experience at Earth. Food highlights were the lobster thermidor and the strip loin but everyone is spoke to seemed happy with whatever they ordered. 3 or 4 course tasting menu, $105 or $115. Cocktail, wine and beer menu is extensive and of high quality. The grounds are beautiful and the restaurant is a nice mix of rustic and chic. Reservations well in advance required. Will return.

We totally lucked out & got a last-minute reservation at Earth at Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine. Our waitress Kirsten was a fabulous hostess, super friendly & accommodating. We started with fresh bread & some beautiful cocktails. I had the cauliflower with pistachios & hummus my friend had the tuna sashimi, both were simply amazing! The second course was carrots with feta & goose foie gras. The entrees were the star of the show the lobster thermador & pork chop over polenta. Barely had room for dessert but it was included & had the red velvet cheesecake. The whole experience was amazing can't wait to dine in again!

We had a phenomenal experience for our thirtieth anniversary here at Earth. The ambiance, food and service were outstanding. Shoutout to Jesseca for providing a warm, helpful and seamless dinner without any stuffiness or pushy upselling. She guided us through the courses, made excellent wine recommendations and created a special night for us that we will not forget. Treat yourself to this beautiful s

Been dreaming about trying this place forever and it did not disappoint. Wow it's incredible!!! I've been dreaming about those scallops. The sauce on them was out of this world delicious. And don't even get me started on those warm donuts. They were so good. I would go back for those alone. Then add in to beautiful interior. It was absolutely magical. And I wish I could remember our waiters name. He was so kind and attentive. Such a wonderful night!!!!

The best restaurant. We absolutely love this gem. We visit every year on our anniversary. The service is always amazing. The food is always out of this world.

Obsessed with the private outdoor dining shed for group meals! This restaurant blew us away. From the dishes, to the service, everything truly was perfect. The tuna was out of this world, and the cheese sauce on the lobster was full of incredible flavor (4.5/5). Above all, our favorite dishes of the night included the meringue dessert 5/5, pesto pasta 10/5(!) and scallops 5/5. It's priced reasonable for a multi-course meal and the special service touches throughout, along with the atmosphere, make it all worth it.

My five sisters and I had meticulously planned a glorious trip to Kennebunkport, Maine. I don't know about you, but my idea of a top-tier vacation involves hitting all the great restaurants. So, about six weeks prior, I managed to snag the last table for six on one of our Kennebunkport days. It was like the universe was working in my favor. I do, however, have two sisters who are pickier eaters, so I made them inspect the menu beforehand to avoid any dinner drama. Fortunately, the reservation was unanimously approved. The booking was at 5 p.m., which may seem early, but if I'm going to stuff my face, I need several hours before bedtime to recover. We were the first to arrive in the stunningly rustic dining room, and our waitress, Daniele, was an absolute gem. She catered to our every whim and somehow anticipated things we didn't even know we wanted. It was a prix fixe situation--three courses or four--and we all went for three. Spoiler alert: three courses were already more than enough food. I had the short rib tagliatelle (with some kind of magical corn combo), the roast chicken with foie gras (fancy), and, of course, the famous doughnuts. I mean, if the entire internet tells you to order the doughnuts, who am I to go against public demand? Everything was phenomenal. I'm still daydreaming about that pasta. Daniele overheard us casually discussing other menu items and surprised us with an extra serving of carrots (which no one had ordered) and a bonus slice of chocolate cake (also not ordered). Oh, and let me not forget that focaccia at the beginning, sprinkled with sea salt and rosemary--dangerously delicious. Pro tip: resist the urge to fill up on that! All in all, 10/10. A meal for the ages, and I'm still trying to figure out how to get back there ASAP for more of that wizard-level short rib tagliatelle.

We had an incredible experience at Earth! To celebrate my friend's bachelorette, a group of 6 of us reserved the "potting shed" private dining space, which is situated on the lovely grounds. We had the shed from 5 to 8pm, which was plenty of time for drinks, our 4-course meal, and of course conversation and picture-taking. Service was great and very accommodating of dietary restrictions. Our server took great photos of our group both inside and outside of the shed, and she brought us some extra, shareable plates throughout the meal, which were much appreciated. The menu has great variety & changes seasonally, and everyone in my party raved about their food & drinks. I really appreciated how many N/A offerings they had - they can make quite a few of their cocktails into mocktails, and the Lazy Days was tropical and delicious. For dessert, the warm sarsaparilla & sassafras glazed donuts are a must-try. From the window of our shed we could see wildlife in and around the pond, like ducks and beavers. This was such a beautiful experience, and I'd highly recommend it for a special occasion to make it that much more memorable.

What a magical spot. We went for an early dinner right at open with our toddler. The food was nothing less than phenomenal, the staff was friendly and accommodating and the vibe was woodsy and welcoming. It will go down as one of the best meals I've ever had. We did the four course meal, starting with the crab cakes and apricot salad. The crab cakes, while on the smaller side, were fantastic. Extremely flavorful and fresh, and the sauce had a perfect kick to it. The apricot salad was fresh, with burrata and a nice assortment of fruit. The second course was just as good. I had the barley risotto, which I never would have ordered had the staff not recommended it. It was excellent, very truffley and unlike other risotto I've had before. My wife said the scallops were excellent as well. For the main course, we had the lobster cassoulet - a full lobster tail and mussels over a bed of cannelloni beans. It was such an interesting combination of flavors that I hadn't had before. The lobster was so good it was almost sweet, and the mussels were cooked to perfection. Finally, the donuts. Get the donuts. They're a bit heavier than I thought they would be, but they were incredible. The ice cream accompanying them was amazing too. Altogether this was an excellent meal, made even better by a super nice waitstaff. Can't wait to come back!

Unforgettable experience. Went to celebrate wedding anniversary and so glad we did! Perfect from beginning to end. Beautiful gardens. Elegant but not stuffy. Our server was awesome and gave us good guidance on what to order. Dinners were delightful (can't remember what I had TBH as I'm writing this six months later, but I do remember loving it!) One thing I do remember is that perfect lavender donut I capped off my meal with, in addition to the beautiful anniversary dessert provided (see pic). Top notch all the way! Go!!

    Donuts incredibleeeee.

First of all, We don't drink alcohol and the bar was louder than the main dining room. With all the empty space she took us to an area where two other couples were at the tables next to us. No consideration regarding privacy and I don't care to hear other people's conversation at dinner. I carefully picked up our service ware and moved it to the empty table in the corner. It even seemed it might be a stretch for the server in the Bar to be able to walk 25' to our NEW location. The Food was very tasty. The bottled water was chlorinated, so we bought a liter. I mentioned that a 2 liter bottle cannot be picked up and poured with ease. "It's a new thing changed by the manager."--------- It was not well thought out. Try to pour a 2 liter bottle of wine or water with one hand. We also had to use another napkin as a placemat. What is on those tables? Bee's Wax? Use some Dawn soap.

We started the evening with cocktails which were very much to our liking, followed by a delicious appetizer of lobster risotto that we shared. The servings were enough where we took the bones and whatever meat was left to make a delicious beef soup. Neither one of us were up for dessert but decided to get two to go, which we downed once we got home. And they were both delicious. In closing, I'd be remiss without saying a good word about our server Keila. She was warm, friendly, funny, and very attentive to our table. She made our night to enjoyable! Thanks you Keila ! If you loved Village Tavern under the previous owners, you should know that the beloved restaurant you remember no longer exists. The name is the same. The esthetic is the same. Some menu items even have the same names. But the experience is not. During our visit, the calamari, salmon, duck, and haddock were all cooked properly, yet each dish was surprisingly bland and forgettable. Many longtime favorites, including the wide selection of side dishes like the broccoli with blue cheese, are gone. This isn't a bad restaurant on its own merits. The problem is that it's trading on the reputation of something that no longer exists. What I find most puzzling is that the new owners kept the Village Tavern name while abandoning so much of what made it successful. When a restaurant has earned decades of loyalty, you would expect new ownership to preserve its strengths. Instead, it feels like they discarded the very things that built its reputation. I left disappointed, but mostly sad. A restaurant I once considered one of the best in Southern Maine is now simply pedestrian and overly priced. Former fans should adjust their expectations accordingly or avoid the disappointment altogether.

Upon arrival, we were initially seated in what felt more like a brightly lit, casual tavern or breakfast room, completely at odds with the refined dining experience we expected. Surrounded by families and very casual attire, it was confusing and frankly off-putting. After asking the host stand, we were eventually moved to the actual dining room, which was beautiful - dim, elegant, and exactly the ambiance we had hoped for. Service throughout the evening was polished and professional, and every dish was plated beautifully. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. While we understand that tasting menus consist of smaller portions, each course, just two or three bites, was entirely forgettable. The flavors lacked balance and subtlety, which is surprising at this price point. The beef tartare in a cigar like wrapper was very mid. One of my early courses was a scallop dish, and the scallops were cooked so poorly they were the rubberiest I've ever had (an immediate red flag in a restaurant of this caliber). My main course, a tenderloin, arrived as an overcooked end piece. After sending it back and requesting rare, it returned slightly less well done, still an end cut, and completely overwhelmed by a salty, heavy red wine demi-glace that tasted more like something from a packet than a refined sauce. It was one of the least appetizing beef dishes I have perhaps ever had. The cheese plate featured Great Hill Blue which some might love but is available at my local Stop & Shop so didn't really knock my socks off, a boring cheddar and a third cheese I can't even recall. At a restaurant of this caliber, I was expecting a much more curated collection of exciting, super, stinky cheeses that one could not find at a chain grocery store. At nearly $700 for two people (with a few drinks and a multi-course menu), the experience simply did not come close to justifying the cost. The following night, we had a $200 dinner at Chez Rosa, the Little French bisto in downtown Kennebunkport. The meal there FAR surpassed this meal in both flavor and execution. Based on our experience--and what seems to be echoed in more recent reviews--the quality of the food here no longer matches its reputation or price point. This was meant to be a special occasion destination, but instead left us feeling frustrated and genuinely let down.
