During a session, I barely work up a sweat, but I know I've worked plenty when I feel a just-right amount of muscle soreness the next day. Due to a back injury, this is important so that I don't create more problems from over-doing the workout. If I have a sore spot when I arrive, the workout is modified to accommodate the issue. Purifying Pilates has been a fundamental component in healing, strengthening and maintaining my back. During my workouts, we target all of my muscle groups, not just the core. As a result, I have occasionally surprised my husband with my arm strength, and I've got better posture than him. Rene and Martine attend supplemental Pilates workshops, which shows their commitment to keeping up-to-date on the latest techniques. They bring that knowledge back to the studio, which helps to change things up a little during the sessions, and keeps it interesting. I look forward to my time here; it's private and relaxing. The studio has it's own restroom, a space to prepare and enjoy a cup of tea, and it's convenient with cheap downtown parking directly behind the studio. Rene and Martine are very friendly, and make me feel comfortable exercising there. They also sell things like yoga socks, toe-stretchers (feels really good!), exercise balls, thera-bands, microwave hot pads (Smart Spine, I think it's called), etc. to use at home. Apparently I don't get all this new lingo, new movement, and new positioning and am a complete retard, because I'm not catching on to each movement in under a split second! More than a few of the teachers here, were in dance companies or ballet prior to their new career in Pilates Instruction and to me, it explains everything. The attitude, the complete lack of patience and/or understanding and even the desire to help the students! Yes, I get that, we are supposed to be pushed, but honestly, sometimes (one of the teachers there specifically), seems very excited and enthused to see me fail, miserably. So my advise, if you are taking classes here (I haven't tried the private instruction, yet...) is to make sure you've got thick skin and can deal with instructors that expect the most out of you from the very start. If you are already seasoned in all Pilates, know all the lingo, names of equipment, etc... you will have no problems here. It's a great place to go for the core, and well... total body toning. As I have been searching around to see what other Pilates places are like, I noticed that the prices are particularly high in comparison to classes in San Francisco, Mountain View and Menlo Park; but at the same time, the studio is probably one of the cleanest, most well kept places I've seen, besides Maiden Lane Studios in San Francisco.

She's an amazing instructor who takes the time to show you proper body mechanics, and will help correct your form to get the best out of each exercise. I've never been so stimulated in a group setting until taking Darin's classes! She has a different routine for every class you take, and that part I enjoy the most. It helps me challenge different parts of my body in order to get stronger. My journey with my health and strength has waxed and waned over the years, adjusting and adapting to changes in my body, or due to injury. Participating in a low impact form of exercise, with stimulating routines, with different levels of difficulty has been the most fun I've had while exercising!
