These guys came out and trimmed my orange jubilee once and did fine. I tried to get them out again to re-trim the Orange Jubilee and some other shrubs along with the regular lawn service. No one would get back with me and finally after calling them two weeks later they offered no reasonable explanation except they weren't able to trim the Orange jubilee because they were too tall. I happen to know they are trimmable from the ground. I guess they have too much business so maybe try someone else. read more

Just following up to the owners response (it's already been years so this is irrelevant...but I never read it before today) Our front yard is intentionally low maintenance - it's all rocks, a couple small bushes (the bush that Little John's took never grew back, had to buy a new one a year later to meet our HOA requirements), no weeds, and we had a brand new tree planted by Moon Valley a few weeks before we hired Little Johns (so it was a brand new baby tree...not even big enough to need trimming yet). The front yard did not need any maintenance that day...the fact that they saw the front yard and did anything at all just shows how sketchy the whole thing was. When we originally called the office to begin service, we made it very clear that we are only interested in the BACK yard because we wanted someone to come trim the grass biweekly - that's it....that's the ONLY reason we hired landscapers at all (cut the backyard grass...nothing else). We expressed that multiple times over the phone. So if the office noted to start in the front, then that's on them for not listening to what we were asking for. At the time we scheduled, we got the info that it was $165 an hour for initial cleanup (which...we thought was pricy but were willing to bite the bullet to begin services). Because the price seemed so high and because it was per hour instead of a set rate, we asked to keep it around $100 because we knew the yard was already in good shape. Had they gone to backyard and done the "cleanup" they would have seen that for themselves...3 guys could have mowed that yard in 15 minutes. In fact, the next landscapers we hired charged us $75 bi weekly for 2 guys and it only took them 10-15 minutes to cut the yard every time. The $100 cap we asked for was us trying to avoid being taken advantage of, so we didn't end up being charged 3 hours for a yard that was already in perfectly good condition (which, judging on some of the other reviews that paid $400+ for the cleanup fee and also got nothing done..sounds like we made the right move). Also, when we called the office and told the receptionist that I watched them leave after 10 minutes and she tried to lookup their clocking in/clocking out at our house...she told us that apparently the app or tool they used for tracking time had not been working that morning so they conveniently weren't able to record their coming and going time (cool story). Honestly, I think they didn't expect anyone in the house to be awake so early so they figured they were off the hook to do whatever they wanted and claim any time they wanted. Lastly, I am an AZ native...I appreciate that yard work is tough work and I fully understand that the heat in summer is (literally) killer and people working in those conditions deserve extra care. However, (some) HOA's have noise ordinances...coming at 5am or in our case 5:30am is a great way to get a noise complaint. I wouldn't hire any company that scheduled my house at such a crazy early hour (especially without asking first). It's not feasible. original review: I wrote an original scathing review explaining why I think these people are scammers and took advantage of us, but because my husband is a gentleman he asked me to tone it down so I will. Long story short - they showed up at 5:34am (ridiculous) and performed work we did not ask for in the front yard for 10 minutes and left, and charged us $90 for it. This is not an exaggeration...they charge $165 an hour for a cleanup service (3 guys show up) so you would expect some meaningful work to be done...but no. They did not even step foot inside the backyard to do the work we actually hired them for (cut the grass in the backyard). Never once knocked on the door to announce themselves or ask us what we wanted to have done. We found out after we got home yesterday (they arrived yesterday morning) that they completely removed an entire bush from our front yard...which at this point we are just laughing about because of how ridiculous the entire experience has been. Additionally, contracted a LJL "pilot program" for lawn quality service which yielded a +5x expansion of bare areas compared to service start nearly a year ago. Should have read reviews before hiring this company. Their website looks impressive but the reality is a lot different. They promise great customer service but they do not deliver. I called prior to my first service, left instructions for how I wanted the pruning done. Not only were those instructions ignored, they left plants unpruned, cuttings all over the yard, rocks blown away and not raked. They promised a warranty visit a few days later to make it right then didn't show. The office manager was very rude and never apologized, just made excuses. read more

I called to have an "out of control" backyard tamed. Nick and Armondo, cut their way into the back. The small trees and bushes that had made my yard home, stood no chance. I wanted a fresh start and that is exactly what I got. They were nice and polite and over all, very good at what they do. All of the demolition debris was hauled away. I have been using Little John's Lawns for 3-4 years now. They do my regular monthly maintenance, do our pre-emergent (preventative spraying to avoid weeds) and also trim our larger trees a few time a year. They were even kind enough to help us remove some old materials from a kitchen remodel job. All the materials were too large to fit in our trash, but Little John's Lawns hauled them away for us with our yard scraps. They have the best customer service, always keep you well informed on when they will be arriving, and do such a great job with our yard. I had them as my landscaping company for a month. I canceled maintenance with them after my most recent service call to trim some trees and plants to bring them a bit off the ground and off of my hardscape. The crew did not confirm exactly what I wanted before starting to cut. Despite the fact that I was home when they arrived (which they didn't check), they cut my trees and plants back so extremely that my backyard is hardly recognizable any longer. It doesn't seem like it should be very hard to say, "This is what I am going to do. Is that what you want?" It's simple things like this that I expect from companies that I hire to perform a service, and it doesn't seem like too much to ask. I also observed one of their workers using a week wacker to edge my lawn, and then turning the weed wacker sideways and using it to trim small growths on my tree, cutting up the bark as he did so. Very lazy and unprofessional. Finally, when I hired them I also showed them the fact that my lawn had died under the care of a previous company and was told that they would include fertilizing to address the issue. To my knowledge this didn't happen during any of the three visits they made to my house this month. I have decided to perform my own maintenance now. It should be easy with a dead lawn and not too much greenery left in my backyard. *Edit: Downgrading their rating since it's been a month and, though they promised to come take a look at the work and discuss the issues with me, that never happened. Little John's Lawns will break your sprinkler systems and have to come out 5 times to fix them. Also they will make mistakes on your billing, and try to send you to collections. I called 5 times and was guaranteed my accounts as fine only to get a new notice. If you speak with an office assistant Yasmine, just ask for a supervisor. Yasmine will not help you at all and will assure you everything is all right just to come back and say you owe more money. Yasmine will also not listen to you at all. Use any other service and save yourself from having to file a better business bureau complaint!!! read more

Top Notch! Had a overgrown section of grass and tree debris all over the rock landscaped yard. Overgrown Trees and CRAZY bushes! We have been Little John's customers for more than a year and are very satisfied. They are very reliable and the crews work hard. The problem we had with the 'guy with the lawnmower and trailer' companies was the lack of dependability and work ethic. Sometimes they would show up, sometimes not. I wanted my weeds taken care of and the pictures I'm posting is what was left after the job was done. Three men worked 2 hours and it still wasn't done completely. The communication with them is very poor. We used for just over a year and had several "warranty" visits because they did not do the job. I had to contact them regularly with questions and to find out WHAT was supposed to be done. What was the WORST though is when I cussed an employee out (during ANOTHER warranty visit) for incorrectly doing what we asked and then I immediately called the office to share my angst. I was supposed to received a phone call about it and they NEVER called. Then on the next visit they just DIDN'T show up! With the Thanksgiving holiday I assumed their schedule had changed. Finally, after FOUR weeks of no contact from them, I called and they advised me they had TERMINATED the contract! While I can respect that (due to the cussing out), a CALL WOULD HAVE BEEN APPRECIATED! Very unprofessional on their part. They do not value their customers. They just move on! read more

WORST COMPANY EVER! Called for a water leak repair over 2 weeks ago. Never used before, but was recommended by our neighbors. Upon calling to explain the issue they told us they don't do estimates they send out 2 people at $75 an hour for each of them. Once they determine the issue if it's a small issue they will just fix and then charge you without letting the consumer know until after it's done or if it's a larger problem they will give you quote to fix and if agreed upon they will fix the problem at that time. Being a Business Owner myself I know how important it is to do the right thing for my customers. Once their policy was explained to me I agreed to it before getting any information from me they only wanted to secure my credit card number. I let them know the water was off, asked when they will be able to come out and fix the leak. They let me know it would be 2 weeks, but more then likely sooner. It's now been over 2 weeks, called today to see if I was on the schedule to do the repair since it had been over 2 weeks. From what we've been told from our neighbors who in the past had always had a positive experience with them this time without any call or warning just showed up to do the repair which they actually never fixed the problem. When we called today to let them know we need the repair done now that it's been over 2 weeks and we just had our lawn over seeded. They looked at the schedule and told us we were on the schedule for today, but it's not going to be today because they had other customers that needed their repair done because they had over seeded! We told them that's the exact reason we called because own lawn also had been over seeded! They told us hopefully they can someone out soon, but can't tell us when. My wife had major spinal surgery and is recently home from the hospital, which is why I didn't have time to do the repair myself. I ended up fixing it myself probably better then them since they couldn't get our neighbors done correctly and saved a bunch of money! Very disappointed we're all busy, but they really should find a better, organized way to do business before losing anymore customers. If I wanted to do the repair myself I would of done it without having to go through all this hassle and it being fixed over 2 weeks ago during the cooler part of the day. They spray chemicals in your pool! We used this company for a long time. I finally got tired of the headache with getting them to do our low maintenance yard correctly so canceled service for good yesterday. All we needed was our yard blown out biweekly due to messy trees and a neighbors messy tree that drops in our yard. I repeatedly called and told them to not spray chemicals or weed killer in my back yard. It is all pool and artificial turf there is no need for it and I have small kids. I pull the few weeds that ever pop up. They do not communicate with whoever comes out. I caught a worker yesterday spraying my pool area, newly planted palm trees, and turf with the chemicals. It is unacceptable that they cannot do a simple job and put my kids and dog in harms way. There was no reason for him to spray the pool area or backyard at all. There was zero weeds. I opened the door and asked him to stop and please leave. He told me he was new. (All of them say this) Regardless new or not how hard is it to read the property notes so you do the job correctly. There is no communication in this business. I'm upset I now have chemicals in and near pool water where my kids swim and artificial turf which is like outside carpet where my kids play. On their last monthly maintenance visit, the crew did an excellent job with all pruning and clean-up, but in particular, the crew took the extra time to hand-pull larger weeds (and sprayed the spurge). Other landscape companies often will spray all weeds, regardless of size, resulting in tall dead stalks that remain visible until the next visit. read more

I have been using Little John's for several years and the maintenance service has, for the the most part, been good. There have been a few small issues which have been taken care of the next service call. Recently, I had put in a service request and it did not get done. As it was in the front and unsightly, I was upset and concerned about a notice from the HOA. I had done a service request online and verified by phone. The company apologized, owned up to the problem and stepped right up and sent a crew out the next day to take care of it. They did not make excuses, just took care of the matter. I hired this company to treat the weeds on my one acre property. They came out and treated the weeds - a few days later they did the fertilization and "spot treated" weeds. Two weeks later I had the healthiest crop of weeds you could ever find. Called and asked how long it should take for the weeds to die. Was told 4 or 5 days. I sent pictures of my excellent crop and was told they would come out and "spot treat" again even though they had fulfilled their so called "warranty" by doing the spot treating on the last trip. Since then, this has been the email stream. By the way, it is now Friday and have not heard anything since Tues. I have had it. Hi Judy, No you are not being ignored. *Update Little John's has gone ahead and waived the service charge which is fair. They came in and over "pruned" every single plant even things that did not need pruning or should not be pruned at all, by the time I spoke with them everything was cut and the backyard was a mess, so I asked them to just finish cleaning up (pick up the mess they made) and leave ..obviously this would complete the "service" John now expects full payment since they completed the Job...I guess he thinks its reasonable to butcher peoples yard's then leave the mess for them to clean up if you are unhappy. I asked John to educate me and link me to some recommended reading if I was wrong about how to properly care of these plants, he declined to do so and instead insisted that the hack job looked "good" read more

John came out to look at our lawn and gave us an estimate for the services we were looking for...and the invoice accurately reflected this estimate. No extra charges here! Due to the rain storm we had a few weeks ago, Little John's had to reschedule our appointment, but they were incredibly professional throughout the process. They called to let us know of the delay right away and we rescheduled to a time that was convenient for us. Our lawn looks great! We are so happy! This company delivers very poor value and does not communicate well at all. Owner does not stand behind his promises and for VERY high prices leaves an expensive set of plants looking dehydrated and dry. Cannot trim shrubs in a straight line and owner does not even bother to respond to customer complaints and correct very poor work and specific requests. Don't use this company unless you're ok with being scammed. We have a small grass yard in the front and a full dry yard in the back with a few palms around our pool. They were charging us $85 to come once a month, essentially spray weed killer and blow leaves and let all of our grass die. When I started asking questions I was told that grass maintenance wasn't included in our package. Which is insane since they are a landscape company and that detail was never communicated to us. When I inquired as to what was included in our package, I didn't receive an answer. Only that we needed to switch to twice a month to get grass and sprinklers included. I have no idea what we were paying $85 for when our front yard wasn't being serviced and we have a dry yard with 4 very small palms in the back. We have since had another company come to give us an assessment to find that Little John's Lawns had turned our sprinklers off due to them leaking, but never told us. The new company can also service our front and back yard twice a month, including grass, sprinkler, and all plant maintenance for much cheaper. I'm seriously so upset with the fact that they took our money and did minimal work, then wouldn't even admit accountability for killing all of our grass. Poor customer service, and such a rip off.
