Needed an ice cold beer and I found it here! Anyways, aside from the ice cold beer the fact that the food was delicious was a definite plus! We ordered the flauta plate with the homemade queso sauce and they truly hit the spot. The cheese is scrumptious. The flautas were freshly made and had the perfect amount of crunch and meat filling. Yum yum. Now, my absolute favorite food item that we ordered was the Tripas Tacos, they were not overly fried to were they are too crunchy or undercooked and gummy. They were perfect and ohhh soo good! The salsa and chips were very good also. The salsa was flavorful but VERY SPICY, I couldn't stop eating it although my whole mouth was on fire! If you don't eat spicy food BEWARE! As far as service goes, our waitress was friendly and greeted us with a smile. She gave us a few item recommendations once we told her it was our first time eating there. Everything she recommended was on point. The atmosphere was ok, it was a relaxed and quiet, granted there were only two other customers when I visited. This place is a hidden gem, nestled inside a small neighborhood and next to a school. I was at the Outlet mall and needed to pick up something to take home to eat. I had heard about this place and wanted to see what the hype was all about, so I stopped in. The menu has something for everyone- not a Mexican food lover, well, there are hamburger baskets and fries. I did go for the Gordita stuffed with chunks of pork in a red sauce that was seasoned just right. I did get a side of fries that I will ask to be crispier next time because that is just my preference but the size of the side order was good. I also got a churro- warm and crispy and soft on the inside with lots of cinnamon sugar. Evy was wrapped perfectly so as to not spill or leak and stay warm until I got home. I did not have to reheat anything! The gentleman that was helping me was very friendly and told me about the history of the restaurant and showed me the wall of awards and memorabilia. A few famous faces have dined here including a member of the Eagles, former President Bush and others. Some of their items were featured in Gourmet magazine and they have been a category on Jeopardy! Contrary to previous posts, this place was swamped and understaffed at 11:30AM on a Friday. It was a good sign when their parking lot was full. So many people were leaving with large trays of takeout. We opted to dine in because I wasn't going to wait to eat the food. Quickly seated ourselves. They had two servers until reinforcements arrived at noon. They were all attentive, honest, and friendly. Ordered a bunch of gorditas and loaded nachos. Was warned off the bat that the nachos are kind of plain compared to the chili con queso. It's whatever. We were hungry and we usually get an appetizer. But for $15, you'd expect it to come with more "loaded" ingredients like sour cream, guacamole and your choice of meat if it was steak or chicken. Basically, it was chips, ground beef, refried beans, and nacho cheese. It did come with a bowl of their salsa. Was it good? Yes. My family and I gave it the consensus of 5.7/10. Next we had a train of gorditas. My daughter wanted a quesadilla but that was not what this place was popular for. Soooooo... she gets a bean Gordita. We also got two chili verdes, two chile colorados, three barbacoas, and one chicken Gordita. The Gorditas were solid! The sauce that came with the Barbacoa was made of lava! I swear! I couldn't feel my bottom lip and my tongue was fuego! As a family, we agreed to rate the Gorditas 7.7/10! Overall, this hole in the wall was a good find. Absolutely the best Gordita's I've ever had. Might be the best place I've found in El Paso area so far. Found this place on a recommendation from instagram, and glad we did. Waiter recommended the Combination plate (Gordita, taco, enchilada) and mentioned that the Chili Colorado Gordita was his favorite. So I ordered all of it. Plus queso dip for the table, on top of the chips and salsa provided. Combination plate was very good, absolutely delicious. The chili Colorado Gordita was amazing, just packed with flavor. My wife used to go to Little Diner 40yrs ago when they were even smaller and in a different location. We were in town and when she mentioned it, I looked it and found they were still in business. Our meal was excellent and very reasonably priced which is nice to find in these days of high prices everywhere. My wife reported the shredded beef flautas were as good as she remembered. She usually doesn't finish her order and I'll get a taste to report on. Not this time. As I type this out, I realize I never got a bite! The waitress suggested the combo plate, which I had overlooked which was great for me since I wanted a taste of everything. I had a picadillo Gordita. Terrific masa shell and good flavor on the ground beef. However they don't use potatoes; just so you know. The barbacoa taco was probably the best I have had. Often barbacoa is greasy but this was moist, full of a flavor and didn't cause you to use every napkin on the table. The rojo chicken enchilada had great flavor with just the right amount of bitterness I enjoy in my red sauce. The chips and Salsa are not complimentary but so worth it. The flavor is awesome with just enough heat to give it some kick, without being over powering. They also have a red sauce that will leave you watering as you dive in and fail to realize the heat builds over time. We will definitely be back when we are back and you should for sure check them out. read more

Little diner is nostalgic for me, but they aren't as good as I remembered from childhood. We used to come for the gorditas (usually meat and barbacoa), so that's what I ordered. The barbacoa was good, but the meat ones were a little dry. They could have used some sauce inside (queso, crema, etc.) but the shell is still tasty and crunchy. I put lots of salsa on it which was tasty, since it is within the spice level most salsa eaters enjoy. My brother got the bean and cheese burrito (a classic anywhere) and it was very tasty. The service was very good and also genuine. I've never described service as genuine, but if you go, you'll probably see what I'm talking about. Portions were on the smaller end if that's what you're looking for. But I cannot say enough about the flan. The flan was 10/10 perfect. The best way I can describe it is to say it is more of a custard-type flan. To me there are two types of flan, gelatin flan and flan made that is custardy as if made with actual eggs. Now there is also too-eggy type custard flan, but this was just the right balance. The flavor was also a little more complex that I'm used to, which was a nice surprise. Way overpriced 16$ for a mex combo plate. Red Tamale had no flavor tasted like something reheated from a bag at Walmart. Taco had old dry hamburger meat that probably sat out in the open all day. Enchilada sauce was sour with unmelted cheddar cheese inside...The service was good but most likely because we were the only ones there. This time around, I thought I'd try something different so I ordered crunchy beef tacos. The order comes with three tacos and they were petty sizable. That was the only positive I can say. The meat was bland and had no seasoning. The taco shells looked and tasted pre-made. I wasn't sure if they were store bought but they were the pretty much the same type. Went to the Animal Rescue League to donate dog food today and found the Little Diner nearby! Omg. I couldn't stop eating the Gorditas and Tapatias. We dined in because the service was so sweet but also ordered to go because they had an awesome special going on. I've been craving Gorditas since I had my 1st taste at Cafe Mayapan. This is just as good in a different way, the corn tortillas weren't as greasy at Little Diner but the ground beef seasoning was a lot more flavorful at Cafe Mayapan. What a cute little place! My grandfather and would come to the little diner many years ago still talk about how amazing the food was! Traveled to El Paso from Dallas and decided to have a stop at the little diner. It was incredible! We got the barbacoa taco plate and the combo plate. Everything was delicious, I couldn't stop eating the salsa! Then took a bite of the Gordita and WOW it was incredible!! The red meat with the crisp of the Gordita was everything I expected it to be and more! The service was exceptional and the atmosphere was perfect to look at the mountains during our meal! I haven't been here in years, mostly because they open at 11am and we are usually on this side of town in the mornings. Aunt A, while being born and living in El Paso most of her life, had never eaten here, so I made your try it. Let's start with the Chile Con Queso. My aunt didn't care for it. It tastes like the canned cheese and she said it was too "chunky". I, on the other hand, like the chunkyness of it. The canned cheese was a little stronger then I prefer, but I still found it okay. Reminded me of the old bowling alley nachos. I had the combo plate with a taco, 1 red enchilada and a gordita. The plate also came with rice and beans. The taco meat in the taco was pretty much flavorless. Once I added some salt and a bunch of their salsa, it wasn't that bad. The tomatoes were super fresh and it had cheese and lettuce. Not exactly what I would call a real taco; I prefer cilantro and lime, but some people like them like this. Hopefully you do to, because the gordita was exactly the same, but in a gordita shell. Interesting texture on the gordita. It was very grainy, but good. The red sauce on the enchilada was good. I normally eat only green, but it was a nice change. The rice and beans were the best part. As for the chile relleno plate, it had yellow cheese instead of the traditional white and they don't remove the seeds. Aunt A was very disappointed. They don't come with a sauce over the top, which she actually liked. Basically, it reminded me of an Mexican restaurant I would find in northern Minnesota, or anywhere else in small town America, that doesn't realize that Taco Bell (or Taco John's) is NOT really Mexican food. Had been here before but had not eaten here for couple years. Took friend there couple days ago, and was surprised that the food was bad. The delicious redish colored gorditas were terrible. The dough was not gordita dough - it was dry and plastic-like. The gordita did not even smell like gordita dough when properly fried. The ground beef was dry and had not taste. We just left food on plate - most of it. Maybe the cook had a bad day but something was done to the gordita dough that made it taste like leather. I like exploring the smaller towns surrounding El Paso. And Canutillo is only minutes away from where I live, so I find myself there quite a bit. The Little Diner seems to be a local favorite so I knew I had to check it out. The food is just simple homemade style Mexican food. Nothing out of the ordinary, but if you're in the area craving Mexican, LD is a good place for a stop. I did find the menu a tad pricey, but if you knock of the rice and beans it takes your price down 2 or 3 bucks. I ate the tamales with the beans and rice...it was okay. My foodie partner for the night ordered the enchiladas which I thought was more like what would happen if an enchilada and chilaquiles had a baby. It was two corn tortillas smothered in red chile sauce with some cheese and raw onions on top. I like it, my foodie partner did not (I think that's more of a personal preference kind of thing caused by having home cooked meals made a certain type of way). And the salsa was pretty hott. The atmosphere was kind of lackluster, but totally mama-y-papi so it's excusable. There really isn't a wait staff, you order at the counter and someone brings it back...but no one comes back to fill up your glasses or anything. Now I'm seriously wondering if refills are even free...that's worth checking into. The do have wi-fi though! Points for being kind of technologically savvy LD. All in all, I'd come back if I was in the nearby area and I'm definitely going to try the gorditas because that's all anyone is raving about on here. read more

This place continues to be fantastic. When I visited from Seattle I got guacamole, queso, chips, dip, and Chile Colorado. Tbe food is place is exactly how I remember it and our servers were great too. Now this place isn't fancy, but it hits all the right notes when you e as t it.
