I had the Bistro Combo, with the Asian Wrap and Chicken Tortilla soup paired with a nice Malbec. Loved every bit of it. My companions had a Raspberry Turkey Wrap and Apricot Turkey Sandwich. The Magic Bistro was a tasty, almost small town experience that brought back memories of my home town while also bringing in some new experiences. Food: $$ Decently priced lunch special that came with a soup, house salad, and half sandwich. I got the Reuben which had a delicate taste yet filled with meat and sauerkraut. The sandwich I felt was fairly balanced between both that left me knowing I would definitely be back again. The soup was chicken and wild rice and was decent. The soup consistency was thick and creamy but lacked much in the category of explosive flavor. Atmosphere: Very small town restaurant feel where the inside seems a little claustrophobic and outdated with mural painted walls, old wine cabinets with mirrors to make the restaurant seem larger. The layout inside is a little drab and I didn't really enjoy it much though I will say the outdoor seating area seemed sublime and will definitely come back to try that out. Overall: The food was good and atmosphere was strange but nostalgic. Though most dishes lacked in flavor, they were good enough to make me want to come back. A great place to have an event. We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday so we were able to rent out the inside of the restaurant. John the owner of the Magic Bistro was very accommodating. He worked with me regarding the sit down menu for the guests. He also had colored napkins with colored napkin rings. John called me a couple of times before the event to get a final headcount and suggestions on how to handle the drink menu. John did all the leg work. The staff provided exceptional service for about 50 plus people. The food was delicious and well presented. Thank you John and staff for a memorable birthday for my mother. read more

I cannot begin to tell you how disappointing this place was. I had been wanting to go there for a while and sadly it was not what I expected. The outdoor patio is nice but the amount of time we spent swatting flies killed the vibe. The water tasted like bathroom water.. very grossed out. Must've not been filtered..We ordered the bistro trio which came with a house salad, half a sandwich (I got the pastrami one) and a soup. (Tortilla soup). The salad came with a sweet raspberry style vinaigrette. That was the best thing on the plate. For the sandwich, Walmart pastrami was better, and the tortilla soup tasted very tex mex and flavorless with oversized cubes of chicken and a quarter size tomato bits. For desert I had the chocolate flan and that was a flop too. The custard in the flan was lumpy n curdly. Very disappointing all around meal. Scratch this place of my list and add to the dump pile. read more

WHEN THE MAGIC WEARS OFF Traverse through the Placita Santa Fe on the edge of El Paso and find a little passage surrounded in more greenery than you have ever seen in Sun City. You pass through a gate and see benches on either side. Patrons dining left and right in the warm desert heat. Enter the Magic Bistro and you are taken into an intimate setting that is every so cozy. Now, was it too good to be true? The FOOD Grilled Ribeye: NOW YOU TASTE ME, NOW YOU DONT The star of the show, a 12oz ribeye cooked to your liking with an ancho rub, herb compound butter, crispy shallots surrounded by roasted asparagus and a green chile cheese corn tart. You can taste the earthy ancho rub immediately, but the ribeye was underseasoned (-2 stars). The crispy shallots were like onion rings, while the roasted asparagus was chewy and dry (-1 star). The green chile cheese corn tart was a masterpiece of enhanced corn flavour, a mildly spicy hint of heat, with creamy and decadent melted cheese. There was a garden salad with a tangy pomegranate vinaigrette and a vibrant and spiced mango vinaigrette. Both dressings were sweet and maximized with fruity flavour. An Aside: I asked for medium rare and the ribeye came half medium and half medium well. The medium well portion had an unusual gray-pink color that I have usually seen with older meat. I tried a bite of the medium rare before realizing the other half was medium well. After I realized this, I had sent it back and I believe the owner checked it away from my table. A new ribeye came that was medium rare, but did not have the ribeye cap and was significantly chewier. I do not believe this replacement was a ribeye steak. Take this with a grain of salt, but I had a questionable dining experience. The VERDICT: PARADISE FOR SOME BUT NOT FOR ALL Magic Bistro offers a unique fine dining experience like an oasis to satisfy the tempted palate. With a beautiful interior and exterior decor embodying the beauty of the El Paso desert, this place offers a unique experience. The highlights of my Grilled Ribeye were the complex green chile cheese corn tart and the pomegranate and mango vinaigrettes. The ancho rubbed Grilled Ribeye was underseasoned and did not seem fresh. I've been eyeing this place for a while now and I was impressed by how much character the restaurant and the surrounding area had! Vintage shops with a vintage feel. Ambiance - There's a cute patio on the outside that's nicely decorated and the inside had plenty of seating. It's almost Valentine's so they had heart decor up everywhere and it wasn't too tacky! This would be a cute place for a Valentine's Day dinner. Service - Server was attentive and very helpful with the menu! Friendly and efficient. Food - Had the smoked chicken salad and colorado club sandwich w/ sweet potato fries. The salad was delicious and had a unique spin on it. Felt like a perfect picnic salad. The colorado club sandwich was decent but the fries and marshmallow sauce were delicious! Overall, cute restaurant with a bit of a different vibe. Lunch at Magic Bistro is somewhat a tradition in my boyfriend's family every time they're in town. I had the pleasure of experiencing it when we visited El Paso. Our table of 5 were seated outside under beautiful, natural shades from trees and flowers. The waiter was friendly and patient even though our party had a lot of requests. I got the Brisket Wrap with spicy fries and my boyfriend got the Penne Marinara Bowl. The rest had sandwiches, salads, a tortilla soup, and some bread to share. We ended the meal with a slice of Key Lime Pie, a slice of Carrot Cake, and a slice of Chocolate Lava Cake. Everything was delicious and we all enjoyed our meal. The only thing we will not order again is the Key Lime Pie, it was definitely a let-down. The carrot cake and chocolate lava cake were great, though! Overall it was a pleasant experience and we were all pleased with the food and service. We will stop by again next time we're in El Paso! read more

The front entrance patio at Magic Bistro is quaint and adorable. I bet it would be a cute date night spot with the hanging lights all around. I met up with a friend for lunch on a Friday and the patio was full so we sat inside. The interior could use some updating in my opinion... overall it's fine for lunch but I would opt for the patio for a date. There's an adjoining shop to the restaurant which is fun to walk around to check out some local finds. For lunch I ordered the Asian wrap with spicy fries. (It's a hot wrap, not a cold wrap) It was good but pretty messy. I think it had a little *too* much peanut sauce on it. I'll try something different next time so as not to be wiping my hands the entire meal. Spicy fries were delicious and I'll definitely be ordering those again. Well, 10+ years in the making, and we finally tried The Magic Pan. One word description....MAGIC!! From the decor, the service, the food, the cleanliness, everything was perfect. Lots of vegetarian and vegan choices (if your into that sort of thing!). I had the green chile quiche. Yum! Perfect savory crust. My aunt had the Grown Up Grilled Cheese and said it was marvelous! The key lime pie. I can't even put into words how delious it was. The crust was macadamia nuts and just made the pie. Heaven in my mouth!! My aunt had the tres leches cake and said it was perfection. Just the perfect amount of moisture. If you haven't tried it yet, GO! Just check out their hours before you go. They are open for breakfast and early lunch Tuesday through Sunday, but also open for dinners on Fridays and Saturdays (they close after lunch and reopen for dinner). Closed Monday's. It is located smack dab in the middle of a whole artsie, antique "mall" of sorts. Bring your shopping game!! Did I mention the outdoor patio? Beautifully shaded with water mist. However the last 3 visits we have gotten food that made 2 of us sick. Today my chicken tortilla soup tasted of Mold ! Strong taste of mold. Like moldy bread. My husband said his was was fishy instead of chicken. Salad ....The emperor's secret salad was a huge heap of lettuce and not much of anything else but 2 brown pieces of artichoke and a few blue cheese crumbles. My last visit I ordered the pork loin sandwich which had my stomach upset in 30 minutes. My sister ordered the Alfredo and she was also sick with in 30 minutes. We discounted that occurrence and decided to try it again. Very disappointing for today's visit. Prices are too high for terrible food. There are many good restaurants within a 5 mile radius. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! This is a MUST! I seriously want to make TMB a weekly trip (at least) because it's simply phenomenal! There really isn't a better place to write my 300th review about. Believe you me, we both left very full. And our main entrees ball-parked around $10. All deserts are $6 and under. Oh, and did I mention everything is priced very reasonably? Everything about TMB from the food to the service to the decor is truly magically. One word: yum! Topped with hot fudge and filled with vanilla ice cream. They were unfortunately out of the Molten Lava Cake so instead we went with the crepes. After my huge foodgasam, I knew I needed to try the dessert. It had this amazing smoky and slightly sweet taste that made it my favorite brisket-anything bar none. It's good I don't live closer to TMB because I would spend every waking moment here eating these. The brisket wasn't shredded, but diced and the whole thing was filled with sauteed onions and peppers. When I saw the Brisket Wrap I knew I was wrong about it being a fancy burrito. This really was the best thing I've EVER eaten! Perfect for dipping in the Alfredo (or even by itself)! Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The bread was delicious! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the whole thing was topped with melted cheese. Seriously the best I've ever had! The Alfredo sauce was incredible! My bread bowl looked and smelled better than I could've ever imagined. Our main entrees arrived a short time later. Quite a unique flavor! The house dressing is a cilantro-citrus dressing and it is delicious! It was a rather simple salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, shredded carrots, pecan (I could be wrong about what kind of nut it was), and a side of their house dressing. Loved this. My salad came out first. My foodie PIC went with the Brisket Wrap which I thought sounded a lot like a fancy way of saying "burrito". There was one thing that had been on my mind since I'd seen a picture...the bread bowl! He brought our drinks out immediately after we ordered them and allowed us more time to peruse the menu. Our waiter was very attentive and even remembered we had came in earlier. I absolutely adore that, since EP is greatly lacking in historically classy eateries. It's all very classy, but more like original classy...classic, if you will. There's a fireplace on the furthest wall that I'm sure makes for an amazing scene during the colder months. The inside of TMB is just as beautiful. They also have misters on high blast so the temperature outside stays at cool perfection. The trees that are on the patio provide a canopy of shade, but let in just enough sunlight to truly feel magical. I decided against sitting outside because most of the tables were filled, but I should've just opted for the patio because it's completely beautiful. I had to run some errands anyway so we disappeared for an hour and returned with our large appetites. My foodie PIC and I arrived as soon as they opened, but it turned out they open an hour before the restaurant does. Then last week came and I saw Andrea B.'s photo and said, "I need to go back, pronto!" TMB is connected to the actual Market Place (a store filled with a ton of different collectables) so that's actually where I found myself the first time I was here. Around a year ago I made a trip to the Market Place which is this awesome red shopping plaza out on Doniphan that houses vintage shops, handmade jewelry stores, hair salons and, you guessed it, TMB. Let's jump into all things magnificent, aka The Magic Bistro! Maybe for my 400th I'll write the words backwards as well. Well sort of. I had the green chile quiche today. It was a little spicy. Just enough without being hot. I loved it! I looked forward to the famous key love lime everyone raved about. Key lime pie is my favorite dessert! When I took the first bite, it tasted like a weak lemon pie - very bland lemon flavor. Key lime has more of a punchy lemony flavor. I wanted something else I said no the manager comes over gets in my face aggressively. It says so what was wrong with that you seem to hold plate back. We happened upon this magical bistro and now it's a special little getaway! Driving up to it, we didn't realize it was in the area we drive by, had to turn around, and went into the wrong driveway area. After parking, it looks like a secret garden entrance. It feels chic and fancy, but also like you're at your relatives house (due to great staff, conversational wait staff, who make you feel welcomed, and that you've always been part of the roots of the place). I asked a lot of recommendation questions, and my waiter was thoughtful, honest, and fun. He checked on us adequately. But was not overbearing! The KEY LIME PIE!! A traditional flavor profile but with a lighter and fluffier consistency, we raved about it for about a week! Definitely get the key lime pie! I'm skeptical about quiche but I ordered it since our waiter said it wasn't on the menu often. The crust was so light and flakey, and slightly buttery but not saturated with any one particular heavy flavor. Perfect as a sunny afternoon meal, with a mixed side salad and Italian soda. We sat in the patio which has strewn lights for the evenings, water mists sprayers, and just the right amount of tables for space and comfort. The water fountain toward the front host stand was relaxing as a background. I wish there were more bistros like this that gave them inviting atmosphere and plentiful, tasteful menu options Go. Enjoy. You'll be happier for it. Bonus is that the area doesn't lend to the fact there's a bunch of little shops within an unassuming parking lot! I think they need to do more advertising because none of my friends have heard of Magic Bistro and I think it's a great restaurant! We ordered calamari, beef short ribs, and sea bass. Everything was very good and had lots of flavor! I was very impressed by the short ribs. The meat was super tender and falling off the bone! It was awesome. The sea bass was also good and the sauce with it had a ton of flavor. We got the chocolate cake that was very rich and had chocolate chips on it that made it perfect! I am so glad I came here, not only for the restaurant, but also to discover that this place is located in a very artsy and crafts type area that I never knew existed. It is like a mini Old Mesilla. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out. It was way too windy for me and my friend to sit outside but it is amazing. I will have to come back to enjoy this experience. The inside has a huge, ornate mirror on one wall, and a smaller mirror on another. A third wall is painted with a mural- just beautiful. The wait staff was attired for an upscale eatery, and they were very friendly and attentive. This is an A+ in my book when women are dining alone. Our waiter recommended a spritzer/sangria type mixed drink. I had the white and my friend had the red- both were delicious and I was contemplating Uber when I reached the bottom of my glass. We shared the chicken satay appetizer which had a tiny bit of spice and a lot of great taste. There were six skewers so it was plenty to share. Every dinner selection comes with a salad. I had the house which had a perfect raspberry vinaigrette that was not too vinegary and allowed the flavors to come through. It also had nice pieces of nuts sprinkled over a mescaline mix. My friend had the Cesar, which was equally delicious. I ordered the ribeye steak medium rare. The meat was extremely tender. The serving was large but the meat was very thin- not what I was expecting. My friend ordered the short ribs. They came sitting on top of a pool of polenta, which was excellent. Then we had to do justice and order coffee and dessert. I had the bread pudding- it was warmmmm and wonderful. My friend had the double chocolate cake, and yes we shared! It was a wonderful evening and part of the ambiance was not the decor, but the families that came in for dinner- it was great to see a table of 12 getting together for a celebration. We have been here a number of times for lunch on a Saturday, with a few reviews from my wife or myself. The food has always been very good. We have been discouraged a couple of times with inadequate service. Today, a Saturday in early April, the service from our waiter, Andres, was exceptional. He checked on us a number of times and once he got help from management for a refill of my wife's excellent passion fruit ice tea. My wife had the mango chicken salad, it was good with lots of mango. I had the apricot pork tenderloin sandwich, very good. The only complaint would be that the side order of sweet potatoe fries was very small. But, at least they were very good. A new twist was the restaurant had a live guitar player in the outdoor courtyard. He, Julio Ortiz, was very good. The lunch was so relaxing with the music and the great food. In three years of living in El Paso, this was the best overall lunch we have ever had. Great service, great food, and great entertainment. It doesn't get any better! read more

I go here a lot with for lunch and usually like it here, but recently I went with a friend and, well...... When my friend didn't care for the dish, the manager and owner were less than gracious. There wasn't any need for the rudeness. I don't get it. All they had to say was, 'Sorry you didn't care for it. How can we make it right?' and be done with it. They seemed to take it very personally. The host sat me outside since they were renovating the insides but the weather was nice. The garden is nice outside with a peaceful water fountain. The bathrooms were a little hard to find and part of the inside is a little shop. Note that they do close in the middle of the afternoon. I ordered the Brisket Wrap with spicy fries like everyone suggested on here. It came out in about 5 minutes. The brisket was juicy and tender with a creamy chipotle sauce that had a nice kick. There were grilled peppers and onions inside that added a nice texture and flavor. The tortilla also had a nice crisp to it. It came with a couple of spinach leaves on the side. The fries were thick and flavorful. They weren't really spicy, more like spiced, similar Arby's curly fries. Overall, great food.
