Going in, I knew the restaurant was gorgeous but pictures don't do A.B. justice. As soon as you enter, you see the semi-circle velvet seating, the intimate booths and this amazing bar display. I immediately had a snap a picture! Early as usual, I started off at the bar where they have a nice HH menu. I tried one of the recommended cocktails that was very good. The calamari was BANGIN! My friend schooled me and said it was tempura style which was why it tasted so good. Well, other restaurants need to take notes.. For real! Once we were done at the bar, the lovely hostess led us to our booth for dinner. We kept it simple, I had the Delmonico Ribeye sliced and she had the Branzino. She's a hard critic, much harder than me and she had to admit, both meals were BOMB!! Prepared perfectly, we both agreed.. We'll be BACK! Acqua Bistecca is a hidden jewel in upper upper NW Washington, DC, in a small newer living/shopping area with garage parking just footsteps away. My wife also got the wine pairing for $45- you get four glasses of wine, so it's a good deal. Natalia was our waitress and she was great. She was very friendly and service as usual was spot on. I opted for a la carte and got our usual Grilled Spiced Wild Calamari - still delicious and the Pappardelle. This is one of my favorite dishes here. Most of the pasta dishes here are really good, so you can't go wrong with any of those selections. For the special Valentine's Day menu, the Beef Tartare & Smoked Bone Marrow and the Roasted Lobster Fra Diavolo was definitely the highlight of the evening. The beef tartare was sitting on top of the bone marrow, and they served a really large piece of bone marrow! The Roasted Lobster Fra Diavolo needs to be on the regular menu- it was that good. The lobster tasted like it was cooked sous-vide because it was so light and tender. This dish also came with Key West Shrimp. The Squid Ink Tagliatelle pasta was al dente - just perfect. There is a parking garage underneath the building. They do provide parking validation.

The restaurant is on the dark side so you have to tip your menu toward the table light. I was in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs ( not on the menu) but the waitress took the order without a problem. I also ordered garlic bread. She brought a glass of water and I decided on a glass of wine, pinot noir I think. The garlic bread and wine arrive quick. I'm enjoying the first piece of garlic bread and sipping the wine. Nice! The spaghetti and meatballs came out shortly thereafter. I was a disappointed with this part of the meal. Meatballs lacked flavor. No garlic, no parmesan cheese. The pasta was fine but the sauce was watery and didn't taste like gravy at all. I ate most of it, the garlic bread accenting the meal with the wine. I will probably go back. I like the small mom and pop restaurants like I'm Eddie Cano. Service was very good. I was able to get a reservation. The place was clean. It's coming up on comfort food season and I'm always in the mood for Italian.

I'm partial to the Maggiano's Salad--it's always a favorite. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and the meatballs, and both were excellent. Our entrée selections were the Four-Cheese Ravioli, Chicken Parmigiana, Beef Tenderloin Medallions, and Shrimp Fra Diavolo. While the Four-Cheese Ravioli was our least favorite, the Beef Tenderloin Medallions were the clear winner of the table. For dessert, the family-style meal included all three options: chocolate cake, cheesecake, and butter cake. The unanimous favorite was the butter cake--it was absolutely delicious! A side of broccoli may have been the best broccoli I've ever had from a restaurant. Also included was grilled bread, but we passed on the bread due to the abundance of the rest of the food.
