The tables were very sticky not sure why but we wiped them down again with water and they were still sticky. I ordered the ham and feta wrap, I was given a chicken wrap instead which I ate so it wouldn't get thrown away. However, I did not even eat half of it as it was not very good and I don't recommend it. I had the French dip with roasted potatoes and it was honestly one of the best I've ever had. The sandwich was packed with flavor, and it was the perfect amount of food for lunch. Great sandwich place! We were pleasantly surprised at how open and sunny the restaurant is. The employees were awesome - very friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding and fresh, with portions being extremely generous. We tried the gumbo which was the soup of the day. It was delicious - nice dark roux and bold flavor but not too spicy. The club sandwich was a perfect balance of turkey, ham and cheese on fresh bread while the special wrap of the day was tasty steak and bleu cheese concoction. Perfectly fine assortment of grub! Negatives first... the pasta salad tasted like they cooked the noodles, tossed it in some oil, maybe sprinkled a bit of salt on them and called it a day. Very bland and uninteresting. Soup d'jour was a creamy potato... very milly, very salty. Only had a bite. The drop biscuits were tasty! We enjoyed having them by themselves and were definitely great with a little bit of jam. Roasted potatoes were simple but perfectly delightful. The kale and mixed greens salad was good, a bit on the sweet side overall but came with a nice portion, greens were all fresh, sliced beef had good seasoning, and the dressing was decent. Both sandwiches were good! Curry chicken salad was a bit too sweet, but it still made for a great sandwich - lots of flavor. The other was an Italian sandwich, had everything you'd expect with solid proportions in what made for a solid Italian! read more

Glad to see that they have weathered the storm and seem to be back on top of their game. I typically will get a special and/or soup and sandwich. Yesterday I got a curry chicken salad sandwich and homemade soup. It was a nice change of pace in a sandwich. They serve those typically with a handful of tortilla chips in a basket. Many items are wraps when you're getting a full serving but prepared in sandwich form if it's a half. Sometimes their soups are homemade and sometimes I'm thinking they aren't. Service went through a lull but seems to be back on track. You'll sometimes get a visit from the chef and you can tell that he cares about your experience. This is a great lunch spot. read more

This is one of our offices go to's for a great lunch at a reasonable price. Any day of the week there's a special that includes a sandwich and a soup. The salads are generous. I haven't been to the Cafe but we did order some burritos from here for one of our meetings at work. I like to have a heavy breakfast and their burritos did the job. They were hot when they delivered it, huge and extremely yumm. Have dined (with friends) at Sis's on several occasions. After reading some other reviews, I'm wondering if everyone is writing about the same eating establishment?!?!? Their wraps are superb. The greens and vegetables were super fresh. Their house (fresh basil & vinaigrette) dressing compliments the salad as well as most entrees. Today I thoroughly enjoyed Black Angus & Maytag Bleu Cheese wrap along with a great salad (pictured)...wonderfully presented, super fresh...mouth watering. I was fortunate enough to attend a training where Sis's Cafe had catered lunch. It was a variety of wraps on a tray. It was a beautiful display of vegetables, fruits, and cut wraps displaying what the ingredients were. I sampled the curry chicken salad wrap, and the cranberry pistachio chicken salad wrap. We took some home at the end, so the grilled chicken lettuce wrap is also amazing. I was pleasantly surprised with creative and fresh flavors. I will explore Sis's more with a visit to the cafe and perhaps see what else I can fall in love with. VERY pleased so far. read more

This is probably our favorite "go to" place to eat in Anchorage. We typically go three or four times a month and have been doing so for some time. The food is of excellent quality. The prices are modest. We can have a great meal for the two of us for under $30. Service is great and the food comes fast. We particularly like the flank steak sandwich and the breaded chicken sandwich. The Gumbo is great. You should try it. read more

However, for freshness, great service, and quality ingredients at a reasonable price (for Anchorage), pretty certain you'll find Sis's Cafe is a great spot for lunch. Two words can describe Sis's diner - "Body Cleansing". I stopped in for lunch today since Sis's is only a couple blocks from my office. I ordered the daily special - a steak sandwich with a side of soup. Few things are less appetizing than taking the first bite of your sandwich and experiencing the gelatinous, gooey texture of a large chunk of undercooked fat. After closer examination I discovered the quarter inch thick piece of flank steak was cooked medium rare. Do you know how hard it is to cook a piece of meat that thin medium rare? I put the sandwich down and turned to the soup. The soup of the day was gumbo. It was actually rather good. I started to rationalize thinking the cook was possibly distracted and everybody makes a mistake once and a while. I finished the soup and asked for the check. The waitress felt bad that I didn't like the sandwich and offered to serve me something different. As many of you know, you never send it back or risk the chance of non-menu listed ingredients in your second dish. Being thoroughly disappointed I went back to work attempting to put the experience behind me, vowing never to return. About two hours later I started to experience upper intestinal tingling. The tingling that is all to familiar to people who have traveled overseas for any length of time. It was then that I realized the gumbo was likely far more dangerous than the undercooked sandwich. As the sensation intensified I decided that it would be wise if I head home early, especially since I have a half hour commute. Luckily I was able to make it home prior to the start of the cleansing. read more

This is the second worst deli in anchorage. On my first visit my sandwich which had great flavor had a nice long black hair in it. Gag! But the sandwich tasted good so I decided to try again. Second visit was not as bad, my sandwich had a piece of paper in it, meat packing paper the same size as the sandwich. How do you miss a piece of paper that big? Again the flavor was good but I'm having difficulty swallowing the hair and paper. Clean up you act and you may have a decent deli. read more

Sis's Cafe is the definitive hole-in-the-wall cafe. If you want good food, I mean amazing food, come here. The french dip, $10.95 has ample meat and tender onions. The Italian Panini, $9.95, is not a typical panini as it is not grilled, but the flavor is out of this world- it woke up my senses and had a combination of flavors... you just have to try it to know. The food here is amazing! Everything I've ever had! The soup is homemade and really good. The portions are huge! As for the customer service, well except to be griped at, yelled at, rushed, hear all of her grumblings about every other costumer in there. I don't usually write many reviews, but I guess I better start, if I want my favorite restaurants to stick around. I thought the same thing another poster said, that I have not idea what these bad reviews are all about... This place is AWESOME! Kim, the main lady behind the counter, might not be some fake, cutesy, 'Hi, welcome to Starbu***' may I interest you in our newest Kimchee Frapuccino?' type, but she's a great lady & she works really hard to get my order right every time! I order To-Go from here AT LEAST once a week & eat in at least 2-3 times a month, and in the probably 10 years that I've been coming here, they've only messed up my order once & that was just because there was a new girl, who over charged me on a menu item, which the owner corrected immediately, with just a phone call. I was just floored, when I read some of the bad reviews. I have no idea what these complainers were expecting. This is not McDonalds, don't expect your food in 5 minutes. It's real, human hands made, fresh, delicious food. I can't say I've tried everything on the menu, but close. My wife loves the Mac & Cheese... It's HUGE & FRESH & DELICIOUS. (I know, because she can only ever finish half ;) I really like the Grinders & the Avacado Duet is another favorite!
