Plate of crispy Tripitas
Javier J.

We stooped by for a COLD BEER and found it. We also had an order of 'tripitas' and my fish, they were fried crispy and were very tasty, served with their tasty green chili salsa. Great place to come to. The waitress was very friendly and always ready to replace your 'empty bottle'.

I was at the Outlet mall and needed to pick up something to take home to eat. I had heard about this place and wanted to see what the hype was all about, so I stopped in. The menu has something for everyone- not a Mexican food lover, well, there are hamburger baskets and fries. I did go for the Gordita stuffed with chunks of pork in a red sauce that was seasoned just right. I did get a side of fries that I will ask to be crispier next time because that is just my preference but the size of the side order was good. I also got a churro- warm and crispy and soft on the inside with lots of cinnamon sugar. Evy was wrapped perfectly so as to not spill or leak and stay warm until I got home. I did not have to reheat anything! The gentleman that was helping me was very friendly and told me about the history of the restaurant and showed me the wall of awards and memorabilia. A few famous faces have dined here including a member of the Eagles, former President Bush and others. Some of their items were featured in Gourmet magazine and they have been a category on Jeopardy! They do have several TVs and all kinds of beers if you want to have you game watch party there- why cook? I am so glad I stopped in and tried this place out!

Su y a cute little local spot. The food was good, I ordered everything chicken, and the chicken was a little dry for my taste. Next time I'll choose beef instead so it can have a little bit of taste and juicy flavor. Overall, great experience! Ana was a wonderful waitress!

Chili verde on top. Chile Colorado on the bottom

Contrary to previous posts, this place was swamped and understaffed at 11:30AM on a Friday. It was a good sign when their parking lot was full. So many people were leaving with large trays of takeout. We opted to dine in because I wasn't going to wait to eat the food. Quickly seated ourselves. They had two servers until reinforcements arrived at noon. They were all attentive, honest, and friendly. Ordered a bunch of gorditas and loaded nachos. Was warned off the bat that the nachos are kind of plain compared to the chili con queso. It's whatever. We were hungry and we usually get an appetizer. But for $15, you'd expect it to come with more "loaded" ingredients like sour cream, guacamole and your choice of meat if it was steak or chicken. Basically, it was chips, ground beef, refried beans, and nacho cheese. It did come with a bowl of their salsa. Was it good? Yes. My family and I gave it the consensus of 5.7/10. Next we had a train of gorditas. My daughter wanted a quesadilla but that was not what this place was popular for. Soooooo... she gets a bean Gordita. We also got two chili verdes, two chile colorados, three barbacoas, and one chicken Gordita. The Gorditas were solid! The sauce that came with the Barbacoa was made of lava! I swear! I couldn't feel my bottom lip and my tongue was fuego! As a family, we agreed to rate the Gorditas 7.7/10! Overall, this hole in the wall was a good find. Their marketing is top notch and so was their service. I'd recommend it to anyone in the area! Give them a try if you haven't.

Absolutely the best Gordita's I've ever had. Might be the best place I've found in El Paso area so far. Found this place on a recommendation from instagram, and glad we did. Waiter recommended the Combination plate (Gordita, taco, enchilada) and mentioned that the Chili Colorado Gordita was his favorite. So I ordered all of it. Plus queso dip for the table, on top of the chips and salsa provided. Combination plate was very good, absolutely delicious. The chili Colorado Gordita was amazing, just packed with flavor. Will definitely order Gordita's the chili Colorado way next time we go.

Meat Gordita plate

Little diner is nostalgic for me, but they aren't as good as I remembered from childhood. We used to come for the gorditas (usually meat and barbacoa), so that's what I ordered. The barbacoa was good, but the meat ones were a little dry. They could have used some sauce inside (queso, crema, etc.) but the shell is still tasty and crunchy. I put lots of salsa on it which was tasty, since it is within the spice level most salsa eaters enjoy. My brother got the bean and cheese burrito (a classic anywhere) and it was very tasty. The service was very good and also genuine. I've never described service as genuine, but if you go, you'll probably see what I'm talking about. Portions were on the smaller end if that's what you're looking for. But I cannot say enough about the flan. The flan was 10/10 perfect. The best way I can describe it is to say it is more of a custard-type flan. To me there are two types of flan, gelatin flan and flan made that is custardy as if made with actual eggs. Now there is also too-eggy type custard flan, but this was just the right balance. The flavor was also a little more complex that I'm used to, which was a nice surprise. Best flan in El Paso that I have tried so far.

Just a good vibe from everyone working there!

Peppe's restaurant in Canutillo, Texas characterizes itself as a "New Mexican Food Restaurant" so…read morenaturally I just had to drive down to see what it is all about. Since I have lived in New Mexico for many years and dined in all the Mexican food restaurants in Las Cruces as well as others around the state, I have a sound point of reference as to what is good New Mex cuisine. Inside the restaurant is nicer than you might expect from viewing it from the outside. It is full of light, open, clean, and a comfortable place for dining. Upon entering I was greeted by a friendly gentleman and told to sit wherever I wanted. There are two dining areas, a smaller room near the entrance and a larger dining area through an archway. The seating is exclusively on banquet chairs with large tables. A waitress was at my table within a minute or two with a menu, a bowl of chips and a little glass flask with salsa. The service was very pleasant and efficient. Everybody working there seemed most friendly and accomodating. Wanting to sample a wide variety of their "New Mexican" food I ordered the #3 combo plate. It was prepared and on my table within eight to ten minutes. It came with Spanish rice, whole pinto beans, a rolled taco filled with ground beef, an enchilada, a chile relleno, and red chile con carne, A small dish of their coleslaw was served on the side. So, how did the food taste? Was it "New Mexican?" Was it good? High in quality New Mex food? Let's find out. The enchilada was covered in their red chile sauce with a bit of shredded cheese. Their rolled taco was sandwiched between the enchilada and the relleno and strangely enough it was sitting in the red sauce which made it impossible to pick up and eat with your hands. Strange way to serve a rolled taco??? The relleno had no sauce over it. The plate had the appearance of New Mex food, but what of the quality? To begin, the chips were very ordinary. They rate about a "C." The tomato based salsa was low on flavor and heat. Very mediocre salsa. Rate it a "C"...no better. The beans were a bit bland and quite undistinguished. Give them a C." The rice was the usual. Rate the rice a "C+." It was fluffy and prepared well. The rolled taco which had to be eaten with a knife and fork was somewhat tough and chewy with little corn flavor. The beef filling was not very well seasoned. Rate the rolled taco a "C-." Not something to look forward to. The enchilada was ok as far as it went but the red chile sauce...THE HALLMARK OF NEW MEX CUISINE...covering it was not good. The red chile sauce at Peppe's was really below the New Mex standard. Thus, the enchilada rated about a "C." The chile con carne had some properly sized and tender chunks of pork but again the red chile sauce had little flavor and was quite bland. Not up to the New Mexican standard. Rate the red chile con carne about a "C." Rate the red chile sauce a "C-." Not the stuff of legend. The relleno was plainly speaking not very good. The coating and the chile pepper itself were both soft and mushy with little flavor. Rate Peppe's chile relleno this day a "D" for poor. The coleslaw was vinegar based and not mayo based. It had therefore a little zing to it but at the end of the day it was nothing to write home about. Rate it a "C." So, all in all, I came away a little disappointed. Although I like the restaurant and found the people there nice and the service very good, I found all the food, while not bad, (relleno excepted) to be very pedestrian. I hate to say this given how pleasant the people at Peppe's are but I did not find one food item that was really good. None of this was a good version of New Mexican cuisine. Thus, rate the overall dining experience at Peppe's in Canutillo THREE AND A HALF STARS....not bad but not a great experience for for a full serve restaurant. Everything tasted today was "C" level food. The folks that pass out five star ratings I can only say that they must have a very limited perspective regarding New Mex cuisine.
