Went in for lunch by myself and was a little disappointed to see the selection on the lunch menu - didn't seem very unique at all. So I ordered cold noodles with pork and pea sprouts. Nice flavor but not very spicy...at least not as spicy as if you ordered a bowl on the streets in Chengdu. That's not the restaurant's fault - I suppose when you live thousands of miles away from the region, spices tend to taste less vibrant than if you were eating locally in somewhere like Chongqing or Chengdu. It would have been nice if the noodles could be mixed with the ingredients before serving. I will go back but next time I'll bring a few of my peeps to be able to order more interesting dishes. We came here on a weekday with some friends and this place was packed for dinner time. Seeing this was our first time, our friends who frequent this place ordered a lot of food. If you're looking to branch out beyond Chow Mien, Broccoli Beef, and traditional Cantonese food this place is a great place to start. The spicy and flavorful dishes are incredibly reflective of traditional Chengdu food. My favorite thing we got was the combination dish that came with a shrimp, beef, braised pork ribs, intestine, vegetables, corn, spicy potatoes, even spam. It was so good I didn't even get a good photo before we had dug in. Haha. We ordered the chongqing style fried chicken, fish with green chili peppers in broth, sour beans and pork, pork kidney and a mix of different meat in chili oil broth. They literally dropped off 3 pieces of napkins and left the table a mess without helping us clean it up. We also got a great fried chicken knee cartilage dish which reminded me a lot of nankotsu kaarage as well as a spiced eel dish that I didn't like as much. You know this place is good if 90% of the patrons speak Mando. Dont know what else to say about his place this place compare to other Szechuan chinese spicey food that you wouldn't know already. Its Szechuan type flavors, if you know how Szechaun cooking taste then you would not be disappointed by Little Chengdu. Dont come here expecting a lunch menu, dont expect a extensive noddle menu - my kids cant eat spicey and there isn't anything for them except a beef noodle soup. Honestly this is a dinner menu type of Chinese restaurant and you will not be disappointed. As most of you may know, some of the flavors in Szechuan cooking are very similar because of the mainstay ingredients they use. But if you eat this type of food often you will know the different variations and nuances by technique and ingredients transforms the flavors. Compare to other Szechuan restaurants the distinction of the flavor profile is more pronouce here. The smoke duck we ordered is quite unique, very similar to a smoke turkey leg in amusement parks but with much deeper flavor profile, not dry and very succulent. The couple's delight here is good but i can think of 2 resturants in the peninsula that is better and many more that are not as good as Little Chengdu, The numbing fish is good, up there with the best in the general area. We order a bunch of other dishes that you can get from all the other great tasting Szechuan restaurants in the BayArea and it is just as good here if not better. read more

You may see 17% service fee was pre charged into the amount; then they even asked me to pay tips again. Fortunately I asked how the bill was calculated. I'm not an expert on Szechuan cuisine by any means, but this has got to be one of the best places places to try it in its authentic form. First off.. the portions are enormous. They must expect you to have 12 people at your table. At least double the portion size id expect. Value is excellent when you take that into account. There's a wait but it moves pretty quick. Dining room is modern and very clean and well lit. Service is efficient but English isn't their first language so rely on the QR code to do the ordering and you'll get little help if you ask questions about the dishes. But the food is sooo good! Hot and Sour Soup - the "small" bowl serves 5 generously. An excellent rendition of a classic. Great wood ear mushrooms and lots of tofu and bamboo shoots. Tasted fresh and well spiced. Mu shu chicken: we picked one western style dish and this was amazing. Great wok flavor, the right balance of meat and veggies, and leftovers for days. Snow pea greens: crisp, tender, not too fibrous, not too garlicky. Maybe the best I've had. Fish fillet with tofu - we didn't choose well. Lots of numbing heat and strange funky fermented chilis. Not a dish for noobs! But very high quality ingredients and they probably did an excellent job for what the dish is supposed to be (we think). Prices were more than fair given the portion sizes. Parking was easy on the street. We can't wait to get back and try lots of the other dishes, especially more of the challenging ones. read more

The boys and I ordered the roasted fish, tea smoked duck, crispy beef with chilis, and chicken in chili oil (cold) with a few beers each. Honestly, there was enough food for probably another three people. We did request that the whole roasted fish was extra spicy which meant that it was at the level that we enjoyed. This is such a trip down memory lane! Little Chengdu is supposed to be associated with the original Little Sichuan 福恩園 in San Mateo and that was almost 30 years ago! We have visited twice already and are so happy the craftsmanship and flavor are just as good as we remembered. Let me start off by saying I have excellent taste. I am aware of supposed authentic restaurants that instead cater to the less adventurous American pallet. Little Chengdu on the other hand is authentic as can be. My wife and I came in on a weekday afternoon right at opening and were quickly seated. We ordered through the QR code on the table which was fast and efficient. We got the spicy crispy beef and the spicy beef in chili oil. There were actually so many dishes I wanted to try but we started with these two and will definitely be back to try more. I will say if you are the type of person to just order fried rice and sweet sour pork, though they do have those dishes I assume, there are plenty of options for fast easy Chinese food. At little chengdu I recommend trying the authentic Szechuan dishes as they truly are very special. The price here is reasonable and the portions are very generous. Horrible service, I asked the waitress if a lunch special dish is available, she acknowledged and sat me down. Without clarifying whatsoever, she ordered the non-lunch version (costlier) when I had no idea there was even a distinction. While it's a small price difference, when I pointed out at checkout that as a solo diner in a hurry it's obvious I wanted the lunch special, and more importantly as a first time customer I expected them to be responsible, she complained "how do I know you're a first time customer". Mind you that this location just opened weeks ago. Food was ok, but what pulled the last string was when I told them I'm OK not taking out the leftover portions because they claimed the "lunch special" is smaller, they said it's fine and packed them for me. But the portions was significantly smaller than what I'd left on the plate, so who knows what they'd done with the rest.
