If you're looking for comfort food that tastes like home, JJ's Mexican Restaurant is the place to go. Their menudo is absolutely amazing, itrich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It's the kind of dish you keep coming back for because it's consistently that good. Beyond the food, what really stands out is how family-friendly this restaurant is. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for coming with family or friends and actually enjoying your time together. Great service, great food, and a true El Paso staple. Highly recommend!

While in El Paso was told JJ's is the place to enjoy Gordita's. Stopped in to order to go. A beef Gordita plate comes with 3 stuffed with beans, beef lettuce tomato with delicious green sauce and beans and rice. So much food for under $12.00. Nice lady at the counter took my order and the small dinning room was pretty full of families enjoying their meals.

Some restaurants have great food but terrible service. Others have great service but bad food. This place has both covered. That's why I give it 5 stars. It's cozy, the food is delicious and traditional, and there's excellent management in both aspects.

One of my best friends is visiting me from out of town from Pennsylvania. She used to live in El Paso. There was a couple of places we wanted to order from but unfortunately they were closed on Mondays. We decided to order from JJ's since we both hadn't tried it before. I don't order Mexican food that often because I usually make it or one of my relative does. We'll have to make some soon since my friend is visiting! Anyway... I'm going to say 3.5 stars but round up to 4. Overall, the food tasted alright but not great. Most of my food needed salt, especially the rice and beans. I tried adding a little bit of red salsa to the gorditas. I didn't really like the taste of the red salsa so I decided not to use it. The cheese and tomatoes sort of helped give the gorditas more taste. Another thing I kind of didn't like is that JJ's doesn't sell soft drinks when you order off Uber Eats. I was hoping to get a Sprite but I wasn't able to. FYI, ordering food from Uber Eats is very expensive at this time. Ordering from JJs was no exception. They charge a small gas fee, along with a couple of other fees. I only ordered because we were really hungry and my friend was craving Mexican food. She says there's no where to really get Mexican food in Pennsylvania at this time without driving really far away. She and my bf both said the food was alright. She got red tamales and he got chicken fajitas. My friend said the tamales didn't have that much meat in them. Not sure if I would order from JJ's anytime soon. Probably not off of Uber Eats. I would have to go in person so that I don't pay those extra fees. The good thing about JJ's is that they have a pretty large menu to order from so...lots of choices for customers. P.S. My dog enjoyed all of the food!

JJ's in the EPT (El Paso Texas). I've got three gorditas on my table from a taco shop one mile from my motel room in West El Paso. Texting a friend who grew up here and they were lovingly adamant I go. I was convinced (thanks Yelp) already but when I heard they'd eaten there almost daily for 2 years, I got up and dressed myself for snacks. The gorditas and an horchata look just about perfect. I open the container of the verde sauce and wince at the zap of searing heat in my nostrils. I nod in approval and fork on a timid albeit healthy amount on my snack. I chew and my eyes close as I begin to nod "yes". I sit up and start writing this after my first bite. I haven't moved the drink yet as I'm still savoring this fried goody. I'd like to thank LilMfkr for the recommendation along with Yelp (*wink). I'm going to go finish my snacks. Be good to each other and eat more gorditas.

I had just flown in from the airport, and my brother arranged it as a special family gathering. Everything started normally: we were seated, ordered our food, received our drinks, and enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Then my sister (who is LGBTQ+) stepped away to use the restroom. When she returned and sat down, a manager approached our table and loudly told her--in front of other diners--that "MEN cannot use the female restroom." My sister was mortified and humiliated by the public confrontation. The manager's tone and assumption were shocking and clearly discriminatory. We immediately got up and left without eating. This wasn't about enforcing any legitimate policy; it was rude, insensitive, and targeted. My adult sister is perfectly capable of reading the restroom signs herself--no one needed to police or shame her in such a way. The incident felt rooted in homophobia and transphobia from management. We will never return to this place, and we will actively discourage others--especially LGBTQ+ individuals and allies--from patronizing it. What should have been a joyful family milestone was ruined by bigotry. Avoid this establishment if you value respect and inclusivity.

Unfortunately, that loyalty came to an end after a recent experience that was both disappointing and unacceptable. My family and I chose this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. Every guest paid separately, and there were no issues during the evening itself. However, as the event concluded, multiple attendees, including family members and in-laws, overheard servers making derogatory comments about our party. Among the remarks were that we were "ungrateful," "cheap," and "broke," along with other inappropriate comments that no customer should ever have to hear. I brought the matter to the attention of ownership, hoping for a meaningful resolution. While I was told the employees had been reprimanded, the proposed remedy was a $25 gift card. After nearly 18 years of patronage, the response felt dismissive and only added insult to injury. What disappoints me most is not simply the behavior of the staff, but the lack of accountability and concern shown afterward. This was a place I once considered a reliable and welcoming destination for family gatherings and celebrations. Sadly, that trust has been lost. As a result, I will no longer be returning or recommending this establishment to friends, family, or colleagues. Respect for customers should be a fundamental part of any hospitality business, and in this case, that standard was not met.

Looking back, El Cometa is what started my taco obsession. Their tacos al pastor con queso are so good. I pile all three on my tacos, and every bite is amazing. Their tacos remind me of my favorite tacos at the resort my family visited every summer in Cancún.
