We heard good reviews from friends about Zoka's before we headed up to Pine Grove, CO. It's a friendly casual restaurant/bar with great views from the deck and satisfying food for the road. We stopped at Pine Valley Park to take our old doggie for a gentle walk / hike around the lake on our way to Bailey one recent Sunday. My wife asked me to drive slowly through the village of Pine, aka Pine Grove after our time in the park, and we saw Zoka's and thought we'd give it a try. We sat on the east facing deck, with a glorious view down the valley of the North Fork of the South Platte River. My wife had a breakfast burrito smothered in green chili that she said was delicious. It was big enough to take half home and eat for lunch the next day. I had a salmon burger with capers and onions mixed into the patty, which was very good. We each had a very cold beer, which was nice on a hot summer afternoon. They were kind enough to cook our dog an unseasoned burger patty, which she of course enjoyed very much. The interior of this place exactly matched the expectations I had when I first saw the exterior - a big rustic bar, western art on the walls, wooden floor, hanging ceiling lights. Unfortunately there's a for sale sign in the parking lot, so the next time we go it might be completely different with a different name and menu. But we thoroughly enjoyed our first visit, and will give it another shot next time we're in Pine. read more

Amazing mountain find. Tucked away about 7 miles (south)from hwy 285 and crossroads you'll find a very nice place to sit a spell and enjoy a beautiful meal. From the amazing views to the Amazing food, all aspects of this dining experience was a 10! Great original dishes to traditional dishes with a spin. Loved the crab cakes!! Great beer and wine selection. Hostess and staff were very nice and friendly. Very relaxing environment. The owner Kurt stopped by to check on us. We still go here 1-2 times a month. I'd really rather keep this place a secret- but I need you to support this place so it's there for me! The pulled pork is great. The potato salad is really good. Better than average food for the near mountains. The views are stellar. Hummingbirds all around the place during the summer and you might see a bald eagle. read more

Small town feel, great ambiance with outside seating to enjoy the great mountain scenery or enjoy the dining area with its many paintings (these are for sale as well). My daughter took me here for Father's Day. I ordered a burger cooked MEDIUM and it arrived RAW. Server (owner) ignored us for 15 minutes then showed up and took the raw food away for a replacement. It was also RAW. They didn't charge us for the crappy food and we left. This lousy joint ruined Father's Day. Just disgusting. How this place stays in business is beyond me. My husband and I were staying in Pine for a small, weekend getaway, and our Airbnb recommended this restaurant! It did not disappoint. We ordered the Zoka Burger and the Beef Brisket sandwich. Both were solid choices and fresh from the grill. However, the star of the show was their French fries and onion rings. Would recommend to anyone driving through. read more

We were very impressed by this quaint mountain eatery for their fresh food and friendly staff! DECOR - rustic, warm and inviting with raised ceilings, separate bar area and a wraparound patio. This place is perfect for any occasion with the beautiful mountain backdrop! FOOD - seasonal, fresh and super delicious! They have a nice selection of vegetarian friendly options such as buffalo cauliflower (what?), veggie penne and stuffed portabello mushroom. I had the winter quinoa salad topped with their famous crab cake and hubby had their burger. The burger was pretty amazing especially with the ciabatta bread! The Gorgonzola cheese might just be a tad overpowering. I was very excited about the crab cake because they claim it's the best outside of Maryland. It really was pretty great despite the initial cold cake they brought out, which was corrected immediately and taken off our bill. The quinoa salad was a winner in my book as well with bursts of sweet flavor of cranberries that complemented the nutty flavors very nicely! SERVICE - A+ especially given the fact that there's a large group of firefighters coming through at the same time we were there. Our food came out promptly and our waitress apologized for the cold food and corrected it right away. We enjoyed the local vibe here and everyone seemed very neighborly! VERDICT - this is definitely a gem in the small town of Pine! They really make an effort to serve quality food here even though they could easily get by with boring bar food and charge the same prices since they're the only restaurant in the area. While headed to Guanella Pass for some leaf peeping, took a detour over to Zokas for some lunch on Oct 1st. We were seated outside (had our mini Goldendoodle with us) at a great corner table with views. Server was extremely friendly and prompt. Nice small selection of tap beers. Pastrami sandwich was delicious along with beefy noodle dish. But the highlight was the green chile - warm and smokey-flavored with loads of pork and served with a flour tortilla! We have eaten here a couple times a year, (coming up from Denver), since 2007. The food has always been average but the service and ambiance was always good and fun. Today was a huge disappointment. We will not be back. Our server was okay at first until we asked for a real dinner plate for our food rather than paper in a basket. She didn't like that at all and barely said a word to us for the rest of the meal. I asked the owner if any of the 4 red wine offerings would be coming from an unopened bottle and he got indignant and walked off shaking his head. He later poured our drinks and brought them to the table without a word. My medium burger was small, paper thin and burnt. My wife's chicken was silver dollar sized and dry. We walked by 4 employees on the way out, including Kurt, and no one said a word. I guess it was a good riddance. Sorry Kurt, but your blase attitude has become pervasive. read more

This restaurant has the potential to be really good. Unfortunately, they just fall short in most areas. My food arrived about 5-10 minutes after my wife's food. My dish was missing the jalapeño cornbread which was a key component to the dish. My wife's burger was overcooked. Just overall poor service with poor execution in the kitchen. This place has the worse customer service I have EVER encountered. We sat down and had our menus and silverware thrown down, we were not at all greeted by rude little man. We asked for a Coors Light and were told .. ' I am busy and it's just like you city people to ask'. Well rude little man.... We were two elderly ladies that grew up and live in a small town in SW Minnesota with a population of 1700 people. Zokas is one of those places that you know if a favorite of every local in a 50 mile radius. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by truly kind and authentic individuals and smiles all around. They have events and dinner specials throughout the year for Easter, Father's Day, Halloween, etc. Amazing selection of lunch and dinner options, beers, hand crafted cocktails and more! Living in Denver, I wish I could make it out here more often but it is always a must after camping nearby or mountain biking little scraggy a few miles away. Never change Zoka's! read more

After a morning outside cutting down a Christmas tree, we were starving. There are not many options up here so I was happy to discover some tasty sammies. The kitchen allowed me to order a turkey Reuben which featured Zika's smoked turkey. It was delicious. K enjoyed the green chili and the turkey and cheese sandwich. S devoured his classic Reuben. We stopped in on a weekday afternoon to grab some lunch. Being vegans, its sometimes difficult to find decent food in the mountains when you want to go out to eat, though many local restaurants do try, and Zoka's is no exception. The waitress was very sweet and kind and took her time explaining what on the menu we could order as vegans and what alterations could be made to make a dish vegan. We typically have a hard time with quinoa which was in their Hemp burger- however since we had driven all the way to Pine from our house in Bailey and its pretty much the only item on the menu other than salad - we decided to chance it. Fortunately, we were not disappointed! The server brought us some carmelized onions and mushrooms unbidden, thinking they would be a good substitute for cheese - very thoughtful. The burger itself was quite good, and mostly hemp and lentils, and very little quinoa, so this burger held together nicely, had a good heartiness to it, and was satisfying and tasty. We ordered it with the ciabatta bun instead of brioche as well. Next time I would ask for some avocado or guac and jalepenos if they have any to add to it for extra kick. The French Fries were really really good! Thick cut and crispy, very tasty. The server had forgotten to get me a beer I had ordered and when I asked her about it when the food came, she was extremely apologetic and gave me the beer for free since she had forgotten (it had only been maybe 10-15 minutes between ordering and the food coming out, no biggie). Very good service and pretty decent vegan option. Although I would love to see more options for dinner - I am sure they would have no issues modifying something to make it vegan friendly. All in all, we would be back and add this to our list of options for eating out up here! read more

Just finished the worst meal of 2021 at Zokas. We were entertaining our neighbors for what we thought was going to be a night of special menu items as promoted for several weeks by the owner Kurt. We all ordered different items off the specialty Mexican menu and it was god awful!! Taco Bell is 4 star compared to the dry meat, stale tortillas with sauce that tasted like it was made from an Old El Paso mix packet. The guacamole was the consistency of toothpaste with about the same flavor.We have lived in Pine. Colorado for over 4 years and unfortunately will not return to once was our favorite place to get really good food. Over the past year, the quality has been sliding down and tonight they hit bottom. read more

Finishing up a long drive through the mountains on county road 126 and stumbled upon this gem. Zoka's is a dog friendly bar and grill. Stark (my golden retriever) and I are sitting on the patio overlooking a gorgeous view of the mountains. The Indian Summer cocktail is exactly what I needed, it's refreshing and as my boyfriend puts it "that's trouble".... I think I'll drink a few more. I HIGHLY suggest the House Honey Smoked Salmon. It is the best thing I've eaten in days! The salmon is perfect, you couldn't make it better. Bo is enjoying the Zoka burger, I'm not sure what I enjoyed more! It's very tasty!
