Love this place for breakfast!! Friendly service, and has that 70's family diner feel when you walk in.

Food - the portions are good. I could barely finish my meal and my wife only ate about a third of hers. The potatoes are special. They aren't too salty and they are a mix of crunchy and soft. The green onions add a delightful little edge to them. Ambiance - this place has a well decorated Coca-Cola theme. There are some interesting and unique signs scattered about the walls. The person decorating definitely abided by a certain degree of symmetry and tastefulness. Notables - there's a juke box! Bring quarters! Cleanliness - in some ways the diner is a little dated, but that is part of the charm. Everything was clean and well used. Service - we had nice service but not really great service. Had a late lunch here and just made it on time before they close at 2pm. Didnt wait too long for a seat, and order came out not too late. Coffee was good and they left a pitcher of ice water on the table for self refills. Once I received my order I tasted good, nice size omelette. The service there felt family owned and local. Right beside the dining area is an arcade for the kids to enjoy after they eat. If you are military, use your discount they accept and honor. I usually pass the discount back to the business through the server with additional on top. Things to improve: young employees cussing like no one around, kinda odd for a family diner. This hard -to-spot spot is in a nondescript shopping center hidden behind a weed store. The food was good (I had the country Benedict) and prices were very reasonable. The sandwich (on the, YES!!!) was very uninspired and I could have done better at home, but the portion was respectable. BF ordered a double breakfast and felt unfulfilled after all that. Little Dipper is filling a gap that is largely missing in Anchorage. I won't go so far as calling it a full fledged east coast style diner, but it does hit most of the diner marks. The good: They serve all the classics. The have milk shakes and malts and Ruebens and breakfast all day. They even have a jukebox. Plenty of parking. The bad: The service is slow and the servers definitely don't have eyes in the backs of their heads. No cute polyester uniforms of yesteryear either. Nor is coffee diner-y and bottomless. For Father's Day Brunch this place was "hopping". After a brief 10 minute wait our party of 5 was seated in the side dining area, which is not bad with the exception of the video game row right beside the tables. We placed our drink orders almost immediately and our food order within 10 minutes. First thing you see when you come in is the collection of old timey Coca Cola memorabilia, and a playlist to match the era. It's very clean too, everything looks very tidy. This is definitely my favorite restaurant so far on my family's trip to Anchorage. We came at 1:00 on a Wednesday. For about $14 I got the crab benedict with home fries. I subbed a biscuit for the English muffin it's usually served on as I thought it would work well. Boy was I right! Our waitress was nice and brought our food out in 10 minutes. My crab benedict plate was pretty amazing. The crab worked well with the poached eggs, tasty hollandaise, and the biscuit. The hollandaise was great. It can be easy to make a far too lemony hollandaise, but this was spot on. The biscuit was soft, salty, and just a touch sweet. Awesome. The eggs were perfectly poached. I mean dang! The home fries were awesome. Fried enough that you got a nice crisp but not to the point they become potato chips. And the fries were well seasoned and even came with some sautéed onion. Already great on its own, but I took some bites with the benedict- wow. And all this for $14 is a great deal. It was so much food I could've easily boxed half of it up, but as we were going on a long drive straight after, I couldn't, so I figured not cleaning off my plate would've been wasteful :-) For the most part my family quite enjoyed their food too. My dad's pancakes were large and fluffy, my mom's omelette was not rubbery and cheesy, and my cousin's sweet potato fries (crinkle cut!) were sweet and crispy. Tried bites of all to confirm. The only thing that was less than stellar was my cousin's spinach wrap, which he said was just ok (this was after he finished it, so I wasn't able to try). Little Dipper is the spiritual successor to the late-great AK Cafe. The menu is similar and it's run by some of the same great folks. It's located in the old Torchon Bistro spot. I had the cajun chicken scramble, it was very good. The coffee refills were frequent and friendly. (sidebar: what's with the stingy coffee refills in town lately? Did coffee prices skyrocket?) The home fries here are still the best in town. Decor is old school: think toy trucks and coca-cola memorabilia. They open at 6am so I plan on making this one of my new early-morning breakfast spots. I've been here for both breakfast and lunch and have found the food to be consistently delicious, great for the price, and just filling comfort food. The place is small but they're efficient with turning tables and their service so we've never had to wait terribly long, even when it seems we arrive during morning rush. The portions are hefty but not terribly so. I've definitely brought breakfast leftovers home and not regretted it. The burgers are a good size as well and the fries had a good fry on them, not too crisp or too limp. If you're looking for good diner food, friendly staff and service and an overall pleasant experience, this place is a great option. It was slathered in a tasteless hollandaise (tasted kind of just like butter or oil?) I'm not sure if they cut the crab with imitation or if it is all imitation but the employees refused to disclose that to me. Not only did the food take forever but the staff took forever to get anything to us when we were one out of the two tables there. I could see the staff hanging out by their POS system and never bothered to look our way, check on us or refill our waters/coffee until I had to wave them down and vocalize I needed something. Seeing now that they do not follow health mandates or health codes makes a lot of sense why they lack in service (because they really just don't care.) When met with criticism or critique the owners respond back unprofessionally and disgustingly.
