I usually don't like to give reviews, if they aren't 4 and 5 stars, but I just have to be honest. I don't know that we will give this place a second chance. The raving reviews had me fooled into thinking that we would get some great food and service and both were lacking, to be perfectly honest. The food was just not very good (in mine and my family's opinion). Servers were very busy, but you can still be busy or stressed and have a good attitude and service. I am honestly questioning all of these 5 star reviews. Great little traditional diner! Only open for breakfast and lunch. I'm not sure about their lunch options, but their breakfast menu had all the traditional favorites (including grits)! We ordered the eggs and sausage breakfast, and it was cooked to perfection. We also ordered a side of pancakes... totally worth it! I am not a huge fan of this place. We came in and weren't really greeted for a while. When we were finally seated our waitress asked if it was our first time in. We said yes and she almost looked annoyed that we dare eat here! It was my husbands birthday so this was his choice. He ordered the sliders with a side of gravy and home fries. I ordered my go to: eggs Benedict. Before I get rude about this place I'll just say, this was my first time here. It might get better. I requested a little of a harder poach on my eggs because I'm pregnant. The eggs were pretty much hard boiled. The flavorless yellow mystery sauce that should have been hollandaise was just terrible. It literally tasted liked over cooked egg yolks drowned in melted butter. In fact, I saw when my food came out. The waitress pulled a clear vat out from behind the counter. It was filled with two separated yellow substances that she had to stir quite vigorously to combine and then was ladled over the over poached eggs. It ruined the homefries that were actually pretty good. My husband ended up putting the flour tasting cream gravy over it all and eating it himself. His food however, he claims was great. His meal came with 6 breakfast sliders. For sliders they were pretty good sized. Simple egg, sausage, and country gravy topped with cheese. I had one. They weren't bad at all. I could have made them myself. The gravy however was extremely lacking. The flour hadn't been properly cooked out and if there were no meat in it, I doubt there would have been flavor at all. I'm not in a rush to get back to this place. When I do go back I hope dearly that the review will be better. read more

Oh my gosh, this diner is AWESOME!!! This is a great family owned restaurant. The food is so good, with really great portions. The waitress's, waiter's and the young man that seats you are so friendly and down home people. They will take time to talk with you if you need a friendly smile and someone to just say hi. They are the cleanest restaurant in Anchorage. The other restaurants in town are dirty and the workers don't appear clean, and customer service went out the window. I love this restaurant because the food is really good, and customer service is above and beyond, the price of food is comparable maybe even better then other restaurants considering how much food you get. I took a friend for lunch here after reading all the good reviews on this place. Little Dipper Diner is located in the old Torchon Bistro location off of W. Dimond Blvd. across from Fred Meyers and Burlington Coat Factory in a small strip mall. The parking lot is small which might make finding an available spot a little difficult during the breakfast and lunch rush. We were lucky to find one not far from the entrance when we pulled in. The seating area is cozy and quaint with a good amount of tables and chairs available as well as Coca-Cola memorabilia from years past adorning all of the walls. We were greeted by a friendly server who told us to take any table we want. We seated ourselves by the corner next to a display of vintage Coca-Cola TV trays and a shelf full of the polar bear dolls from the commercials. The menu has an extensive selection of breakfast and lunch items. We decided to go with lunch since it was a little after 1PM. My friend decided to try the Shrimp Louie salad (fresh lettuce, Bay shrimp, tomato, cucumbers, and hard-boiled eggs). I decided to go with the traditional Patty Melt (hand-pressed beef patty with grilled onions, Swiss cheese, and 1000 Island dressing on grilled rye bread) along with a side of Sweet Potato Fries. The wait was only several minutes even though there were other diners waiting for their order. The Patty Melt was phenomenal. The grilled rye bread was perfectly toasted along with a couple of juicy beef patties cooked medium and a good amount of melted Swiss cheese as well as a generous amount of 1000 Island to complement the mix of flavors. The Sweet Potato Fries are some of the best I've ever had in a diner. These came as the thin, shoestring style which I prefer over a thicker cut. These had a perfectly crisp, not chewy texture and a sweet flavor that went perfectly with ketchup. If they had cinnamon butter as the dipping sauce, that would've been the perfect meal. My friend loved her Shrimp Louie salad. They didn't skimp on the shrimp which she mentioned had a unique Cajun seasoning along with a lot of fresh vegetables enough to give her a filling meal. This place is definitely a welcome addition to the south side of town. I will most definitely return to try their breakfast items and give an updated detailed review in the future after a couple more visits. read more

Had heard good things about this diner and for the most part they were correct. A very typical diner menu with some nice touches. Overall I found the decor a little tired (I'm just over Coca-Cola themes) but it wasn't bad. Food was tasty (pancakes and bacon) with standard presentation, I found the coffee a little weak but I prefer a dark roast. Server wasn't the most engaging or friendly, didn't share any specials or soup of the day. She wasn't rude just less than welcoming (maybe a hard day). Brand new, really clean, nice decor and friendly staff. Found it on Yelp, wouldn't have noticed it otherwise because it's sort of hidden. Large children's portions, my son loved his food (1 pancake, 1 egg and 1 bacon). Spouse had a Philly cheesesteak omelette and home fries and that was very tasty too. I ordered 2 French toast, 2 eggs and 2 bacon. Had to unfortunately knock a star because they brought out pancakes instead of French toast and the eggs (over hard) tasted really oily. I really don't like them cooked in oil. The French toast was great though when they brought it out. I'd definitely come back though and try something new, and I was a little disappointed I didn't see the bar style seating in the room next to us with football on tv. This morning I visited the Little Dipper Diner for the first time at the recommendation of a coworker. Going out to breakfast solo, is actually an activity I relish, but in Anchorage - its a little awkward. People tend to subtly gawk and whisper which can be a bit intimidating. But as I'm being seated, I spot another gentleman sitting by himself, enjoying breakfast. He glances up quickly as I pass and I know there's an instant connection... but I digress. I ordered the eggs benedict and a side of bacon. The dish comes with a choice of home fries or grits and I opted for the home fries. While waiting and focusing intently on my phones - I steal a quick glance over at the single man quietly eating his toast and eggy-somethingorother. He is facing away from me so all I can see is the back of his head but I can feel him straining not to turn around and catch my gaze. He has definite potential. The food was up relatively quickly, which I was grateful for - as I was occupying a large booth and felt a little guilty. When the plate arrived (and I'll give it 3.5 stars for presentation) it looked pretty standard. I sprinkled on the Tabasco (yes! without tasting it - shut up) and dug in. What I noticed first was a buttery, velvety smoothness that was slightly reminiscent of a fine pastry crème only without sugar. Arguably some of the best hollindase I've ever tasted. The ham was thick like the width of one of those wooden back-scratchers and of great quality and deliciousness - no boingers* or weird skin that needed to be eaten around. And then there were the potatoes. Ah, the potatoes! They tasted as if they were grilled in a cast-iron pan with small bits of onion and sprinkled with scallions. There was a magical crusty caramelization that had occurred and it was completely perfect. While eating and trying to achieve the perfect ratio of potato:egg:sauce:ham, I sensed in him a shift ... was he playing hard to get? I'm not easily fooled. His interest was palpable in a very real breakfast-diner sorta way. Anyways the bacon was unremarkable - tasted a little odd to be honest I only ate half a piece. The coffee was ... coffe, but the attentiveness of the staff was really good. The check was delivered. I paid and started to walk out. Tried out this diner cause my roommates always ordered food for breakfast from this place every Sunday. Finally got to try it out and being a breakfast feen I Absolutely loved it! My boyfriend and I ordered some tater tots for appetizer and it was very filling and ate it all right away. Typical breakfast spot and they have very large portions which I thought my boyfriend and I could have shared just one meal. He ordered the country fried steak and I got the hash brown omelette. Delicious! Can't go wrong with those breakfast selection. I wish I could have taken some pictures but I was too busy chowing down right away. They also decorated this place like a 1950s diner which I thought was adorable! They have Coca Cola decoration everywhere and it felt cozy.
