We recently tried Firehouse Subs for the first time and glad we did! Between the backstory on how they got started, the donations made annually and the quality food, we are glad we did! The service was polite and prompt, several people working behind the counter making sandwiches as quickly as they could... our order of two sandwiches took about 15 minutes. They were both noticeably stacked with meat and plenty of toppings, piping hot from the oven! It was quite nice! I made it a point to pop my head over counter before we left and let them all know how good our sandwiches were and they immediately perked up with the accolades! Sometimes it's the little things that can make someone's work day! We don't make it to that side of town very often but I wouldn't hesitate to go back when we do! I also really liked seeing that they donated over $130k to Public Safety in Anchorage in January of this year!! read more

OMG! Went through the drive up and ordered two large sub only. Went to the window and the price was approximately $9 more than what was shown on the order sign. I asked them to check and was told their system updated and that was the actual price. I asked for a refund of the difference. No can do according to the 17yo manager. I returned the order for a full refund instead. Asked for a receipt on my credit and was told that was impossible. I asked how I could prove anything if my refund does not go through. The reason for 4 stars... the bread they use is awful... it's got way too much sugar in it and ruins the sandwich (ala Subway). Its completely wrong...too soft.. I'm from Jersey and very particular about subs. Hoagie bread should be soft on the inside and hard on the outside. She even admitted that their employee screwed up. She said there was nothing that they could do about it. She said we were welcome to come get some. Not only was there no dressing or utensils, but 3 of the 4 sandwiches were not as ordered. One of them had no mayo as requested. One had no mustard as requested and was not supposed to have tomatoes. But it did have tomatoes. One had onions when requested that it be without onions. THIS store has some poor management. We called to try to get this corrected. All she would do is tell us to contact Uber Eats. Please explain to me how Uber Eats is going to correct their screw up. Uber Eats did not make the sandwiches, they did not assemble the order, Uber Eats could not verify the order was complete since Firehouse sealed the bag shut BEFORE the driver picked it up. Just like I remember it in Jacksonville, FL! Where the Original Restaurant started from. Got what I always get. The Steak and Cheese Large Sub on white bread. The bread is toasted with the meats and cheeses and steamed. We substituted the peppers out and get the mushrooms instead. First bite was heavenly with the sauce that defines that sandwich. All sandwiches come with a nice dill pickle too! We had heard about the Mayor closing all dine in today at 5:00 PM in Anchorage because of the damn virus. When we walked in the chairs were all put up, either stacked against the wall or put on top the tables you see at closing time. They'll be open for Delivery through Grubhub and take out too. So you can still get it but no dine in. I attached a photo of a coupon $12 off your first order of $15+ but you must be new to Grubhub. Another successful restaurant that Jack Lewis has brought to Anchorage. Great food. Everything was perfectly made and all the people that work there are happy and helpful. It is not for fast food that can't be identified by the looking at what your spent your hard earned money on. The smell grabs you before you ever taste it and the portions are very generous. I just got a ham, cheese and lettuce large sub, my husband picked a large sub (honestly can't remember which one but i actually hardly saw it because he ate it so fast), a kids ham and cheese sub meal, and a cup of chicken dumpling soup. The soup could've used more chicken, but was good. The ham in my ham and cheese sub was the sweetest ham I've ever had. Might be too sweet for some people, but I absolutely loved it. The sizes are perfect to share, my son and I split my sandwich, and my brother took half of my husbands. We'd definitely go back, I'm surprised I haven't gone sooner. Firehouse has food I would rate at 5 stars, but the service is so consistently and shockingly bad, that we won't be going back. These are issues we have had on many, many occasions: -LONG times to fulfill an order. Yesterday we were the only people in line and it took 20 minutes to get our two sandwiches. If there's a car or two in front of you, the wait could easily be 45 minutes. This has happened to us more than a few times. -Completely disorganized. We have had employees try to hand us drinks when we ordered none (on multiple occasions), they do not know what we ordered when we arrive at the window, and we have to explain several times what our order was (on multiple occasions). They've handed us orders that were not ours, again, with regularity. -Once we finally have our order, they've never gotten the sandwiches wrong, but regularly get the sides or drinks wrong. Check everything before leaving the window. If they don't change the way they do business, we won't be the last customers they will lose, and we're likely already not the first. I finally called and talked to a manager who apologized, but blamed it on a "shift change." I doubt they've been in the middle of a shift change every time we've visited, and I'm sure other businesses have shift changes where all hell does not break loose, so it's a garbage excuse. We waited unusually long in drive thru, employee on speaker said to the vehicle behind us saying sorry for the wait we are short staffed. Once we got to the window, we noticed many employees inside and they didnt look short staffed at all. I don't like that they don't bake the bread in house and there isn't as many sandwich options or toppings. Second time round I went thru the drive thru. Wasn't too bad of a line but it took about 15 minutes. I drive by sometimes and there are tons of cars I can't imagine waiting for that. Their medium drink is like a large too.
