I don't even know how to rate this bar. It's a local favorite. So it's got that going for it. The bar is strewn with woman's bras and all sorts of wild memorabilia on the walls. It's small and dirty and just your typical small mountain local bar. You come for the company and music. Not the food or ambiance. On a good night this place can be packed. With people dancing and getting all sorts of inappropriate on the dance floor. The bands change all the time and they always include all types of music genres. The typical band is usually a known local band, but sometimes they have some bigger names come in. It's the sort of place you enjoy while your there but feel the need to shower immediately after you leave. With lots of soap. Maybe even bleach. (Depends on the night. Who knows.) People rave about the burgers but I prefer to steer clear of the food at all costs. read more

Huh. How have I not reviewed the Little Bear? I celebrated by 21st birthday there back in the 90's. This place, much to my chagrin, often has a cover charge to support the multitude of bands that come through an play this utterly unique Colorado venue. On the plus side, the cover is usually only like $6 bucks, so no big deal. The building itself is old, and built log cabin style. The stage is the dominant feature, and almost all of the tables are situated around it. There is also balcony seating, if you call it that, on the upstairs level. I like the food however, this place is very chaotic waitresses are no where to be found and when you do catch one they are so stressed out how could the customers actually come. Not one time were our drinks refilled or asked how we were doing. This place is supposedly a legendary hangout from the old days but when I went in there it was a bunch of 50 somethings doing the equivalent of Showtime Softcore strip teases to one another to the a soundtrack written by Digital Underground (humpty dance). The quesadillas were soggy and the chicken wings are grossly over priced but they compliment the 7 dollar Coors drafts and the snotty bartender perfectly. DON'T come here for the food!! We went driving around today and initially were going to go to Cactus Jacks, but they had an after wedding party there so it was pretty packed. So, we decided to walk down the street to see what else was around. My bf mentioned The Little Bear was right down the street, so we went in. Definitely a 'bar' scene and not a pub type atmosphere. However, we went upstairs and sat on the porch and watched the cars and people go by. That wasn't bad. What was bad was the service!! Took forever for the waitress to come get our drink order and then to bring it to us was forever! We finally placed our order, my burger was to be medium well and my bf's medium. My daughter had the 10" pizza. A loooooooong time later our food arrived. My fries = pretty disgusting. They were cold and my burger was well done. My bf onion rings = dry, dry, dry... burnt even. My bf burger = BURNT! He asked for medium...this means a little pink in the middle. It was literally black as the Ace of Spades burnt! My daughter's pizza = eh, ok. However, the crust was gross - her words. The waitress never offered us any condiments to go with our burgers and fries. My daughter's cup was empty for the longest time. I have been coming to The Little Bear for nearly a decade. It is a part of my Colorado history that I love and have made memories here that I cherish. It is just plain ol' fun. I am very much a biker chick. I have never ever been to The Little Bear without being on the back of a Harley. These two things together are simply the way the world should be. Freedom and hospitality. It is easy to be happy here. It's kinda dark and smells of old beer and possibly old men drinking beer but this matters not. The staff is salty and fun and the drinks well ..(lets just say there was a time it was suggested I be bungeed to the bike on our way back down the hill, so I didn't fall right off. But that's a story for another day) they are strong and the beers are cold. The food is pretty good, considering where you are and the tables may or may not be clean. This is just what I'd expect from a mountainside biker bar. If this bothers you , you have no business here whatsoever. The potties are very very small and not necessarily ummm... sanitary? But again if you can't stomach this well then a biker you are not and a lightweight you may be. The live music has NEVER disappointed me. Not once. If by some grace of God you can catch a performance by Jakarta here ... DO IT, DO IT, DO IT. They are insane, ridiculous and phenomenal. The dance floor here is smallish so be prepared to dance up close and personal with strangers, but to me this just means more fun. Be careful on your way back home so you can come back up again. I love The Little Bear so very much! So when should we all yelp up there together??? read more

I rated it five stars because for what it is, yes, it's as good as it gets. It's a dilapidated, run-down derelict mess of a place where the urinal looks like a horse-trough and there's garbage on the tables and the beer is served in plastic cups. The food is more accurately described as "grub" or "vittles". It's good enough. Applebee's is in Lakewood. Baker Street Pub in Bel Mar is almost as good a pick-up joint, but will have the low-fat faux-cuisine entrees and precision voca-school service that some here obviously treasure. The charm of the Bear is that they just don't give a &$^*, and really, neither should you. I have heard bands there that electrified the crowd. I'm not even talking national names: just local Denver bands that entertained beyond anything I've seen in larger live concerts with "name" bands. The beer and drinks kept flowing, bugers fries and pizzas were served, people danced. Some hooked up and went home. Some stayed and closed down the place, then hooked up and went home. It's a brilliant place that constitutes a life passage for many, and for that reason it is as good as it gets. After all, everyone knows about the Bear. read more

Midday, I found the kitchen exceptionally slow and the slacker-dude ski bum waiter truly annoying. My burger was exactly average. Nothing special,nothing bad. Reasonably decent. It took me an hour and ten minutes to get and eat my lunch. Way too long at 2pm on a Thursday. BUT, the building itself, old and dark, built with massive wood beams you can no longer find, is definately worth a visit. Up stairs is a catacomb-like balcony of old wood timbers and three pool tables. Its a classic rocky mountain building that should be seen. read more

This is definitely my kind of place! This is a bar/music venue with TONS of character. Very rustic. The bar top has been carved into by whomever was last sitting there. You can smell stale beer. There are bras lining the walls, along with historical memorabilia. There are signed headshots of the musicians that have played there. And the drinks are plenty strong! I always feel right at home at a good biker bar... We strolled in here on a Saturday afternoon, shortly after having lunch down the street. There were two guys on stage, playing acoustic guitar, and singing original tunes. We walked up to the bar, grabbed a stool, and chilled out for a while. I saw some of the musicians they host, and it is quite impressive! I can't wait to go back and see an artist that I have on my iPod. Very cool place! read more

Well, this was an experience. The walls and ceilings are completely covered with dollar bills, stickers, etc. It ain't pretty, but it's not supposed to be. Our server was great. The menu is bar food, which makes sense. I had a quesadilla, which was good and a very generous portion. There was a loud, not very good band playing. The worst part is the bathroom. Took a long time to figure out where the ladies room door was, since the walls and both bathroom doors are covered w junk. There are two stalls, one door has to be forced open and neither locks. The wall separating the stalls is very low so you can see your neighbor. You have to laugh, otherwise it's just gross. read more

I've gone several times, mostly on week days, and the things that stand out the most are: The insane cover charges for mediocre bands The bras on the wall The decent drinks The neat old cash register The tourists This is not a "local" hang out and for the most part, you'll find all kinds of tourists here... Which is great, beef up the mountain economy, but with the tourists comes the insane covers... Absolutely horrible service. We passed through on a Friday at lunch time, and sat down. We were completely ignored for 10 minutes. We finally moved to another table closer to the bar, and finally got someone's attention. After ordering our food and waiting several minutes, the food came, but the server forgot the toppings for my burger. Since she had disappeared (again), I had to go to the bar for them. I do like this place, but mainly because of where it is, the music they have, and it's fun when crowded. The food is just normal bar food, nothing to write home about. I was there tonight with some friends that had never been. I had talked the place up, but when we entered, there were several tables with garbage on them, plates, cups, food, etc. We had to clean our own table to sit down and watch the band. No one ever came to clean anything, so for the time we were there, we sat among filth. I hate to say this because I used to love the Bear, but I think it's going downhill. They just don't seem to care about appearance anymore. It's not what it used to be, which disappoints me. Told some friends from Iowa to meet outside the little bear and we could walk to some other area restaurants, but they beat us there and were already at a table.... so we stayed. They were out of several items, (before noon on a Monday, so probably ran out over the weekend), all ended up with burgers. OK... expensive for a burger. Seems like everyone knows The Little Bear. I was visiting friends in the area and they suggested getting a drink at their local saloon down on Evergreen's tiny main street. Little did I know their saloon was so well known. You walk into The Little Bear and it looks like a barn - if your barn was covered in roadsigns, carved graffiti and bras of every size and color! They have live music almost every night which is what they are known for. Last Wednesday for a $4 cover we saw Nathan McEuen, the son of John from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He was great - amazing guitar, great vocals, and a faux horn section he kind of hummed out himself. Being a Wednesday there were only about 30 people there making it a really intimate performance. Nathan even started coming up with theme music for some folks in the audience for every time they got up from their chairs. The beers were good and reasonably priced. Service was fine. The atmosphere was great. Apparently The Bear gets pretty busy on the weekends with the crowd filling the whole downstairs as well as the second floor balcony. The locals said it gets hard to talk in there on the weekends, but the music is always great. So I leave thinking what a great local saloon. As I traveled around CO over the next week, it seemed like everyone in CO knows The Little Bear and its great reputation for live music. I was feeling pretty lucky to be introduced to it and I'm definitely going to make it a stop on any future visits. read more

This is a GREAT "old BAR"... It has a bar feel, bar personalities and yes, BAR FOOD! There are bras hanging from the ceiling and wood carved initials and offensive words all over the place. ITS A BAR!! If you are offended at a bar setting or that you get even moderate service at A BAR, you might want to avoid this spot. Now, if you want all the eccentric ideals and feels of an old, mountain bar, with all of the bar attachments, then this is your place. There are drunk people, dancing people and loud boisterous people. PERFECT setting for a music BAR! The acoustics here are great and the pew seating in the rafters is a GREAT experience, in the stage area, you cant get a bad seat. The people we met in the 2 nights we went see Eric Tessmer were great. Very approachable and fun...Yes, even the boisterous drunks were fun....But we aren't easily offended people... Especially in a bar... We drove for 3 hours one way to see a musician at this place, got a hotel one night and an airbnb the next. We read the reviews of the place and were a little concerned. After going and spending 2 late nights, closing the bar, we realized that the people posting negative reviews about this establishment are probably far too "fancy" for such a colorful, diverse and FUN crowd. So, if you are easily offended by colorful people, crappy service and mediocre bar food, don't go here...Its not your place! If you are a music lover, a history lover, a person who appreciates the "divey-ness" of old Mountain bars and appreciate people who cut loose and have fun, you surely don't want to miss this spot. Be prepared to order your own drinks at the bar, wait for your munchies and be exposed to some fun, with the colorful people there. And if you like music, you will really appreciate the sounds in here. We WILL be back!! read more

Low lit biker dive bar is well mentioned whenever mountain road trips come to conversation. Seated at a booth, I entertained myself with all the carving done by pen or by pocket knife. There's advertising for live music on different nights of the week. This is an excellent stop when visiting this neck of the wilderness. What to order? Burger boy, get me a burger. The Little Bear is one of two places in the Denver area that when you mention you are going there, the response is always "Ohh, The Little Bear!" The other is the Bucksnort, also in the mountains outside Denver. The food here is marginal - basic bar food. The bar is fully stocked and there is a wide variety of beer. The decor is mountain funky, and the stage is decorated with a wide assortment of bras. The most amazing thing about this place is the musical talent it attracts. They have some of the best bands in town on any given night, but you need to come early - there can't be more than a hundred seats in the whole place. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch. I ordered the hot wings. While I was eating, I took a bite and they were not even cooked all the way! I bit into 3 of the wings and I immediately spit them out. This is what I would call a rustic decor, but very nice. We had their hamburgers for a very quick dinner and were very pleased.

I try not to eat too much red meat due to health reasons. Inevitably when I do eat it I am mostly disappointed. HOWEVER, we stopped by here to check out the little town and tripped up on this place. The smell coming out of the bar was irresistible. My friend and I both ordered our own versions of a burger. This was not just a burger, this was cooked to perfections, drip down your hands, ridiculously amazing tasting burger. Definitely in my top 5 EVER!! Crazy good. Server was very nice, there was live rock playing on the stage and they seemed to have a very nice beer and booze selection (I was driving so didn't drink). This place is a fantastic dive! It's the right kind of dirty, yet has the best kind of atmosphere. What I mean about the right kind of dirty is the ladies room was clean. The bartenders were so cool. I really enjoyed chatting with them over a beer, and we met some great people too boot! Major down side was the $15 cover. Highway robbery in my opinion. I live in a major city and the clubs downtown that are HOT have an inflated cover. I get that they had multiple bands, but that amount was ridiculous. We're here till Friday, I hope to go back there, because it was really awesome, but I hope the cover isn't as pricy during the week. read more
