The Guild house is a wonderful establishment. very fancy and lovely especially for a lunch date with your mother or grandmother. All meals are delicious, filling and flavorful. What sets this establishment apart from other local restaurants is that all proceeds go to raise funds for Henrietta Weill Memorial Child guidance clinic, Even including the tip do you leave for the volunteer waiters and waitresses. It's open only seasonally, close during summer months.

The Guild House is a such a gem in Kern County and I am always happy after enjoying a delicious meal here! As diners, we get to enjoy a delicious 3-course meal in a gorgeous setting, all the while helping the children of Kern County. (ALL proceeds are for the Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic, having raised over $2 million to date!) When I say 3-course, I mean 3 delicious, all-in-house, scratch-made courses including a soup to start, an entree with sides (or salad of the week), and a mouthwatering dessert, plus bread, tea, and coffee if you'd like. (Soda, beer, and wine available for purchase as well.) Everything is cooked, prepped, served, even washed and stocked by a staff of volunteers. How awesome!!!! I have had these meals many times and have never had something I didn't like! Everything is delicious and I can't rave enough about the service as well. Like others have stated, I would definitely call a couple of days in advance to reserve whatever day you'd like as they do tend to sell out, especially around holidays!! Be sure to check the calendar for meal options as well as fashion show dates! Come in, enjoy the decor and have an incredible meal! Ask for the 'mocktail' of the month too! So fun!

Wow! This was such a lovely experience and a wonderful cause. The volunteers were amiable and the meal was very pleasant. I can't wait to have another luncheon. The restaurant is in the beautiful Barlow home, built in 1909, Guild House serves lunches Monday through Friday from 11:30am through 1:30pm with excellent meals by some of Bakersfield's finest cooks. The guild house is a nonprofit run by volunteers and all of the funds raised go to the Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic.

This place is pretty good. They have a set menu every day so you just eat whatever they're serving but their rolls are freshly made and I had their rolls, broccoli soup, pasta with veggies & icecream with pie for $20. The serving sizes are actual serving sizes so it's not too much or too little in my opinion, especially for everything being $20. Service was great, especially since they're volunteers. It's just not a big space inside since it's in a house, but it was still nice and relaxing.

Were it not for the tiny doll housed-size plates, cups and saucers, I'd give Guild House a 5-star rating. The place is a beautiful example of antiquity restored and maintained to the fullest. Built as a private, 3-story home in the early 1900's, all three floors have dining rooms to accommodate various size parties. The tiniest, cutest little old ladies from the local community prepare imaginative meals from their personal recipe collections. Everything is done by volunteers. The only problem with Guild House is their serving portions: a dinner roll is the size of a marshmallow. It comes alone, wrapped inside a tiny napkin inside a tiny basket. Main course portions are similarly short-changed. Ask for "a little more" of something, and they react as if you just burped. The word "or" runs throughout the meal descriptions. Expectedly, most of the clientele on any given weekday consists of those cute, darling little old ladies, who probably spend all morning knitting to work up such ravenous appetites. Guild House is open for lunch weekdays from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The cost of lunch is $13 before tax. "Evening desert", served Tuesday- Thursday by reservation, costs $12 including tax and gratuity. Minimum number for Evening Desert is 16 patrons. Guild House is open from September though May and closes during the summer from June -through August.

A lovely lady will take your reservation and also seat you.

My husband commented that it made him want to move to Bakersfield which made our server Emily laugh. Limited parking in back and some street parking. We walked in without a reservation at 11:15 on a Friday and were the first customers of the day. Great decor, dim lighting, vintage looking furniture which does not sacrifice comfort for artistry. Our cocktails and meals were spectacular: Botanist Fashioned: 5/5-the brown sugar cinnamon syrup added a spicy bite to each sip which was unexpected and fun. Watermelon Sugar High:4/5-refreshing with watermelon juice freshly made in house and an ice cube with mint frozen in it. Seared cauliflower: 4/5-great appetizer for 2. The crispy chicken sandwich and the Botanist smash burger:5/5-Both had super flavorful pickles and toasted buns which always add a lovely crunch to each bite. If you're ever in Bakersfield and are at least 21, this place is well worth it! We'll hopefully be back someday. Highly recommend!

A Delicious Thank You to Teachers!…read more What an incredibly thoughtful way to give back to the community! One of our teachers at school entered a drawing for a free catered lunch from Locale Farm to Table, and we were so lucky to win! The drawing was the owner Heather's way of giving back and showing her appreciation for teachers. She was especially touched by our teacher's story, which made the win feel even more meaningful. Many of us who work at the school already dine at Locale and absolutely love the food, so we knew we were in for a treat. Heather brought some of their most popular dishes, including a hot honey goat cheese spread with Pyrenees bread, roasted butternut squash and Brussels sprouts, a fresh garden salad, and a chocolate and strawberry pastry for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious! What really stood out, though, was how much thought Heather put into making sure everyone could enjoy the meal. She heard that we had some vegetarians among us and went above and beyond by preparing additional dishes without bacon so everyone had plenty to eat. That extra touch meant so much and really showed how genuinely caring and thoughtful she is. Having this incredible meal right before the first day of school was such a special treat. Teachers and school staff work incredibly hard, and feeling appreciated in such a generous way was truly wonderful. Thank you, Heather, for your generosity, kindness, and for supporting our school community! We are so grateful, and, of course, already looking forward to our next visit to Locale!

I got it for take out and sat at the bar while they made it. At the bar I had a tall Modelo and a healthy pour of 400 Canejos mezcal, neat, on the recommendation of the bar tender. I really like smoky liquors, like Islay scotch. The 400 Conwjos is very smooth and somewhat smoky. It has a very nice flavor and was a great recommendation, though next time I would ask for something with more smoke. I'm sure the bartender would have a good recommendation. Everything was really good and I'll definitely go back. The green sauce on the rellenos, which were stuffed with chicken and cheese, was a great blend of picante and savory flavor. The rellenos were large, slightly spicy poblanos with a rich egg batter and covered with that tasty green sauce. The tamales were pork stuffed with a slightly spicy red sauce seasoning in the pork. I got the white sauce on the tamales and it added to and balanced the spice of the pork very nicely. All in all, everything was very good and I definitely recommend everything that I ordered. And here is the kicker. My bill was $38.00! I left a pretty healthy tip. So, to sum this up, I highly recommend this place! Really good food. Solid bar with knowledgeable bartenders.
