It was exquisite and lovely. And once I got done admiring the craftsmanship of the LFL I realized how beautiful the home was and considered how much thought and care and effort the owners had put into it. In addition to all that loveliness this library has a feature that you seldom see, an extra tall, extra wide section to hold unusually large books. It made an awesome thing even awesomer. Whoever named these five streets deserves a good, sound kick in their country lovin' backside. Fortunately once you've finally found this LFL all the confusing work is done. It's a charming two shelf library with a wonderful extra little cubbyhole in the back of the top shelf. It's packed with several hardcover editions for adult readers along with a few items for younger readers. And surrounding the LFL is a lovely trellis of climbing vines, a few California poppies and two rugged chairs so you can sit, soak up the sun and read to your heart's content on this charming, quiet road.

It's owned by folks with a wild, colorful sense of style and a passion for reading. There were bangles and bobbles and doodads hanging everywhere. And there was nearly three times as many books here as would fit in the box. Fantastic. So go for a drive, see a neighborhood in the center of Santa Clarita that still somehow maintains it's rural heart and enjoy the enthusiastic passion of this Little Free Library.

She explained that her son had made the library and it was he who had come up with the unusual roofline planter. She then offered me some of her homegrown grapefruit. Considering all the fear and anxiety that so many people are going through with the Corona virus it was sweet to enjoy a little person to person interaction and a little human kindness. It's nearly as vital as the air we breathe.

Also the owner made it completely out of wood scraps from their garage. Crafty indeed! There are even solar powered lights allowing folks to stop by in the evening and peruse the reading selection. The bottom half is children's and young adult fiction while the top half is historical and drama fiction. Remember to take a book and share a book.
