Yes I love Little Hunan. The gentleman that works there is very nice. We ate there and I had my pot of tea which is a huge part of the experience of eating Chinese out. We were very taken care of. I read that they use chicken breast in their recipes and that made me really happy. Our chicken fried rice was really delicious. I rarely order it at other places because I don't care for dark meat. We were starving when we got there so we way over ordered and took a bunch of food home. Not exactly a bad problem to have. We love leftovers. I went in for takeout at lunchtime. I wanted the lunch special and like many places, they don't allow you to take the soup out so I asked if I could sit and eat the soup while I waited for my food. The friendly girl who worked there said that would be fine and sat me at a table. She quickly brought me delicious hot and sour soup and my fried rice and sautéed vegetables with tofu was ready to go when I finished. Horrible place. Should have known when all of the tables were empty when I arrived. Thought I'd give them a chance, but they blew it. Ordered beef with black bean sauce ($16.50) & asked for extra sauce when I paid in advance. Well, opened the container and as you might have guessed, barely any sauce at all. More like a just at best. I had also asked for some fried rice, but when the guy said "that will be $34.00", I said wait a minute! How much for the rice? He said $14.50. I said forget it Sam. Just the beef dish. Obviously, I won't be back. Hard to find a descent Chinese food place in San Mateo. This restaurant was referred to me from a friend. He stated that this is the best Chinese restaurant that he tried that's budget friendly. I ordered 4 Entrees which was the Mongolian beef, broccoli, oyster, sweet-and-sour fish, fillet salt, and pepper pork. I brought it home and my whole family was surprised with how good the food was. I currently do not have pictures to attach at the moment. but the next time, I'll surely eat there and add some pictures on my next review. Not a huge fan. The lunch menu was only white rice and a soup. No chow mein or fried rice. Was overpriced. The teriyaki chicken was mainly onions. And later that night, my stomach felt sick. It might've been just my selection. I did not know there were that many onions with the chicken. The hot and sour soup was good. The restaurant overall looked pretty rundown and dirty. read more

Ordered eggplant lunch combo, which came with soup. Eggplant had too much sauce and had a "tap water like taste". The soup that was included was cold in temperature, no warmth to it at all. Had tender beef & shrimp (not overcooked) *honey walnut shrimp - plentiful portions and LARGE shrimps like damn! *sweet & sour pork - big portions & so good 3 items that was plenty for 2 people and there were leftovers. The pot stickers are crispy golden with a wonderful ground pork & cabbage filling; perfect with a little chili oil. The general''s chickend is tender with a lite badder & a spicy sauce that is not overpowering. The crispy beef is tender with a lite badder & a wonderful sauce that like the chicken, is not overpowering. The Singapore rice noodles are wonderful with perfectly done noodles, bbq pork, shrimpk, onions, & peppers in a curry sauce that has just the right kick. This is our neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Cooks have come and gone over the years so the quality varies. They are fast, and most customers opt for takeout. We used to frequent this place once a week but feel the food has changed again and perhaps the kitchen staff has transitioned again. My biggest observation of the food here lately is the excessive amount of grease. A Chinese dish should never be drenched in oil so it absorbs it all nor over absorb to the point of saturation .. Being an essential worker, we have our certain go to places. Hunan is definitely one of them. Food is freshly made. Quick and speedy. Veggies are nice and crisp. I have my bias dishes such as the prawn and veggies or the salt and pepper ribs. I like the fact they have brown rice option. About 10 years ago, this place was fantastic, very savory and flavorful. Now the food is bland and greasy.

I only get the scrambled eggs w/beef over rice here. Probably a few times a month. If that's your bag I'd highly recommend this place.

We've been going here for years as it's nearby and they are always friendly and efficient. We ordered online and the food was on a table, hot and ready to go when we arrived so it was super fast and totally socially distanced. Tonight's dinner was especially tasty. We got a lot of the same dishes we normally get, but the portions, seasoning, textures, and ratio of meat/sauce to noodles/tofu, etc. were noticeably spot-on tonight! We got the dry fried beef chow fun (well seasoned, beef was tender, noodles appropriately soft), salt and pepper chicken wings (one of our favorites -- bursting with flavor), combination tofu (tofu was silky, soft, and well seasoned), and mu-shu pork (good amount of pork/eggs with a light sauce and perfectly cooked veggies). I grew up in the Highlands. We ordered from them a lot. My mom would get me won ton soup when I was sick. I live in Redwood City,and there is no good Chinese places. I will drive up there to get Chinese food. My brother still lives up there. He will bring me down food when I'm craving it. Check them out. It's a small whole in wall, and it is tiny. This is not the first time we have questioned the quality and flavors of the food awe have purchased but last night my wife and I wanted Pho but we decided to just get wonton soup instead from Little Hunan. I asked my wife to order me the wor wonton soup. I was very disappointed to see that they put beef and chicken in my wor wonton rather than pork.
