The food was horrible. There was absolutely no taste and the quality of their food is as horrible as the lack of any kind of taste. The Westlake Soup was like water w/ canned vegetables and the wings had just ONE bone in, taking the other bone to make it separated. I can't even find the words to describe how disappointing and how horrible the food was....whoever hired the cook, the owner should take some time to find a better chef. Very good Chinese food. I love crab cream cheese rangoons and this place has the best I've tried in San Mateo area so far. The crab to cream cheese ratio is perfect. It's light crispy and golden. I ordered takeout they do not offer dine in. I have tried the yellow chicken curry which was delectable. All the vegetables melt in your mouth with the sauce. It's soft and has great texture. I did not like their orange chicken. It had too much of a ginger taste. But everything else I've tried there was good. Service is very good. They gave me complimentary veggie eggrolls which were nice. I can't say much about the ambiance as this place is takeout only. read more

First of all this review is long overdue. We found this place during the pandemic and have never actually been there but have ordered many times since. We have tried many things on their menu but some items really stand out and have become regulars such as the fried crab rangoon appetizer that my wife loves. I have tried the mongolian beef and the black pepper beef, both were fantastic. We also love their chicken options...orange, lemon, sesame and Kung Pao have all been great for us. What stands out for me is the excellant service, they are always on time, the food is always piping hot and they are very generous with all the extras like sauces, free spring rolls and lots of fortune cookies! I really like this restaurant! They have lunch specials every day, which are delicious and give plenty of food for a very reasonable price. They also gave complimentary egg rolls as an appetizer which was such a nice touch. The staff were pretty attentive and service was fast. We ordered the salt and pepper beef lunch special ($8.75; not on the menu but if you request it the kitchen is nice enough to make it for you) which was very crispy and delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes (over $100) and everything was either awful (sweet & sour pork) or just mediocre (fried rice, moo sho pork & chicken chow mein). Food used to be so much better here! Ordered garlic noodles, garlicky but they used to be stir fried a little and had better flavored. Now they're just pale and not as robust in flavor. And the chicken. What a disappointment! Ok flavor, but I was afraid to eat more than a tiny bite! Didn't look like chicken pieces but spare parts. Highly recommend West Lake Minced Soup (can't rave enough about it), Lotus root and shrimp, beef and broccoli, Buddha's delight, General Tsao Chicken. Great experience here tonight (it was my second time here, but I forgot to review it the first time): *the family that runs this restaurant is awesome, polite, appreciative, and friendly *food is very good, it is more of a Chinese-American menu, but since I speak Chinese, I was able to order some things a bit more authentic and not on the menu, they happily obliged and the dishes were great! *service is lightning fast, and they constantly attend to re-filling your tea, water, whatever you need *complimentary appetizers, soups, and desserts... WHAT??? keep it coming, please, and thank you!!! *I feel that if they had a more central location with a dedicated parking lot, many more people would come here. It's not totally visible or accessible due to their weird location on El Camino/25th, but if you are familiar with the alley that runs behind it, then parking is easy I'm going to bring my Chinese parents here next time to see what they think of it. Sometimes I crave lowkey chinese cuisine, which I've come to realize is not in abundance in the bay. Chinese food here is pricey and the taste truly depends on whatever mood the chef is in. I'm originally from the East coast and I'll never get used to the fact that rice is an add-on (everywhere else it comes as part of your meal.) Oceanic is a family owned shop, staffed by their children. I love supporting small businesses, and the kids were really sweet and attentive. The restaurant is pretty spacious and is good for groups and families. With that said, the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered the classics: - Hot & Sour soup - Not enough starch which calls for a very watery soup. The flavor was there. Probably my favorite of the three. - Hunan beef - Beef is pre-fried (that's foodie-term for low quality beef), VERY few veggies (a sprinkle of snow peas, onions, carrots), nothing outstanding. - Chicken lo mein - Bland. Wok wasn't hot enough so no 'wok' flavor. It came with chicken and a sprinkle of celery. It was like the chef had run out of ingredients for the day. Overall disappointing. I've lived in the peninsula for a long time but never came here due to it not looking like much. I generally only go to Chinese restaurants overflowing with Asian people and this is not one of them. Being of Chinese decent and having grown up in San Francisco, my expectations of Chinese food are very high given how much of it I have eaten all my life so I was skeptical. But I get an ad highlighting their lunch special and decide to give it a try given that it seems like a good deal ($8-10 plus free soup and egg roll). Hard to get lunch for less than $10 anymore. To my surprise, the service was very attentive. Soon after I sat down the hot and sour soup and eggroll showed up. The eggroll was just OK but the soup was actually quite good. I like a sour hot and sour soup and it was quite tasty. The offerings for lunch seem standard and I went with the Mongolian lamb. They offer white or brown rice, so I went with the brown rice. It's nice that they offer this option as I'm trying to be healthier. So the food arrives and it's a decent portion. The flavor is good and it has a little bit of spiciness but not too much. The crispies on top I could have done without but I just pushed them aside. As I'm eating I noticed the waitress speaking a little bit of Spanish saying thank you and see you next time. I think that's a nice gesture. I only had one dish but it was good enough for me to come back to try more. Originally had planned on going some where else but they were full and car was parked closer to this place. There was a reason that this place was on the emptier side. The place I had gone to a few years before was no longer there, taken over by new owners and changed the menu. Was on Grubhub last night looking to order some food since I was both hungry and too lazy to cook. One of the first search results that came up nearby was Oceanic, so I decided to give them a try. Placed my order, and 20mins later, went to go pick it up. I didn't realize until arriving at this place that I have actually eaten at this location several times in the past, all under different owners and different names. The establishment has a tiny private parking lot to the right, however it appears to be full even with a lack of patrons inside. You can however continue to drive through the parking lot and park at the lots behind it which belong to a dental office (although very sketchy in the middle of the night). The service inside was EXTREMELY friendly, and my order was waiting for me upon arrival. I ordered beef chow mein and pork pot stickers, which were both really good. Haven't tried their main dishes yet, but overall a great experience. Will probably come back in the near future for a dine-in experience to try out more of their menu items. read more
