Leave aside the food and service, both of which used to be far better. (Pete's once had a handful of locations in the area; they're now down to just one.) Leave aside the daily specials, which no longer exist. What really bothers me is that Pete's charges an extra 3% fee if you don't pay in cash (this includes both credit and debit cards) -- and they charge you another fee, which is almost 5%, if you you don't dine in. If you order online, I think also hit you with yet another "convenience" or "service" fee; check the fine print on your receipt, since the fee is bundled together with taxes. Look, I get that everyone's expenses are up. I get that to-go bags and boxes aren't free. But I hate being nickeled and dimed. read more

I must say, I was incredibly impressed with the pizza at Pete's New Haven Style pizza. I've never had this style of pizza before so wasn't sure what to expect which is why I was always on the fence. But we finally ordered it for take out tonight and it was good!! Got a basic cheese for my kids who don't like the good stuff and we ordered a pizza with pepperoni, sweet sausage, garlic and caramelized onions. The ingredients tasted so fresh and the crust had this crispiness to it that was delicious! I never had New Haven style pizza prior to coming here, so I was excited to try some of their veggie offerings. I would say that they did prepare the pizza better than 80-85% of pizzerias in DC, so I will give them props for doing that. I will also be interested to try their other flavors too. In terms of the location, they have plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. You order at the front then proceed to sit anywhere. My friend and I waited 10ish minutes for our food, and the service was pretty nice. There was also someone cleaning the tables at all times, so the place felt clean to dine at too. Always a solid experience at Pete's. Every time we visit home and go to Nana's house in Chevy Chase, we make plans to visit this place. We've actually hosted two birthdays here in the past few years, that's how much we like it. You order at the counter, get a number, find a seat, and they bring it out. It's a spacious dining area and always clean. Pro tip - they have beer in bottle and tap. We usually get two big pies to share. It's not NY Pizza, nor do they claim to be - it's Connectict pizza. I find the crust could use more taste, but they do a good job on toppings, although somewhat sparse. Also, $25 or more for a pizza is high - but taste and price is very subjective. A very tasty white garlic pizza which I'll order again. They are also very consistent in what they produce. read more

I got the Merritt Parkway, with prosciutto, caramelized onions, Kalamata olives, EVOO, and basil. The 14" was $19 and enough to feed two people. The Staven was great too, with hot sausage, pepperoni, roasted garlic, hot cherry peppers, and cartelized onions. I'm not exactly sure what "New Haven style" pizza is but Pete's APizza makes thin crust pizza that has a great crispiness to it. Came here during a lunch break. The decor is a cute quaint pizza parlor. Ordered wings, salad and pizza. I was excited but quickly let down. I picked up my order and walked to the office across the street and the food was cold this is where it started. The wings were dry and the chicken over cooked they were inedible. It was definitely better than other places in the dc area, but as someone from the area, this was not new haven style to me, there were no char marks, no coal fired oven, no crispy charred bottom, and i think the mushrooms were not fresh. Not good. Their pizza dough was hard, like an over toasted, crunchy crust. Not very cheesy either. We ordered some pasta dishes (party of 7) and all of us coincided that their sauces were bland. We were literally passing around the salt and pepper shakers. I didn't find the staff friendly or welcoming. The soda fountain area smelled like pee, it is close to the restrooms so I guess that had something to do with it but they definitely needed to check those restrooms. Pretty good. I lived in New Haven for over a decade and this bears not that much resemblance, if anything it's more a decent New York style. Crust is crunchy here and thankfully it's a lot thinner than a lot of other places. There's something missing about the flavor profile and the burning of the crust though as far as New Haven goes. Literally my second fav pizza place in the district, the service is always fast and reliable and the staff is nice and always timely with their work. The pizza is great and never cold and it's usually quiet in here unless there's a birthday party or something, always serving the local hs' and the kids are respectful and kind. My family and I recently visited Pete's while we were on a short vacation in DC. My wife and I previously visited the Clarendon location in 2018 (before it closed a year later). One thing we love is that all of the specialty pies have names that reference things in New Haven, such as "Long Wharf", "The Coliseum", "Q Bridge", etc. After looking over the menu, my wife and I ordered and shared the "Tomato Pie" (tomato sauce, pecorino cheese, olive oil, garlic, oregano) and "The East Rock" (white pizza, ricotta, mozzarella, fontina, pecorino romano, extra virgin olive oil). Not quite as good as the real thing, but still a VERY good pizza. Crust was nice and crisp, the way we like it. We also ordered an "Original Cheese with Pepperoni" pizza for our older son and the "Kids Spaghetti and Tomato Sauce" for our younger son. It was nice to have a taste of home when we were so far away. We look forward to returning on future trips to DC! read more

Terrible experience in every way. They contract with a third-party ordering and delivery service that never delivered our order. When I called to correct the problem, the staff was rude and refused to take any action to fix the situation until I pressed them several times. Only after that did the manager place me on hold to speak with the third-party delivery service, but then the manager hung up on me while I was on hold. After I called them back, the manager continued to be rude to me but at least informed me that I would be issued a refund. Two hours later and I have no pizza but had to sit through a phone lecture about why it wasn't their fault. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!! read more

We tried pick up from Pete's and were very happy with the pizza! The ingredients all tasted very fresh and of high quality. We tried a pepperoni pizza (if ordering online then it's "original cheese" plus pepperoni topping) and margarita. Both were great! It was fun to get the huge American 18" size which doesn't seem to be so easy to find anymore. A bit pricy but it's located in Friendship Heights... so that's to be expected. They have outside seating these days which looked really nice with little lights and a nice atmosphere. Someday we hope to try out this outside seating! read more

I used to come to Pete's all the time when I lived in friendship heights and recently stopped by while in the neighborhood, a few things have changed like their online ordering system but still overall good pizza. Pete's is casual, no frills, and super quick. I ordered a personal pizza through the online system and my pizza was out in ~10-15 minutes so its great if you're in a hurry or just want a quick bite. The pizza with the fried eggplant and ricotta is a must! The craft sodas on tap are super tasty. Overall would definitely recommend if you're in the neighborhood. Its a great reliable local spot. I can't say its the absolute best pizza in the city but its really good, especially if you're into new haven style pizza which to me is more or less new york pizza thats a little thinier with a little more chew. read more
