Our favorite restaurant in Kennebunkport. As soon as you drive in the feeling changes and once you enter the restaurant you feel like you're transported to an enchanted garden. If dining with young children there is plenty of space outside for them to roam when they get rambunctious. The cocktails are creative, beautiful, and delicious. It's hard to choose what to pick for each course because everything sounds so good! You can never go wrong with the scallops. Perfectly cooked in a delicious sauce. Food started strong then progressively went downhill. Service also started strong with the host, but once the server came over it became weak and continued to decline throughout the evening. He completely disregarded the other guest and only focused on my drink order, which felt disrespectful. After taking my order and walking awaynot once but twice, when he returned I had to ask, "Are you not going to take her drink order?" The tuna sashimi was great and the carrots were good as well. However, something about the halibut tasted off. I work with fish daily, and this personally was not it. I had one bite and could not continue eating it. The server boxed up the halibut for me, but then tossed a to-go container onto the table for us to box our own dessert, which felt inconsistent with the level of service. The bartender was wearing an H&H raincoat and appeared to be drinking on the job, while other female staff members were scrolling on their phones. Overall, not a great first impression. The ambiance itself was nice, but when you make an 8:30 PM reservation and receive a text at 7:30 PM saying your table is ready, it feels a bit off-putting. I had asked beforehand if anything earlier was available and was told no, so I intentionally booked later for an evening experience. Then upon arrival, the restaurant was fairly empty. Within the first few minutes of us being there, the kitchen doors were closed and cleaning was happening all around us. It created an unpleasant atmosphere for what was supposed to be a social evening out and a little hoorah celebration, and nothing was acknowledged by staff. It was clear that reservation notes or comments in chat of reservation were not reviewed. Overall, not thrilled with the experience. Been there, done that -- one visit was enough for me/us unless that 49-year-old male server Charlie learns how to properly serve guests and the kitchen team start to season the food a bit better. Would have been nice if Charlie checked in with us more like he did the other tables hence the eaves dropping to know more about him and the place. 4/10 experience, will not be back which is a bummer. read more

Have been wanting to return here quite some time my husband was able to get us a last-minute reservation so we snagged it. The restaurant is cozy and beautiful at the same time. It feels like Maine with the wood logs as the decor and trees. We sat in the back room which almost gives a Maine camp porch vibe. There are two different Prix fix a three and a four. My husband got the three but I went with the four because I had heard some great things with the glazed carrots, I thought we could share them. Everything was wonderful but just too much food for me. I started with the tuna sashimi which was superb and my husband had the pork belly. I had the glazed carrots and they brought my husband glazed cauliflower on the house, loved both. My husband had the steak and I had the halibut and they both were delicious. My fish came with baby potatoes, I'm not a fan of those. Finally my husband had their famous glazed donuts, the plate was licked clean and I had the chocolate cake. When our group of 6 knew we were coming to Kennebunkport for 4 nights and 5 days we wanted to ensure our dining adventures would be "memorable gatherings". One of our attending friends (Dale) who organized this journey, outdid himself in finding this gem of a restaurant. Exquisite, magnificent, classy, with a cozy and warm/well appointed ambiance. Earth at Hidden Pond is all of these with fabulous service and meal offerings. While I personally was apprehensive about sitting outside in a shed, I am SO glad Dale did not give up the sales effort. We pulled up our cars to the valet outside the front door and were warmly greeted there and as well by the hostess stand folks. Our reservation was for the private Potter's Shed but due to a snafu we were brought to the larger Painter's Shed. Wow, impressive does not do this location justice. Check out our pictures here. Our server Kurt (5 stars) met us there and expertly walked us thru the cocktail menu, and we ordered the following: a glass of Chardonnay, Humble Old Fashioned, Hidden Smoke, Pickled Tini, Cranberry Clock and Autumn Sangria. He also brought several offerings of focaccia bread with plates of dipping oil. A very nice touch. Kurt next reviewed the menu with the group, as we were enjoying our various cocktails. We selected the 4 course prix fixe Fall menu for $115 per person. Glad we did as all of these course choices were phenomenal. Wow wow wow! This place is magical. I went in the wintertime and it was so cozy with the lights and amazing ambiance. You have to pick either three course or four. I did four and they were all amazing. I like that the menu changes slightly everytime so you can get something new. The halibut was fantastic and the donuts might have been the best desert I have had in a long time. The service was fantastic. Overall I can't say enough about this place. Obsessed with the private outdoor dining shed for group meals! This restaurant blew us away. From the dishes, to the service, everything truly was perfect. The tuna was out of this world, and the cheese sauce on the lobster was full of incredible flavor (4.5/5). Above all, our favorite dishes of the night included the meringue dessert 5/5, pesto pasta 10/5(!) and scallops 5/5. My five sisters and I had meticulously planned a glorious trip to Kennebunkport, Maine. I don't know about you, but my idea of a top-tier vacation involves hitting all the great restaurants. So, about six weeks prior, I managed to snag the last table for six on one of our Kennebunkport days. It was like the universe was working in my favor. I do, however, have two sisters who are pickier eaters, so I made them inspect the menu beforehand to avoid any dinner drama. Fortunately, the reservation was unanimously approved. The booking was at 5 p.m., which may seem early, but if I'm going to stuff my face, I need several hours before bedtime to recover. We were the first to arrive in the stunningly rustic dining room, and our waitress, Daniele, was an absolute gem. She catered to our every whim and somehow anticipated things we didn't even know we wanted. It was a prix fixe situation--three courses or four--and we all went for three. Spoiler alert: three courses were already more than enough food. I had the short rib tagliatelle (with some kind of magical corn combo), the roast chicken with foie gras (fancy), and, of course, the famous doughnuts. I mean, if the entire internet tells you to order the doughnuts, who am I to go against public demand? Everything was phenomenal. I'm still daydreaming about that pasta. Daniele overheard us casually discussing other menu items and surprised us with an extra serving of carrots (which no one had ordered) and a bonus slice of chocolate cake (also not ordered). Oh, and let me not forget that focaccia at the beginning, sprinkled with sea salt and rosemary--dangerously delicious. Pro tip: resist the urge to fill up on that! All in all, 10/10. A meal for the ages, and I'm still trying to figure out how to get back there ASAP for more of that wizard-level short rib tagliatelle. read more

We had an incredible experience at Earth! To celebrate my friend's bachelorette, a group of 6 of us reserved the "potting shed" private dining space, which is situated on the lovely grounds. We had the shed from 5 to 8pm, which was plenty of time for drinks, our 4-course meal, and of course conversation and picture-taking. Service was great and very accommodating of dietary restrictions. Our server took great photos of our group both inside and outside of the shed, and she brought us some extra, shareable plates throughout the meal, which were much appreciated. The menu has great variety & changes seasonally, and everyone in my party raved about their food & drinks. I really appreciated how many N/A offerings they had - they can make quite a few of their cocktails into mocktails, and the Lazy Days was tropical and delicious. For dessert, the warm sarsaparilla & sassafras glazed donuts are a must-try. From the window of our shed we could see wildlife in and around the pond, like ducks and beavers. What a magical spot. We went for an early dinner right at open with our toddler. The food was nothing less than phenomenal, the staff was friendly and accommodating and the vibe was woodsy and welcoming. It will go down as one of the best meals I've ever had. We did the four course meal, starting with the crab cakes and apricot salad. The crab cakes, while on the smaller side, were fantastic. Extremely flavorful and fresh, and the sauce had a perfect kick to it. The apricot salad was fresh, with burrata and a nice assortment of fruit. The second course was just as good. I had the barley risotto, which I never would have ordered had the staff not recommended it. It was excellent, very truffley and unlike other risotto I've had before. My wife said the scallops were excellent as well. For the main course, we had the lobster cassoulet - a full lobster tail and mussels over a bed of cannelloni beans. It was such an interesting combination of flavors that I hadn't had before. The lobster was so good it was almost sweet, and the mussels were cooked to perfection. Finally, the donuts. Get the donuts. They're a bit heavier than I thought they would be, but they were incredible. The ice cream accompanying them was amazing too. My husband and I popped in on a whim hoping we could eat for dinner full well knowing there weren't reservations available (they do online for all spots). Valet at the door was kind. Upon entering it's calm and gorgeous. There were two kind hostesses that encouraged me to grab drinks at the bar and enjoy them outside, she said she'd let me know when a spot opened up at the bar for us. I'd like to note that a negative review here indicates the bartender ignored the guests...there are only 4 spots at the bar. It's impossible to be ignored when they are making drinks in front of you. Service: I wouldn't call the staff overly chatty, but they were absolutely warm, kind, great guides of the menu and perfectly attentive. Not interrupting us but also there if we needed anything. I enjoyed watching them throughout the dining room and could see how they worked together to take care of patrons. Food: the menu is 3 course ($105pp) or 4 course ($115pp) but also very flexible within that as to mixing and matching between first/second/dessert. We started with focaccia and it was melt in your mouth delicious. We loved the carrots (unexpectedly), cauliflower was incredible. I always order tartare and it was good but not exceptional. I loved the pork chop - the mustard gastrique combined with the char of the tender and perfectly cooked chop was melt in your mouth. The polenta paired perfectly. We finished off with the homemade donuts I wasn't planning to eat but devoured in minutes. Ambiance: Cozy, warm decor and lighting. There were kids with parents and it totally worked. They tied in the outdoor space inside well and when you walk outside to the patio area it's beautiful and cozy, fire pit near the pool and Adirondack chairs. Truly a wonderful evening. What a phenomenal spot and experience. We visited during Valentines weekend and were mesmerized the second we walked in. The service was impeccable and friendly the entire night. We absolutely loved our cocktails and their wine list is seriously impressive. Although pricey, this totally warrants the high quality incredible dishes that are included in their tasting menu. Our favorite part was outside of our main dishes, we were able to choose our remaining courses from anywhere on the menu. Since we are never huge dessert people, this was amazing because we were able to double up on apps and small plates that we LOVED! All beautifully plated and well spaced out so we never felt rushed. If you had asked me to write a review the moment I left the restaurant, it would have been a glowing 5 stars. The service was excellent, the ambiance lovely, and overall it felt like a great dining experience...until it wasn't. Unfortunately, about 36 hours after our meal, both my sister and I came down with severe food poisoning that derailed the rest of our trip. We ended up having to extend our stay an extra day and rebook our flights, this was physically exhausting, expensive and incredibly stressful. We traced the issue back to the oysters, which were served warm on a bed of salt. My sister and I were the only ones at our table who ate them, and we were the only ones who got sick. I also noticed my fish entree was undercooked, though I don't believe that was the source since my sister had a different main course. I truly wish I could leave a different review, because everything leading up to this was so enjoyable. But I hope this feedback is taken seriously, especially around food safety, so others don't have the same experience. read more

For the price point, Earth really missed the mark. We spent about $400 on dinner and left disappointed. The octopus appetizer arrived cold and flavorless- grilled octopus should be hot, no cold spots. The halibut was also cold, rubbery, and drowned in a "coconut lemon" sauce that somehow had no trace of lemon at all. At this level, dishes should be hot, fresh, and balanced -- not careless. The kitchen had no love in the food. Portions were shockingly small for what they charge. The cavatelli dish, for example, was barely more than a single scoop -- hardly a true serving, let alone something you'd expect from a fine dining restaurant. The sauce had no depth, it tasted like macaroni and cheese. When you're spending this much, you expect a thoughtful, memorable meal. Instead, the night felt like a case of style over substance, and we left very let down. read more

This was our anniversary dinner and the staff started with bringing us complimentary flutes of champagne, such a nice gesture! Our server then went over the menu and we chose to do the 4 course option. I started with the chai espresso martini (amazing, def get this!) and bread was brought to us, so good. First course: quail for me, sashimi for hubs. The quail was so flavorful, lovely presentation. Second course: cavatelli for both of us. This was so good, we both wished the portion was bigger! To get to this place you realize that it was very appropriately named, you have to go deep into a very secluded area and it takes you from hidden roads to more hidden roads for quite a while until you find the hidden pond ( if you watch too many scary movies bring a flashlight ) and you feel like you just finished a leg of Survivor, it's quite adventurous and fun. The menu was a 4 course of which you picked one item from each one. The portions are much smaller than I thought could be possible. My main course was the steak and I was surprised when it was only 2 slices of strip ( they should call it HIDDEN STEAK AT HIDDEN POND , honestly the food isn't abundant nor awesome but the experience and the service makes up for it. At the recommendation of a fellow Yelp Elite friend, we decided to check this place out during a trip to Maine. And, boy, we are sure glad we did. Ambiance: My husband and I arrived on a dark and rainy evening, so we did not see the grounds very well, though we hear they are beautiful. What we did see at the entryway inside, though, showed that there was a lot of care and detail put into the surroundings. We appreciated the fast and friendly valet service. Otherwise, it looks like the parking is a little bit further up the drive, which did not sound pleasing in the rain. Be sure to check for reservations a month or more out so you are prepared when the reservation site opens up. We arrived 10-12 minutes early, and the hostess helped get drinks from the bar for us while we waited. The bar has only a handful of chairs at it, so it was crowded with a few other groups waiting for their table, too. We appreciated the host's attention to service in this regard. We were seated pretty much right on schedule. The tree chandelier coming down from the ceiling was spectacularly beautiful. I appreciated learning that the wood used to build the restaurant was from the trees that were cleared from the land. It was a nice added touch to include slices of the trees inside the walls for decor, too. The service for our 4-course meals was a bit disjointed. Courses were timed well at first, but it hit a wall after our third course. It seemed as though staff were buzzing to get early and entree dishes out for quite a while, so attention on our desserts was delayed. Our meal took about 2.25 hours, which was a bit long. Food: To start, we enjoyed the fresh foccacia bread with dipping oil. It was seasoned beautifully and had a delicate density. Since the menu changes based on seasonal ingredients, diners are likely to have unique culinary experiences. The plating of the dishes showed great attention to detail and balance. For our first course, we enjoyed the Butternut Squash Soup (with scallop, caviar, picked apples, spinach, and hazelnuts) and Roasted Carrots (with dates, tahini, pomegranate, spiced nuts, and yogurt). For our second course, we had the Japanese A5 Wagyu (with lobster, caramelized onions, and truffle mashed potatoes) and the Fettuccine (with lobster, citrus beurre blanc, confit tomato, and lemon crumble). Our main course dishes were the Duck (with five spices, sweet potato puree, brussels, squash, and mushrooms) and the Heritage Chicken (with parsnip puree, broccolini, maple bourbon carrots, and black cherry jus). We rounded out our meal with the Chocolate Cake and the Creme Brulee. Our server also gave us a free Doughnuts dessert because "he personally loved them and wanted us to try them," but we think it was likely a way of acknowledging how long our desserts took without actually saying it. The star dishes of the night were the chicken and the wagyu dishes. They were to die for. Overall, we would definitely return for another round during another season so we can experience even more of their creative culinary offerings. This is was my second visit to Earth, and happy to report that it was as good as my first visit. On this visit, we sat inside in the main dining room. Our first visit was private dining in one of the sheds outdoor, which was great. This restaurant is perfect for a special occasion, food and service are great, yet everything is very casual with no stuffiness. Others have mentioned the price, and well, this is special and the food is priced accordingly. They are currently offering a 3 or 4 course menu, and I believe there will be something for everybody in all the courses. Cocktails to start were carefully made and quite good, wine list is reasonably priced, with a nice selection of offerings by the glass. The setting outside the dining room is also great, arrive early and perhaps enjoy the seats near the firepit, or just roam and enjoy the views of the pond. On this visit, we all had the four course dinner, and everybody was happy with every plate that arrived. Some of the plates are larger than others, but we found there was more than enough food. Some of the portions are on the smaller side, but I doubt you would be hungry after this meal. One of the standout dishes were the gnocchi, fluffy, light ethereal. I could have had 4 courses of these alone! Octopus was cooked to perfection, and the chocolate torte dessert with peanut butter ice cream was outstanding. This is a "value adjusted" review. Food was good but nothing special and certainly not in line with the cost. Iberico pork chop was the best item. Halibut, carrots and steak tartare were bland despite descriptions that sounded great. Bread and oil served Very good They currently offer a 3 or 4 course dining experience where you choose one from 5 or 6 offerings I had the steak tartare for course 1, it was a bit spicy but good, course 2 was skirt steak cooked to your requested temperature, seafood stew for main entree and lemon tart for dessert. My friend had the donuts so we got to try both desserts Everything was delicious however the portions are very small so if you have a big appetite this isn't the place. We arrived for a 7:30 p.m. reservation and were immediately seated in what is a gorgeous, interesting and warm dining room. The walls are clad in cross sections of fallen timber and the dining room has live greenery peppered throughout. Very cozy, but it was a bit loud on the busy night we visited. We opted for the four-course tasting menu. We both got the cauliflower soup with lobster, pea oil, micro greens and two paper-thin potato crisps. Absolutely delightful. We also both opted for the scallops for our second course. They were perfectly prepared -- probably the best scallops I've ever had, and I've eaten a few. For the third course, I had the lobster, which came in a zesty, bright tomato sauce with greens and sausage (I think). My dining partner had the duck, which was also perfectly prepared and delicious. I ordered the doughnut and ice cream dessert. I'd have liked a bit more than a tablespoon of ice cream since it comes with two warm frosted donuts. My dining partner got the chocolate cake for dessert. Both were delicious. Service was 9/10. I deduct one because one of the food runners said they simply could not help us when we requested beverage refills, so we had to wait for our waiter.
