Ok so this Mississippi boy is in Pennsylvania! Coatesville Pa to be exact! I found this gem via a local recommendation. When I showed up you know the drill, I ask the server what is good. Skeptic Alert! She tells me EVERYTHING! Oh no my spider sense in in overdrive. So I start my deep dive of the menu. So what is the verdict? Well this place is a family affair that has been in business for 65 years! It was full of locals, a real where everybody knows your name feel. Yet, they seemed to draw in some new blood ( not just me.) So they must have some solid reputation point. I am here to say... it was good. Ok so I did kinda set that up. First I ordered French Onion Soup. It was very well done. Great flavors with out overkill on salt ( a major sin of many French onion wannabes) perfect toast on the cheese and nice broth with onion no mix. Next up was a prime rib. They had a ton of appealing offerings but I really wanted meat. The rib was cooked perfectly albeit a bit different from what I am accustomed to. Nice sides selection, I went with baked potato (on the bland side but cooked perfectly. My other side was Spinach, good flavor but personally I would have skipped chopped and used whole leaf with olive oil and minced garlic. Was it a bust no just again done differently than my usual. So I also had some cheesee garlic bread. While I wouldn't have normally done this it was a nice touch. Ended with Sweet potato pie. Sadly it was not special but just plain. Service was Fantastic. Atmosphere Wonderful. The Owner clearly takes pride in his shop and he should. I recommend this if your in the area and I will be back. I want to try the Cuban sandwich, some more soups and may give their pasta a go. read more

Hate this place. Went 2 times. Both times I found the staff to be unfriendly and the food of extremely poor quality. The building is run down and old. It is not definitely not the cleanest restaurant around. If you want to great diner, try aunt Jenny's south of gap or double D diner. TL;DR: Food excellent but lacked heat. 4/5 Where: Little Chef Order: 20 Mild Chicken Wings Order Placed: Around 1:15pm(~10min) Order Delivery EST: 2:05pm-2:15pm Order Arrived: 1:45pm(~25min early) Food Quality: Wings were cooked well. Had some extra crisp on some ends but that didn't detract from flavor. Sauce was indeed mild but had less heat than I expected and pooled at bottom of container. I supplemented with my own sauce. Complementary Celery and Blue Cheese perfecto! Would I Come Back/Recommend?: Absolutely Overall: Very good. I will be ordering again and this time more than before. Tried this during a visit for a soccer tournament. The Little Chef is quaint, clean, and modern. Our various breakfast choices included eggs, sausage, bacon, french toast, pancakes, home fries, toast and coffee. Everything was as good as grandmom's - and I mean that in the very best way. We wanted a simple dinner and ended up getting an amazing meal. It's listed as a diner but definitely much better food than any diner I've ever been too. The fresh made rice pudding was flying out of the pan so we tasted it and ended up with a large order to go. We also tried the homemade chili and turkey club and they were absolutely amazing as well. I will definitely order the hot roast beef sandwich again. We loved the warm friendly environment but meeting Olympia was the best. We will definitely go back soon. read more

I have mixed thoughts of this review, I couldn't decide between 3 or 4 stars. I settled on the 4, but not sure why. Service was polite, friendly and okay. Had to remind our server of a few forgotten items, but not a big deal, as soon as we asked the item was delivered with a smile. The atmosphere is nice, "hometown" feel. Food arrived hot and in a decent time. Wife had the Roast Beef Sandwich with Au Jus ( forgotten ) and sweet potato fries. She really enjoyed it and said it was good. I had a bowl of French Onion Soup, plenty of flavorful stock, minimal chopped onion with house croutons/bread holding up the thick chewy browned cheese. It was good, but just average. I then had the Reuben. One side of the bread wasn't grilled enough, very light and soft while the other side was perfect. There was too much 1000 Island dressing that overpowered all other flavors. Although I could see there was Swiss cheese, it was thin and couldn't taste it. The corned beef was typical pre-cooked diner style, just okay and a minimal amount of sauerkraut. I would have liked to see at very least, more kraut, more swiss, less dressing. The fries were basic frozen, coated fries, but were served crisp and hot. Would we return? Yes, Would I recommend, no. All in, it was okay. I've struggled with 3 or 4 stars, leaning toward 3, but yes, I gave 4 for what it's worth. read more
